The hotel is in a fantastic location right in the heart of historic Bologna. Access from airport was excellent. All major 'must-sees' were just a short distance away. The hotel, which was an excellent base, was run by exceptional staff providing a fabulous service.

Any caveat I had about giving an overall 9/10 is due to the room size and the stairs. I booked a classic double and got a double room more suitable for single occupation - a clue being the single robe and slippers. The bathroom was internal and not sufficiently well ventilated. Its door was on a spring and could not be kept open. If we were to have stayed for more than one night I would have asked to be moved. Otherwise, everything was beautifully appointed, the bed comfortable, the view pleasant and the staff cordial and obliging. The breakfast room and sitting area were spacious and airy. Breakfast was delicious, well above the average offering. There is a computer station in the sitting room. Small touches like bowls of bon-bons are in evidence all around and give an attractive ambiance. Apart from making sure that your room is large enough (I saw some as they were being cleaned the following day and they were generously sized particularly by European standards), be warned that the lift only runs from a half landing 3 short flights up from reception. There is a porter but the climb might be difficult for anyone with mobility problems.

One of my favorite hotels in Italy. I stay at Hotel Orologio every time I am in Bologna. The location can't be beat and the quality of the rooms and service is more like **** rather than ***.

Excellent hotel, wonderfully situated. Large and pleasantly organized rooms. Excellent buffet breakfast (with, at the time of our stay, delicious carnval "sfrappole"!). Simply, it is prudent ta ask beforehand how to access the hotel with a car, since the centre of Bologne has only restricted, and sometimes almost forbidden, access.

The location of this hotel was really good for walking about the center of the old city. There was one big problem for those who are older or physically challenged; the elevator began at the first floor not the lobby level. I loved being in the center of Bologna and my room was clean and spacious for a European hotel.

This is hotel is in a great position right on Piazza Maggiore. The hotel breakfast area and lounge room are spacious, delicious breakfast and free internet is available on a decent high speed modem. We were upgraded to a suite so our room was spacious, bathroom good.

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Nice room overlooking Piazza Maggiore. Excellent breakfast. Definitely stay there again. Well worth the struggle round the one way system with the car!

I spent two nights at L'Orologio. It is in an excellent central position close to the Piazza Maggiore. They upgraded me to a delightful, large double room with a romantic view of the Piazza. The hotel is small but there is a very pleasant breakfast room on the first floor with a particularly good buffet and decent coffee and an inviting sitting room next door with newspapers and internet access and where free evening nibbles appeared to be on offer (I didn’t investigate). Service was efficient and friendly and when on two occasions I asked for nearby eating recommendations both suggestions matched my criteria perfectly. This being Bologna it might not have been such a difficult task! On my last day I was not leaving until late and had to vacate my room at midday but they did not hassle me and there was no problem about storing my suitcase there and using their facilities after I had formally checked out.

We spent 3 days at the Orologia and they were wonderful. We had been traveling for 2 weeks and we were able to really relax and enjoy ourselves at the Orologia. The people at the front desk were very kind, cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful. The bed and bathroom were the best of our trip. The location could not have been more ideal.

We loved Hotel Orologio! What a beautiful hotel. We asked for "local" places to eat and went back for three nights. Wonderful! And we were there when Italy won the World Cup. What a wonderful celebration. Great breakfast, free internet, quiet, clean, and lovely place. We loved it. We had three rooms reserved in our group.

The hotel was first class as were the staff. The room was spacious and clean.Check-out time excellent..14.30..free room service for breakfast. The only downfall was the taxi on our return to the airport. When we arrived in Bologna it was midday and the traffic was very busy..taxi cost 16Euros. When we left it was mid afternoon...no traffic...but we were taken a very long way round to the airport..taxi cost 18.35 Euros. Disappointing..but his loss. He would have got the 20 euros I had kept for the purpose anyway. It does leave a bad taste though.

Front staff didn't communicate beyond their desk. I received messages and phone calls, was on the property and they didn't deliver the message and dropped (lost) the phone calls. My luggage didn't arrive with me, and I had asked that it be delivered as soon as it arrived; however it wasn't until the next day when I called down although it had arrived the night before. They tried to get me to pay cash because the credit machine was broken, but it was only out of tape (I paid by credit card). In general, I loved the hotel, but the front staff needs more training for that caliber and price property.

Pros: Location, steps from Pza Maggiore in pedestrianized zone. Superb breakfast buffet, beautifully arranged. Champagne and nibbles offered in the afternoons. Spacious bathroom. Extremely good value for money. Cons: Elevator is not accessible from ground floor. Internet access limited to one shared PC in lounge. With the exception of a very helpful and over-worked bellhop, the staff seemed brusque and cold, bordering on rude. To be expected, perhaps, in Paris, but quite surprising in Italy. Since I regularly saw two of the owners on premises, I can only assume that this attitude towards customers comes from the top down.

It is a very nice hotel, located in the best place you can find inside Bologna. Piaza Matzore is the Heart of the Heart of Bologna. Hotel's people are very gentle. The only problem is the location of the Elevator, in the mid-floor, so you must have your muscles prepared for a little carriage!

We had a great time here. The Orologio was perfectly placed just off the Paizza Maggiore. The room was comfortable (if compact) and double glazing meant that it was exceptionally quiet. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful, and the hotel had a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Breakfasts were very good (with very friendly service). This is not a cheap hotel, but it seems none in Bologna are. I would definitely recommend the Orologio for its location and service.

The situation of this hotel is the major bonus, being central to all the main sights. The actual hotel itself is excellent, and the free online access makes a big difference. Facilities in rooms are impressive - a good combination of ancient and modern.

The hotel was beautiful, I didn't think the photographs on the website did it justice. Driving directions to the hotel on the website would be very helpful. The hotel itself was very nice, and in a great location. I don't know what other rooms they had available but mine was fantastic.

A wonderful hotel and a wonderful city - a real surprise. A city that makes absolutely no concessions to tourism. Good. Mostly. The hotel could not improve on the breakfast other than perhaps making it clearer as to what it offers - if anything - in the way of cooked food ie eggs! But a beautiful setting and a very good breakfast indeed. Liked the long hours allotted to breakfast. Good to have a PC facility with internet access (Supposedly) except that when I was there internet access was not available. Something could be done to improve that ie a different ISP? Also more guidance on that service in languages other than Italian? Wonderful bedroom and magnificent position for the hotel. Have they though of an honesty bar? The lounge area is very attractive and it would be great to come home in the evening to a bar facility and coffee. This need not involve extra staff as in other similarly rated hotels we stay at they have an honesty bar where you pay set prices into a secure box. Think for Bologna in particular where the bars tend to close early, this would be a great asset. Overall we loved our stay, Bologna and the hotel. The pricce paid was very reasonable and your website worked extremely efficiently. Well done.

I very much enjoyed my stay. The hotel is perfectly situated and the staff very friendly and helpful, even allowing me to speak Italian. I would certainly like to stay at the hotel again when I next visit Bologna, but I would certainly try and find a time when there is no trade fair on, as the rise in prices is massive!

Location to Historic Center was perfect. I made the mistake though of walking with luggage to the hotel(based upon books saying it was a 10 minute walk, it was futher and longer). Use the taxi it was 6 euros. Desk service recommended the resturant Franco Rossi which was wonderful, especially when the entertainment arrived( Tenor singer and accordianist)
