Hotel Insor - Berlin

First time at Hotel Insor. Hotel was quiet and what we needed for the stay. Close to metro and several restaurants and shops. However on arrival, stated on the website the hotel was open from 10am, we were left waiting till after 12 only getting inside by rattling the door till the cleaner (no english) let us in. Staff didn't speak a word of english even though it stated so on their website.

For 20 Euros/night I don't think that I can pretend more. Nevertheless, the next time I prefer spending a little more.

The place was very clean, and the area it's in - friedrichshein - is wonderfully "original berlin". But that's pretty much all there is to it. It's a good place to stay if you speak German and all you're interested in is a clean, small bed to sleep in. The price is huge compared to no service provided: no english speaking staff AT ALL,reception hardly ever available.When available, reception staff is helpful (in German!)and friendly. A couple examples that might help you understand where you are: you're supposed to tell if you won't be bale to check in by 8pm. I called before arrival and had to manage a conversation in my EXTREMELY broken German, and apparently everything was ok regarding my arrival at 10pm. When we got thre, minutes before 10, the "hotel" was completely locked up and no one was anwering the phone or the doorbell. As I was desperate, I went in a Turkish bistro opposite the road to ask for info, and THEY HAD THE KEYS TO THE ROOM!!! Anyways, the area is lovely, if you're into the East Berlin thing, but you'll be able to find beds to sleep in for 13€ instead of 50 a night. Round New Years, we were asked by Insor over 300€ for a shared, 4-bed room...

I stayed in a double room that was actually a triple...it was very nice and clean, the only rpoblem was not to have a privet toilet, just the basin... In any case toilet were clean, even if to share between 4/5 room and one toilet was dedicated specifically to women. Pretty kind.

The bathroom was not in the room as indicated but outside, shared with other 3 rooms. The breakfast was not included, but the reservation page said the contrary. They asked me 5 Euros to have breakfast.

If you want to stay close to the heart of the city but at an affordable price, then our bright, homely and comfortably furnished rooms are just right for you. We offer modern shower rooms, WC, hair dryer and cable TV This the description on the web site...but the room was without WC and shower.

Great value and location. The only problems were a loud party upstairs one weekend night at 2 am (the top floors are privately owned, I guess?), a persistent odour problem in the bathrooms and the fact that they don't accept credit cards - which wasn't mentioned on the web page!
