This is our first trip to spain and stayed in Madrid, cuenca,Valncia and last was Barcelona. This is the worst ever we stayed. We booked with Breakfast and resturant does'nt had adequate food and staff doesn't know how to treat guests. They offered used plates without washing also. WE NEVER EVER RECOMMEND ANY BODY TO VISIT THIS HOETEL OR VEN FOR A ENEMY WE DO NOT RECOMMEND. THIS IS THE WORST HOTEL EVER WE HAVE STAYED IN OUR LIFE.

The accomodation was excelent for convenient walking distance to Gotic Quater and public transfer as well. We spent a minimum time in the Hotel (just overnight)so it fulfilled our expectations (we travelled in April so no heating or AC was necessary- I am not sure if it would work during winter or summer...). The only negative impression was about the breakfast: very small dining area, poor offer and staff not very friendly. Anyway, we had a great time as a family with 2 older children in Barcelona.

The stand out positive of this property is the staff (particularly Martha, who went beyond our expectations each time we needed her assistance - thankyou Martha!). The rooms are really average - the first one we were given was so small we had to put some of our baggage in our friends room (or on the balcony!). This room was also at the front, and on Sat night we couldn't sleep at all due to the noise outside. The following day the staff moved us to a room at the back which was quiet, but still a dated, average room. Be careful of security in the breakfast room, as it is shared with a public café next door. My husband foiled an attempted bag snatching (my bag!) whilst we were having breakfast - a brazen attempt by a guy walking in off the street unnoticed due to the public access. The location is good, and staff great, but this is a very basic, dated hotel.

I loved the hotel because the location was perfect. We didn't spend much time at the hotel anyway. the room that we got was extremely spacious and clean. it had air conditioner which was definitely a plus. I will definitely come back

It was great! Especially ecause the location is only 2 streets away from Plaza Catalunya, which is where everything happens! The heater was weird to set up tho, but the bathroom was beautiful. Overall a very nice place to stay!

Pro: Good location, can reach every tourists sights easily. Free wireless lan! Short walks to nice restaurants/bars. Con: The standard rooms are very small, all located to the noisy road (bad isolation). Wouldn't recommand to open the window, and the air condition ist also very noisy. Could speel only with earplugs. The bad room was clean, bad not cleaned proper (limescale) and our water tap was loose.

the location is in the centre of the town, between Barri Gotic and Eixample (5min by foot from the Cathedral or Plaça Catalunya and the Rambles) , so you can reach by foot any place in the centre but the street is always full of traffic, so very noisy! The hotel looks quite old and poor, although the renewing, walls and floor are quite dirty, only the bathroom is large, new, rather clean and with a wonderful shower! The beds are terrible, small and too soft. Many rooms have their own little terrace. The daytime staff is kind, while the night staff really unkind. The worst thing is that they gave me a single room with a small bed and we are a couple, although I booked 5 months before!

The hotel is well situated, being central to many tourist places. The bedroom was fairly spacious and had a good shower room, although with a fixed head shower. The rumble of the Metro under the hotel could cause some sleep problems. Breakfast was somewhat disorganised. It was provided in the adjacent cafe and there was little explanation about what was available and how to obtain things, considering that the cafe was understaffed and open to the public. A word of warning: at check-out, I was charged in UK £ Sterling, not euros, so the good rate of exchange given by my card company was lost and it cost me £8 extra. The receptionist refused to allow me to pay in euros, then, to add insult to injury, the Visa slip told me I had been offered a choice of which currency I paid in! I felt ripped off. An otherwise good stay was ruined by one small thing.

The location is very good and convenient. Walking distance to La Rambla and Barri Gothic. Metro and bus stations are nearby. We even caught the airport bus from nearby to go to the airport. Staff is friendly and had no problem in communicating in English. Room is decent and has all the basic necessities one needs. The common area where drinking water and coffee machine is, is clean and neat. Breakfast provided is also decent. If you are on sight-seeing trip, this is the place where you get what you need - shower & rest. You don't need a 5-star hotel anyway to do that.

This hotel has a wonderful location. The Metro is across the street and you can be anywhere in Barcelona quickly on the Metro. It's also close enough to walk to La Rambla and other sites but not in the crowded environment of them. The room was quiet and clean. And the breakfast really adds to the bargain of this hotel. The staff was very helpful and there is always someone at the front desk.

Great location for all activities in Barcelona central. Close to transportation and easy to find from airport bus. Good breakfast in first floor facilities. Very friendly and helpful staff. Urban street noise can be problem on weekend nights in street rooms due to disco, but this is Barcelona. Room small but has very useful closet and great bathroom. Highly recommend.

My partner and myself had a faboulous time here for an extended weekend at end March 2004. Sadly the weather let us down, but there were plenty welcoming bars in Barcelona to keep us amused. The Hotel Urquinaona suited our needs ideally. Do not expect luxury, but the hotel was clean and in a very central position, and right next to the Metro station. I would recommend this hotel to anybody on a low/medium budget wishing to explore all Barcelona has to offer.

It was our first trip to Barcelona and thanks to the great stay we had at the hotel, I'm sure it won't be our last. We wanted an inexpensive trip to a fantastic European city. We found flights to Barcelona on the internet which were very cheap, so all we had to do was find a place to stay. I stumbled accross 'venere.com' and within a few minutes, found a 1 star rated hotel that was given a 3 star rating venere review. At only €98 per night at a great location, we booked straight away. Hotel Urquinaona has a metro station at it's doorstep, and is only 3 minute walk from the Airbus. This makes it perfect for getting to quickly and easily from the airport. We got a four day metro pass when we arrived which allows you to use the metro as much as you want, but wont get you to the airport on either metro or airbus no matter what your travel guide tells you! The Hotel staff was always very welcoming, informative and friendly. I expected most Catalanians to speak some English, but unfortunately for us they didn't! Although the staff at our hotel were either studying English or could speak it already. The Hotel it self was very basic offering a smallish room with ensuite and balcony [front of hotel only]. The bedroom and ensuite was very clean and tidy, the only thing we found a bit disapointing was the size of the bath! it was about half the size of our bath at home, although we soon realised that the shower made up for it...very powerfull, invigorating and refreshing. When you want to eat I can offer no better advice than to eat at the place next door to the hotel, theres actually a door that leads you straight into it if you don't want to go outside first. The café, restaurant type place next door is called 'Cullera de Boix', it offers great service, superb staff, excellent food and drink and all at a very cheap price. Compared with all of the other places we tried in Barcelona to eat and drink, this was by far our favourite. For me Hotel Urquinaona and

Had a front room onto a very busy road. the staff were always extremely helpfull and pleasant and room in hotel - very good. Barcelona is a beautiful city, can be very hot, and extremely noisey both day and night. If you need a complete rest don't go to Barcelona but if you have lots of energy, don't mind constant heat both day and night. then Barcelona is a must to see.

Very centrally located, clean, friendly staff. However, when we arrived we got a single room sold to us as a double, which made a very bad impression. We were able to move to a real double two days later though, and we got a discount for staying in the single.

Excellent hotel very clean does not warrant a 1 star. very central easy to navigate around Barcelona. Receptionist spoke good english. Resturant next door to cater for evening meals/breakfast etc.. We went to pans and ate on our balcony. Our double room had 2 beds pushed together, but as the rest of the hotel was great it dosen't warrant a negative. There is even free internet use next to room 102 this room has a balcony. It even has a lift to all floors. Great Hotel would stay again. Even metro station right outside.

Our stay at this hotel was the only positive aspect of a dreadful time in Barcelona. The hotel rooms were very clean, the shower was amazing, and there was satellite TV. We were worried about it being a one star, when in fact, it does not deserve such low rating. It was expensive though compared to 1 stars in the rest of Europe, but then so were all the other hotels in Barcelona. Overall, a lovely hotel.
