Very quiet, great staff, lots to eat for breakfast, v.close to bus, cafe, internet point. Use the bridge from Binario 11 at the station if walking. Superb value for money. Stayed 2 nights and added a third because it was so good.

Apart from the grumpy arrogant man on the desk!!! the hotel was adequate for an overnight stay. We liked the balcony from our room and the airconditioning. The surrounding area was a bit grim and the walk from the train station was quite a trek in the heat, with sporadic signposting making it a trial. We were 'rescued' by a fantastic local lady and her car, who took us to the hotel - how kind (we must've looked desperate) The centre of Bologna was fantastic and well worth a visit. It was the least touristy city we visited on our tour, with it's own personality and atmosphere. A small payment on the local bus is a bargain.

Well... After all the hotels we stayed in (which were 1-star hotels) during our trip throug Italy, this one appear to be the best. The room had all facilities: big bathroom, TV, mini-bar, wi-fi free etc. The cantinental breakfast was pretty good and the staff was friendly. The only drawback is the location. 40 mins by foot from the center or 2 euros by bus (the bus stop is near but the bus service isn't very frequent).

Not really easy to find. Air conditioning let go on the first night and staff immediately found out a new room for the 2nd night. Would stay again!

We stayed at the Astor for 4 days to attend a Trade Fair. The hotel is ideally suited for this purpose. Good roomy bathroom, standard bedroom with excellent bed and frigobar. Spic and span hotel and good breakfasts supplied. All staff were very helpful. Forget proximity to the train station, wrong side of the tracks so a bus or taxi trip (9 Euro at most) to/from the Astor. We didn't try walking in to the Centrale but it may be the 10 mins advised (or not). A bus stop is at the end of the hotel driveway and it is one bus trip into Bologna Centrale and 2 short bus trips to the Trade Fiera. Easy but at all times watch out for the PickPockets on buses. My husband and I both aware 2 male gypsies were trying to relieve him of his wallet during a crowded afternoon bus trip. We made it obvious we knew of their determined attempts which were unsuccessful as we got off the bus having announced to other travellers why. Across the road from the Astor is an excellent restaurant, PINXO. They give a discount to Astor patrons but the venue, meals and service outstanding, and prices low anyway. An Italian friend, Signore Fussy accompanied us to Pinxo one night and he was extremely impressed with menu, food, 2 Signoras and the venue. We liked the Astor - it met our needs perfectly.

A good stay. The rooms are very spacious and clean, recently renewed. Remarkable helpfulness by the receptionist. The only bad thing are the surroundings...

A good hotel at a reasonable price. Quiet area but has an excellent (locals)restaurant just down the road.

I booked this hotel as an intermediate stop between our last stay and heading back to Germany, but I did not notice the cancellation policy of a week, and therefore we had to stay here or be charged the room rate, so this may be colouring my review. This hotel is in a residential area/commercial area, but nothing stays open around it for dinner or anything else in the evening. My husband had to take a 5 Euro taxi ride back to the train station to MacDonalds to get the dinner. The receptionist was extremely unfriendly, and although it may be simply that she did not speak much English, it came across as an extremely surly and unfriendly attitude. ttitude. The room in all fairness was big, and very clean....but we could not figure out how to turn on the AC so we thought it did not work, and the desk was very unhelpful and we did finally figured it out. The hot water did not work, so the shower in the morning was brisk. The breakfast was ok, with a decent variety and individually made cappacino, which was very nice. The morning desk help was competent and helpful. Overall though this was our worst experience and I would not go back to this hotel due to the poor cancellation policy, unfriendly evening desk helpful, cold water, and location.

My biggest complaint has more to do with the map on this website than with the hotel itself. I thought that the train station let out to the north side (the Astor's side) of the tracks. It did not, so we ended up lost and having to drag our suitcases up and over a bridge and then the city's signs to the hotel stopped in the middle of a neighborhood. The folks we asked were very nice and tried to direct us and 25 minutes later we arrived at the hotel. Once there the hotel was nice and the man on duty actually ended up giving us a larger room (at the lesser price) because the maid had not made up the smaller rooms by the time we arrived. It was a good experience to be in a real neighborhood and not just a touristy area. I would consider staying here again if I did have to schelp my luggage so far.

Would happily stay here again. The prices were high because Bologna was full due to a trade show. The staff were helpful and friendly and the location was a 10 minute walk from the train station.I will stay here again next year.

Having booked this room the night before I went away, it all worked out very well except that finding the hotel was not that easy. Thanks to my teenager we managed to get there. V good accomodation though. If I visit Bologna again I would probably stay at this hotel.

Good, solid 3 star quality. We stayed there one night en route and it was fine. We found it hard to find from the station, and we should have got a taxi- it's a 20 min walk, with luggage, and you have to know where you're going

We were welcomed by the receptionist on our arrival, (1630), and treated to a cup of coffee, after a very long day, as our room wasn't yet ready. The receptionist was Italian, we are English, but between us we got over the language barrier! The room was a double with en-suite, and it more than deserves the 3 star rating; i would have liked a coffee machine in the room, but room service was available if needed: in the end, it wasn't needed. The bedsheets and towels were replaced daily, and the bathroom consumables were topped up daily. During our stay, we could clearly hear some of the other occupants talking, (loudly, in some cases), but being exhausted every day, this did not effect our sleeping. All the staff were extremely friendly and courteous, and on the second day of our stay, the duty receptionist spoke perfect English, so i decided he was the guy we would make eventual payment with! (The price we paid, by the way, was as quoted, and as per the booking confirmation e-mail). The surroundings are extremely "Urban", so i would not feel inclined to venture out alone, late at night, but you could say the same for many cities in the world, so not really a criticism, more an observation. The hotel is situated as per the web-site map, but i would recommend getting the #11A or B bus from the railway station, rather than carrying them just under a kilometre to the hotel. (By the way, you can get to the rear of the station by underpass; bit of a hike around the station and over the bridge, otherwise). I have no problem recommending the Astor, and no problem recommending Venere.com. In fact, i shall no doubt use both organisations again.

this was a decent hotel. it was clean, the breakfast was good, and the room was spacious. The location could have been better though. It is a five minute bus ride from the train station to the hotel in the opposite direction of the city center. The bus stop is very close to the hotel and about a 10 minute ride from the major sites in town.

Very nice hotel, though a fair walk into the city. However, you can get round this by using buses, taxis etc. Recommended.

This hotel has rooms with good quality fittings and decoration - some money has been spent on updating. The bathroom fittings were especially good. This was let down a little by the public areas - maybe they are in line for a revamp, although they are by no means bad. The breakfast was good although the waitress a little stand offish - you had to ask for your coffee - it wasnt automatically offered! Good location for a cheaper stay very close to the city centre.
