Nice Hotel, nice garden but disappointing surroundings (railway). Rooms could be cleaner. Breakfast disappointing (too expensive for what is offered), buffet not replenished regularly, not enough cutlery.

The location of the hotel was excellent and the grounds were a wonderful setting with a lake with swans and ducks. The town was only 10mins walk away which was fortunate as our room was not ready at the time stated on the booking form, it was not ready for another 3 hours, the lady on reception was not welcoming and did not offer us refreshments or even tell us directions to the town or where to get refreshments, she did however let us leave our luggage in a small cupboard behind reception which we struggled to get it in and then struggled to get it out. Her manner left a lot to be desired.

The overall property is lovely. Our duplex room was in a converted barn and was spacious bright and ultra modern. Definitely comfortable for long stays too. However, there was no A/C and the only window that opened was the door to the terrace. It could not be left open due to mosquitoes and flies entering the room. The room was stifling! Also, for what seemed to be fairly new construction there was a lot of mildew in the shower stall. One other item, for 152euros a night I didn't see the need to charge 12 euros for a cold breakfast. The place is lovely but needs to change a few things.

Picking a hotel off the listings on a web site is always a risky business but the reality of arriving at the the Bellefontaine after a tough search. There was a Festival going on. When we pulled into the drive and proceeded up to the Chateau, the overwelming beautiful parklike setting made the search all be worthwhile. The reception was gracious and helpful. Our room was clean, spacious and well furnished. The entire Chateau was beautifully restored and comfotable. Both dinner & the breakfast were fresh and tasty at reasonable prices. The public rooms were extremely comfortable and open. This was most likely the best property of our time in Europe (4 weeks- 6 cities) and I am pleased to reccomend it.

This hotel was really quite amazing the rooms were beautiful with exposed beams and very well decorated. The property is perfect and the location to the beaches of Normandy was very good too. The town of Bayeux is very pretty and close to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would definitely return. Great price for what you get (we did go in the off season though).

It was lovely, beautiful grounds, close to town, very helpful staff, charming place, spacious rooms, historic feel and elegance. No modern glitzy elements, thank heavens. Truly a chateau experience. Nothing in France is cheap, but this place was worth every euro.

The site is beautiful but our room was plain, especially for the price ... we were in an "apartment". It was awkward, toilet on lower floor and shower on upper. The price seemed high for what it was. I was also under the impression breakfast was included, it wasn't and it was 12 Euros, basically for cereal, breads, coffee, etc. Internet was also apparently not included but I only heard that from others. Bottom line is the setting is beautiful, the rooms are okay ... clean and roomy but nothing special and not air conditioned ... no fans either but thankfully it wasn't too hot during our stay. Going above and beyond was non-exsistant ... we were visiting the main building and the gentleman asked if we would like some wine, we said yes and next thing you know he asked for our room number and 12 Euros were added to our bill. Not what I would expect for 566 Euros for 2 nights for the 3 of us.

We loved our stay at this charming chateau. The grounds are beautiful and include a stream filled with ducks and swans. The staff are knowledgeable and courteous. If traveling by auto, this is the place to stay as it has ample parking but is a long walk from the heart of town for those who do not have a car.

This is a real gem, and the perfect base for, of course, the tapestry, and the invasion beaches. The grounds are spectacular, and, thanks to staff recommendations, we ate marvelously. We would return in a heartbeat.

We stayed in Bayeux for two nights at the Hotel Chateau de Bellefontaine, and we were very pleased with this lovely hotel. The staff were all very friendly and polite, and the room was very clean and comfortable. We had rooms in the modern annex. The chateau itself and the grounds were beautiful! Everything was just as it was depicted in the description and photos online. Although this is not a hotel for those on a budget, I would recommend it to anyone looking for the experience of staying in a beautiful chateau that even has swans swimming nearby.

The only complaint that I have is about the breakfast. If you showed up towards the end of the scheduled time not all of the items were available. they should be regurally checked and restocked when needed. Also I had to wait what seemed quite awhile before any service was given for coffee. Other than that, I had a great time and would stay there again if my travels took me there.

This hotel was very comfortable and our room was huge! We even had a full size bathtub. The lady at the front desk refused to speak to us in English but understood everything we were saying. She was a bit snotty but everything else made up for it. There were even swans that live in the little moat the surrounds the place. Very cute and a great place to stay while exploring the d-day beaches.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Our room was large and quiet and the setting was peaceful and pleasant, with swans on the pond (and cows grazing at a distance across the fence). Breakfast, although served in a very nice room, seemed expensive, and it would be a rather lengthy walk from Bayeux if you did not have a vehicle. No real complaints however and we would certainly return again.

The property is beautiful! We stayed in the stables in a modern duplex. We are a family of 5 with small children and it was perfect. The staff were wonderful and washed baby bottles and provided us with milk for our 16 month old baby! The town of Bayeux is also lovely. The overall location is great for exploring the region. we visited d-day beaches and Mont St. Michel and just enjoyed the Chateau's private and romantic setting. we even played tennis. We ate breakfast there and it was a typical continental breakfast but everything very fresh and delicious.

Excellent location and building; very helpful staff and good service. Breakfast overpriced for what it offered compared to many other French hotels; rooms varied in terms of spaciousness (one was, one wasn't)and heating barely adequate; bathrooms were disappointing : no proper shower, chipped veneer,no heating - some investment needed!

The chateau was beautiful, with large gardens, a lake, and great interior decorations in a spacious room. It was about 15 mins driving to Omaha Beach Memorial and 5 mins driving to the tapestry in Bayeux. We did not walk anywhere. The staff was very helpful and made reservations for us at La Raperie which was a great traditional French dinner. 5 course dinner for 2 with wine and coffee approx 100-150euro. The chateau would also make a great location for a reception or party with it's beautiful common areas and gardens.

The chateau is beautiful. Our room did not meet our expectations. While large, the furnishings were plain. The bathroom appointments were not of the quality to be expected. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the cold, unwelcoming demeanor of the proprietor. She should let more agreeable employees greet the guests. It is hard to overcome the impression she makes. However, if you can igore the above issues, you will enjoy the grounds, swans, ducks and overall beauty of the place. And, it is a good value at 90 euros.

The hotel is about 3/4 mile from the center of Bayeux, which makes a nice walk both before and after dinner. It's set in a pretty park and lake - with swans - and I would place it at 17th century. The service is correct rather than warm, but as our rooms were not ready when we arrived (we were early) the manager seated us in the parlor and brought us a bottle of rather nice Bordeaux while we waited for about 40 minutes. The rooms themselves (there were six of us so we had three rooms) were duplexes in a separate building, which, while it was ancien regime on the outside, had been completely gutted and was 21st century European modern on the inside: two bedrooms on two floors and two baths (one a toilet and one a shower and two sinks). I've read other comments regarding the place, but for a mixture of quaint quiet and modern bedrooms, we thought it was more than satisfactory and would recommend it. Breakfast, which was 12 Euros, was good, but the coffee was fabulous.

First time in Bayeux .. stayed 2 nights. Very puzzled as to why Bayeux Centre was almost totally closed on Wednesday September night with most restaurants closed, but complete opposite and bustling on the night before. Hotel is positioned quite a long way from restaurants for evening dinner if one walks because of drinking laws

We were put into a huge suite for the price we were quoted for a double, so we had lots of room. The hotel grounds are lovely, with ducks and swans, and the hotel itself is comfortable - would call it "shabby chic". Breakfast was average. The problem we had was that there was a family party (locals)that lasted into the wee hours, and they were very noisy outside and made no attempt to control their children, who were running and screaming until at least 1 a.m. We did give this feedback to the owner the next morning.

Very nice hotel, but would NOT have booked if I had realised there was no broadband connection as advertised (on the English web page anyway!). Not only did my 15 mins work result in 2.5 hours a night online, I had to pay for a dial-up french internet connection that I would not have had to do. Either Venere or the HOtel is responsible for this false advertising. INFURIATING and spoilt the stay. For those that dont need this feature, I'd recommend the hotel in fairness !

GORGEOUS Chateau with a small lake on the property. Main house has several rooms and there is a new wing with townhouse-style apartments. These are very modern, with an upstairs loft. The only downfall was the only toilet was downstairs, and the only shower was upstairs. Other than that, a wonderful stay! The front desk staff didn't speak much English, but we communicated just fine. I would definitely stay here again!

The room was large, clean and spacious although a bit cold since our visit was during the winter and there are tile floors on the first floor. The water also did not heat enough to take a hot bath. Although the bathroom fixtures were asthetically pleasing, the were not practical. It was hard to get in and out of the tub and the sinks were not set up to wash one's face without making a big mess. The breakfast was not included in the price of the room and seemed expensive at 11 euros per person for a standard continental breakfast. Our limited contact with the staff was pleasant and helpful.
