Hotel Reviews Gran Ronda

GB, Oct 2009
I was very disappointed that the first night of our room felt like a sauna. The airconditioning was not working and was very loud. We asked to change our room but it was not possible until the 3rd and last night of our stay. Fair enough. The 2nd room was cool and had an airconditioner that was quiet and worked well. I felt 2 out of 3 nights was unsatifactory and asked for a discount which was flately denied. The woman at the desk said she had no authorisation without the manager. There should be procedures in place for unsatisfied customers.

We loved the location and the lady at the front desk was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants airport transfers etc. We felt the price was reasonable. We would recommend coffee service in the front lobby in the morning. Thank you Patricia Rathwell

Nice room. Clean, spacious, good bathroom. Unfortunately breakfast was not included in the price but plenty of choice nearby to make this not an issue. Hotel staff helpful. Good location. Worth a visit for the price.

This hotel was an amazing value. The rooms were clean and the hotel staff was very accommodating. You can't beat the location. Its on a main street just off the gothic quarter. We crossed the street and were surrounded by small beautiful Barcelona alleys. The only problem were the twin beds were connected to make a queen size bed but there was no way to fasten them together. There may be a chance you will fall through the crack. Great hotel, great price.

I travelled to Barcelona with my boyfriend. It was our first time there. We stayed in the Gran Ronda Hotel, booked it on the internet because it seemed central enough to Las Ramblas. They couldn't have been more helpful at reception desk. We checked in with no problems and they even asked us what type of room we would like (even though we had booked a double). The room was very clean, spacious bathroom, safety deposit box and daily cleaning was also provided by the hotel. The room was at the back of the hotel so it was very quiet. It was a bit small, that was the only thing. It was also about 7 minutes walk to Las Ramblas which was fine really because the weather was nice and warm. In the evening though, after all the walking during the day, we found it a bit out of the way. It was a brilliant stay in a beautiful city. We had four full days there and for two of them we toured around on the open top bus. Great way to see the sights. Would highly recommend that. Fantastic restaurants and all very reasonable. Fantastic port at the end of Las Ramblas over the bridge. Beautiful restaurants there and walks. Definitely will go back but might stay in a hotel that's nearer Las Ramblas next time. We went early October and the weather was lovely. It rained one day but it was still very mild. We had our meals outside every night. Not much nightlife in Las Ramblas itself, few Irish bars but not much entertainment. You have to travel to Port Olympic for the clubs and pubs. You would definitely need a taxi. Would highly recommend Barcelona for a city break. Travelled with Ryan air who were fantastic for time etc.

The staff couldn't have been more friendly from the front desk, dining room staff and even the chamber maids. We were given advice, tips and directions by the receptionists and Cesar sticks out in our minds because his English was so good and his sense of humour was great. The rooms were spotless and comfortable. My only critism was that the air conditioning could have been hiked up a bit. The central location made travel very easy by either bus or Metro and everything was in walkiing distance as well. Local restaurants were good and the connection to the airport could not have been easier.

The position is great and the staff is friendly. The only problem is, that our room didn' t have an external window, so there wasn't any chance of fresh air and in the morning you could hear the cleaning ladies and clients checking out. make sure you get a room with an external window!! I would recommend the hotel for its position and its clealiness.
Turkey, Aug 2008
Generally location, quality and the price of hotel was fine.I didn't have breakfast or dinner at hotel, so don't know the exact quality for service. But there was no enough channell on TV for foreigners, most of them was local.I already informed this complaint to the hotel as well.

The staff is very welcoming and nice. The rooms are clean. I thought that the hotel was closer to the Gothic quarter when I booked and was disappointed that it was still a good 25 minute walk down Las Ramblas. I would have not minded except it was middle of July and Las Ramblas was overcrowded with people. Otherwise a great hotel!

We made a reservation a long time before, but got maybe the worst room, with no outside window and no curtains on the vaguely Gaudi-inspired inside window giving us no privacy. The lift has some noisy mechanism and is just in front of the rooms with inside windows. The reception was unfriendly, smiling seems to be out (actually only one person). The hotel is modern, clean, essential. Good position.
Israel, Jul 2008
Staff was very nice, they have let us check it at 10 am, although we got the only empty room, which was the smallest in the hotel, but the receptionist did inform us about that.

This hotel has a great location -- close to the Metro and walking distance from Las Ramblas. The hotel design is very modern. We did not like the location of the A/C vent in the room -- it was in the entry way, rather than near the bed, making it difficult to cool off at night. We were also not completely pleased with the front desk staff. On two different occasions, we needed assistance (first with locating a local laundrymat and then by requesting extra pillows), and the front desk staff could not help with either request. The hotel also does not provide irons for the guests to use -- this caused an incovenience.

Great hotel, great location but very very noisy, due to the wooden decor. Dont expect much sleep if staying here, which is a shame as the hotel itself is of a high standard

This hotel was spotless. The hotel has been recently renovated and very nicely done. The room did not have any wasted space but certainly was large enough. We did not eat the breakfast in the hotel as we had not realized that the breakfast room was in the basement. When we found it later we wished we had done so as it looked lovely. However this hotel is in a very good location and we found a pub selling Guinness and reputedly the best hamburgers in town just around the corner. I would certainly stay there again. Most helpful staff.

location is perfect, 3 minutes on foot also it appear in the main foot street. Numbers spacious and pure, but it is noisy. We in room had a smell of dampness and what we spoke, employees could not clean it. Breakfasts do not take - it is not tasty, but discuss it before arrival. The street is safe in the evening, but on it prostitutes cost. After 22-00 the nearest cafe do not work and there are snackbars where it is full of whoremasters, but it is safe.

Our first time and would go again. The location was good and was generally happy with the service. We took the advice of previous visitors and asked for an outside room. This was on the back of the hotel, view not great but ok, but the room was quiet and we had no problems. Overall we had a great time in Barcelona.

Overall very good; central location very close to partying district. Small room. No fans in bathrooms and poor flushing of toilets. Free minibar & champagne in foyer were great! Many staff spoke good English & this was much appreciated.

It is a modern hotel in the city center. Although hotel has many rooms with windows on internal hall. Avoid this rooms. The rooms are loud, poor ventilated and you have to have curtains on – because others can see you from the staircase (so it is dark in the room).

I was EXTREMELY disappointed esp at time of checkout. The night before checkout I asked for the number of the local airline- Iberia. The man at the desk gave me the wrong number twice. When I finally did call the airlines from the room I was put on hold for about 5 min- The hotel charged me approx $20.00 for 4 local calls 2 of which were for the wrong number. On checkout the woman at the desk acted like I was a thief for objecting to the local calls costing that much. Further I was charged for breakfast which I understood was included in the price of the room. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone! I feel I was taken advantage of and Ive never had this happen at a hotel before.

We asked for a quiet room upstairs, which we got. The renovated hotel could use another shelf in the bathroom. Good central location was very satisfactory. For the type of breakfast provided, we thought the price was a little high. Overall we were pleased with the staff, hotel and visiting Barcelona.

I had to pay twice more than I was expecting and what was stated in the confirmation that I recevied from venere.com (235 for 2 nights in Rotonda (Barcelona) instead of 117). So it was really frustrated and it's good i had extra money on me. Still don't understand how price on your w-site and actual price in the hotel can be so different!
