Our stay at the Hotel Holiday was really comfortable. The room was big (I'd reserved a king size room!) and breakfast was excellent. The only slight flaw was the insufficient acustic isolation of the room. But noise depends on the guests and not on the wall...

Holiday Hotel was close to the main street and within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. It seems to be a business client oriented hotel with nothing of particular appeal about the hotel itself, but it was clean, spacious, comfortable and air conditionned (SO important in summer). The staff were helpful in recommending places to eat (many were closed for the summer and on a Sunday when we arrived) and also recommended an excellent bike ride for us to take!

Hard to find, good location near the center. Small, average hotel. Breakfast was a bit simple. Keskitasoinen, persoonaton, pieni hotelli lähellä keskustaa. Vaikea löytää, paljon kapeita yksisuuntaisia katuja, parkkihalli lähellä.

Hotel Holiday is in the center of Bologna, yet protected from noise. All interesting spots in the city are at 5-min walking distance and are easy to reach. As expected, the rooms are not so spacious as they look on photos, but it really does not matter when you stay a couple of days. The only real problem was that although we have chosen that hotel because it is in the center and offers a parking, it turned out parking was not available (they have 2 parking lots for the whole hotel?!) so we had to park the car in a nearby garage which cost us extra 20 EUR.

The hotel was very nice. The breakfast was wonderful. The building is very old and the architect is doing a fabulous job keeping the feel and look of the old building. It is still being rebuilt and we had a lot of construction noise...but I guess that comes with building a hotel. The price we paid was more than the veneer site quoted but we did not have a printer with us (we made the reservation after we went to Italy) so there was not much we could do.

Very hard to find by car and hard to find parking as well, unless you´re willing to pay 25 euros for a night. Apart from that great hotel and great location to know Bologna on foot, loved the city, big but very charming, and also very cold in the winter! Great prices for a room also.

Breakfast area is very small, there aren't enough tables for everyone (you have to wait for your turn) and the choice for food is poor. Very well the location, in the centre of Bologna. Train station is not a few meters but about 500 m far.
Italy, Dec 2008
The room is not very large, but clean and confortable. We spend one night at a very low price (67 euro for the double room). In one minute walk you are in one of the main road of Bologna, near all shops. Plenty of simple resturants very close to hotel. Staff is kind: I'm satisfied!

Stayed here with my 18yr old daughter in Aug 08. We had heavy backpacks and it was a good 15 min hot walk from the railway station not a few hundred meters as on website! If you're loaded with luggage take a taxi c. 7 euros. However, excellent central location with shops, restaurants and all the old town right there. Don't be put off by the sex shop at the begining of the small street this hotel is in - he other end is directly into a main part of the town. If you are staying in Bologna to visit the Ferrari museum at Marinello, it took us a couple of hours by train and bus and 10 mins walk at the other end. We may not have done it in the best way - check the route carefully!

Free Wifi (if you have your own computer) in the lobby, if not they have a computer at a reasonable price. Also an inhouse bar for beers & coffee. Surrounding is not dodgy as the website has mentioned. It's very quiet, off the main streets. Bologña is small enough to cover by foot.

The hotel was a little hard to find, and the locals haven't heard of the street. The venere directions (as they usually are) were poor, just saying the hotel is meters from the train station. Well, this is true, but not helpful as it isn't visible from the train station. The hotel is located in a street that is almost a back alley. When I checked in they gave me a room without a window, but when I told them it wasn't acceptable they gave me another room without any problem. The decor is very 1980s, though the rooms were a good size. There is a lift, air conditioning, private bathroom, internet in the lobby, and the breakfast was good.

The best feature of Hotel Holiday is its convenient location, close to Piazza Maggiore, and just a few blocks off the main road through town. My only complaint would be that the street that it's on is a bit on the dark and seedy side. But, once you enter the hotel, you are welcomed by nice, helpful staff. The rooms are clean, spacious, and quiet. Bkfst is okay, not great. A decent value for the price.

Walking past the sex shop at the end of the road we were begining to get a little worried but there was no evidence that the area was in any way dangerous and at night it did not feel in the least thretening. In reality it is quite close to the main part of the city. It is not however a "few yards" from the railway station. It is walkable but it will take 30 mins or so with a suitcase. This hotel doesn't have much character. It is functional and fairly comfortable. Everything works and it is maintained to a good standard. If you want somewhere to lay your head within easy walking distance of the main parts of Bologna this will do fine. Breakfast was quite reasonable. The free sweets on offer by the entrance are a great bonus!

We paid 86 euro/night. it was small, but that's not a big deal. The noise was excessive though. i could hear word for word what my neighbors above and to the side of me were saying. They also had construction right out our window and we were wide awake by 0800. Bfast was fine. they do have 2 parking spots avail for 13 euro/night. i wish i would have known that the 1st night because we paid 37 euro for less than 24 hours at an outside parking lot.

The room we stayed in had only a skylight and no other window and the overall impression of the room was rather dull. But beds were OK, and bathroom good except for a very small showercabin and a smell of mould. Breakfast far too sweet without choices for another taste. Best thing with the hotel is the location.

This hotel represented a good value in terms of features, locations and cost. The choices of items at breakfast was extensive. Proximity to the historic center and restaurants was excellent. The only negatives are 1)the hotel is a little difficult to find (located on a very small side street)and 2) it is further from the train station than you might think (walkable, but taxi would be recommended).

This was my second stay at Holiday. The location is just about ideal-- very central, close to the university area. Other than that, it's pleasant and perfectly serviceable. It's not cheap exactly but a good price for Bologna. As for quietness: no traffic noise to speak of but you can definitely hear the other guests, so a lot depends on who else is there. This time things were very quiet. Last time I was not so lucky: there was a group of teenagers who visited with each other from room to room until the early morning hours. Breakfast is ok, not great.

The hotel was very clean, neat and comfortable. The location, whilst central enough, was down a small side street, and did not have the most attractive surrounds. But it was easy to walk to most sites as well as the train station from there, there are plenty of restaurants nearby, and the staff were welcoming.

We had a party of six people, grandparents and a family with two kids. Our original booking was made for three + three but the hotel personnel had arranged without any questions the other room with extra bed. We were very pleased because we didn´t have to split our family. The room for three people with extra bed was still spacious. Although the location of the hotel was in the heart of the historical city, we didn't suffer any noise related problems: the hotel was in the middle of two very narrow and quiet streets.

our room looked out onto an inner courtyard, and so was very quiet. The hotel was fine, worth the price, good location, very good reception staff, but in some ways idiosyncratic. For example, the lift had a strange notice (in english) about guests who take breakfast food without paying for it being charged if traces are found in their room. I suggest the hotel just changes its policy to charge all guests a breakfast-inclusive rate, as we had through venere.com. The notice implies that it doubts the honesty of its english speaking guests.

THIS HOTEL CAN BE QUITE DIFFICULT TO FIND. PLEASE OBTAIN A GOOD CITY STREET MAP < http://www.tuttocitta.it/tcolnew/index_tcol.html# > ENTER THE STREET AND AREA NUMBER AND OFF YOU GO. ON FOOT, LEAVING THE MAIN CENTRAL TRAIN STATION BY THE FRONT ENTRANCE, HEAD TO THE LEFT WHERE A MAC DONALDS IS LOCATED, CROSS THE MAIN ROAD AT MAC DONALDS AND TURN LEFT FOR ONLY 15 METERS, THEN TURN RIGHT BY THE OLD RUINS, ACROSS THE SQUARE AND ONTO THE MAIN STREET, FOLLOW THIS STREET, VIA DELL INDIPENDENZA, BEST USE THE STREET MAP FROM HERE. THE HOTEL WAS EXCELLENT, GREAT LOCATION, CLOSE TO ALL SITES AND MAIN SHOPPING AREAS. RECOMMEND THE WINE / CAFE BAR JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE HOTEL, EXCELLENT SERVICE, NOT EXPENSIVE, OPEN ALL DAY TO MIDNIGHT. GOOD RESTRUANTS LOCALLY. < FOR BITS & PIECES SUPERMARKET IS A GOOD 15 MINUTES WALK FROM THE HOTEL, VIALE PIETRO,> WHEN RETURNING TO THIS GREAT CITY WOULD STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN

I just stayed over one night on my way out ot Italy, and found the hotel to be nice, especially for the Internet price I paid (50 euros). I was alble to park my car in their two car garage across the street. I had a small room on the third floor with a king-size bed, which was fine with me for my short stay.

As several others on Venere.com have noted, the biggest downfall about Hotel Holiday has to do with their shower drains! You either take quick showers or flood the bathroom - or sometimes both! It seems like something that a little Drano Max could fix (or whatever the Italian equivalent would be!) - ha! We were there in early May and the air conditioning was not yet due to be turned on. But we opened a window and that cooled the room. Keeping the shutters closed kept the pigeons out! Unlimited internet access in the lobby for just a few Euros was EXTREMELY convenient! I would stay at the Hotel Holiday again.

We enjoyed staying at the Holiday. We had a little difficulty knowing which way to head out of the train station but once we headed to the old ruins we were fine. It was less than 10 minutes to walk to our room. Bologna was a pleasant surprise and we were glad we stopped for the night. The breakfast was excellent even though it was presided over by the "breakfast nazi." The only caution would be the shower. I'm sure there are people out there who would not fit. It was by far the smallest shower ever made. However, unless I gain weight, I will definately stay here again.

This was an excellent place and as described by other visitors. I made my decision based on the feedback provided here and it worked well. It was centrally located and we were able to walk everywhere - sites, dinner, pubs... The staff was helpful, even though the morning girl was hung over - Happy Birthday! They were accomodating to any request we had and were always friendly - even when we butchered the language when trying to speak Italian. The room layout was a bit strange. We only had a skylight in the main area. I would stay here again.

My reviews might be a little harsh, but considering I didn't sleep for the two nights I slept there, I feel like I am giving them some benefit of doubt. Also the breakfast was not very good, stale bread, tasteless coffee; I was very disappointed. For what I was paying and for it being a 3 star (supposedly) hotel, I felt I was not getting my money's worth. The good thing about the hotel was its location.

The rooms they have in the internet are not the rooms they provide when you get there. The employe said to me that by that price i couldn´t espect the best room avaiable. They put us in a next door building not in the main building. The room had no fire alarm, no fire escape, i was stucked behind a door of stell that was not easy to open. There was no mini bar, no lift no nothing. That was not in the internet. I don't reccomend this hotel. The rooms are very noisy, you can hear everything your room-neighbours say, making difficult to sleep, and - if you come in the summer - the air conditioning in the rooms works only 7am-23pm, so when it's very hot it's hard to sleep and the a/c doesn't work.

Very good. It was conveniently located about ten minutes walk both from the sdtaion and from the city centre. Rooms wer luxurious without being too luxuriously priced. We would havepreferred a proper window to watch the world go by instead of a skylight. The street was quiet and free from the usual city night noises in Italy. The breakfast was very good, offering good-quality coffee anda wide ranfe of things to eat. It was rather cramped in the dining room. We had never visited Bologna before. It is one of the most civilised places in the world.

Overall this was a good place to stay. I'm not sure if we were put in a room that is usually used for guests; our room had a kitchen in it. The hotel was filled with a group of Americans that were there for a wedding. So, I think that they gave us a room that was not usually used. It was not spotless and the bed was not very comfortable. There was a large gap between the wall and the bed that we could not close and our pillows kept slipping during the night. Furthermore, there was a fridge but it was empty. The description of the hotel stated that the room had a "frigobar" and at checkout we were asked if we had consumed anything from the frigobar. Lastly, the air conditioner was big, bulky and noisy unit which kept me up the first night. (The second night I wore ear plugs.) Again, though, I'm not sure if the other, regular rooms have this problem. The hotel was down a long alley-like street and there was a sex shop down the street. So, given that it was just two females -- myself and my 13 year old daughter -- I didn't feel very secure at night. On the other hand, the hotel was centrally located and all sights/downtown were easily accessible. It was quite a walk from the train station, though, if you're carring luggage. So, I recommend a taxi. The aerobus picks you up right at the end of the street if you're going to the airport for about 4 euros. This was very convenient. Other than that, it was a good hotel. The staff were very hospitable and helpful. They put up with my broken Italian and didn't offend me by immediately speaking English. The breakfast was plentiful and good and the common areas were nice. They provide internet access in the lobby which is very convenient. This was a good value for the money and I would stay here again.

The aspect of this hotel that most appealed to me was the location. Although when originally approaching the hotel, one is a bit taken aback by the approach (appears to be an alley) I was prepared for this thanks to another review. The breakfast was good except it seemed to be more complete on the weekend. Once when we went down at 9:20 (breakfasting lasting until 10) we had to request rolls, meat, cheese, etc. And the bed in room 207 leaves a bit to be desired--sagging towards the middle and the room was very small although with everything available. The location, overlooking a shared courtyard was pretty nosiy. However all that being said, loved the location, and would stay here again without hesitation; would just ask for a larger room this time.

Ideally located for a visit of Bologna - close to everything and no need for a car. The bus takes you to the airport and back (5 mns walk from hotel). The rooms can be noisy at night if the windows are kept open (the building gives onto side streets on both sides. Breakfast is good but an early visit is recommended as it can get crowded. We would stay there again when returning to Bologna.

Helpful staff, perfect economy hotel for a brief stop in Bologna. Slightly aged 80's furnishings. Quiet, relatively spacious room, carpet needs serious cleaning. Desk clerk very accomodating with map, recomendations, etc.

Excellent location right in the heart of the city - everything walkable although the hotel is also very handy for the excellent local buses. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable - which is all that I want from a hotel room and the hotel staff were always friendly and helpful. If you are expecting a luxury hotel then this is probably not for you, but is comfortable enough and I would be more than happy to stay here again.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Convenient location. Very nice breakfast buffet. Bed was comfortable, shower was great. Close to several very good resturants. We stayed a week and would stay there again.

Stayed twice at this hotel in different rooms.Good location for visiting Bologna, reception good with friendly staff. Both rooms were noisy, one was located next to the lift while the noise in the other was caused by street cleaning machines during the night.

Nice hotel. It is well located, between the railway station and the centre of the town. We made the reservation by the web so I had to introduce my credit card number, here comes the negative point: despite the web affirms that they are not going to charge any pre-payment, the hotel DID. They charged 0,01 € at the moment that we made the reservation. In this case, it was a small quantity, but it has also happened to us with other hotels, and they charged the hole price of the room.

one of the best places i stayed (in value terms) in Italian cities. Quiet side street but close enough to walk to all attractions; pleasant room (breakfast adequate) - very nice Trattoria on corner adjacent. Very capable staff dealt with my changes to booked date and request for second day with efficiency (and better English than my Italian).

Fine room, good location. Breakfast could have been more welcoming but otherwise the place was very friendly.

Some problems with irritating sounds from the air-condition. Otherwise very good. We will return!

El hotel y la habitación son buenos en relación al precio y está bien situado para la visita de la ciudad. El desayuno era pobre y la mayor arte de los días no había ni fruta ni fiambres
