There are no surroundings belonging to the hotel, just La Rambla. We got a room over looking La Rambla. If noise bothers you, don't book a room that faces the street; but if you like watching what happens on the street it is great.

The hotel is in a PERFECT location. The rooms were small for 2 people but it worked out well. The maid (Dori) was excellent. Our room was always cleaned perfectly. She is so efficient. The 24-hour buffet was good and it did save us some money. Overall, I would definately recommend your hotel. I give it a 10!

The location of the hotel can not be beat. Everything is at your door step. Restaurants, shopping, open market with meats, fruits and vegetables and best of all, the Ramblas. The hotel is on the second and third floor and is unusual in its configuration. It is old--something out of a different era. Staff and guests were friendly and helpful. Very clean with a comfortable bed.

This is a 1/2 Star hotel posing as a 3 Star. The location is great, right on the Ramblas. It was all down hill from there, the elevator went out over the weekend and we had to walk up 2 flights to the lobby and 2 more to our room. Overall the place is very run down, but the staff was very attentive and cooperative.

We were 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Two night stay before cruise holiday. Hotel is old style and a bit quirky and four beds in one room was a bit cramped but great for a short stay. Super location with balcony overlooking Les Rambles. Free buffet and beer (and wi-fi) was a great boon! Would use again. Thanks

The location, just on La Rembla near Plaza Catalunya, was the first raison why we choose the Continental.Very convenient. We had a room with a balcony on La Rambla and did take our breakfest watching people passing. The room was clean , ok for us. They have free coffe, juice, wine, beer, ice cream, and continental breakfest. There is a lot of restaurants and food stores around.Barcelona is a wonderful place, and we did walk from the hotel to see the majority of the sites we did want to see. Next time we stay in Barcelona , we will definitively choose this hotel again.

Hotel very close to both bus and metro so great for travelling to and from airport. The decor is somewhat faded but hotel is very quirky and we found the all day buffet very enjoyable and useful during our stay and loved the complimentary beer, coffee and tea. The chicken wings and potato wedges went down particuarly well too. One suggestion for the bathroom is that there should be a handrail fitted by the bath for safety when you are getting in and out as the bath is quite high to climb in and out of. We would definitely return to Hotel Continental when we visit Barcelona again.

Hotel Continental Barcelona is an excellent option for discovering central Barcelona. Walking distance to major attractions and exciting shopping including a food market. The hotel has a different, very pink interior decoration, cosy and homely. The reception staff speak excellent english, and are very helpful. Their 24h buffet (included in room price) is a brilliant idea if you just want a snack or a glass of wine in the afternoon, since dinner is late in Spain. As a journalist I have been travelling a lot, and this is a hotel I highly recommend if you want value for your money and want to stay where the action is!

The staff was great! The room had full accommodations. The location on La Rambla near Placa Catalunya was a convenient launching point for sightseeing in the Gothic Quarter as well as trips on the metro and public transportation. The set up of the hotel is a little different than we normally encounter, with shared spaces among multiple hotels in the same stairwell and elevator, but I have no complaint. The security was excellent and the staff was extremely competent, friendly and helpful.

We stayed one night prior to our cruise. The hotel was very clean and the staff extremely helpful. They had a small buffet 24/7 which also included drinks and beer. The location was excellent. The hotel overlooked Rambalas street where all the activity never stopped. If your room was facing Rambalas you were not able to get a good nights sleep due to all the noise from the street. I would definitely recommend this hotel, why because it was a great expierence and we were impressed by all the street activity.

Some confusion on our rooms upon arrival in late evening. One VERY small, poor room was changed the next day & other room not twin beds or balconies as requested. Staff very pleasant & helpful. Photos listed are NOT accurate re: buffet. Is a basic 2-3 star hotel. Location was what we were looking for on the very busy & fun La Ramblas and was great for us. AC was great (end of July). Buffet breakfast & drink buffet were good to have. Good price. Recommend for people on a budget, basic accommodations, wanting to be in the heart of Barcelona or just using as a place to sleep.

This is our second time in Barcelona and 2nd time at the Continental. We would not stay anywhere else. It is worth paying a bit more for a room with a balcony over Las Ramblas as the sights and sounds are what make Barcelona so special. People don't believe me when I comment on a hotel with FREE BEER but believe me it is true. It is now even better as the beer is on draught (rather than cans). The 24 hour buffet is a real eyeopener and can save you lot of money. We snacked everyday on the little tapas meals and barely had to eat outside of the hotel. This is a superb hotel that is ideally situated on Las Ramblas that must be visited - I can't wait for our next trip back.

The hotel is located on La Rambla - main street of the city and occupies only one floor - the rest of the building is occupied by other one- and two-star hotels. The rug in the lobby and in the corridor is very old and stained, ceiling is covered by hanging fabric. The room had a safe that the hotel didn't insure, fridge and the worst towels that I had ever used. They were old and smeled when wet. On a bright site - the lobby had a computer with a free internet and free beverages including beer. We stayed there only one night on a way home but I would look for another hotel if I had to stay there longer.

This hotel would not suit everyone, but the location was excellent, service good and helpful and the free buffet made it even better value. Just awful. Hotel is on 2nd floor and you can go there only by a small lift. Two other hostels/hotels use this same lift. The 24h buffet is nothing. Just toast, cereals, juice, old eggs etc. Water, beer and soft drinks okey. The way they serve everything – just awful.Plastic cups, old and dirty coffee "machine". There are old and dirty carpets, floors and walls. My room was like room horror cabinet: dark, dusty, ugly. Still, the bathroom was okey. Only one good thing was the view from balcony to La Rambla. But there was only one balcony in lobby/rest room/breakfast room. Maybe the rooms with balcony are better than mine. I wonder how this hotel can have three stars. Has anyone checked it during last 50 years?

We enjoyed this funky hotel. It is right on La Rambla..that could be a plus or a negative. The location is very convenient and the services are quite good. Bottled water & soda are offered free of charge. There is free internet service at the front desk and they will mail the hotel's post card free of charge to all your friends & relatives! My husband got his before I returned home from my trip. We booked a triple for 3 women & the set-up was very much to our liking. We had one room with a double bed (kind of tight), a bathroom separated it from the other bedroom, which had 2 single beds, plus we had a powder room. The walking space was limited so if one had a lot of luggage it could be difficult. It was decorated bordello style, but added to the charm. the only complaint was it could have been a little cleaner. Breakfast was very good & served till late in the day. The front desk was very helpful. They gave us a great tapas restaurant, not far from the hotel, to try. We ate there twice! Barcelona is a wonderful city with lots to do. La Rambla made me a little uneasy while walking it the first night (very crowded), but I loved sitting on the hotel's balcony in the public area over- looking the street. If you want a funky hotel that has New Orleans type charm, this is your place.

Good choice of a hotel....great location from which to walk, and enjoyed sitting on our balcony and watching all the world go by. Nice open buffet which gave us snacks whenever we needed with plenty of choices and fresh fruit. Front door is a bit difficult to find....there are 3 hotels who share the front door and elevator...this one is on the 3rd floor, and one enters the hotel lobby off the main hallway of the building which holds the staircase and elevator. Small room....3rd bed for our daughter was a pullout (trundle) from one of the twin beds, but adequate and priced right.

Hotel Continental was my first hotel choice for Barcelona, because I had read that in the late 1930's. So, to me, that was something special. It's clar to see why Orwell stayed here. Hotel Continental consists of the 2nd floor of, I think, a 5-story builing. It is located at the top of La Rambla, and close to the metro, restaurants, parks, etc. The hotel is very clean and small. The only room that faces La Rambla is the breakfast room. Food and is available here throughout the day. I loved staying in this hotel. It was homey and quiet and convenient.

This hotel was a total disappointment and not what would expect from 3 stars. Decor was very dark and old, stains on the carpets, dining room area was depressing, "all day buffet" had pastries that looked like they had been there for days. The room was tiny, furniture very low quality - the dresser was plastic with a thin flat surface layered on top. Bathroom had no door, just a curtain. Microwave had crumbs in it. Balcony door wouldn't close properly. We thought we closed it but it opened at night and my daughter got sick the next day. It was very noisy, we could hear everyone on the street. The "extra bed" for my daughter was an old and dirty foam on the floor sitting on top of un unflated air bed. The extra blanket they brought in looked like it was just used by someone else. We cut our stay short and moved to another 3 start hotel accross the street the next day. This, by far, the worst hotel I've ever stayed in Europe. The only good thing about this hotel was the location but the one we moved to the next day was also on the same street and was approximately the same price. And it was a real hotel with a real lobby and restaurant, etc. and double windows hence no noise from the street! So, no excuse for the poor quality.

This was our second stay at this hotel, but this time the street noise was very disturbing. It was Easter weekend and Barcelona had won at home, this may have something to do with it. This is a very, very special hotel. The service from the staff is excellent, the cleaning is spotless, the 24-hour buffet and the free beverages are price less. And then there is the location right on Placa Catalunya and the Rambla! It does not come any better. However, if you expect a hotel and a room type like some of the larger chain hotels (ex. Radisson, Hilton, Intercont. etc.) then stay some where else - this is not a hotel for you. For every one else, and especially if you enjoy "off the beaten track" locations: I recommend hotel Continental most sincerely.

This was my first time at Hotel Continental Bacelona. Onestly, I found it absolutely too much expensive compared to quality of rooms, taking into account the fact that in Barcelona prices usually are very cheap. But I must also say that location was perfect for holidays lasting 2 days, because you are in the center of Barcelona, able to reach every place in short time.

This was definitely not a cookie cutter hotel. The Continental is an old, worn, quirky place, just what I was looking for. The bathroom door of my room (380?) opened only about 18 inches before hitting the bed, leaving just enough room to squeeze in. The 24 hour continental breakfast could be a great convenience. I thought that €80 was a bargain for a room on La Rambla. My taxi driver and I had trouble finding the hotel. It is floors 2 and 3 of a building shared with the Hotel Toledano and the Hostal Capitol, with the sign saying "Hotel, 138-Rambla de Caneletas".

Having the breakfast available all day was a very nice feature as was the free water and softdrinks which could be taken along when sightseeing. The free internet and the use of a computer was also a nice feature.

I will start by saying the staff & service was the best. They went out of their way to accomodate us as well as help us find our way around town. The room was typical of euro size rooms, enough room to sleep and get ready for the day. Bed was comfortable, shower/bath was hot, tv & safe. A bit noisy at times but not really a problem. With comfortable beds, hot showers, and wonderful staff located on the La Rambla...we would stay here again.

Interesting arrangement as hotel shares building w/ at least one other hotel. Slow lift, tho adequate. Good location. Room was very small and very Pink. No space for having suitcases open, more than one at a time. A few plastic drawers were provided, but for a short stay we don't unpack. Breakfast area too small, especially since we suffered from sharing w/ a group of 8 or so loud, older Americans, who hogged the center of the room most of the time. Bathroom included tub that required some agility to climb into & out of.

Very welcoming hotel with good features. Free buffet and drinks 24 hrs, plus useful free internet access in Reception. If you ask for a room overlooking Las Ramblas, be aware they are not double glazed, so you have to trade off the view for the noise!

The bedroom was quite spacious, but in retrospect I would book one with a balcony next time to enjoy the view of the Las Rambles. This is the third time I have been to Barcelona and would definitely stay at the Continental again.

Unbelievable location for the Rambla and Catalunia Square. A short walk from the drop off point for the Airport bus service, which is frequent and cheap. The all day buffet and free drinks is a real bonus when you erturn after a hot day out.

This is an old, rather dingy, hotel that is misleading on the internet. It is definitely not a 3 star hotel. The showers were so small you couildn't bend over. The beds were some of the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced. We will not ever stay here again.

This was our 1st trip to Barcelona and the Hotel Continental contributed to a great weekend. It's so close to everything - airport and tourist buses, metro etc. The staff were great. Our room overlooked The Ramblas and so it was a little noisy but not too bad considering, plus we were able to sit on the balcony and people watch while having a beer from their free fridge! Would recommend.

I was in Barcelona for the marathon on the 4th March. I must say the Hotel we stayed in (2 runners - sharing) was excellent for our requirements. The 24hr breakfast is an excellent idea and although a small hotel, it was clean and functional. The price for 3 nights in this great city was superb value and i would have no hesiation in staying there again or recomending hotel to others.

Our first stay at the Continental but not the last. A charming and friendly hotel in the best possible location. The balcony rooms, overlooking the Ramblas are delightful and at times a little noisy from the locals holding various night meetings in the famous street but during hot weather it should not be a problem with the double glazing and the air conditioning at work. Great 24 hour snacks and breakfast bar and very friendly staff. Will definitely recommend.

The hotel was perfect for me. It was quiet and private the room was just the right size. The area it is located is in the heart of Las Ramblas. The maid is sweet, and all of the workers are very efficient and polite. I would recommend this hotel to people who enjoy a homey kind of hotel. I thought the buffet would have more food, but after all there are bunches of restaurants all around the hotel.

Love this hotel. We have stayed here 2 years running and although it is quite quirky we love it. The location is fantastic, the 24 hour buffet is superb, the staff are lovely and we will continue to use this hotel. The price is exceptional for a city centre hotel and they even provide you with postcards free of charge which they post to your friends back home. A real find in Barcelona

We traveled to Spain for the Christmas/ New Years Holidays and were thrilled with our choice of the Continental Hotel. It was convenient, perfectly situated at the top of Las Ramblas and wonderful for people watching. Great staff kept the breakfast buffet going 24 hours a day and there are free soft drinks and water/ juice for thirsty (and thrifty) travelers. Also free access to the internet with the hotel supplying a laptop at the desk, which my teenage boys took full advantage of, and something we didn't find anywhere else in Spain. We took public transport from the airport directly to Placa Catalunya and walked our luggage to the hotel - couldn't be simpler or feel safer. We enjoyed tapas, shopping and seeing the sights all within walking distance of the hotel. Our rooms were on the balcony side and were clean, quiet and comfortable - not luxurious but we didn't spend much time in our rooms, so they were fine for our purposes. Our family would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Barcelona on a budget.

Staff was great...spoke english! Very welcoming and friendly. Rooms were a bit smaller, but big enough to be comfy and cozy. Cutely decorated and felt like home. Loved the 24hour breakfast buffet and free sodas and water. Free internet and everything! During my stay, I heard people commenting how great of a stay and how wonderful the hotel was as they were checking out. It's all true!

Yes in fact it was the first time I stayed in this hotel and so I would like to know before where I could find a parking for my car and advice me about works on La Rambla which were a real problem first to find a parking and second way, to find this hotel.

Excellent Location and top quality Service. A wonderful hotel the only downside is that the rooms are a little small, but who spends their time in the hotel room. Rooms were very clean. If we go to Barcelona again ( I hope we do) then I will definately stay at The Continental again but pay the extra and get a room with a balcony over looking Las Ramblas.
