Hotel Reviews Il Perlo Panorama

France, Nov 2009
Service at the front desk is neither friendly nor very helpful. Rooms and water are cold on arrival. Was suprising to find that you have to pay for a proper coffee at breakfast. Only instant coffee was included in the price. It's just a small thing but it shows how stingy they are. It doesn't have the feel of a bed and breakfast at all, but more like a run down hotel. It's a shame, the hotel is in a fantastic position and does have a great view, but the owners don't make an effort to give good service.

The hotel was nice and the view magnificient. The hotel was not indicated in road signs by the lake but telecon helped us up to the hill. The only thing which was not ok, was breakfest. It was terrible.

Cheapest hotel we found in Bellagio. Great great location with a gorgeous view over the lake! Old house makes it a bit noisy (from corridor and other rooms) and rooms were a bit cold. Very cosy interior, you would feel like at home. You need a car to town, or you can use their shuttle service.

The hotel exceeded our expectation with it's beautiful location, quiet and high on a hill overlooking Bellagio, Lake Como, and the land on either side of the lake. We left the door/windows open all night. It's a basic, no-frills decor and, we thought, a good value for Bellagio. Breakfast was standard Italian fare: granola, yogurts, lunch meat & cheese, pastries, juices, but coffees from a machine (which tasted fine). Can take breakfast up to your terrace. There were some small balconies and a large (not private) terrace across the length of the building as well as a large patio terrace at the edge of the property. With a car, we liked the location much better than an in-town property. The reception people were very nice and helpful and spoke English as we, unfortunately, do not speak Italian. The shuttle was a godsend on Sunday when town was too full of tourists to park! Take note--wish we'd gone on our various excursions on Sunday and strolled town on the weekdays. I think this hotel was the best value/view/location/size of our 14 day trip including four hotels.

This is the most beautiful hotel with views to die for. The gentleman at the reception was very nice and helpful. Our room was was very spacious with a great view of Bellagio anf the lake. Overall, I loved this hotel and will go there again.

Gorgeous view over Bellagio. Pleasant, spacious rooms but noisy on one side with cars and trucks honking around the corners above the hotel. Not advisable to stay if you do not have a car. Shuttle service is inadequate, and taxis spotty and unavailable to return from dinner in town. Breakfast was sub-standard, unless you like coffee from a push button machine. Hosts pleasant, but other factors against them.

Hotel Il Perlo Panorama offer stunning views and a quiet get away from the town of Bellagio. The shuttle service and public bus can get you back and forth to the town. If you want night life and regular activities in town, stay in town. However, I will stay at the Il Perlo for the quiet peacefullness and stunning views. We ate a nice late lunch in town, went to local shops for wine, bread, olives, fruit, cheese stuffed peppers, and had our own light picnic on our terrace in the evening. I'm a walker and discovered that there was a variety of footpaths that can take you down the mountain SAFELY to other small towns and to Bellagio...ask for directions....the beautiful walk was one of the high points of my vacation. We stayed in the SMALL room with a TINY shower...a large person would not even fit through the door. However, its terrace with hillside view, sounds of waterfalls, and partial lake view made up for the cramped space. The price was right, but might upgrade to a balcony unit next time. Travelers with cars would do especially well at this location.

Il Perlo Panorama on the hilltop overlooking Bellagio, Lake Como, the Alps, etc. was awesome! It gave us a perfect setting to view one of the most beautiful areas in the world! Beautiful outdoor areas. The staff was very helpful, spoke English, as well as several other languages, and ran a shuttle/car from town. The value for the cost was excellent, as well. Try to get a room with a balcony!

Hotel is well located with a nice view on the lake. Excellent welcome. Room was disappointing : small bathroom, very small shower. Furniture of various styles and very cheap looking. Breakfast also relatively poor. So a large part of the price is for the view! and makes this hotel rather expensive.

This property is probably the best bargain I've found in Europe. The location, on a hill above Bellagio, provided such outstanding views that I felt guilty about closing my eyes to sleep. Choose the junior suite. The extra space was wonderful.

Like this hotel and its setting very much. Only improvement I would suggest is its shuttle from Bellagio post office. It should be more frequent and free of charge. Why would you charge 2 or 4 euros to customers when they pay 80 euros for a room? It was odd, I can certainly offer that as a tip which should be much more appropriate. Front desk is very nice and welcoming. Room is great although hot water doesn't work out with the main shower (there is another shower head outside the shower stall!). Breakfast is terrific along with its hospitality for travellers.

We stayed at this two star B&B for two nights early November, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner(Piera)was most helpful and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. The view from our room (16) was fantastic. Although some distance from Bellagio, we had a hire car and found signposted directions were good. Given the time of year which was out of season, Bellagio was very quiet, but I think this would be the place stay in the busier times since parking is no problem.

We chose to pay a little bit more for a room with a view and what a fabulous view it was! There are mixed things to say about our stay at Il Perlo - positives were the view (including an outdoor balcony where you could sit and enjoy the view for many afternoons) and the helpfulness of the staff (they were both incredibly nice and let us play chess in what appeared to be the private part of the hotel). There were, however, quite a few negatives, first and foremostly, my husband and I liken their pillows to rocks!!! Also, the hotel is a long way from the centre of Bellagio (although the hotel does offer tranfers for 1 - 2€ and there are five local restaurants that will pick you up for dinner for free) and the breakfast was pretty poor (having said that, it was shoulder season, so may be better in peak season) and it is impossible not to spray the shower all over the floor (just a hose over a bath).

The hotel has a fantastic location above Bellagio and so the views from the terrace are incredible. Because of this the hotel is a little out of the way so you do need transport to get to Bellagio itself. We had our car with us and were able to park just above the town with no problems. The hotel is a little old fashioned and quirky but the hospitality of the staff was excellent. The reason I've only given 5 for quietness of rooms was that we had a side window over a rushing stream which was noisy at night but the view made up for it from our terrace.

This hotel is situated in a quiet location with an extraordinary view of the lake and mountains. Very good hospitality and comfort. The B & B offers a good basic breakfast which you can eat either in the breakfast room or outside on the terrace. A car is essential. I would definitely stay there again. The restaurant 1 or 2 Km. further up the road has good food and a great view.

We stayed at the hotel perlo panorama during 3 nights.Very good wellcoming and very beautifull view on the lake of Come from every part of the property. Quiet area at about 3 km from Bellagio, free park for the car at the begining of the town you can visit by foot. Good breakfast, you take it in the garden in front of the lake.We enjoyed our stay. However,i regret that a dog barks frequently in the bordering

We were in a standard lake view room, the room was large, the bathroom small but enough. The view was amazing, you could see the lake and the hills. The hotel is very quiet and has the best views of the lake. You have breakfast in the terrace seeing the lake and you don't want to move from there! Something negative could be the dinner buffet, which I found expensive (15 euros) for what you get, but anyways, they waited 40 min for us, so I cant complain! You need a car to go to the city, but if you dont have car, the hotel has a shuttle service (it takes 5 min to go to Belaggio center). The women in charge are really nice and helpful. Bellagio is the nicest town to go if you travel to Lake Como, and in there, I think this hotel has the best views. We would go again there without any doubt, we loved it.

located uphill, app. 10 min. from ferry station by car; fantastic view on the lake and mountains; room no. 8 has a panoramic view as on the pictures; be sure to have breakfast on the terrace and not inside; nice 20 min. walk downhill to Loppia beach with excellent restaurant (Silvio); you receive a Bellagio booklet with detailed town map at the reception; a wild torrent next to the hotel creates some background 'noise' if you sleep with open windows

The reception we received was "out of this world!" I still remember and it's been almost a year how warm & friendly our reception was. We felt like we were relatives they had been waiting for all day! The view had to be the best of Lake Como of all the hotels/bed & breakfasts around. We look forward to visiting again. SOON!

The owners are extremely "STINGY". We travel with a baby so we requested an extra towel. The mother of the owner only would give us a towel if we pay for it!!! We travelled in Italy for a month and Bellagio was last stop, and also has the worst service, we never got asked to pay extra for towels anywhere else in the world!!! The view is amazing but I would only stay there for one night. There's a restaurant in Belliago with very similiar view if not better with great food. I would only go to the restaurant for dinner and the view next time. THe location is extremely remote!!! Only one bus an hour from downtown to the hotel and is not walking distance, hotel provides 3 shuttles services a day but each way is 1EURO per person. PS. my husband sees a piece of dried poop in the bathtub, very gross!!!

The owners were friendly throughout our stay and were very helpful and accommodating. The location, although slightly off the beaten treack, was excellent with a spectacular view of Lake Como. The foom was a junior suite that was large enough to spread out. While not air conditioned, a fan kept it cool during the late afternoon when we returned, and opening the windows kept it comfortable at night. We met some very nice people.

Enjoyed our 2 night stay very much. Desk staff were very helpful and the view was beyond beautiful. Only issue is the distance from town without a vehicle. No shuttle or city bus ran after 1845 making dinner arrangements difficult. There are a couple of restaurants about 1 Km down the hill, but walking back up the narrow road in the dark was scarey. The hotel put out a small cold buffet in the evening for 15 euro, but we didn't try it, and a few restaurants ran shuttle service with a reservation. We had a great stay, and sights on the lake are best accessed by ferry, but all-in-all I think I would have enjoyed this location more if I had a car. Another transportation hint: Best public transportation route Milan to Bellaggio: Train direct from Milan Centrale to Varenna then ferry across the lake to Bellaggio.

WARNING: if you do take an italian coffee on breakfast, prepare to pay additional charges (they don't tell it to you, you have the suprise on the bill) ! Many problems with this hotel: very much noise, rooms very small, shower booth too small to move inside (I'm 182cm tall and couldn't bend myself), the toilet flush was leaking all night making disturbing noise, the breakfast is very poor. You can't walk down to Bellagio, prefer taking the car. There is a good view from the terrasse. In conclusion, price is very high comparing to overall quality.

Try the lake view rooms. They have the best view ever. Our window fazed the Swizz Alps and it was awesome. The staff was really helpful. The breakfast is not the strongest point, but the products have excellent quality, fresh and homemade. Remember to be punctual. When it says it ends at 10, it ENDS. Try to walk the surroundings. There is a reason this property has Perlo and Panorama in the name - if you can't be down on the lakefront, I think you would want to be where Il Perlo is! We stayed in the junior suite, and if you want some Lake Como romance, comfort and space, take it! Service by Il Perlo's host was 100% fantastic - so helpful, friendly and warm. Great value, fabulous views, close enough to Belaggio, it's a winner!

We LOVED Il Perlo Panorama! Driving to it, we were a little disappointed about how far we would be from the main area of Bellagio, but the drive was easy to get to the town. And the views of Como from our room (even from our bed) were unbelievable! We would never have had such an amazing view from a hotel right in the middle of things. We were able to take some really nice hikes right from the door of our hotel. Plus, being out of the city, the rooms were quiet and peaceful. Our room was spacious and the staff was so helpful and friendly! I would say the value for this room is excellent. I have already recommended this hotel to my parents who are planning a trip, and I know that we would book this hotel again if we get to return to Bellagio.

The city of Bellagio is a must to visit and from where you can take the ferry to visit other small cities around this beautifull lake. We were serenaded by many coocoo birds and a dunkey that is close to the Hotel. In the morning a Rooster was also heard but did not inconvenience or disturb us. The view from this Hotel is awesome!

Charming place with a gorgeous view of Lake Como; owners are very pleasant and try to be accomodating. However, the hotel is several miles from town and unless you have a car, getting to and from Bellagio is difficult. The hotel does provide a shuttle service (1 euro pp each way) but it only runs 3 times a day at pre-determined times. There are no restaurants near the hotel, although a few do offer a free shuttle service to and from their restaurant for lunch or dinner. For someone without a car who wants to be in the center of activity, this would not be the place you would want to stay.

Bellagio is beautiful but hotels are expensive. Il Perla Panorama is a good value compared to some of the more expensive hotels in town but it's location is not good without a car. Bathroom facilities are limited. Our first room had a shower that was barely big enough to stand in, forget about even trying to bend over. We switched to a room with a bath tub for an additional 10 euros ( and I had already reserved one of the more expensive rooms with a view of the lake). I would say the hotel was good for the money but I think if I was to go again I would consider looking at a hotel in one of the other lake towns like Tremezzo or Varenna. If you do go to lake Como be sure to visit the Villa Melzi Gardens and just south of Tremezzo the Villa Balbonesi another beautiful spot where they filmed part of the last James Bond movie.

It's well worth paying for the lake view - the view of the alps and the lake is breathtaking ! We really appreciated the welcome and helpfulness of the owner.Wide selection at breakfast. Beautiful views from the terrace, though our actual room faced the road. We used the van service into town (we had a car, but didn't want to park in town) and it was definitely worth it. We had a pizza and a few drinks out on the terrace that evening, which was nice. Breakfast was okay, pretty standard.

The lady at the front desk was very warm, kind, and gentle when we arrived and made us feel like welcomed customers. However, we attempted to use the wireless internet and it failed two times. We had to go to battle with her to get our 10 euros back (5x2)! She was adament that it was our computer and not their service. She did a complete 180 and treated us like her enemy. The hotel itself is a very nice value and has great views...its a little far from downtown. You can pay for them to shuttle you back and fourth. You also have to pay for anything other than regular coffee for breakfast and we were not allowed to bring anything (food, drinks, etc.) from breakfast to our room. The same lady was very rude and adament that it was against their policy! I would not return to this hotel and not recommend it to others.

When driving be aware sign posts in Italy are few and far between. This made finding Bellagio and Il Panorama a little "testing". Views across Lake Como to the Alps are magical (once the mist lifted). Excellent base for touring lakes area and Switzerland, particularly if you have a car. As often happens in Italy the heating in the rooms is at the whim of the landlord, and in late Autumn it was not turned on despite a sudden large drop in the temperature. Breakfast very good, but most coffees incur an additional charge - annoying.

We enjoyed staying at this hotel. The view is spectacular. Book one of the terrace view rooms. The owners were very nice and very helpful with information on what to see and do. Our room was clean and comfortable with doors that opened on to the terrace and the amazing view. The breakfast was very good with plenty of variety. Getting to the hotel can be a bit tricky. If you are driving to the hotel spare yourself the hair raising drive from Como to Bellagio and come in from the Lecco side(and I am used to driving on Italian roads). Thirtyfive km from Como to Bellagio and I only got the car into 3rd gear maybe four times (very narrow and with lots of blind curves and oncoming traffic). Once you get just outside of Bellagio look for signs to the hotel on the walls at the round abouts. They tend to be mounted lower than where you would expect them to be. Over all we would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will stay at Il Perlo Panarama again the next time we visit Bellagio.

The hotel was quite cosy and the staff very helpful. The hotel building and public/private facilities are a little worn and will need some refurbishment in the near future. The hotel was further from the centre of Bellagio than I had expected but this didn't prove to be a real problem, although I would recommend that guests have their own transport. The road immediately next to the hotel is the main route for heavy trucks and coaches to/from Bellagio and is much enjoyed by motorcyclists due to its many twists and turns, the associated noises were occasionally a little annoying.

Wonderful hotel in an excellent location. The views themselves were worthy of a fivestar hotel and there was a steep but pleasant walk into Bellagio. The staff were very friendly and accommodating adn there was always someone to assist with any queries. will definitely return to Il Perlo Panorama!

We loved staying in the Hotel Il Perlo Panorama. We booked the Jr. Suite and had a spectacular view from our verandah of the alps, Lake Como and parts of Bellagio. The room was very large with a tiled floor and the bed was probably the most comfortable one that we slept in in the 2 weeks that we were in Italy. The mother and son who own the hotel were very gracious and helpful and their English was excellent. I would definitely highly recommend staying at the Hotel Il Perlo Panorama. Four wonderful restaurants provide shuttle service to and from the restaurant since the hotel is 3 km up the mountain. We ate at BabaYaga's one night in town and La Busciona on the top of the mountain and both were wonderful. If you don't have a car, you definitely will have to arrange your schedule so that you can ride the hotel's shuttle, it runs three times a day back and forth, I believe. A word of caution is that if you decide to use a taxi, call in advance and set up an appointment because we tried to call after dinner one night when we were eating in a restaurant in town without shuttle service and we couldn't get any of the taxi drivers to answer our call. We hiked up the mountain after dinner that night.

A great place to relax with a hard-to-describe view of a magnifecent lake. It is located about 3 miles from the center of Bellagio, however the helpful staff offer a shuttle service at a low cost that is convenient. There is noise from the road next to the property, but tends to dissappear after 7 pm. The hotel also offers a great breakfast.

Stayed in Bellagio 2 nights, Il Perlo was a perfect base with great views of the lake (recommend lake view room) far better than staying in the town itself, a bit of road noise in our room but not too bad. Shuttle service to the town is a bonus but we had a car and found free parking about 5 mins walk from the centre.

This actually was a very nice B and B and good value for money. The problem was that I had booked TWO junior suites for us and visiting friends from the USA. When we arrived, the hotel had reserved only ONE junior suite despite having previously confirmed the reservation for two rooms. The only room they had left for the two of us was the smallest room in the place, just enough to fit a bed it, with a private but detached bathroom/shower. To the management's credit, they did offer us a complimentary bottle of Prosecco as an apology and we did manage to get a free hour of internet access as well, for which there is normally a charge. I would return, but would make sure to call two weeks in advance to the hotel directly to re-confirm the reservation.

The room was fantastic. We booked the suite, and it was sweet. A terrific view of the Swiss Alps and Lake Como. I would recomend the hotel to anyone looking to spend a few nights at Lake Como. The price was terrific for the spectacular view. I was however surprised that the hotel wasn't closer to Bellagio. On the map it seemed like it wasn't too far, but in reality you couldn't walk to downtown. They do have a shuttle that will take you down there.

We stayed here on my husband's 40th birthday. I booked a double room as the family one was not available. They charged us 25 euros per child as a supplement (we have 2), which I thought very pricey (most places charge a nominal fee if the kids are in the same room)As it happened, they gave us the family room, where we had stayed before. Once again, not enough water for us each to have a three minute shower each. Even when I returned after breakfast, the water lasted about a minute. The nice lady suggested it was our fault, and that perhaps two of us should have showered the night before. Not helpful. No compensation in price, and an extra euro for an expresso! For 160 euros/night, this represents very poor value for money.I have read all the rave reviews and would like to balance them a bit with mine. You didn't print my last one, which makes reviewing a bit of a waste of time, don't you think?

We had a beautiful room with a terrace that faces the lake. The view was absolutely stunning. However, the room had very poor sound insulation (the person next door brushed his teeth at 5:30am and woke me up!). Thank goodness the person on both sides to us were pretty quiet. It would be ugly if you had noisy people next door. Other than that, it was wonderful.

The views from our bedroom balcony were breathtaking and changed according to the time of day. The owner was very helpful and spoke English. We used the taxi service from one of the restaurants which was very good. Bellagio must be heaven on earth! However, our shower was tiny!

Although the location of this place is spectacular, the family room we stayed in was dated, cramped and there were notices everywhere about rules and regulations, including warning of a surcharge of 30 euros for ANY use of the kitchenette. We ran out of hot water after the second shower(we're a family of 4, and would have liked four short showers) and were overcharged for our evening meal. Breakfast was good, but to read the reviews, you'd think it was a feast. It was a cold buffet of cereal, boiled eggs, ham, cheese and bread, with an extra charge for an expresso!!!? The people were pleasant, and the view beautiful, but we, as a family, have stayed in many places in Italy, of comparable beauty. Most had better facilities, and represented much better value for money. I would not stay here again as I felt cheated.

This warm and welcoming B&B is perched on a hill with the most MAGNIFICENT view of Lake Como and the mountains. My husband and I simply loved it .. loved it too much we simply refused to leave our second floor room to visit the neighboring towns by the lake. We just sat in our private balcony, read our books, sipped our wine, and simply enjoyed the million dollar view. The room is nice and spacious, and Carlo and his family are gracious hosts. The B&B is recommended for people with cars as there is a spacious free parking area, and is not in the center of Bellagio. But even if you dont have a car, they do have a pay shuttle to take you to town. We always took our car to Bellagio and luckily found parking. I would highly recommend this B&B and if ever we do go back to this area, we will definitely stay here again.

The situation is really beautiful, the staff charming & very friendly indeed, & our room (with view of the lake) was lovely, and down the road is the best restaurant (Il Salice Blu) I have ever eaten in Italy. Superb gourmet food incredibly reasonable.

This is THE place to stay in Bellagio. Book a lake view room, it doesn't cost much more and is really worth it. Don't go downtown or on lakeside, go there to enjoy the lake. Incredible location, nice "old fashion" room, breakfast included, free parking. 2 points to notice: you need a car (only 5 minutes from Bellagio free parking but hotel is up hill). Shower is really small. NB: my restaurants choice: Silvio and Pergola!

Location and public general areas were great, staff knowledgable OK ....rooms were not as updated or "comfortable" as expected. The the "Garden view" was more of a road view with and noise overlooking grass!

This place is wonderful. Amazing location & view. Carlo was great. I was promised rooms 14 & 16, but got 16 & 10 instead. That was fine except for the shared terrace, which wasn't a problem really. The room and bed were a bit small. The bathroom was great & even had a view. All in all this is a great place. We were very happy. All the other reviews on the site were spot on.
