The hotel is perfectly located just off the Rambla. The staff is polite and relatively helpful. Anyway, a notice about upcoming major events (such as a General Strike for example) in the elevator or let say around the reception area like a day or so in advance would be just great ...! Bottom line - great value for money and still - you get what you paid for.

We chose this hotel for its location, in a side street just off Las Ramblas, and close to the underground station. We were not disappointed. It is surprisingly quiet (apart from some odd noises from the air con) for its location - and we had a room at the front.

This is an excellent hotel, situated in a safe side street a minute's walk from Las Ramblas and five minutes from the Placa Catalunya where the airport bus and city tour buses stop. All the staff were friendly, charming and helpful. Our room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. We would recommend a two-day ticket on the hop-on / hop-off bus-tour as an excellent way of seeing the city. It's cheaper to buy the ticket pack, which also includes discounts for many of the sights, from hotel reception. One hint for your return journey: if you came on Easyjet (as many English visitors do) the return flight is from Terminal 2C, which makes it essential that you catch the A2 bus to the airport. Even this drops you outside Terminal 2B which is a fair hike from 2C, but if you make the mistake of catching the A1 bus (which you probably came on FROM the airport)you will be dropped outside Terminal 1 and be faced with a disagreeably lengthy trek. I got this tip unbidden from one of the receptionists as I collected the cases which we had been allowed to leave in the luggage room on the last day. We would highly recommend the Cortes, and will certainly stay there again if we return to Barcelona.

This is a low cost hotel in a very central location near the Ramblas and Plaza Espana. We found it fairly quiet although in a lively neighborhood. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was quite small and the bathroom was spartan. Overall a utilitarian choice of lodging.

Extremely convenient location, short walk away from Plaza Catalunya (served by the airport bus), the top of Las Ramblas, and the historic cathedral. Slightly odd that no plugs provided for the bathtubs, so can only take a shower -- front desk responds that they have "had problems with the water". Ask for a double bed if you want one, otherwise you are put in a room with twin beds.

Good budget accommodation in the center of Barcelona, convenient access to Metro, bus and Rodiales at Placa de Catalunya/Passeig de Gracia. Convenient to Las Ramblas, Raval, Born, Ciutat Vella, Picasso Museum, Bouqueria, etc. Found the room and facilities adequate and clean, and staff competent. Typical two-star accommodation. Due to location in the heart of the tourist area, the hotel is best suited for those on a tight budget or looking for the atmosphere of Las Ramblas and the surrounding environs. Families or more mature guests may wish to look elsewhere owing to location. Other parts of Barcelona offer a more relaxed, grown-up atmosphere that is not so geared to preying on tourists or attracting the backpacker set.

You couldn't pick a better Hotel. Spacious, spotless, very courtious and friendly staff, perfect location. Location indicator could be a little clearer. Walking from Plaza Catalunya down Las Ramblas - first turn on left (narrow street), keeping to left of fork. Hotel is half way down on left hand side. Will recomend this Hotel to all I know who are going to Barcelona - which is a fantastic city.

Very nice, friendly, clean and neat hotel for the very good price and location. Seemed to bee newly renewed. Room and bathroom were fresch and neat. Allthough in the very middle of the city the Sant Anna street is quiet in the evenings. It's a walking area and there are only few small restaurants in the street. The old town, main shopping areas and the "new town" with broad boulevards, restaurants and all Gaudi houses are all in walking distances. Airport buss is 5 min from the hotel as well as metro, town busses and touristinformation (Placa Catalunya). I varmly recommend the hotel when you want to be in the middle of the city and don't want to pay too much.

For a first-timer, which is what I was, this is a good hotel. It is located very close to the main transportation hub (Plaza Catalunya) and the main bar/restuarant area (Hotel is in Barri Gothic). It is also very clean, but is barebones. You can probably find much more equipped hotels in Barcelona for the same price, but Cortes throws in the free breakfast and everything there works, e.g., Internet access worked really well. Breakfast is functional and relatively hearty, but is served in a good restaurant with nice service. I liked the place as a first time hotel in Barcelona, but now that I know the city I would probably pick a place a little further away from the action that has more value for money.

This hotel was a great find. The location is excellent - easy to get to from the airport, just around the corner from Catalunya, buses, metro lines etc. All the basics could be found within a few minutes walking of the hotel - shops, restaurants, internet cafe in the next street and tourist attractions - The Ramblas, Gothic Quarter, Cathedral etc. As an older, single, female traveller I found the area as safe as any other at night, with lots of tourists around. The reception desk was manned at all times and there were security cameras on all floors. All the staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful. The reception staff spoke English and were happy to provide information and directions. The room was small, basic but clean and had everything needed. (I took my own travel kettle for hot drinks. Cold drinks were available from a machine in the reception). The walls were thin, so noise travelled a little. Breakfast was a simple continental type - selection of rolls, meat, cheese, jam with juice and coffee, more than enough to start the day. I will certainly return to Hotel Cortes and would recommend this hotel for its convenience and great location, although perhaps not for children or groups because of the size.

Great location, very affordable rooms with private baths. My only complaint with the room was that the shower curtains were sometimes unruly and got water all over the floor of the bathroom. Friends stayed at much more expensive places just a block away and I have no regrets staying right in the Gothic Quarter which can be sometimes a bit loud with the church nearby, but I always have earplugs when I travel to drown out screaming children on long flights so it didn't bother me. The location is great as the Gothic Quarter is full of shops and things to do and you will be barely spending any time in your room. The one thing I would request of the hotel is to get wireless internet access. All of the other hotels in the same neighborhood have it as I was able to quietly get a wireless signal from the hotel across the street. Otherwise, highly recommended.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Placa de Catalunya where the Airport Bus dropped us off. Very easy to find. La Rambla was literally a minute's walk away. Plenty of Tapas Bars close by - we found quite a few the other side of La Rambla. Most bars are too small for a large party (we travelled with 8 people). Steer clear of La Rambla for drinks / meals unless you want to get fleeced. We paid £ 5 for a pint of Fosters in an "English" bar and nearly £ 10 for a litre in a restaurant (no drinks prices on the menu - I wonder why?). Forget the stories about Barca being a 24 hour city though, it isn't even a 7 day week city. The whole city appeared to close on Sunday. Bars / restaurants away from La Rambla were few and far between on Sunday night. I would hazard a guess and say more than 80% of places were shut. Still, it was a good weekend and the Hotel Cortes was fine - a bit noisy at the front though.
