We came to Beijing twice in October, 2008 and enjoyed our first visit @ Hotel City Courtyard; we booked a room on our return from Mongolia. The staff was attentive to our needs, helping us find a post office to ship our parkas before going south and offering in city transportation tips.

I arrived only to find that my room had been given away to someone else. Too bad for me. Luckily I was traveling with two friends who were also staying at the hotel so I was put into their room on a very uncomfortable 'plank with a blanket'. Our taxi drivers had a very hard time finding the place and we were once left to walk around and find it ourselves.

The hotel is located in a typical Beijing Hutong, which made the expierience there authentic. The court is beutiful, you can sit there, eat breakfast in the fresh air. the staff is very helpful, there is always a person who speaks english. The rooms are nice but small, beds are hard, but you get used to it. The only problem is the noise, because the rooms turn to the courtyard you hear all the people who sit there and chat. The hotel met my standard, I would recommend it to others as well.

The hotel was some 300 years old built round a small central courtyard. It had a very Chinese atmosphere and the young staff were wonderful It is tucked away in a " Hutong " and therefore somewhat difficult for taxi drivers to find. However we found this was no detriment and often led to amusing scenes with us, the locals and the drivers all involved in spirited destination discussions. Despite being off the beaten track we always felt safe and it was handy to all major attractions. There are plenty of small eateries close by with local specialities which we sampled with no ill effects. An excellent place to stay.
