I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. The location is excellent. Only 2 minutes walk from La Rambla and the metro station. I booked a single room with a single bed in it. Wi-fi in the room, enough space for 1 fully packed luggage. The bed was comfortable. If you travel alone and your needs are not sky-high it does the job. :)

My 2nd time at this facility - it is my top recommendation for Gothic quarter stays especially if you are new to Barcelona. Security is good, close walking to Port Vell, the Ramblas and the Gothic area. Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful!!! Great local decor too. I will return to it as well!

Good price. Location was great. Air conditioner made noise but did not work. So it was pretty hot. Some basis maintenance needed attending to. Decent, respectful, helpful staff. Noise from slamming doors very loud. No issues that would stop me from staying there again. The beach, restaurants are really easy to get too. Amazing experience. Loved Barcelona.

Within 5 minutes walk from Columbus Monument at end of La Ramblas but on a very small side street (typical narrow lane of the Gothic section), this economy facility met my needs - clean, great shower and private bath, friendly staff, safe (although I would not walk there after dark alone, the security of the 24 hour attendant right at the door made the accommodations safe). If you need basic accommodations at budget price, this is a very good deal.

The balls of fluff on the floor were not appealing! I think that the clientele they cater for are mostly young people who certainly made enough noise while we were there so much so that the manager had to have words with them while we were there.

Location is great in the Gotic part of Barcelona. Very near to The Rambla and the harbour. The room was not anything to write home about and there was a bad smell on the toilet. The cleaning was not good. The hotel was being rebuild while we were there, so there was a lot of noise going on and the breakfast room was closed. Think we would stay there again because of the location.

Great for a weekend trip. Rooms were spacious and included a bathroom. Shower curtain was a bit dirty which was gross, but the hotel location made up for it. If arriving late at night, be aware of pickpocketers becasue the hotel is in a dark alley. Otherwise, location is pretty safe. On top of that, the hotel is located directly across the street from Port Veil and Barceloneta and a 5 minute walk from Las Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya which makes for very easy access to bus tours and metro Line 3. Had an awesome time barcelona was great!

We went there for a 4days city break and stayed at Hotel El Canton and loved every minute of it. It is only 5min walk from the famous avenue La Ramblas (the Champs Elysees of Barcelona) and the metro line. It is is perfect for people who want to be right in the city centre, close to all amenities and don't want to have to commute every AM & PM to get there. We took the last flight to Barcelona which ended up being late (1.30am) which didn't really matter as there is a 24h reception in the Hotel El Canton. We paid €28 Taxi probably because at 1am there was very little traffic. Hotel El Canton is situated as many other hotels in the Gothic district a maze of pedestrian streets full of restaurants, bars and shops. It only have one star which is very surprising as it looks more like a 2 stars hotel newly refurbished. The night porter was very nice even at this hour of the night (we found them much friendlier than the day ones for some reasons), paid upfront for our stay and were showed to a triple room for two, at no extra cost, as there was no available double room- We obviously did not complain! The en-suite room was clean, spacious, towels changed everyday, a small TV, a free safe, mini balcony and a mini-fridge which was perfect for the Coronas and snacks we bought. The first night (Friday night) was very noisy as there was a party in another room, screaming at 2.30am but the other nights were very quiet. There is a common room with a TV, drink & snack distributor and internet access. Breakfast wasn't included in our deal with Venere.com and was available for €5 which we didn't avail as we preferred the smoothies at €1-1.50, fresh fruits bowls, cured hams, crepes, etc…in the famous Market on La Ramblas (La Boqueria). On the last day, we left our luggage at the hotel and came back later to get them. We declined when asked if we wanted a taxi, Still nice to be asked. We would certainly go back and would recommend it to anybody.

"Cleanliness": a new shower curtain would have been nice - everything else was in perfect shape. "Quietness": it's nicely quiet in the hotel - except when neighbours do have a party on their terrace (happened on a Saturday night only) or when room neighbours have a dispute 4:30 a.m. ;-)

Hotel is just off of Las Ramblas - very close to the metro and shopping/eating/drinking, etc. For the price, I would definitely recommend the hotel. It was clean and safe and the staff was perfectly nice. We were there during a heat wave in July and the air conditioning was in working order and keeping us cool. We even had a little juliet balcony.

The room was a bit small (triple room) but very clean and quite cheap. The location of the hotel is excellent: difficult to do better: very close to the metro, you can go by foot on the harbour, on the beach, and the Rambla: close to everything. On top of that, they are really nice, I forgot my mobile in the room, they sent it back to me in France. Very happy from this hotel.

We stayed here for four nights. It was our last stay after 10 days in Europe. So we might have been a little irratible with things. For the price I should not complain but the bed was old and uncomfortable. The air conditioning was not on, which really bothered me since we picked this place for the AC, and it is was very loud at night, with the AC not on we had to sleep with the windows open. We read that the section of the Las Ramblas is not the safest at night, but we never left past 8 so we would not know. For the price and location I recommend but if you are looking for comfort and rest, it is not the place for you.

For a budget hotel, this ticked all the boxes providing excellent value for money. Situated just of the bottom end of the Rambla it is perfectly located in the Gothic part of the city, full of character and atmosphere, close to restaurants and the water front (which is stunning). Although we loved it, it is set in the less glamourous area. Our room (209) was spotlessly clean, good bathroom with fab shower, comfortable beds, fridge and free safe. Continental breakfast cost 5 eu which was adequate if a bit limited. Staff were helpful and offered us the use of a shower room on our last day after checking out at 12.00 midday. There was a bit of noise in the night but nothing to worry about and not in the league that some reviewers have mentioned. If you staying here, dont bother with airport tranfers (we were quoted 140 Euros return). For 20 euros we caught the airport bus which stops at the Placa Catalunya at the top of the Rambla and walked to the hotel - 20 minute stroll and thoroughly entertaining with all the street artists and stalls to take in. Top tip - if you have time buy a 2 day open top bus ticket which will take you all over Barcelona with guided tours. Cost 23 eu for 2 days but worth it. Overall we would recommend El Canton for a no frills Hotel and will stay again next time we go.

The room was small, but it was incrediably noisy and the air conditioning was not working properly. If you get a street side room, you can hear people's conversation 30-40 meters from the hotel entrance. You get what you pay for, but even this was too much. If you can a non-street side room, it may be a good value.

This is a nice budget hotel, with modern bathrooms and clean, but sparse rooms. We just stayed one night before leaving on a cruise and this room was easy to get to from the airport by bus and metro and easy to get to the ship the next day.

Hotel El Canton was exactly as advertised on Venere - great value in a terrific location. The rooms are small but clean and functional. I was happy to have an electronic safe in my room. And the front desk was very helpful in providing recommendations for restaurants, navigation, etc. (they all spoke good English). For those looking for a simple and cheap place to stay in the heart of it all - but not a room to spend much time in - this is a good choice.

Nice hotel, perfectly located in the city centre. My room was clean and (quite unusual outside Italy) with a bidet! The WiFi was ok in the public area, but not reliable in my room. Unfortunately the public area (i.e. where you can have the breakfast and where you can use WiFi) is a smoking area "too smoked" for a non-smoker

This is a very secure facility between La Rambla, the Gothic Quarter and beautiful Port Vell. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms compact but nicely kept and include a small refridgerator. Internet access on site and well configured (appears to auto-delete browsing history on exit, an excellent setup). Nothing but praise for the El Canton, we will go back again.

Very clean well run place. Staff pleasant but could do with a bit more info about things available in the area, i.e restaurants. It was very noisy despite there being notices on the walls asking for silence after 11.30, this is not the fault of the hotel rather the selfish behaviour of guests. Better to approach the hotel from the bottom as per their instructions for arrival. The top end of that street is less than salubrious, there is a drug dealing and street robbery problem at the top end. Its a good value for money place to stay.

Was a decent enough place, excellently located-in close range to everything. Rooms were a little smelly -the drains or something? and the 5 euro breakfast was fairly average. Overall, not too bad. We didn't really spend much time in the room, so in the end it was perfect for what we needed.

The reception people are very helpfull and friendly and they all speak english. the rooms are nice and clean. nice hotel, however for those who can not climb stairs it's not recommended, the hotel is situated at the third floor of an old palace. the breakfast is served in a near cafe, it consists of one coffee or tea and one bread ( salty or sweet). overall, it's a nice budget hotel, well situated near the train and bus station.

I must admit that I was a little sceptic when I arrived at the hotel. It was cheap, I knew that it was situated in a narrow street in the very old part of the town, and the driver had also some problems in finding the street when I came there. But I was fully taken by surprise and this is a hotel I with pleasure can recommed everyone who want "value for money"! It will certainly be "my hotel" when I go back to Barcelona. My room was however very little (single room), but taken the price into consideration, I was more than content. It was nice and clean and the overall standard at the hotel was very good. There was also installed a safe in my room which worked. The hotel is situated close to la Rambla and only 3 minutes on foot to Plaza Reial and in walking distance to the Picasso museum and to both cathedrals. I would at the same time like to recommend the outdoor restaurants - close to the hotel, in "Passeig de Colom". These restaurants are a bit off the tourist route, but they offered delicious food to a reasonable price. And to all travelers to Barcelona - do not forget that there are pickpockets everywhere in the city - so be aware!!!

Although asked for several times, the concierge wasn't able to include the requested information on the hotel payment bill at the time I was leaving. otherwise the hotel is fine and location just charismatic. enough bars and shops around. didn't try the breakfast. the rooms are really small, but that's perfectly overweighed with a really good price. I would stay there again.

Hotel was as advertised. Excellent location, and the breakfast is a good deal for 5 euro. Breakfast room was nice. Our room was just OK. However, there were a lot of young people staying in the hotel (felt more like a youth hostel) and we could hear every bit of their comings and goings until about 4:00am. The hotel doors don't block any sound, and you can hear every voice and door slam, and there were many.

Really good hotell for the low price. We were two friends who thought we were going to get a small room with an even tinier bathroom for that cost but were instead positively surprised with a spaceous room and fresh big bathroom! The breakfast for additional 5€ is good too! The cleaning execellent and on a daily bases. The staff in the reception and kitchen were real friendly too. The only downsize for me was that the balcony door had no isolation whatsoever soyou could really hear the noises on the street outside even with the door closed. But I am sure that if you ask for an interior room, you will not have that problem. Would definately stay here again and warmly recommend it to everyone I know! Thank you El Cantón for making our stay in BCN wonderful!

Cheap and cheerful hotel in superb location just a stone's throw from the Ramblas and Placa Real. Hotel was clean and beds comfy - couldn't really ask for more for the price. The streets round the hotel can be a bit dodgy at night but this basically applies to the whole bottom half of the Ramblas after dark. As long as you are not alone, you are generally fine.

Very friendly staff. Father knew more Irish than we did. Lovely basic breakfast ,worth the 5 euro as there was a choice that suited all in our group. Great location for everything, we walked every where. I found it noisey from the corridors at night but the others in my group didnt hear a thing! We returned before midnight each night so dont know what its like on the street very late. We felt safe in the area and the hotel is very secure.Out the door to the left keep walkung straight for about 5 mins and you come to a plaza with lovely resturants for lunch or dinner. But Watch your belongings when on the move as in any City.Would return again.

The location of El Canton and the price/value ratio are excellent. The rooms are clean and the set up is very good. Some of the front desk staff (in general all the younger ones) were very friendly and extremely helpful. The older gentleman on the overnight shift, not as much so. But overall, especially considering how reasonable the price is, if one is looking for a very clean basic place to stay, this is a great choice. As an added note--please guard your personal belongings carefully while in the street. Barcelona has many pickpocketers. Thefts are very common. Take precautions before you go (i.e., don't put all your cash in one place, separate your cards and keep them in two different places, etc.)

The surroundings is a bit loudly and shabby but you shouldn’t expect luxury in Bari Gotic area. The location is excellent base for tours to Eixample, Montjuic, Olympic Village and Bari Gotic itself of course. The room was fine, cleaned every day, specious enough, with safe for my laptop and small belongings, passports etc. The staff are friendly, speak in many languages and very helpful. Breakfasts (paid separately) a little bit monotonic but again, if you stay there for few days as most tourists do, you can bear it (you can always go to placa Reial for morning coffee instead). In general: good price/performance factor. I would stay there if I went to Barcelona again.

El Canton is 5 mins walk from La Rambla and 10 mins walk to the Barri Gotic. We stayed for 3 nights and paid an extra 5 Euros each for breakfast which includes cereals, toast, cold meats etc and as much coffee and tea as you can drink! Our room was on the third floor over the reception with a small balcony but was noisey in the early hours but hey it was over the weekend and after sightseeing all day we still slept well! Buy a T10 ticket for travelling its 7.40 Euros each which we used to and from the airport on the train and metro whilst on our holiday - bargain!! Good Irish Pub just around the corner which serves good pub grub at a reasonable price.

Not much in the way of assistance is given by staff here. Room small, but tidy and neat. Mine was next to the lift which was noisy every time someone used it. Its a handy location just off La Rambla, but in the evening/night some seedy characters can be about in the vicinity of the hotel.

Excellent budget hotel, room and bathroom were very large and the shower was great. Perfect location for visiting Barcelona, would definitely go back.

Very central, modern and comfortable place to stay. Quite noisy for internal (thin walls) and external (lively neighbourhood) reasons. I would recommend this place as the price (70€ for a twin bedroom) was low for the location. Breakfast is charged 5€ but we did not try it. Good value for the price.

This hotel was tough to rate because I stayed here 2 times this month and in different rooms each time. I was traveling alone and was originally put in 305 which was fine (the cheapest rate). The second time, I was put in 201 which backs onto the alley plus you are close to the front street - so, with all the people yapping as they walked by, I couldn't sleep. And it's also immensely tiny in comparison to 305. The shower is the smallest I have ever seen. And both rooms were the same price. So, if you are a single traveller and can get the larger room at the lowest rate, go for it. Otherwise, get a bigger room and pay the extra 10 euros. Make sure it's at the back. Great location, 2 of the 3 front desk staff are great (the 3rd one is not very friendly) and the price is right.

El Canton is a nice place to stay. Excellent location. BUT our room on the first floor gives out on to a narrow street (typical of El Barrio Gotico) but SO noisy. You can hear everything and Spaniards/Catalans stay out late... In short not recommended for light sleepers. Room was nice so ask for one giving out to the back of the building and you might have more luck. Good value all in all.

The location was really good cos you could walk to The Ramblas and Gothic Quarter in a few minutes and there are some cool bars close by. As for value for money it is quite worth it. However, the level of cleanliness was very poor.

It is very nice hotel for the price. The street is somewhat scatchy at night in the last 50 feet in either direction around the hotel. Then it is lively and safe. Great location and helpful staff.

The hotel is not fancy but has an excellent location, is clean, and most of the staff are terrific. The breakfast is simple but well worth the price, particularly if you like unlimited coffee.

Our first stay will not be our last! The hotel offers very nice, calm rooms for very low prices! And very near Rambla, and in the middle of Old Town!!! They didn't find us in their lists from Venere when we arrived. That could have been a problem in high season... The breakfast was excellent, and they offered extra service on my husbands 50. birthday as well! We will recommend it to all our friends.

Very nice hotel. Perfect location very near to Rambla and beach (15 min walk)As a first reaction - a bit dark at night and not friendly district, but actually appears very nice and calm. Very clean but tiny room, but well done, with conditioner and all new aquipment in bathroom. Very nice staff, free internet in lobby. Nice stay.

Hotel rooms would benefit from double glazing to reduce noise from street which could be noisy particularly in middle of night.

Buona vacanza a Barcellona!!!

We stayed only for one night. The location near the pier was excellent for the purpose of our travel (to take part in the five days cruise). And buffet breakfast for only 5 EUR served in large breakfast room was delicious. El Canton hotel has very good location nead Las Ramblas Avenue with many tipical restaurants and shops.

We had a very positive experience here. It is in the Gothic district so it was a bit tricky for the cabbie to find (as it's in a narrow street one-way) . close to nightlife and restaurants, but far enough from la rambla that it's a good place to rest. close enough to la rambla that there was alot for us to do. Gothic district is in my opinion the best place to stay in Barcelona, and the Canton was a nice affordable option for travellers like us. We even had a balcony overlooking the medieval street. Desk staff spoke english and were very friendly even at night.
