Hotel Chateau de Challanges - Beaune

Beautiful hotel! quiet and peace! we like it very much!

This is a very picturesque property and would suit a romantic get away! Good pool and peaceful location, despite its proximity to the motorway. The problem for us was that although the hotel provide cots, its not really geared around young children. There was barely space in the standard rooms to accomodate the cot and the communal areas in the hotel are ornate and therefore not toddler friendly. In addition, we were charged per day for the cot, rather than as a one-off charge which was what you would expect and there was no high chair in the breakfast room. Outside the 'travelling with baby world', the only real disappointment with the hotel is that they do not provide evening meals and its isolated location results in taxis or a designated driver. We'll come back when the toddler has left home!

Tranquil and elegant, ideal setting to venture out and explore both Beaune and the surrounding wine growing areas to the North & South. Some double rooms are incredibly cramped, fine for 1/2 nights [Anne Frank's suite springs to mind].

We have used this as a stopover in France in the past. Just as good as always - very good value for money compared with other hotels in Burgundy

We stayed two nights at the hotel and found the staff welcoming, the rooms very clean and the surroundings very pleasant. The only negative comment would be that there was a lot of paper in the pool when we arrived but this was cleaned the next morning.

Location to Beaune and surrounding, stunning, vineyards by car was easy (even for those who drive on the other side of the road). I'm an academic/winemaker from Australia and it was a comfortable and relaxing stop for hubby and i (we had Miss 9 and Master 5 with us too and they were also entertained and made to feel welcomed even with adult couples in the hotel). Discerning but affable clientele were encountered. Web site photos are genuine depictions and road noise was not obvious. Air con was great mid-summer.

Unusually for Burgundy, this is a family run business in an attractive chateau style location. Our initial disquiet at no on site restaurant quickly disappeared when we realised the close proximity to Beaune with all it has to offer ( which included a superb recommendation from the hotel ) Ideal for stopover and really only 5 mins from the motorway junction

No elevator but superb, quiet chateau with beautiful grounds outside the bustle of Beaune. Need car though.

This is our first time at Hotel Chateau De Challanges and we hope to return. The setting was inspirational and the hostess was welcoming and knowledgeable. Our stay was very short but it was what we needed before our journey back to the US.

Rooms were outstanding. Very well decorated. Very pleasing environment.

A very comfortable place to stay. One really feels welcome there. The constant hum of the highway might limit the enjoyment of a drink in the garden.

Turned out to be a very pleasant place and access to the center of Beaune was easy.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Chateau and would rate the place as "find." We would definately stay there again.

We were surprised by both Beaune and Chateau Challenges. Both greatly exceeded our expectations. The foks at CC were great in directing us to some local restaurants that were also exceptional.

This property was very disappointing. the exterior was pretty, but the interior was lacking. the room and bath were very small and in need of refurbishing. the wallpaper and carpet were both dirty. it felt rundown in general.

Lovely setting great grounds and pool great for a short break. We would stay there again.

Stayed in a standard double room. An excellent 3 star hotel, staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast on the terrace was delightful. Will definitely go back to stay again. Location ideal. Beaune only minutes away by car with its wonderful restaurants, shops and museums. Will stay in a larger room next time.

Beautiful setting and very calm atmosphere. The rooms were very clean and very nicely decorated. The hotel doesn't do dinner but recommended a restaurant nearby. When we got there it was full of English people and quite expensive so we decided to eat elsewhere which was much cheaper and fantastic food. Breakfast was also quite pricey but I would certainly go back to this hotel.

Beautiful, quiet, park-like property, enough space to enjoy some privacy in the shade or in the sun. Swimming pool. Inviting building with some style, well-kept on the whole. However, rather dusty carpets on the stairs. --- The room itself (under the roof, Velux window) did not exactly have a view, but you could see trees and hear birds singing. We don't know what the other rooms looked like, but ours (with EUR 96 per night one of the "cheap" rooms), although nicely decorated, was certainly small, especially the bathroom where it was hard to use your towel after a shower because you couldn't turn around, and where the airflow should certainly be improved (humidity, temperature). --- Air conditioning is of the quiet type, TV offers some programs in English and German, too; a safe is available. --- As the room is not exactly spacious, when reading or watching TV you are usually confined to sitting on your bed. --- To sum it up: Beautiful, but, considering the quality of this specific room, too higly priced.

The hotel has a beautiful park. You can hear some noise from the nearby highway. This was no problem for us, as the fountain was louder than the traffic noise, but it may be disturbing for others. The room is only available after 3 pm and we had to wait for the cleaning of our room even when we returned at half past three.

Great place in a lovely setting . Only negative would be on their breakfast which is overpriced and not real impressive. That said we would stay there again.

Lovely and charming hotel.

One of the best hotels we've stayed in throughout Europe. Quiet and beautiful setting. Easy drive to Beaune with free parking. Our room was well appointed and spacious. We will stay here again.

We loved Chateau de Challanges! It was a lovely, quiet property, with all the ambiance of an historical property in the Burgundy countryside, plus the support of modern day up-scale travel service and conveniences! We plan to return! The cozy common area sitting room with the bar and fireplace was especially nice, as well as the outdoor seating/lounging areas.

This is a beautiful chateau in a lovely location very near the extremely quaint, charming city of Beaune. We stayed one night, had a great room, used the excellent heated pool and had a wonderful breakfast. After a great dinner in Beaune, at a restaurant recommended by the chateau personell, I smoked a cigar on the patio with some excellent local after dinner liquor that was available in the chateau bar. Extremely good service at the Hotel Chateau de Challanges! Very good value!

Breakfast price should be included in room price or presented clearly. Help to bring lugage at the second floor would be appreciated

A really good hotel on the outskirts of beaune... no restaurant... beaune is not walkable, but parking after a 5 min drive no problem at all... a great few day's relaxation... quiet and a good pool...

We had a wonderful stay at Chateau du Challenges. The property is just as beautiful as the pictures show. The staff is friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. I'd recommend it to anyone and would definitely stay here again!

WE HAD A FABULOUS TIME AT THIS HOTEL. IT IS 5 MINUTES OUTSIDE OF BEAUNE IN A SERENE SETTING. IT WAS VERY QUIET AT NIGHT AND WE WERE ABLE TO SPEND A FEW HOURS ON SEVERAL AFTERNOONS RELAXING BY THE POOL WITH A GLASS OF WINE. WE WERE THERE FOR 5 DAYS AND THE STAFF WAS WONDERFUL. THEY ALSO GAVE US SOME GREAT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DINING. I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN IN A MINUTE!

Nice stay in general and the area is beautiful

Be aware that the hotel is not in Beaune, but rather in Challanges, which is evidently a suburb of Beaune. If you arrive at night (as we did) you may have difficulty finding it. We headed toward "Tourist Information" and just happened upon a sign that said "Challange" with an arrow. My advice is to stay to the right of Beaune and watch for a large bridge that you must cross. The signs for the hotel were very helpful once we got to Challanges. We had a beautiful room overlooking the backyard area. Although the property is located in a well-populated area, the surrounding trees and foliage made it feel as though we were way out in the countryside. The staff, for the most part, was very pleasant, spoke English well, and were happy to fulfill any request we made. The only negative experience we had was breakfast the morning after our arrival. Breakfast was from 7:00 to 10:00; due to extreme fatigue, we didn't make it down to the dining room until 9:45. The woman in the dishwashing area snapped, "What is your room number?" We told her, and she turned away without another word. The staff began changing the linens on the tables next to us, and it made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. I think it would be nice if the staff would ensure their guests verbally that there is no need to hurry. One odd thing was that the receptionist/hostess recommended a restaurant 8 km outside Beaune. We arrived to find many of the guests of the hotel there. The food was excellent, though, and the dog that wandered around the dining room was adorable and nice to pet. There was also a dog at the hotel that was a sweetheart, and very cute. If you're a dog lover, France is the place for you!

Everything was great, the room, the service, the breakfast, the staff, etc. The Chateau was conviently located near the old city center of Beaune and wine vineyards. The local restaurants were amazing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chateau de Challanges. The staff was excellent, rooms immaculate, and surroundings beautiful. It made our trip to France unforgetable. Thank You.

An absolutely gorgeous place, beautifully decorated, with stunning grounds and yet extremely family friendly. We'd recommend it to anyone.

Excellent hotel, quiet and peaceful with lovely grounds to relax after a day's sightseeing. Staff all very pleasant and helpful. Room fine, with air conditioning, although bathroom on the small side. The only criticism would be of breakfast - seemed a bit disorganised and over priced. Would definitely return. Highly recommended.

Traveled with my wife and two sons. This place truely fit the bill in Beaune. I would highly recommend it to anyone the suroundings are beautiful for morning walks, bike rides or jogs. Easy access to the city and great staff made this even better. My family loved it. JW Long Island,NY

A very pleasant stay. We would come back.

The Chateau is lovely and the grounds are tranquil, quiet and beautiful. We adored Beaune and would stay in this hotel and visit this area again. The hotel is not within walking distance of Beaune, but we knew that before we chose this hotel. We vacationed here for a couple of days and had an enjoyable trip.

The breakfast was good. I was the first time in Beaune. It is a nice city with wine shops and many restaurants.

The hotel is in an excellent location not too far from the motorway. Once we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly & helpful receptionist who suggested a local restaurant for our evening meal not far away. The food was of the local cuisine & fairly large portions with friendly service and well priced. The room we were given however was very small with the risk of knocking yourself out with the low cross beams of the ceiling(I being just over 5 ft tall). The en-suite was also tiny with the risk falling from the toilet/shower with the different floor levels. If we had been given a better room, I believe our stay would have been a better one.

It was our first stay in this hotel, it met our expectations exept of the vincinity outside the hotel garden: the highway is in close distance, you hear the sound of the highway

Wery nice charme Hotel. Unfortunatelly there is no Restaurant inside the Hotel.

We had a very nice 6 Days stay at the hotel. The staff was very friendly and English-speaking. They have good address for restaurant,cellar of vin,castles, everithing. Having a car may be raccomanded (parking in the hotel is free) to reach Beaune and restourants in the surrondings. Bicycles are also available at the hotel. A very good place to visit Burgundy.

Location: perfect ; it is a few minutes drive to a free public parking right next to monuments price: just below average/value without compromising quality staff: helped us find 3 fantastic restaurants at good prices and great food Burgundy is famous for that) parking: free, on the property breakfast: complete and generous

I stayed at the Hotel Chateau de Challanges for three nights and it was great. The last night the lights were out in the back parking lot but the night person saw us arrive and met us with a flashlight to light the way to the front door! That is what I call service. The hotel grounds were very nice. The hotel was apparently the main house of a large farm estate. Service was great. I would like to go back to Beaune again and would stay here again. It is outside of town 5 minutes and is quite and peaceful. If you stay, get directions to the great restaurant in the little town of Levernois. Great food and wine cooked in an old French farmhouse over an open hearth in the dining room. Staff was wonderful also. You will not be disappointed if you stay at the Hotel Chateau de Challanges.

Excellent establishment, service focussed, great location. we will certainly go back to the château de challanges.

We enjoyed the chateau and our time in Beaune a lot. The chateau was even more beautiful in person and the air conditioned room was great! Our room was not huge, but clean and well decorated. The staff was very friendly. I recommend having a car. We rented one. The chateau was about a 5 to 10 minute drive from the actual town. I would definitely stay there again. The perfect french experience.

Room very clean although smallish, friendly, helpful, English spoken, beautiful beautiful setting. Probably the most picturesque accomodation of our trip to France and Italy.

Very lovely place. We only stayed one night as a halfway point between the Provence and Paris. The room and bathroom were very clean. The receptionist was fabulous. We arrived at 8PM and she immediately gave us two recommendations for dinner and made a reservation for us. This was very much appreciated since we had travelled over 4 hours. We didn't get to enjoy the grounds since our stay was so short but they were very spacious and well-cared for, invitng you for a longer stay. The breakfast was very good. Beaune was very lovely and worth a stop for at least 2 days. Again, we only touched the surface of what it has to offer.
