An excellent hotel. Great service and hospitality. Would recommend highly and revisit. Good location near city centre. Only negative was the major construction taking place on adjoining plot. Scaffolding noise ruled out daytime naps/rest. Breakfast superior. We very much enjoyed the stopover.

Excellent hotel near the main railway station. The staff very nice and helpful (thanks once again for your kindness). Breakfests would satisfy even choosy gluttons. I recommend the hotel for those who want to spend great time in Bologna and in Emilia Romagna, and even in Venice and in Florence.

This the second time we visited within a week as we moved from one city to Bologna and back again. This time, the staff was less friendly and a little less accommodating. Our room was adjacent to a construction site so noise was problematic. Asking for directions was a bit more challenging as not all of the staff speaks English, so my Italian was challenged. Good and close to the train station and the city center was very walkable.

First time in Bologna, so this hotel was a great find on a short visit with my adult daughter. We arrived after midnight, it is a short walk from the Central Station and there was a friendly welcome at the desk. WiFi excellent in the room, quirky wallpaper, comfortable beds, plenty of breakfast, Will probably stay there again.

Hotel Il Guercino is somewhere I would love to stay again. My friend and I received a very warm welcome and couldn't have been happier with our room which was on the 1st floor. There was an added bonus of tea and coffee making facilities in our room. The hotel was tastefully decorated with antique furniture and wonderful art. Breakfast, buffet style, was excellent. Spa and gym available, but we didn't have time to partake. Would recommend.

This hotel was ok...we were trying to save a little money by staying here, but the surroundings kind of scary. We went out to find a restaurant near the hotel with no luck and a little scared we were going to get robbed we found a pizza place across the street ordered it to go then we just stayed in the hotel until we left the next day. Walls were paper thin and we could here our neighbors very well. staff was friendly spa room was closed. Breakfast was ok.

I stayed here one night, whilst traveling around Italy by myself, and was very happy. The location is superb, easy to find, just 5 minutes from the station and close to a fruit and veg shop and a nice cafe. Despite its proximity to the station it is blissfully quiet. It's a straight walk down to the main square and it takes about 10/15 minutes from the hotel. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. I booked a single room and it was very spacious and nicely decorated. It had two decent sized single beds in and a desk. It was also the only place where I stayed that had tea and coffee making facilities in the room. My room also had a small balcony, which was a nice surprise. Public spaces were excellent and very comfortable with a lot of rest areas. Breakfast was not included in the offer I chose, but for €29 this hotel was great value. I would certainly recommend Hotel il Guercino and I would stay there again.

We were extremely pleased with our stay and the welcome that we received from the staff who were very attentive and helpful. We had 5 good nights there and enjoyed their excellent buffet breakfast each day. Very reasonable price. The Bedroom (lively decoration) was small but adequate, had a fridge, hairdryer,tea/coffee making facilities - unexpected as we did not recall these being mentioned in the website. Good position for us as we used the nearby train station for trip to Parma (1 hr), and bus stop nearby for Cento(1hr)for Carnival.Bologna town Centre was a pleasant 15 min walk via Porta Galliera , Montagnola gardens, 8th August Square and Via dell' Independenzia Excellent Public transport at a reasonable prices (4 euros day bus pass for town). Safe, clean hotel. Great value. The location is a distance from the city central and most the landmarks and attractions but it is convenient due to its proximity to the train station, Bologna Central, while being a few blocks far enough so we never heard the trains. The neighborhood has several small grocery stores, cafes, and shops. Also several cheap/fastfood type of pizza places and a couple really good restaurants. Rooms were clean and had nice/older/unique furniture. Breakfast was not included but was pretty good.

The worst part of our experience at Il Guercino was the incredibly rude staff. Out of 14 different hotels in our 6 week trip around Italy, this was by far our worst hotel experience largely due to the staff. The location of the hotel was also poor, the carpet was incredibly old, stained, and unappealing to say the least. But the rude, unhelpful, condescending staff made for an extremely unpleasant stay. DO NOT book this hotel!

The hotel is a bit further away than I anticipated from the city center. It is very near to the train station, but one hardly goes to the train station everyday. There are buses to and from the city center for 1.50 euro. The breakfast there is quite pricey and I'm sure one can find better food at a cheaper price in the city center. Overall, it is quite affordable but not very convenient because of its location. Otherwise it is a quiet neighbourhood and it does have wifi throughout the hotel. The bathrooms are also well equipped.

We asked for quiet room and it was very quiet. Outlook from room was a tiny gloomy area with high walls and just room for two plastic chairs - poor but we didn't come for the view! Room wallpaper was a mad deep red with black swirls - not what we would have chosen! but we didnt come for the wallpaper. Had not realised the price did not include breakfast. Walk to centre is a half an hour - just a bit too long. Don't understand rating on type number of rooms so put 0!

This is a good standard 3 star hotel. Though the room I was in was small and the colour scheme dark, the standard of decor was high. The bathroom was also very well-appointed, with a fantastic shower cubicle, but no bath. It was particularly welcome to see tea and coffee-making facilities in the room [for Brits, it would be magical to have milk provided in addition!]. Though not in the very centre of the city, the hotel is conveniently located around a quiet and pleasant courtyard, no more than 10 minutes walk from the station. The only negative point really is the poor sound-proofing of the rooms - at least in the annexe. Overall, highly reccommended!

The wallpaper was peeling off the wall in our room. The furniture looked like cheap items you would buy at K-Mart and put together yourself, the bathroom was covered with moldy spots, and the walls were paper thin. I had to listen to some woman walking around in high heels in another room and later listen to her tv show that she was watching...all while trying to sleep before catching an early morning international flight the following morning. The price should have been 30 Euros or less as far as my room was concerned. This was a one-night stay so there was no time to ask for a better room.

This hotel has been regularly reviewed, and I am happy to agree with the emerging consensus. The hotel is great value: clean, reasonably spacious, quiet (some aircraft noise aside), unobtrusive and effective AC, and a more than reasonable breakfast for your additional €5. You can see the best of Bologna in an afternoon, whereupon you will welcome Il Guercino's proximity to Bologna railway station for easy access to Parma, Ravenna, Modena and Ferrara (strikes permitting). Quibbles: you are on the wrong side of the tracks (literally) but it's a straight road, and 15 minutes' leisurely stroll, to the town centre. And I feel bad trying to think of any others at this price.

We had a fantastic time at hotel Guercino on our recent visit to Bologna. We stayed there with our 8-month old baby and all the staff went out of their way to welcome and help us when my husband needed to send faxes and gave us driving directions. The room was very comfortable, extremely clean and the breakfast excellent and superb value. We would especially like to thank the lovely ladies at breakfast who were extremely helpful and friendly. The location was very convenient for the station and 20' minutes to the centre of town with shops almost all the way. There's a grocer's on the corner, a small pizzaria opposite and a Co-op supermarket 5' min away and parking outside the hotel for 5 euros/day. The decor of the hotel - especially in the lobby - was great fun too. We would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to going back one day!

I stayed here between Venice and Milan, so the price seemed unbelievably low. Room was very small, but clean and well decorated. Great details, e.g., shower was great and even had colored lights on shower head, tv was flat panel, had a pot to make tea. Although small, I really liked the style of the room. We paid extra for breakfast but it was well worth it. Hotel common area seemed nice too, with couches and magazines and an outdoor terrace. Free storage for baggage after checkout was a great service. Everyone at desk was very friendly and helpful. Hotel was not right in main downtown area, but we walked there in probably less than 30 minutes. I think hotel also has bikes to rent. Being close to train station was great benefit. If I had my trip to do over, I would have spent an extra night in this hotel rather than push on to Milan because our experience was so good. Hotel is also located in really quiet area.

We absolutely loved Il Guercino. We were sad to only stay for two nights! For me, it was the decor and the service that made the experience. It's hard to explain just how the art and design contribute to the special feel of this hotel, but every detail has been thought out. It's clear that someone has invested much energy and love in the style of each space. In our room, there were lovely ceramic tiles embedded in the wooden floor. We also loved the wooden crib that was provided to us at no charge for our 3-year old daughter. Breakfast was an excellent buffet, wonderful value for the 5 Euro cost. In short, I would recommend Il Guercino, without hesitation, to anyone heading to Bologna. We will definitely be back!

We only spent one night at the Guercino, before our flight home, but were very impressed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. When we return to Bologna, we will definitely stay here! The hotel is very conveniently located for the train station, and also for a leisurely stroll through one of the many fabulous porticos that lead to the Piazza Maggiore. We loved the eclectic decor, particularly the art works which adorn the hotel! Although the breakfast is not included in the price, it is well worth the additional five euros - this was one of the best buffet selections we had seen in Italy, and for the same cost as we would have paid for a pre-packed bag of rubbishy snacks that was called "breakfast" in a Travelodge in rip-off England! Top marks for the Guercino! P.S. if you are looking for a really good meal at an amazing price, you'd be hard pressed to beat the Belfiore trattoria in Via Marsala - only about ten/fifteen minutes walk away from the Guercino!

Very nice hotel. My only suggestion is that the directions from the train station be clearer. If you take the steps from binario 10 to Via Matteoti, turn left at the top, i.e., at Via Matteoti. I speak Italian, but the directions I got from passersby were to go to the right -- big mistake. Otherwise this place is fine.

Hotel was convenient to train station and in a nice neighborhood, with eateries handy. Decor was fantastic! Breakfast was great. Public areas invited relaxing, but unfortunately, we spent very little time at Il Guercino. Rooms were as we expected given our price range.

WONDERFUL SMALL HOTEL IN A NICE QUIET SETTING JUST A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM THE BOLOGNA CENTRALE TRAIN STATION.OUR SUITE HAD 2 QUEEN BEDS WITH A FULL BATH AND A SMALL ROOM WITH A TWIN BED AND 1/2 BATH. PLENTY OF ROOM FOR 4 OF US.EVERY ONE AT THE FRONT DESK WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND EXTREMELY HELPFUL.THE $5 CHARGE FOR BREAKFAST WAS WELL WORTH IT. We had a triple room (1st floor, above the breakfast room) facing a fenced in "balcony" which was occupied by a window in the cealing of the breakfast room and huge pipes therefore unaccessible. There was one chair, no table or desk and a wardrobe too small to hang trousers or jackets. We tried to change the room offering more money but unsuccessful. The airconditioning was working well. Nice breakfast room. The double rooms are probably alright.

Friendly welcome. Available staff. Double rooms are tiny but cosy. Good cleaning. Breakfast not included, a bit expensive but fine. I do surely suggest it for business or short holidays stays. Would definitely come back.

Excellent hotel and staff, the only problem was the distance from the city centre, which we knew was a walk, but it was further than we thought. At least 15 minutes to the centre, longer if you're looking at all the shops and buildings

This is a wonderful hotel. The only problem is with soundproofing between rooms which is, unfortunately, very bad. Everything else exceeded our expectations. Rooms have a terrace and the breakfast was very good. Staff and service were all first rate, friendly and helpful. It's located just outside the outer ring of the city centre in a small street in a perfectly decent neighbourhood, the bit between the station and hotel is a bit grim but access to the centre is easy with a frequent bus, 27, just round the corner and only 5-10 minutes to the Duomo, otherwise about 20 minute walk. There's at least one good restaurant and a several decent local trat/pizzerie nearby and a voguish restaurant next door, also a macrobiotic restaurant nearby. We will stay here again and hope for a more soundproof room. Highly recommended.

Travelled with friend, walk into Bologna would be approx 10-15mins but did take longer as non stop shops all the way into town! Great location for train station, few mins from hotel. The hotel itself was as the pictures on website, very clean, wacky wallpaper but got used to it! Breakfast was good selection of toast, eggs, sausage, croissants, pastries, fruit, cereals etc. Overall a lovely hotel, ideally situated for everything.

A bit more detail on how to get there from train station would have been good. We had a hard time both finding our way and figuring out how far it was (on foot). It was a short distance outside the city centre. Would have been good to really understand that up front. Still, a pretty good location and very nice hotel.

Overall, this hotel was a great value. Very handy to the train station, especially using the stairway at the end of track 11. The breakfast was a good deal at 5 euro per person. Only complaint - We arrived on a particularly hot day, and when we got to our room it was 28.6 degrees, since the A/C had been turned off. It took almost 48 hrs for the AC to cool the room to 25 degrees. We finally unplugged the mini fridge, since it was just pumping more hot air, and competing the A/C.

We were very pleased. So much so, that we added Il Guercino and cancelled another B&B for our return to Bologna two weeks later. Front desk staff very knowledgable, helpful, and sincere. They need help with American style coffee but breakfast is good and very reasonable. I certainly would recommend to others. Ed Donovan Biloxi, Mississippi
