exterior
Gran Vía hotel enjoys an excellent location in the centre of Barcelona, just in the business and shopping district and close to Plaça Catalunya, the main square of this beautiful Mediterranean city.
The property was founded in 1935 in an elegant palace of the 19th century which had been closed during the Spanish Civil War. The hotel underwent the last renovation in 2000, but its interiors still conserve some of the furniture and the art pieces from its original period.
On the other hand, the hotel provides a terrace with a little garden and three meeting rooms suitable to organise conventions, business meetings and banquets. One of these lounges is used as a dining room for up to 110 persons and is the most wonderful part of the hotel, being still decorated in elegant style and with 19th century furniture.

The hotel is ok, old fashion. I have to complain about the booking: I had booked two triple rooms in May but when arrived they told me they can give me only one triple, one double, one single. They explained that so many families arrived. This caused me to stay alone in a very very little single room far from my wife and son.

The man at the reception has been very nice to us and he spoke french also . The hotel is great , luxurious , and very quiet . The aircondition worked perfectly as we set the temperature at 20 degrees Celsius . I do recommend this hotel strongly since it is only 300 meters from the Rambla and all the stores and bus stops . Go for it and you wont regret it .

The location of this hotel was perfect; directly in front of the metro stop and close to all the tourist attractions. Staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. Free internet access and the use of three computers made trip planning and keeping in touch much easier. Our room was cleaned every day, including fresh towels. Overall we were more than satisfied with the quality vs. price relationship. We would recommend this hotel to friends and family and when we return to Barcelona we plan on staying here again!

Excellent location, right in the center of Barcelona, next to Catalunya Square and Passage de Gracia, shopping streets and major sights. Everythings you need to see is within walking distance. The common area of the hotel is alright, my room (especially the bathroom) was in need of renovation. And one last thing, bring your earplugs, otherwise you will not be able to sleep a second, either from the street noise or from the noise your next-door neighbours are making. Breakfast was EUR 11 and nothing extraordinary. All in all, for a short stay in Barcelona the hotel is OK thanks mainly to its central location.

Noisy! You herar your neighbors very clearly. Also plumbing i noisy, room 111 even has a pump to evacuate water (we were in room 110). Very well situated. Near Guadis masterpieces.

Barcelona is so cosmopolitan we were surprised. The hotel is just down the street from all the shopping and it's an easy hop onto Tour Buses. This hotel was among the featured in our 10 Best of Barcelona book. It was hard to find a good cup of coffee; luckily Dunkin'Donuts is just around the corner.

This was the first trip for my husband and I to Barcelona. We thought the hotel Gran Via was an excellent place to stay and particularly enjoyed the room we were allocated as we had asked for a quiet room. We looked out over the beautiful courtyard at the back of the hotel. We liked our room and the hotel. It felt very much like a grand house in Barcelona and not a chain hotel which might have been any where in the world.

Our second time in barcelona; love the city. Just a two day stay, this time, in between two other legs of the journey. Gran Via was ok, but way under what we like, particularly in terms of quality of the beds. They were very sub-stantard, in our view. Otherwise, the facility felt tired, and in need of a makeover. Location is fine--easy enough to walk to the Sagrada Familia(a must see), and La Rambla.

This was my second time in Barcelona although the first time in this hotel. I had looked at various reviews of the hotel and noted that some were good whilst others were less so. For people looking for a modern plastic covered hotel, this is not for them; it is an old restored building, as clean and well decorated as is normal for these things. The fitting in my room were all in good functioning condition, hot water at all times and a good shower. The public rooms had antique furniture which was interesting. In this respect there was also plenty of "public space" including a large lounge which could not be said for the hotel I stayed in last year for twice the price. There were two desktop computers in the lounge as well as free wireless internet access. Turned out that this didn't work properly on the third floor where I was, but OK elsewhere. It took a few days before the staff acknowledged this. Pity, if they knew this, that they hadn't told me at the start, could be just my language problems. An excellent hotel in a very convenient position
Norway, May 2008
The bed was very hard and we could not sleep very well. Changed rooms and the bed was still too hard. For this reason we will not stay at the hotel again.
Switzerland, May 2008

The room smelled badly. The shower was broken and was only partially repaired during our stay. The entire hotel is run down and needs renovating. The staff was not rude but neither were they friendly or welcoming

At first glance the hotel looked a bit shabby on the outside but inside it was fine. The staff at the hotel were polite but a bit abrupt at times. The room was large, clean and comfortable and at the back of the hotel which is quiet(the front is quite noisy). We didn't have breakfast at the hotel as there are numerous cafes around the area which were very good. The hotel location was excellent - just a stone's throw from Placa de Catalunya plus a metro station at the end of the street. Overall I would recommend the Gran Via mainly for it's location.

For that price hotel is great. Its in town centre and its just 350 m from plaza catalunya and la rambla you can do and see everything on the foot. 10 min with metro to camp nou. very nice breakfast. Overall its great for that price and I will be back there that for sure.

The location of Granvia hotel is excellent. Extremely central with acces to many tourist attractions as well as public transportation. The room was not as nice as in the pictures on their website, but overall it was ok. We asked for a room with balcony when we made the reservation and kindly asked it again to the receptionist when we got there, but they did not care about this request. I found that a bit annoying. The breakfast was good. Granvia is a very good choice if you are looking for a central hotel but you don't want to spend a lot of money on accomodation.

The hotel was decent. It was not too overpriced and the region where it's located is great for tourism. The room where I stayed was a little too small and it could use a bigger bed even for a single person but the sheets and towels were pretty clean.

The Grand Via is in the best location for touring BCN. We stayed in an enormous triple room (#117)and enjoyed the parlour with internet desks and outdoor terrace every day. The staff was pleasant. We did not eat breakfast in the dining room but it looked lovely. I had tried to reserve directly to take advantage of the Rick Steves discount but was told the hotel was full, however I could reserve through Venere. Thanks! It was a great experience. The only slight negative was that the beds were very small and low.

Great location, which is about the only positive comment to be made, other than that there was access to internet for free. Staff was MOST unhelpful in making suggestions, giving directions to places, etc. In adition, we were overcharged by about 7 euros by the taxi from the airport. When I asked the staff if that was a normal fee, they affirmed (it clearly was not). Despite the fact that we were on a busy street with absolutely no need to phone for a cab, the staff was isnsistent upon call taxis (for which the driver added a 3 euro fee, I assume to be "shared"). Spanish breakfasts are not consistent with my preferences, but nevertheless, the brekfast was only slightly adequate. All in all, other than a good location, this hotel is not friendly and is overpriced.

You can tell straight away on entering Hotel Gran Via that at one time in its history, it was a clasical hotel. The rooms and hallways are decorated in a classical period architectural style and the original woodwork is in very good condition. The air conditioning is individual rather than being an entire system for the building. Overall, I was happy with everything during my stay there.

The hotel is very grand with a really nice old lounge and terrace out the back. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The area is very nice with wide boulevards and lots of cafes and shops close by. Its about a 5 minutes walk down the La Ramblas where most of the crowds & bars are. The airport bus stops just a few minutes away so easy to get to.

For the price I paid, this is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. It was one of the cheapest hotels I found in Barcelona through Venere, and I couldn't understand why. Hotel is a 19th century palace. Lobby and stairwell are beautiful, but sounds echo and no matter where your room is you risk being woken-up by noises. I didn't mind, it made me get up and at it quicker. Rooms are very small, small double bed, but clean, bathroom sparkled, hair dryer provided. Two men, especially one in day time, are nasty, don't like to answer questions, but there's a public info booth just up the street. The breakfast I thought was free but they charged my 8 euros, but it was a great meal served in a beautiful dining room. The location is excellent, at the top of La Rambla and by upscale shopping/restaurants of Gracia. If drive, can park underground near hotel off of Gran Via. For 90 Euro, this is an incredible value despite the small imperfections.

The Hotel Gran Via is quite comfortable and a good value. The buffet breakfast is very good, and well worth the price of 8 euros. The second floor salon and interior courtyard are a wonderful oasis in the midst of busy Barcelona. Too bad breakfast is not served in the courtyard in good weather. The hotel's location is excellent -- easy to get to everything, Metro stop half a block away. I had a rear room, and it was very quiet, the A/C worked well, and I was quite comfortable there. I would stay there again without hesitation.

A great location! I was able to take the Aerobus from the airport to Plaza de Catalunya, and the hotel is a block or two away. Excellent central accomodation, very near to metro and just 5 minutes from Plaza Catalunya where airport bus stops; also excellent Tapas bar just around the corner! Hotel has beautiful, traditionally decorated/furnished 'salon'with t.v. ,grand piano and computers with internet access, and very good breakfast buffet. Grumbles: Price quoted stated 'without breakfast', at check-in told it was included, then bill itemised breakfast separately, but overall total was about the same as quoted, but obviously I could have saved money if I had eaten breakfast out. ALSO hotel charges extra for room safe key (2.50 euros per day) which has to be paid in cash at end of stay - I think this should be included in room charge.

This was my third stay in Barcelona, and I found the hotel perfect for people who want to discover Barcelona. The situation is perfectly in the center, there are 2/3 metro lines just a few meters away, and the airportbus stop is 2 minutes walking distance. La Rambla is also just 5 minutes. About the hotel, the breakfast was quite correct and the rooms are clean. Just one thing : don't except the service to be friendly, but by experience I can tell that this is one of the characteristics of a very touristic place as Barcelona is. Generally a great hotel in which I had a very pleasant stay (also because my room had its windows to the backyard, not to the big and probably quite noisy street). Only negative factor: A balcony door that could not be closed. Even though addressing the problem to the reception two times, there hasn't been any repair until I left the hotel, and my room was basically open all the time.

We were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Gran Via. It took the taxi cab driver a minute to figure out where it was, but the location was perfect. A metro station across the street and everything seemingly within walking distance. An added bonus was the free internet access in the parlor. And they even tried to accomodate the Americans by having fried eggs for breakfast, which was appreciated. We asked for and got a quiet room overlooking their terrace. It was quiet as promised. We would definitely go back there.

The hotel is excellent located in the centre of Barcelona. Noise-insulation between the rooms is poor. Fotunately we had quit neighbours. Rooms are good for a longer stay in Barcelona. Safeboxes are available at the hotel. The busstop on Placa Catalunya is about 300m from the hotel. There is a direct busconnection from the airport to Placa Catalunya every 15 minutes in daytime. The busses are equiped with special racks for luggage. The price we paid should be including breakfast to make it more in balance with the offered services. Now the offered price is exclusive breakfast. The breakfast is however excellent. In a few words we were verry pleased with this hotel. Booking with Venere is verry easy.If you want to visit Barcelona and stays at the Granvia you can visit al the interesting places by foot, although the underground is also handy and quick.

Venere Web site is not correct for this hotel. They do not have a Bed and Breakfast included option. You must buy your breakfast seperately. I had signed up for B & B but when I arrived received a card stating breakfast was not included. So I didn't eat at the hotel thinking I would be double charge. But in reality they only charged me for the price of the room and would have charge the higher "breakfast included" rate if I had eaten at the hotel. It was all very confusing. Otherwise a good location, but small room. Probably would try another hotel on my next visit.

Hotel Granvia was a good choice for one week stay in beautiful Barcelona. Even though it was a small single room - the price for one week in a hotel is always a little bit too much for one person. All in all: I asked for a single room in the center of Barcelona, in an old-fashioned hotel and with a perfect location - with little noise. That is what I received!!! The use of internet would have been a nice option but at that time the salong was occupied most of the time for meetings.

In general, the services of the hotel is pretty good and I would stay in the same hotel for my future visiting in Milano.

I liked the Hotel, wonderful old-fashioned, at the same time modern bathroom etc., very close to the airport-bus, the sightseeing-bus and the Ramblas - problem, but smal problem, the walls seem to be thin so I could hear my neighbour snoring - I have to admit that his and my window were open.

The hotel was lovely, a nice character hotel in the heart of Barcelona and faitly quiet. The Roof terrace was a welcome relief to sit and read at the end of the day. The only problem was that the hotel manager was displeased with Venere as they included breakfast in the price of a rioom, when this is not the case and your web site should be amended to reflect this.

Old but well kept place, clean and comfortable. Rooms were very warm and could use ventilation. (my room opened onto a covered and enclosed innner courtyard) Overall feeling of somewhat high price versus quality ratio.

We had booked a 3-persons room. Everything was really OK except for the high noise level in the room. Our room was located on the 1st floor on the side of the "Gran Via", rooms located on the back side (the patio) are probably much quieter. Breakfast was very good under all aspects (quality, choice, space, decoration,...). There was a minibar and a TV set in the room (which was not mentioned in the website).
