The room didn't have a window to the outside. That's no big problem but a bit odd. But all in all it was a good stay in the hotel. A good and big breakfast. Outside from the city centre, but not far away, very easy to reach with the metro. The surroundings of the hotel are not very lovely but it's okay to stay there because it's easy to reach and quiet.

As I could see reviews with other hotels in Barcelona, the guests generally complained about dirty rooms. I stayed here for 5 nights, and the cleaning service was done each morning. The room looked good and I didn't have problems with any of the facilities there, especially that I have experienced problems with other ho(s)tels in Spain, and people say about Spanish things (electrical system, utilities etc.) that they are of bad quality in general. The price is pretty good for the quality, but any extra facilities are pretty expensive (the internet in the lobby costs 2 EUR/10 minutes). The breakfast is good and the price is good in non-season interval. What was not very convenient was that the noisiness (cars on the street until late hours, and some noisy guests in other rooms), and that the staff in the dining room didn't speak anything else but Spanish. One secondary good point is that the hotel is located near Park Guell, which is a very nice place, and that's where I drank the best Sangria between all places.

The quoted in the site price was $ per room per night, but in fact it was a price for 1 person per room, so the actual price for 2 persons was more than 2 times more than quoted (some taxes were later included in the bill).

Although the map on the internet shows the central location, the hotel is far from the centre and difficult to be found in these small streets. We got a twin room instead of a double one. The room was not spacious, not comparable to British standards, at nights I heard noises coming from the rooms near to ours. The staff was ok, apart from a young lad in glasses ignoring me presence for ten minutes while he was answering phone calls. The restaurant and bar staff - excellent! The food - too, really tasty.

Would have helped if the hotel has a map from the venere site...we had to walk for more than an hour with our heavy luggages through all those uphills. The rooms don't have good soundproofing...you can hear the noise from the cars on the road as well as musings from other hotel guests' rooms. Apart from this two, all is good at the hotel. Friendly staff from concierge to restaurant are aplenty (they speak English too).

Some staff of the hotel were very polite and helpfull. Thanks for that! Some members were completele rude. They had no idea about parking. Because of their wrong suggestion to park a car in front of the hotel our car got towed and we had to pay 250 Eur fine. After that she yeled at us, told us that we are blind ad stupid.. I don't think that this is the way staff of the hotel should act. I would NEVER return to this hotel!!!

Il receptionist mortificato ha risposto che avrebbe provveduto e che si tratta di un problema di Barcellona. i loved this hotel. having been in barcelona 4 times this year this was by far the nicest hotel. unfortunately,as with most hotels ive encountered in spain, breakfast was not included in the price. however the price for the room was excellent for the quality of the hotel. location-wise it took me a few minutes of walking around after exiting the metro station at valcarca to find the property as it is well hidden away. a word of advice-on leaving the metro take the exit marked carrer de gomis. a turn to the right after crossing a small road leads up a series of steps which will bring you on to the viaduct. the hotel is approx. 5mins walk, turn left in placa de mons. valcarca looks a good distance from the centre but most places in barcelona are easily accessable on foot. line 3 of the metro takes less than 15mins to get to placa catalunya. an excellent hotel in an excellent city

Make sure you exit from the right entrance from the Metro or else it would take a while to walk there. Hotel is across a bridge, past a little rotary, and up the hill. Surrounding area is pretty quiet. A few shops about 5 minutes away. Park Guell is also very close though the main entrance (with the Gaudi works) is some good distance away. A decent place to stay for the location/price if you want your own clean room.

NB: anything rated 5 - was written for the purpose of completing survey. Anything rated 5 is actually not applicable to our survey. We did not actually get to stay at the Catalonia Rubens hotel. Our flight into Barcelona had been delayed by 3 hours and I could not get access to internet to contact the staff to advise. When we drove to the hotel, the address that was given (the email confirmation printed) was not specific. There are 2 streets with the same name and we were driving in and out of the city and up and down the same street asking anyone that would help us (approx 2 hours). We finally paid to follow a taxi to the hotel (in our car). When we arrived we were told that our rooms had been given away and that an alternate room was now available at CATALONIA Aragon (in Barcelona city). We specified that we needed to park our car somewhere. The clerk said that the hotel had parking. We drove again for another hour or so trying to make our way to Catalonia Aragon. When we arrive at about 2.30am the clerk told us that their parking was under repair and that we could park at a parking station 10 minutes away, which would cost 15 euro. We were both extremely fatigued and had experienced many hours of delays (flights, unspecified addresses), and the clerk was indifferent, extremely unhelpful and unsympathetic. We cancelled the room and left at around 3.30am.

Overall, a decent 3* hotel. The breakfast is probably the only thing one can get excited about (at 12 euros + VAT, it better be). Every other positive aspect is mediocre. It is placed relatively central, but the metro station is a good 10 minute walk up a steep hill. We stayed one night and we have had little sleep. Not only is the little street our room faced VERY noisy (despite double-glazed windows), but the hotel had a group of Italian teenagers, who were partying until early hours. We booked a 3* hotel and ended up sleeping in a youth hostel. We will not be staying in Catalonia Rubens again!

The Hotel is advertised as in a quiet residential area. It is a very run down area where you feel uncomfortable. It cost more than 15 euro from the bus station. Luckily the taxi had a GPS. If it had not, I don't think we would have found it. It is supposedly 350 meters from Valcarca metro. It is a mimimum of 450 meters, a large part of which is steps or a very steep gradient. The room was nothing like the photograph, not in size, nor in appearance. It was dull and cramped. The en-suite was very small and had a louvre window into a 0.5m ventilation duct where you could see/hear through the louvre of the next room en-suite. The "individual air conditioning" was a very old small through the wall unit which laboured noisily. The "multi-lingual" friendly staff at the desk ignored us and continued with personal conversations every time we approached. Although forced to interrurpt these conversations when anyone spoke to them in Spanish, they returned to them afterward and continued to ignore us. We were made to feel very unwelcome. Other staff, although much more pleasant spoke little or no English. The food, although edible, was only just that and expensive. The room could only be classed as of Hostel standard and there are plenty of those in the centre of town. Because of our treatment at the desk,we felt it pointless to try and approach the staff about the room and so stayed only one night then moved to another hotel, The Gottica which is near Jaume I. Although the room here was not very much larger, it was bright and cheery. Although more expensive, it was a friendly helpful place and allowed us to have a wonderful holiday in what can only be described as a fabulous city. I have lived, travelled and worked all over the world since 1965. For a European city, this was not acceptable. However, there is an Italian retuarant near the Gottica where the food is really really excellent. Also the meal and Flamenco show at the Cordobra ( I think that's the name, it

The hotel charges $10 per head for the buffet breakfast. They will not remind u that was not included and will bill it to your room. Though there are many things to eat, i do not recommend it, since food is cheap everywhere in barcelona. The hotel charges $3.9 for the use of the safe box, but i definitely recommend u must take one. though i was alerted, I was pickpocketed in the metro station. Actually was robbed, there was a gang of 3-4 people pushed me into the metro train, one of them put his hand into my pocket, grabbed my wallet and flew out of the train when the train doors are closing, i then went to the police station to make a report. all the tourists are pickpocketed and thefted in metro and half of the them in La Rambla outdoor cafes, BE CAREFUL !

The problem with this hotel is that it's very hard to get to if you are on foot. The nearest metro station is Valcarca and from there you have about 500m of hill climbing, which is not really nice if you have big luggage (like we did), or if you come to the hotel after a day of strolling. The rooms are pretty small, and you don't have a minibar. Although it looked pretty old the a/c worked perfectly.

The hotel is a little far from the coastal part of Barcelona. The metro is only a few blocks away, so it solves this problem. The rooms were clean and nice, just a little cramped. The restaurant prices are a little steep, so we found alternatives. For the price we paid, it was definitely worth it.

The air conditioners of this hotel are old and don't work well. We changed the room on 1st floor to another one because the air conditioner is very very noisy. But the room on the 6th floor is stuffy and extremely hot. The staffs are not likely to solve any problem for you. They can't change the room, they can't repair the a/c, they even can't provide a fan. What a nightmare.
United Kingdom, Jul 2006
The hotel looked nice on the outside and was the same as the pictures on the site, but the room we got was very small, it smelled of past odours in the bathroom, I also found a bug in the bathroom, and one of the staff members who i'm sure was the one who checked me in, also questioned me as to whether I had a room in the hotel, the day after I checked in. The positive points, is that it's very close to Parc Guell, it has 2 buses (92, 84(?)) that stopped very close by, and the night bus N4 didn't stop too far either. Also the hotel provided a hot buffet breakfast which wasn't too bad. I would only recommend the hotel for people who will stay for short periods, and not spend alot of time in the hotel. I found it to be overpriced for the facilities they offered.

(G & A) CLEANLINESS WAS AWFUL!! There were locks of hair in the bathroom floor and cockroachs running along the room. They died. When we complained about the fact to the employees at the reception, they didn't feel surprised at all. The surroundings are unlovely. The best service offered was the breakfast (varied and delicious buffet). (G & A)

No parking-possibilitys offered and none around the hotel. 5/8 minutes walk from the metro/sub and from there about 10 minutes to the harbour (or 8 € by Taxi in the night c. o. less traffic). Rooms to the front-side could be very loud if you prefer sleeping with open window. Very expensive internet-access! Not so many (nearly no) restaurants near the hotel. Nice hotel, very close to the metro line, but make sure you know how to get to the hotel before arriving. The name of the road quoted on the confirmation email does exist and is in the same kind of area as the hotel, but for some reason the hotel is not actually located on it. I can't remember the exact road name, but it is something 'Rubens'. I have marked poor for the quietness of the rooms although I'm not sure this is representitive of every room in the Hotel, our room, being on the top floor had considerable drone of plumbing noise which was more than enough to disrupt sleep. Also the bar prices are expensive. If you want a drink go elswhere. I am being rather critical here as my overall impression was good and it was certainly very good value for money.

I had two little problems, one with price bacause I had to pay 7% more for VAT, and the other one with the room that was double TWO beds instead of ONE bed, as quoted. Anyway my general feedback is very good.
