Hotel Le Lion d'Or - Bayeux

A charming hotel in a charming town. Hotel is an easy 10 min walk from the Bayeux train station. Great location to base our D Day exploration. If you plan on visiting the Beach and other D Day sights I highly recommend renting a car. We rented one for the gas station/Hertz that was about a mile from the hotel. Not a bad walk through town to the gas station/Hertz. Traveling in December made for some cold days but the toasty fire in the Bar/study of the hotel was always a treat at the end of the day. The bedroom and bathroom are very spacious although there was only a tub with a shower attachment. We also fell in love with the Italian/Pizza restaurant next door to the hotel. The owner and his wife make the most wonderful Italian food.

Breakfast good but rather expensive. It would be a good idea to have leaflets about local features, such as the Tapestry, in the hotel.

The hotel was very nice and adequate. I would have preferred a shower head as well as the hand held shower. Being on the third floor without an elevator was a drawback.

Very competent and friendly staff who were very helpful and also spoke English. Well located with access to restaurants and the Bayeux tapestry. Great location for exploration of the D-Day beaches and surrounding area. Parking is available at the hotel, but should be reserved ahead of time or you will have to park several blocks away. Hotel parking spaces are very small and tight. There is no elevator at the hotel so you will have to carry your bags up the stairs. The hotel has an excellent dining room with a menu that changes every day.

We came to Bayeux as it was the commencement point for our prearranced tour with Overlordtour of the Normandy D-Day landing beaches and other historic sites in the region. We choose the Hotel Lion d'Or as it was within walking distance of the tour commencement location at the Place d'Quebec. We stayed in Bayeux for two nights and were able to tour the town as well, including the Bayeux Tapestrie, the cathedral, and several other sights. We enjoyed our stay in Bayeux and at our hotel and we would certainly recommend it and the hotel to others.

The hotel is located in the heart of old town. It was difficult to find because of the closure of streets for special events and one way streets. The hotel is walking distance to the Museums and Cathedral. Numerous restaurants and variety of eateries in the neighborhood. The hotel reserves parking spaces for clients(great help) when driving rental. Bayeux is in close proximity to Utah and Omaha beaches and Colleville USA Cemetary. Beautiful town.

I am a disabled driver and requested a parking space on the limited space car park. This could not be accommodated and the receptionist was unwilling to try and find a solution instead directed us to a blue badge space on the street that was fully occupied or to a place 5 minutes walk away! Our second negative experience was that the shower was broken. When i called housekeeping to get it mended they were unable to fix it. He said the hotel was full otherwise they would have moved us, but as he was unable to do this, there was nothing they could do. We paid about 150 pounds for a night in a hotel where we couldnt even take a shower. Very poor in my opinion. A nonchalant shrug of the shoulders and no suggestion of a discount or any kind of compensation is not really good customer service in my opinion. Third bad experience was the poor breakfasts for 11 euros, all you get is a stale continental breakfast, where most of it had run out and was slow to be replaced and a 20 minute wait for coffee. However all that said, the room was a good size, fairly well appointed and clean - included bathrobes, there was only one english speaking tv channel (cnn)- as i would expect for a superior room at that price (165 euros). Location for Bayeux was good as it is very close to the tapestry and main high street. I cant do loads of walking so this was ideal. I would highly recommend the petit normand opposite the cathedral for dinner though.

Delightful oasis in a charming town. We were not able to eat at the restaurant one night without reservations, so that was a bit of a disappointment. Excellent location. Would highly recommend it

The location of the hotel is very good. Walking distance to everything. The bar next door Le Gitane is fun and friendly. The town of Bayeux is beautiful.
