Our overall stay at the hotel Condestable was very good. It is conveniently located and the relationship between price and quality is excellent. The only issue we had was that the towels although washed had makeup stains. We requested new ones, but they were in the same condition. Also, the walls were so thin that you could hear the conversation of the people next door but that was resolved with a pair of ear plugs. I would recommend this hotel.

I ended up staying for 5 nights, i say that but i´m still in barca. the room (208) first two nights were ok, the second room (123) there was a humming sound all night which made it a bit difficult to sleep, my last night the room (102) was excellent. I have used The Hotel Condestable before and will always use it when i´m in Barca, as it suits best my needs ie. loacation, comfort, price. Kind regards Gary

We were 3 adults and the room was very nice size. However, the walls were so thin that they allowed us to hear a lot of noise from other guests(not street noise). The shower needs more of a rim around, so that water does not flood the entire floor of the bathroom! The location was great, close to La Rambla, without being on it.

Stanze piccole e sporche.

Location of the hotel is good (5-10 min walk to placa catalunia and la rambla). Walls of the rooms are like made from paper, you could hear when people in your next door went to WC. Also, traffic in the morning can be quite loud (hotel is located between 2 big streets). Actually very poor soundproof was the only problem.

The hotel was basic and clean. We were next to laundry room so heard them at 6.30 each morning. I thought 80 euros each a night was expensive -no hairdryer and couldn't even make a drink. This was room only. Did not pay 8 euros plus vat for breakfast as we found a coffee and croissant shop close by.My daughter and I were out all day and saw no other guests-wierd !!Very central for Las Rambla and tourist buses.

The Hotel is very close to metro station Universitat (you just have to cross the street) and if you like walking you can get Catalunya Square in 10 minutes by feet, the room has completely brand new fornitures and the employees are very nice and polite. We can say that the ratio quality/price is very high. There are 2 negative points: 1) the area is very noisy and you have to keep the windows closed in the night 2) they took the money from my credit card about one month before our arrival in the hotel.

To be fair, we were only there for 2 nights and did not partake of any other service other than sleeping. The noise aspect was outside, to be expected in a city, but as there was no aircon, we had to leave the windows open, hence the noise. There was no hot water on the first night. The room was drab but the beds were comfortable. The receptionist was also drab. The welcome was non-existent. The exterior building work also denied us a view. I would stay again only for the convenience of its situation and the price.

The building is under renovation works. Very noisy, construction noise started on 9 am on Saturday morning. No warm water at all in bathroom (taken cold showers). No drinks dispenser in hotel. Breakfast quality poor. Bedrooms, bathrooms, furniture etc in a very poor state. Needs complete renovation. Very noisy surroundings. Youth hostel style.

The location is very good and the bathroom was recently refurbished. But they are painting the exterior of the building, with the usual noise, dust and scaffolding just across the glass of our window. The furniture was very, very poor.

Excellent location just up the road from La Ramblas. This is effectively why you are charged a bit more for what is a very basic hotel. The reception is extremely cramped and most of the hallways were unfurnished and looked very shabby. Our room was adequate for a one night stay, but we were woken up by some sort of drilling/banging on our floor but couldn't find where it was coming from. From what I can see, the hotel is in the middle of renovation and it shows. Because of this, they should be lowering their prices during this period and should make it known they are currently upgrading/updating. I also wasn't happy that having reserved the room via credit card on Venere (where you are not charged straight away), they decided to charge it in full before I'd arrived without requesting authorisation from myself.

There was building works going on in the hotel to renovate rooms and corridors which was not mentioned prior to travelling. Our room was not ready when we arrived at midday and had to return (although we left our bags there) later in the afternoon. The twin room we were given initially was accessed through the renovation works then walking on polished slipery tiles to the room - which was no bigger than a shoe box with port hole like windows and again polished tiles both in the bedroom and bathroom - not acceptable at all. We complained and got a much better room - largera and with french windows. The room was pleasant enough for the price we paid. The hotel did seem to be full of student groups on hol though. Its a nice enough hotel and as the saying goes you get what you pay for!

This hotel was in a great location just 2 blocks off the Ramblas! Many of the hotel's rooms face the main street so the room was loud, and the walls seemed to be very thin, we could hear other guests easily. For the location and the cost (the weekend we went every hotel was sold out for a big event) we would definitely consider staying there again. The staff was wonderful and the rooms were very clean. Overall it was a pleasant stay and a great location. We ended up in a quad room, which Venere didn't say. It would have been nice to know, since we were looking to share our room with the other couple we were traveling with, but didn't book it that way.

Central location and perfectly adequate. road-side rooms are probably noisy (hotel is very central); instead, we had window onto an 8 foot ventilation shaft which carried noise from caterers, and no view. On balance that was fine, but had no feel/view/sense of barcelona from the room.

Ideal location for main tourist sites of Barcelona, especially Gaudi buildings and Las Ramblas, which suited our party. Found conflicting advise on arrival from the railway service from airport as train line was not direct to Placa Catalunya. Staff at hotel very helpful, and arranged a hairdryer speedily as not in the room as specified. The score for quality of service was due to difficulty before arrival ensuring room requirements for a group of 6.

We had a horrible experience at this hotel- when we arrived he wanted us in 2 rooms, I had booked only one. Then he stated that he needed the room key every time we left and there was NO security/verification when you asked for your room key back- so ANYONE could have walked in and asked for our room key and gotten in. Nothing was said on the website that the ENTIRE hotel is under construction- our hallway had a little area of tile and then outdoor floor mats covering the concrete floor. We were awoken each morning by the demolition crew next door revamping that room. For $140 a night I thought it was astronomical for a less than hostel quality stay.

Quite expensive to be an hotel of two stars. The high price depends only by the good location of the hotel (very close to La Rambla and Placa Catalonya) because the other elements of the hotel (the forniture of the rooms and the general conditions) are not good. Anyway you can survive there for 1 or 2 nights. Lau e Clau

We booked the hotel CONDESTABLE for 4 people - 2 doublerooms. By the booking on your homepage venere.com we declared to arrive after midnight. And so - half past midnight in the hotel - there was a problem with one of the rooms. The Hotelmanagment sad that because of our delay (?!) -the half hour after midnight - they had to cancel the booking. So the first night we spent altogether in the same room (2 people in one single-bed!!!), that "fortunely" was just available.

If all you need it for is to sleep, it is a good option. Our room was small, but we saw bigger ones that looked better. We also started getting itchy on our first night and we got a rash for several days and we think it was because of some bugs that we saw in our bed. Other than that, the hotel is in a very good location.

The Condestable is in a very good location. We had a room right over the square and it was extremely noisy. There was a huge hole in the wall near our air conditioner which brought all the street noise into our room. The price of breakfast wasn't fully revealed, we could have found something alot cheaper elsewhere. The kitchen staff also was not very friendly. Maybe they didn't speak English but they could have smiled now and again! We were disappointed for what we paid although that may be just what you get for that price in Barcelona.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location: Plaza de l'Universitat is a very central area, near MACBA and the city center. Furthermore, the metro station is directly in front of the hotel. Now the bad things: because of the central position, the surroundings of the hotel are very very noisy. Let's talking about the room: the ceiling was a real mess, with cracked panels all over, and the bathroom was a damn hole, with no window and forced ventilation broken. Last but not least, one day the cleaning room service have forgot my room open(!) all day long! Luckyly, as usual I never leave no money or other "goodies" in my room. When I've asked to the reception about this fact, they don't seems to be so much worried... After all, I would not recommend to stay in this hotel: there are better accomodations in Barcelona at the same price, only far from the center. But this is not a problem since the public transport services are so good.

Barcelona was our first Spanish city we were going to visit on our 20 day stay in Spain. This hotel was the worst one we stayed in. The only good thing about it was its position, very central to everything. The actual hotel and service was very poor, very noisy, and employees very rude! Rooms are tiny or old. Reception is the entrance, actually the door way, lifts dont work (we had to take our suitcases down 3 or 4 flights of stairs). The price of this hotel was too expensive for what it had to offer, you are paying for the location nothing more! Try to find elsewhere!

The room was the smallest out of all the ones we booked for our trip to Spain. It was actually ridiculously small as we could not even open our balcony door. They also would not permit us to have visitors in our own room, which is crazy because we had friends who were trying to meet us at the hotel and they would not permit let them to do so. I am hardly a child and was being treated like one for 85 Euro a night!!!

We had a late arrival on a Friday night. We had trouble finding the hotel, but I think that was our cab drivers fault. Our first impressions were far from feeling welcomed. The older gentleman that checked us in, made us feel rushed. The younger gentleman in the morning was MUCH more helpful. Our room was definately nothing more than 4 walls, 3 beds and a bathroom. Our sliding balcony door didn't even close, we could hear the niose from the street vividly. The white shower curtain was anything but white. It needed to be replaced badly. I understand the hotel was a decent price for the location, but I firmly believe that no matter what amount you pay, it should guarantee a clean bathroom and a friendly staff. The plus was the location, literally 5 minutes walking from the action in the city. I might stay here again if the bathroom was clean and the balcony door closed, but i dont see any improvements on the horizon. Oh I also fell the rooms are overpriced. I think they should come down at least 30-40 Euros.

We had a fantastic room...it was more like an entire apartment for two people! Not to mention the fact that it overlooked the street where the parade of football players came down after returning to Barcelona as winners of the European Cup! But that was just a bonus. The price for a 2 star accomodation is killing, but on the other hand we did not find anything cheaper in this area of Barcelona. The room was very small - something you can expect from a 2 star hotel. Our room had a street view, which meant it was very noisy. Good things: the room was really clean, the same with the bathroom. The receptionists were nice and helpful. The location was fantastic - you could walk to almost all the attractions, and the subway station was just opposite to the entrance. Generally, a nice hotel. I would stay there again.

The hotel has a great location right near the Metro, but the hotel itself is very noisy. We didn't encounter street noise, but rather inside noise, such as slamming of doors, hammering early in the morning, lots of people passing in front of our room talking loudly, etc. We researched many hotels and overall I don't feel you get much for your money in Barcelona. The room was clean but old and worn down, and the ceiling had water damage. It definitely wasn't a room you'd want to do anything else but sleep in.

We found it to be a very friendly hotel with helpful staff.we didnt pay a lot of money,so we were impressed with the location(minutes from ramblas),bus stop right outside airport(a 1)3euros70,takes you to cataluyna place, hotel 5 minute walk from there.because of the hotel being so central there was some noise outside but not enough to keep us up.we would definately stay at this hotel again

Just as expected from details on website. Fairly basic but clean accommodation, excellent position for sightseeing, easy to find and filled all our requirements for short stay in Barcelona. When you only sleep and shower in a room, what more do you want?

Spotlessly clean. Excellent location literally minutes walk from La Rambla and Plaza Catalunya. Metro stop right across from hotel entrance.

Just returned after a short break to this marvellous city. We were in a triple room that was basic but the service was friendly and the buffet breakfast reasonable. The room was cleaned and the towels changed on a daily basis. The hotel is in a good location very close to the metro system and a 5 minute walk from Catalonia Square and The Ramblas. Because the hotel overlooked University Square it was a bit noisy at times. There are many shops, coffee bars and small restaurants in the vicinity and the overall location couldn’t be faulted.

Really in the center, just few meters outside the metro exit. Small hotel but nice and recently renewed. A bit noisy because the road is very close. Reception and entrance are very very small and for some reason the hotel is difficult to find from the road ... just one door :)

The Condestable was great value for money. Rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels. Reception were friendly. Only downside to stay was they apparently had no booking details for us when we arrived. We booked through Venere and had all relevant documentation.

Overral room was fine: clean. (No view on the street however). Location is great: 5 minutes walking distance to Ramblas). Buffet Breakfast is OK (not great but not bad). (no fresh product but ham, cheese, bread, cereals, etc...) Big problem: noisy in the morning : doors slamming, and so ... (worse thing: vacum cleaner at 8am... kind of early)

Our room was quiet and serviceable but airless and stuffy. The extra bed brought in for our son was very uncomfortable for him. Though the weather outside was not hot, we had to run the air conditioner most of the night to sleep comfortably. The showerhead, where it attached to the holder was broken and one had to hold it away from the wall with one hand while trying to shower. Because we did not spend any time in the hotel during the day, we found the hotel to be just okay, inexpensive for our needs and fairly well located. The directions given to arrive in Barcelona and find the hotel were horrible. We drove from France to Barcelona and directions were not given for auto travel. The directions from the airport, which we had to follow backwards, got us to the general area, but it took us 45 minutes to find the hotel.
