Hotel Caves des Paulands - Aloxe-Corton, Beaune

Sadly we were not shown any facilities on arrival, just shown straight to annexe rooms. Pool small, pleasant but was covered in leaves, flies and wasps, we asked for a net to clean it ourselves, staff member did not respond. Rooms were a good size. However the bathrooms, the paintwork and soft furnishings although clean are all rather tired and dated. For the price we paid we would have expected a smarter hotel with much better decor, more helpful service and a clean pool. The price did not even include breakfast. We paid approximately 240 euros for one night for two rooms. Beaune itself is a lovely location - plenty of lovely restaurants and historic wine cellars.

In general very nice Hotel not far from Beaune. The rooms are small but adequate and individual. Kind of a problem appeared to be the "Route National" just in front of the Hotel. Couldn't leave the window open in the night, which is unfavourable in summer time.

Definitely need a car to stay there. Stayed in November and bike rentals in Beaune were closed for the season and the hotel's bikes were put away for the winter. Perhaps saved me from getting run over as the road has no real bike space and sometimes lots of traffic. During the week there are busses although the last one from Beaune leaves about six PM. A cab ride will run 16- 20 euros one way to or from Beaune. You can buy a nice dinner, or drink some nice wine for the price of that little jaunt. The kind lady at the desk (I believe the proprietor) helped me with busses and turned me on to some good wine tastings in Beaune. I had a number for the taxi I used but the proprietor called his local taxi who had the meter started at 10 euros for my ride to the train station. I thought that was illegal and protested. No time to call another taxi, had a train to catch. Had to overpay for a short ride. Didn't get to eat there but had a glass of marc at the bar, comfortable bar and reasonable at 7 euro. Would stay there again but would need a car.
