Hotel Elvezia - Baveno

This was our second night at the Elvezia, following a week in the mountains above Lago Maggiore. The family-run hotel is very friendly and welcoming. This time our bathroom (one shower room, one toilet and basin - there's also a washbasin in the room), though still in the hall, was on the same floor. We had the 50euro room, so this was expected. It was a little noisier this time, but the neighbors quieted down at a decent hour. Still, if you had noisy neighbors, it could be a problem. The free WiFi was appreciated, though it was quite slow in our room - better in the lobby. The breakfast, while not great, was varied and a bargain at 5 euros. The hotel is convenient to the Railroad, restaurants, bakery, and boats to the Borromeo Islands - Isola Bella was definitely worth the trip - and ferries around the lake. We had an excellent dinner at the Hotel Eden - and not expensive. My only complaint was that they had said that a hair dryer would be available, but apparently they only had one and had already lent it out.

We stayed in the cheapest room, 50 euros, so the toilet and shower (separate rooms) were not just out in the hall, but actually down a flight of stairs. Still this wasn't a problem. There was a bidet and sink in the room, a small balcony, and we were in the back, so it was quiet, even though fairly near the train tracks (it made for a very easy walk from the train. The toilet wouldn't lock from the inside; still, it was for our use only, so we had no problem. We bought breakfast for an extra 5 euros each, and it was plentiful and varied, though not of the very highest quality. The staff was very friendly and helpful and you could get a drink or pizza in the evening, though the restaurants are very close by - Baveno is a very small quiet town, easy to explore on foot, and the hotel is just across the square from a lovely church and baptistery? as well as the tourist office with a interesting little free museum upstairs about the local quarrymen.

We met very nice people at Hotel Elvezia. We stayed 4 days. The stuff helped us very much with information about everything in the town- we found there maps, timetables on Lake Maggiore etc. Not to be missed- the great red cat named Tranqui!!!

Stayed in a double room with no bathroom (toilet and shower on the same floor). Everything was as described on the web page. Spacious, very clean rooms with own sink and bidet. Clean towels. No TV. Nice balcony with 2 chairs to sit on, good quality. Sink and bidet washed daily, garbage removed daily. Basic, but nice breakfast. Lovely owners, very helpfull, excellent English. 2 minutes by feet to the Lake Maggiore, 1 minute to the shop with food/ beverages. Lots of nice restaurants around. If you are looking for a basic, nice, welcoming and not pricey accomodation, Elvezia is just perfect. Thanks!

Hotel modesto ma confortevole e pulito, staff gentilissimo, consigliato

We stayed only 1 night on the way from Austria to France and everything was excellent.

Propre et simple mais vaut plus qu'un 2 étoiles. Idéal pour un court séjour au Lac Majeur, avec un emplacement parfait pour le départ aux Iles. Le personnel est charmant, serviable et souriant. L'hotel est très bien tenu, bon petit déjeuner servi avec le sourire. A recommander.

The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The room was excellent, I hadn't expected to have a balcony and mountain views, and in spite of being advertised as with a shared bathroom I had a sink in the room and sole use of the shower and toilet, even if it was not actually in the room. Great value for money!
