If the rate had been lower, I might have been happier with my experience. But the rooms, facilities and the service were not compatible with the rate. The location was convenient; close to metro trains. But do not expect glamorous surroundings. The breakfast was decent with good variety. But the rooms were extremely noisy; I had to switch to a second room after a sleepless night due to noise in a room facing the backyard. Beware: the backyard is a parking lot for municipal service trucks that start at 4:00 AM. My second room facing the street was even worse. The rooms were also very warm without A/C (heat wave in June) and the promised screen to keep insects out were missing from my second room. So I could not open the window without having an assortment of bugs in my room. Hotel staff were nice and friendly, but not very efficient. I asked for a wake-up call, but never got it - they had called the wrong room. I left my bag at the hotel for a few hours after checking out, but it was placed in a not-so-appropriate storage room with cleaning equipment and supplies. The lobby and restaurant were dingy. There were no items/amenities in the room to make it more comfortable - no alarm clock, no iron, no extra pillows and blankets. Inadequate and mismatched hangers. The TV was impossible to control and it turned on by itself in the middle of the night twice. I would not recommend this hotel or book it again.

i really enjoyed my stay here, very friendly service, beautiful bathroom and room overlooking river. only complaint is one of the beds was a bit old and springy, but you cant have it all... easy walk to train line/underground, 5 mins into centre. would definitely go back again!! oh, and the bar is 24 hours, bonus.

East Side Hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Berlin. Its only a stop from the main train station on the east side and there is a night bus that runs from within the city to around the corner of the hotel. Our room was fantastic. We had a triple share with a double sofa and two single beds. The bathroom was absolutely massive and looked brand new and our room looked out across the road to the longest section of the Berlin wall left standing. Obviously you are on the east side and the look of surrounds can be abit drab, but if you want a great place to stay and be able to really feel the history then this is a great starting point. Whether you get of the train station on S-Bahn or U-Bahn just go to the exit (there is only 1) and go left. Follow until the corner head right, crossing at the lights. This is the hotels street, and its about 200m away.

Very happy with my stay in east side city. My only criticism was that the scrambled eggs and bacon ran out a bit early at breakfast

I thought this was a great basic hotel. Nice staff, small, but very clean room and excellent location at a great price. I would stay here again without a doubt!!

A really funky budget hotel, with a great bar. Near the tubes, overground station and the station to the export express train. A little walk or tube ride to the nightlife, but highly recommended. The Saturday evening was very noisy from the nightclub opposite. Staff very friendly with good english

Excellent communications to the centre. Rooms clean and comfortable but a bit noisy if at the front. The staff on the whole were friendly and served excellent self-serve breakfasts. Good value for money !

I was very disappointed with the position of the hotel and as faced a busy road the window had to be closed. There was another porthole window with no curtain so I had to try to block it with magazines and clothes to keep out the light for sleep. I cancelled the rest of my stay there and moved up to Ibis which gave me a room double the size of Eastsidecity for 59euros and much closer to the centre. No breakfast but Eastside breakfast was not brilliant and the cooked food was cold.

The hotel itself was perfectly adequate for our stay, the only drawback being I don't speak German, and none of the staff appeared to speak English. But, we were given excellent service and managed to get by even with the language barrier. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better - overlooking the remaining part of The Wall, and easyily accessable for both U-Bahn and S-bahn stations. HIghly recommended for budget travellers.

Pretty nice hotel located in the near of the center (Alexanderplatz), public transportation services also available pretty near (approx. 5 min walk). Across the street the longest part of the still existing wall. Great breakfast buffet. Generally speaking a good opportunity to stay in Berlin for a reasonable price.

East Side City is a small, friendly, relaxed hotel opposite a portion of the Wall decorated by international artists in the early '90's - this bohemian feel spills over to the hotel itself, which is decorated by photos of the wall and a trompe l'oeil Erich Honecker complete with slippers and pyjamas. Staff are welcoming, rooms are clean and serviceable (if basic) and the breakfast is pretty good. The hotel is on a main road, but rooms at the back are very quiet, and you are close to transport links - particularly Warschauer Strasse - and some interesting nightlife.
