WE DIDNT HAVE ANY MEAL AT THE HOTEL, BUT WE FOUND A CHEAP PLACE NEXT DOOR. THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD WAS NOT THE BEST BUT WAS NOT BAD EITHER.

Excellent price for a solid 4 star hotel with spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. Very professional staff. Free internet access on lobby computers and with in-room wireless. Location was very good with several excellent, blue guide recommended, restaurants nearby. Right next door to the metro and an easy walk to Las Ramblas/port area. Only (minor) issues were; some noise from the street outside (inevitable but very light sleepers should note); the pool/fitness area is tiny so don't expect to get a workout in; in-room wireless internet was erratic. Over all, given the low price, excellent value and highly recommended.

The hotel was an excellent value! The room/hotel was extrememly clean. The hotel buffet rather pricey was really good. I only did it one day out of the trip. The only issue with the hotel was the walls were thin. So if someone was rather loud close to you it sounded like they were in your room! I would stay at the hotel again.

Great hotel, centrally located, excellent service, fabulous roof top views and pool, clean, bright and spacious rooms

Nice clean modern decor rooms, reasonable size for Europe (though would be considered small for North America). Convenient for Metro, but on a very noisy street, with ambulance sirens constantly audible through closed windows. Very few restaurants in vicinity, just small cafes & bars. Hotel restaurant poor and overpriced. If you don't have to dine here, the rooms are fine, clean, well serviced, nice pool on the roof.

A great location just 5 mins walk from Las Ramblas. Very easy and cheap to travel from airport to hotel on the train. Buy a ticket with 10 rides for 7.20 Euros. Only 1 ticket required for airport to hotel journey. There were a couple of restaurants immediately outside the hotel offering breakfast for 4.5Euros. The hotel breakfast is 14Euros but we didn't eat there. The roof terrace pool is small but perfectly adequate. It was great to cool off and relax after a day's sightseeing. Pool towels and deckchairs available free. The free internet on 9th floor was great to keep in touch with family and also check out transport to Montserrat. If you have time Montserrat is a great day out. Go early as there are some great mountain walks. Barcelona was amazing and has something for everyone. We stayed 5 full days and managed to visit all the major sights. Many Gaudi buildings were open until 8pm giving lots of time to fit everything in. It seemed quite expensive eating and drinking on Las Ramblas as a surcharge is added to eat outside however there are more reasonable restaurants in other areas. Sitting having a drink on Las Ramblas enables you to take in the street entertainment which is very funny.

Having stayed at the hotel before this visit was very disappointing. Our initial welcome from the reception staff was not very friendly. We were given a room with twin beds when we had asked for a double. the room was at the back of the hotel with no window to the outside. It felt very small and dark. we paid the same price or more than we did previously for a larger double room at the front of the hotel with a big window. this does not seem equitable.

Contemporary interior design and fittings; competent and pleasant staff; restaurant provided good meal and good value; maybe bit of noise from adjacent rooms (toilets);. Location is handy to the port, an interesting 20-minute walk through the old town to main shopping area, and close to a "hop-on/hop-off" bus tour of Barcelona. Would recommend and would definitely stay there again.

Very poor service, the girl on the desk was extremely rude. The only people we found nice were the doormen and the girl in the restaurant.Location was very seedy and run down around the hotel.Noise was unbelievably loud,on a very busy street so constant ambulance and police sirens all night if your at the front. If your at the back of the hotel your overlooking really run down flats which are also really noisy. Also the staff start cleaning at about 9 in the morning and weren't a bit shy about whacking the hoover against every wall and door.Definitely would not recommend, gave a very poor impression of Barcelona.

The Hotel was well located, clean and very modern. However, during the morning, when they start cleaning the rooms (7am) you cannot sleep anymore... The room we got was very small and compacted with no windows to an open space, meaning that quality vs. price relation was not the best.

hotel is very central, short walk to la rambla, very close to port & good shopping centre, very clean, comfortable, rooms lovely, right at metro stop paral.lel, can get cheaper breakfast few doors up. the staff were friendly- except one man on reception desk who was ignorant, rude and unhelpful... but would definately recommend hotel and go back!

I stayed in Barcelona 3 days. The main advantage of this hotel is its location, in the city centre, just next to metro station.

Very good position. "Paralel" metro station just in fron of the hotel. Direct trains to Rambla, Catalunya and Sagrada Familia with line L2/L3. You can also reach La Rambla by foot in 10/15 min but by midnight metro looked safer. There are some coffee shops a few meters from the hotel where you can have breakfast (not included in room rate).

However no where on the website or your advertisments did it say the pool closes in winter i paid extra for this hotel for the facilties of a pool which was closed. also the room we were place in was on the front of the hotel which is on a main road and very noisey hardly slept all weekend

My husband and I booked a standard room. When we arrived to check it, the woman at the front desk said that the suite was available and upgraded us on the spot for the same price as a standard room!! It was a really nice treat! The hotel was clean, quite and seemed brand new. The people at the front desky were very helpful at recommending restuarants and places to see. Our only complaint was that the bed was really hard. The location was fine, just a very short walk from anywhere that you would want to be and a few steps away from the metro; though I highly recommend renting a scooter!!!

I booked a room from France for 3 nights with one friend and finally we stayed 7 nights!! It's an excellent hotel, perfectly situated, very clean, and really welcoming. People in the hotel maked our stay really confortable. It's not expensive at all for that kind of hotel. I suggest everybody to go there!

Very nice Hotel, reasonably located (less than 10 mins from La Ramblas & the Marina. Our room was great (located at the end of a corridor and was bigger than the norm) Very large with hugh bathroom (bath & seperate shower). We were looking out over the main street with hardly any noise (we were near the top floor) There is a pool on the roof (although was too cold when we were there). There is a Metro stop close to the Hotel which is quite handy. We didn't avail of the breakfast while we were there, so cannot comment.

The hotel was modern and the room very nice. However, it was on a very busy street and despite having the windows closed, I was unable to sleep at night due to the noise of the vehicles passing the hotel at high speeds. Also, at night walking back from Las Ramblas, you had to walk through a dodgy area. We did not feel safe so we took the metro to the hotel, despite being a short walk. Would not recommend this hotel to light sleepers or those who enjoy walking.

The hotel is ideally placed for exploring Barcelona, I have visited Barcelona many times and would certainly use this hotel again. You can access the Metro/Tube from outside the hotel or you can walk to the La Rambla in under 5 minutes. The room was a good sized twin and the bathroom was clean and again a good size. I stayed in a room at the front of the hotel and was not affected by any noise from traffic etc. The staff were polite and courteous, and dealt with any queries in a professional manner.

good hotel, room was nice and clean. staff very helpful. Perfect position (5mt from metro station). our room had the windows on Avenida Parallel and as a consequence of this it was a bit noisy. Didn't have breakfast in the hotel as suggested by other customer on this site. Finally it was a very good choice. Ps.take really care of your belongings in Barcelona, robbers are very skilled...unfortunately :-(

Great location, 10 minutes walk to the Ramblas. Room was nice, spacious, clean and very quiet - big plus for being in a city that does not sleep at all! Excellent bathroom! Nice touch - plenty of useful info on Barcelona available in the room. We didn't take the breakfast, as there were coffee-shops just next door to the hotel. We'll definitely stay there again next time in Barcelona!

This was a very good hotel. It was not cheap, but it made the stay in Barcelona very enjoyable. I would stay with them again. The breakfast is not worth the 13 Euro. Look for a cheaper breakfast in the city if you are hungry. Not worth the money for what you get, but the hotel itself is worth using again. It was very clean and new. The staff was friendly and helpful.

An clean, modern and comforatble hotel close to the Metro (just at the door) and within walking distance (5 minutes) of La ramblas area. Did not eat there, the coice outside of the hotel doors is so great why would you. Free internet connection a big advantage if you travel for business or have your own laptop along. All hotels should offer this. Well worth the extra money.

Had a most enjoyable stay at this hotel. We were allocated a superior room which was spacious and well furnished. Were also given a welcoming bottle of Cava as it was our anniversary - very thoughtful. As it was on a main thoroughfare the front bedrooms were somewhat noisy - but one has to expect that in a large, busy city. Pool area small but good to have such an area in the centre of the city when the weather is hot. Would return to this hotel.

Quality place, friendly helpful staff and very clean rooms. Ideal for a short stay. One minor quibble was the location - quite near Las Ramblas but also near one or two streets that were a bit dodgy and you may want to avoid! Stick to the main roads and it's ideal for the price. Look out for the muggers and pickpockets near Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter folks...

We were pleased with our stay at the Universal. However, we felt that the breakfast service was terrible. On our last morning, we were repeatledly ignored by the staff and had to keep asking for a hot drink. As the breakfast was not included in the price, we felt that this was very poor. The rooms were adequate, but there were insufficient toiletry products for two people. The reception staff were however very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There needs to be more chairs and sunbeds available on the rooftop deck - we found it very cramped and could not all sit down together. We found the restaurant meal on the first night good overall and excellent value. Some of the food was not very hot, but it was tasty and the service excellent. Thank you for accommodating us.

Date 6th Feb 2004... We turned up at the hotel and supplied them with a copy of the booking form and price. They didnt appear to be expecting us and look puzzled by the booking form, never the less ten minutes later they found us some rooms. When we departed the hotel the cost of the rooms were slightly more then on the booking form, but to save any confusion and hassle we just paid what they asked. After the initial confusion we found the hotel to our satisfaction and all the staff were very freindly and all too keen to help.

We thought the hotel room was very good, in particular the nice bathroom and the very quiet air conditioning. The only downside was the room fronted one of the busiest roads in Barcelona and there was a lot of traffic noise. A room to the rear of the hotel might have been better. The location, although not the most attractive in Barcelona, was convenient.

It is located next to the underground station of "Parallel" between "plaza Espana, Ramblas and Montjuic". If you arrive by a Ryanair flight landing at Gerona you will note how easy is reaching the hotel, indeed the bus station from Gerona (Plaza Tetuan) is four underground stop far. The hotel is clean and elegant. Regards

Very nice, brand new hotel. Very modern facilities and interior design. On the expensive side, but well worth it. Our only disappointment -- a big one -- was that in spite of our confirmed reservation they did not have a room for us when we arrived (because a group had decided to prolong their stay another day), so we had to spend our first night in another hotel across the street! They were most apologetic, helpful in making the arrangement and gave us a little break on the rate, but still, this should not have happened. Also, one should be aware that the hotel is not in the best area of town (it is surrounded by rather unsafe little streets). But the avenue on which it is located is fine and public transportation (bus and subway) is right at the door and very convenient.
