Avinyo hotel providesa perfect base for people looking to explore the city of Barcelona. the hotel is placed just off Las Ramblas - perfectly situated within walking distance of the port, las ramblas and the Placa Catalunya. The streets and squares around the hotel were bustling at night. We got the Aerobus from the airport (5 euro) to the Placa Catalunya and from there it is only a 5 minute walk to the hotel. A taxi from the airport costs just over 30 euros we got one on the way back but I would recommend getting the aerobus. Staff at the hotel were friendly and informative. Although the rooms were not big they were nicely furnished and were very comfortable. We took a 2 day pass for the tourist bus and I thought that was an excellent way to see the city and the staff were helpful. I would defintiely recommend Barcelona as a city break and would recommend the Avinyo as having a perfect location.

The location was great and the room was fine considering you are only two minutes away from the Ramblas, four minutes from the harbour and in walking distance to many beautiful places in the City Center. We would return to this hotel at any time.

This is a great, modern hotel right in the heart of the city - where you want to be. It was very convenient, the staff very helpful, the room edgy but still comfortable and the rooftop pool awesome! I highly recommend this place.

Location was great. Very close to Ramblas and subway, but enough away to feel a little quieter. We nicknamed our room 'the cave' because it stayed so dark and quiet that we overslept the first night. Room was bigger than others I've experienced in europe. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Only negative is the beds were a bit hard and cheap feeling. A double/queen would have been nice instead of 2 twins. Would return if I went to Barcelona again.

Everything okay except the missing windows in most of the rooms an even in the breakfast room. This gives the hotel a very cold atmosphere probably part of the very concept but in hard contrast to Barcelonas latin character.

The hotal is very well located in the historical part of the city. Lovely streets. Hotel employees are very kind and helpful. But the room, aargh ! Decoration is nice, sober and clean. But the room was supertiny, decoration is all ingrey which would be ok if you have at least some natural light. But all the windows are just behind a grid with a 'view' on the inner court that is covered by some sort of dark grey sail. If you want to feel depressed, just stay in your room. I was happy to see that there is a swimming pool. Looks nice on the picture but in reality, it's about 3,5 meter by 2,5 meter. The breakfast room is in the basement, no windows ... But the breakfast itself is really good with a large variety, a good price and a charming employee:-) Entrance hall is rather cool. Wifi works well. Overall : very well situated, superfriendly employees but stay the minimum hours in your room and enjoy this absolutely fabulous city !

The hotel was very clean- however, the rooms had very poor ventilation and windows opened up into an atrium as opposed to outside. With windows open, we would wake up very early each morning by the restaurant preparing breakfast/coffee machines. No carpet in the rooms, floors were cement.

The only thing that is not that satifactory is breakfast was not included and that was not made clear when we checked in. We were not even told when we had breakfast everyday (people might take that for granted that everyone should be aware of that, but we didn't. The fact is breakfast was included for all the hotels we stayed in Italy just before that)

This hotel looks bigger than actually is. the room was very good and staff obliging and courtous. you have your breakfast at the bar area which is just off the reception/lobby area. there can be a lot of noice at night due to fact that the whole lay out is of indoor balcony type, no ceilings so noise carries upwards. The location of the hotel was really excellent and very easy to find. its only a few minutes walk from metro/dart/sub stations. some really nice restaurants/cafes around too. i was solo female traveller and would highly recommend everything. no hassels etc. Very central location, everything within a lovely walking distance.

Hotel Catalonia Avinyo' was a nice hotel for the price. The only true complaint I have was regarding the beds. The beds were extremely hard and very uncomfortable to sleep on. I was actually sore the second morning I woke up. This was my first trip to Barcelona, the hotel was extremely well situated.

The location of the hotel was perfect (old city center) and lobby staff most helpful. The price was by far the best we encountered in that area. However, whoever did the decor (if you can call it that) knew how to create depression in an otherwise upbeat individual. Walls were painted white, and all other "decorations" (basically blown-up black and white photos covering the wall) were grey or black. There was no color anywhere and combined with no natural light from outside, either in public or private rooms, it made for a depressing atmosphere.

We have been 2 nights in the hotel Catalonia Avinyo, and for us was excellent location wise, we were with baby and it was very good acces from the hotel to other parts in barcelona. Nearby super markets and bakery was also very good thing. The rooms are ok, done in modern style and that was what we expected, breakfast wasnt included in the price and we suppose to paid 10.00 EUR p.p , so the only thing what we would mention is exactly that, breakfast suppose to be in the price. Room doors very heavy not easily to go out from the room if u r with baby push chair.

This place is great--clean, modern and right in the middle of everything. We were travelling with another couple--they had a room with a window but we did not. It honestly made no difference. Rooms are small but clean and the price is right for the area. Also, the concierge staff is great and helped us plan a bunch of excursions.

I actually stayed at catalonia port due to problem in the hotel catalonia avinyo. at first i dissapointed because i thought catalonia port would be worse than catalonia avinyo but when we found out that catalonia port was even much better than we ever wished. It is closer to drassannes subway, only 3 minutes walk and the hotel room is just awesome, the best 3 star hotel we got in Europe. I rate it 10! Just perfect.

Map made us believe the Hotel was right off of La Ramblas, but it was actually 2 blocks off on a relatively dark street. Hotel room was a bit small, but overall the Hotel was nice. Compared to other Hotels we stayed at in Spain, I would expect a nicer Hotel for the price we paid (~80Euro)

We had a very nice stay, there. The rooms miss a window indeed, but so do most of the rooms there, explained by the location of the hotel: in the old city area, the buildings are so closed from each other that the aim of a window is, well, diminished... We loved the spa and pool on the rooftop, they're very nice after a long day of sightseeing/walking around. Hint: Ask NOT to have a room on the first floor (ground floor+1), as the corridor is open to the lobby, and when people stay there late at night, it can be very noisy.

It is the second time I stay at this hotel and I love it. It's very basic, but extremely clean and in a great location between Placa Reial and Placa Jaume. The hotel is on a side street, and there is very little car traffic, but quite a bit of foot traffic. Staff is nice and helpful. Room furniture is very modern and basic, but that's a plus in my book. The only issue would be that many of the rooms face the inner atrium, so there isn't a lot of light coming in through the windows. Some rooms on the ground floor have no windows. The upside is that rooms with inner windows are very quiet, whereas the ones with street windows can be noisier.

The single room is very comfortable, not so much space for big luggage. Looks like it's particularly for business person. The receptionist at night was not really good with english, but the one during the day was excellent. The buffet breakfast is very expensive, didnt end up trying them.

As we reserve through internet indirectly, we stayed in room 209 .The room was in the corner and very narrow. The price of this roonm should be less. Location is good. It is better to mention in your request that you want a room with a window on the street side. You can get your Breakfast paying 10 Euro/personne in extra, and it is quite reach proportionnaly to the price.

I went here with my boyfriend for his birthday. Wow! The location is great. So close to just about everything you could need, the metro is not far away, the Ramblas is about 5 minutes walk (and what a nice walk through the easy to get lost in streets of the gothic quarter!), there are excellent restaurants nearby, including a rather good cafe just on the corner of Calle Avinyo. The room was on the third floor facing out onto a very narrow street, and was very quiet. IT was sapce enough for two and had a flatscreen tv in it. The free wirelss internet came in extremely handy. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, and spoke good english. I can see if your room was on the interior of the hotel overlooking the bar, it may get a bit noisy. Do try for a room with an exterior view. I didn't notice any noise at all, not even form the adjacent room. I would definately go back there, and look forward to doing so in the near fututre.

This is a great "home base" for people wanting to explore Barcelona. The rooms are small but if you're out on the town - it doesn't matter. The price is more than fair for the location and comfort of the rooms. I would recommend it for groups wanting a place to sleep while partying in Barcelona!

Nice, modern hotel, great location. Close to everything. Friendly staff and good cleaning. Would have been nice with a coffee maker/ water boiler in the room. The internet connection in the room was sometimes very slow or no connection at all. The pictures of the hotel looked nicer than it really was, but overall a good hotel we would recommend. Good value.

Nice new and trendy hotel on a popular street in the old town. Good price for the area. Nice but somewhat small communal roof terrace. Good size room, nice bathroom. Don't expect much of a view if below floors 5 or 6. Ours was 5 and it was ok. Free internet (but did not work too good in the room (using a mobile phone).

This hotel was ideal for exploring Barcelona, very central to La Rambla and the gothic area of the city. There are also lots of nice restaurants with a stone's throw. The hotel breakfast was good. The little rooftop pool and sunloungers were better than they looked in the photos. The room was very clean, the staff helpful. The only downside was that the beds were very basic and a bit uncomfortable.

Great location, great staff, great hotel. Convenient to almost everything we wanted. Only concern was that the safe in the room was not bolted down and could be stolen (although heavy) with unauthorised entry to the room. We did not try the buffet breakfast as there was an excellent bakery lest then 1 minute walk left of hotel and a supermarket as well as a cafe directly across the hotel on it's very narrow street. We did not compare prices, and although knowing that one can always find a better deal, were happy with what we paid.

Great location in the middle of Barri Gothic. There's a supermarket right accross the street where you can buy relatively inexpensive supplies (bath supplies, fruits, water, wine, etc) which can be really expensive in other stores of the area. Metro station is whithin 2 blocks. Staff is friendly, and there is FREE WI-FI in the hotel and a couple of laptop computers free to use by guests. Our double room was tiny. Otherwise, this hotel is a great deal for the money.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in late March 2008. This hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to the Rambla, the Cathedral and the tourist information centre. A supermarket is just opposite to the hotel. The location for the hotel is excellent but travellers are advised to be extra cautious for pick pocketers and thefts around this area even in day time. The room is newly refurbished and Internet access is free (if you have your own laptop). One minor problem is about the drainage of the shower unit in the bathroom. I have reported the problem to the reception on the 2nd day but the problem has not been fixed during my entire stay. It is also interesting that there is no indication in the room about the number we should dial to contact the front desk and housekeeping. That's why we have to go downstairs everytime to talk to the reception. There are a few notebook computers for use by guests free of charge on the 1st floor. Overall speaking, I'm satisfied with my stay in this hotel.

Have stayed in several hotels in Barcelona - this our best experience - price considered - so far. Less than a minute walking distance to La Rambla. Nice square nearby. Nice rooftop views with little pool + jacuzzi, central location, free internet, tasteful interior - probably one of the best hotels within this price range we've been to in Spain. Due to its central and car-unfriendly location, it is highly recommended to leave the car elsewhere before going to the hotel. Nearest parking we found was 500 mts away and cost €20/night. And it is difficult to find the hotel by car without GPS.
