Hotel De la Poste - Beaune

The hotel is on a main street, so there is a fair bit of road noise. Also, the staff is not the best at marking locations on a map. Two different staff members "Xed" the map in the wrong place when we asked for restaurant recommendations. That said, the recommendations were quite good.

We arrived via train late on Sunday morning to find no taxi in sight and decided to drag luggage across town in search of Hotel de la Poste. It took half an hour and hardly saw one person in our travel. BUT, reception at hotel was charming and not long after the town aroused from Sunday morning slumber and came to life. We had booked a "superior"room which had all the basic facilities and a cute view over the hills behind the walled town. The staff at la Poste were charmingly delightful in welcoming us with our halting fluency in french and made a major contribution to our enjoyment of this piece of history within a thriving town.

Arrived after a long and frought journey from Cannes. Very welcoming reception with swift booking in process. Very comfortable room, excellent shower (always important!) and pleasant bar. The restaurant food was excellent, good wine list (to be expected in this region of France) and staff went out of their way to prepare something for our 7 year old. Ideally situated for exploring Beaune. Safe to say we will visit again and hopefully soon!

Welcome greeting bordered on surly. We stayed in what must have been the oldest part of the hotel. Wallpaper and paint were peeling off the wall. The key would no always work well in the entry doorway. The entry hall to this section of the hotel was a storage room. There was a pervasive stench of mildew on the 1st floor - thankfully we were on the 2nd floor. Service at dinner was exceptionally poor - orders were mixed up, tableware was forgotten, despite being the second table to arrive, we were nearly the last to leave - and that was not by choice, it simply took forever to go from one course to the next. A 3 hour dinner with two young children was not what we had planned. I would never recommend this hotel.
