This is a delightful hotel, even though we caught the tail end of recent refurbishment works (which they warned us about beforehand & knocked 10% off our bill). The location is good, being only 25 mins walk from the city centre (Unter den Linden) but also 5 minutes from Nordbanhof S-Bahn Station, as well as Tram stops, and is in a quiet mostly residential area. Breakfasts are good, but you also have the option of a couple of decent cafes virtually next door. The staff were agreeable & helpful, and all spoke good English. Berlin is somewhere we definitely want to return to, and would go back to Hotel Zarenhof.

In general, the room was very good, but we were not informed that the hotel was renovating during our stay, which made our stay a little less pleasant. The location is close to the center of the city, and was close to a U bahn station and to a few restaurants and bars. We think that for the price we've paid, a breakfast should have been included.

Hotel was pretty... Location is good ; it was to easy to find by taxi; also it's too close to Uban station... the only problem for me is there's modifications at the hotel and so it was too noisy... but i think if there wont be any modification in the hotel it'll be really quite place...

Excellent hotel to be recommended, very well located. Will take you maximum 10 min with public transportation to be in the centre of Berlin from the hotel door (SBahn station behind the corner). Very quiet neighborhoud but anyway very well located close to many restaurants (5 mins maximum walking). You do not need to go back downtown to find many different types of restaurant. Will certainly stay again at the hotel Zarenhof. The hotel itself very clean, spacious rooms (for 3 people) and staff very helpful and kind.

Yes, Hotel Zarenhof came up to our exspectations. The aerea is very quiet and also near the Museums Isle, one can walk till "unter den Linden" or to the Brandeburger Tor. In the Area two Lines of Metro, the S & the U are easly to reach. The staff of 1st class. It was the 1st time we stayed there.

The absence of a lift and above all the the low quality of the stairs were in strong contrast with quality, clearness and spaciousness of the room.

The room and the bathroom were both quite spacious and absolutely quiet by night. The only inconvenience is the absence of elevator. As we arrived late in the night and the reception was losed, they gave us very accurate instructions about how to get our keys and how to find the rooms. There was no problem. The location is good, near a train station and not far from a quite lively area around Orianenburg Strasse. The locations allows you to go to the main tourist attractions walking.

Close to the Hauptbahnhof(1.6km) & Reichstag. The area was a little bit to quiet for single travelers but as it was close to the Nordbahnhof we could get anywhere we wanted to. A french reviewer nagged about the breakfast being too expensive but it had a very good price/quality/quantity relationship (especially in comparison to breakfasts served in Paris). We asked for a room with twin beds but didn't receive one although the rooms were really spacious.

I booked an appartment for 3 persons but, actually they didn´t specifficated how many beds, I was traveling with 2 other friends, I also didn´t make sure the "appartment" had 3 separate beds, so we had to share a queen size bed because the hotel was not able to provide us an extra one, but since I only stayed one night was not a big problem.

Excellent hotel. Easy to reach from the airport via the S-bahn. Warm welcome from the receptionist who was very helpful. Nice, quiet room, spacious and nice bathroom. Breakfast room was small, but the breakfast was very nice, plenty of choice. Hotel is within easy walking distance of some good restaurants and cafes. Also not too far from tourist attractions.

A really excellent hotel. The photos on the web didn't do it justice. Stylish rooms, plenty of space and a crazy courtyard. Highly appropriate for Berlin. Helpful staff that put up with me dreadful German and waited until I arrived late from a delayed plane.

I stayed two nights and the first night I was already not feeling too good about the bed in room no. 17 being an older matress and I woke up with back pain. In the morning the area outside my bathroom window was obviously the dedicated smoking area of the place. The whole bathroom smelled smokey like a bar. I closed the window but skipped the shower...breakfast was ok, so far these minor annoyances were acceptable for the price. But the second night (a monday night) a group of people obviously sat outside on their terrace (5th floor or so) enjoying a loud conversation with lots of laughter. It's Berlin and I wouldn't care too much if it wasn't going on from 11 in the evening till 5 in the morning and the echoing courts of old appartment complexes in Berlin made it extremly difficult to fall asleep. At 3am I called the receptionist and asked him to find those people and ask them to keep it down a little. He told me he's going to see what he can do, but the noise did go on. In combination with the old matress I had a sleepless night and again at 9 o'clock sharp I've been waken up by a noisy outside waterfaucet mounted right at the outside wall of my room and again by smoking personal in front of my bathroom window. I rushed to breakfast, wrote down all these annoyances and checked out. If you stay here, avoid room no. 17 and ask for a room facing the street and not the noisy backyard court. Overall I had an unpleasant stay.

Everything was very nice with our stay and all the information I found on Venere panned out. Some earlier posters complained about the beds being hard, but we had no such problems, very nice matresses. The pillows, on the other hand, really were too big! Still, it was no problem in the way of comfort.

We enjoyed having the spacious apartment. We used the kitchen and washing machine and were happy to have them. The only drawback was that we had to climb four flights of stairs each time. The breakfast was excellent -- loved the salmon, the caviar and blinis! The neighborhood is primarily residential, thus not much in the way of restaurants or shops. It was convenient to the subway. All in all, we'd recommend Zahrenhof highly especially for family travel.

We would definitely recommend this small hotel in the Eastern part of Berlin. It is fantastically located, close to the main station, as well as many Berlin sights such as the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Tor and lots of great (and reasonably priced) restaurants. We walked everywhere! Access to the rooms was via stairs, so it may not suit some, but we found it a great place to stay.

Very clean, great location for public transport, personnel very helpful and cordial. Breakfast is 9 Euros per person - a bit pricy. Shower in bath very small. Not enough shelving in bath. Cancellation fees a bit hefty - possibly due to major event in Berlin.

The place was excelent! The pictures doesn't do this hotel justice. The room was amazing. We stayed for 3 nights on the first floor. Everything was great except for one thing which kinda lead to my lower rating than what I should have given it. The beds are VERY uncomfortable, very hard, leaving us tosing and turning a lot. The comforter/bedsheets/pillows are also not great. I know Germans have different style in pillow and blankets but these were uncomfortable. I think the beds were purchase for their ability to last a long time vs comfort because we own 1 German style bed and ours is night and day different from what they have. Other than that everything was great. It's a block away from the Nordbanhoff which has access to any locations downtown via S-Bahn.

I was looking for a decent place to sleep with parking. It met those requirements well. I don't spend time in my hotel room when I travel so as long it is clean, neat, quiet I am happy. Room was nothing real fancy or spacious but I was in a single room which can differ greatly from a double. The staff was very helpful and made a sincere effort to answer all of my questions as best they could. Parking was in a building about a block away but was fine and I felt safe leaving my car there.

Ok hotell....it was cheap and waking distance to central of berlin, thats the ok part. It was 2 things that we dont were happy about and the first thing is that the bed was crap...so we had problems sleeping...and the other thing is that the appartment wasn`t with a kitchen...or the kitchen door was looked...but the friendly staff could open it up for a couple of hours if we payed for it...(hmmmm)

The hotel is very centrally located with subway stations, and bus & trolley service within a short walking distance. Unfortunately, the apartment was on the 3rd floor and the hotel does not have an elevator. The rooms was comfortable and tastefully furnished; the buffet breakfast, excellent. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Zarenhof to others staying in Berlin.
