I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The main goal was to have a sibgle room for a low price. Well,i got that. The room was very small with a double bed in it which took away the 90% of the space. If you need only a bed for the night it's ok, but don't travel with large luggages if you don't want to fall over them time to time. :)

It was very easy to find the location and even though we arrived late in Barcelona we had no problem checking-in, the hotel room was rather small but comfortable enough and the price was just right,it was very clean, every day clean towels and clean room, the area around had some noise but living in a big city like that is usually like this, had no problem sleeping, thank you!

This hotel is a great value for the price. I will stay here again. The area is a few hundred metres away from La Rambla, and near Liceu metro station. Yes, it is located in the red light district, but no one bothered us. The prostitutes are mainly soliciting around the corner and down the street, not directly in front of the building. There were police officers patrolling the area and that made it feel safer. The rooms were very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. I was expecting much less for what I paid.

This was our first trip to Barcelona and I would return again but NOT to this hotel, the windows didn't close properly there was constant heavy traffic at night outside, we got very little sleep. The beds were basic, shower was a hose from the celing with a garden rose on the end, the good side of this was we saw more of the city as we didn't want to return to the hotel. The staff, like the Barcelonians, were polite & competent but not overly friendly.

The location is very close to la rambla and staff were very helpful that is all i can say. rooms are tiny beds are hard and noise is horrific listening to prostitutes and drunks all night long this is slap bang in the middle of the red light area and can feel a little daunting.

I didn't stay in Barbara because apparently my room was flooded. So they send me to this horrible Hotel called Ronda 10mins away. It was the worst hotel i stayed in. The front of the house staff were very rude, very unhelpful, incompetent, I think they are Filipinos. The hotel rules having no visitors are really awful, its not a 3 star standard. I will tell everyone I know about this hotel. I work in the hospitality industry and i travel a lot.

The Hotel is in a good position (100 meters from the Rambla), the staff is helpful and the rooms are confortable and clean... But the surroundings are not so beautiful (there is a lot of prostitution, also during the morning)... Anyway is a very good Hotel if you want to visit Barcelona without spending too much money!

The room is quiet small but it's normal for the price (60 euros) There is even a real climatisation which allow to close the window during the night to avoid the noise. Le location is wonderfull : you can reach the main road in 5mn by walk. The hotel is just next to a place of prostitution, but it's very calm and secure. If I had to come back in Barcelona, sure I'll take the same one.

The location of the hotel is very inconvinient (for women or single couples or persons), it is situated two hundred meters from the mayor street LA RAMBLA-but in a street full of prostitutes and burglars!!!! When you pass these two hundred meters is another world... but you have to be very careful when returning to the hotel at night. According to the receptionist, the police is always there but I never saw a policeman!!!! My opinion, do not book this hotel!!! The enviroment is terrible!!!!

We were assigned a ground floor double that was very noisy, because of drilling on the other side of the wall and a loud fan in the sleeping area. Asked for a quieter room and received one on the fifth floor that was very quiet. So service was great. Also appreciated being able to leave our luggage in a secure area at the hotel. Only issue was that the area didn't seem too safe. We didn't mind the "ladies of the night," but did feel uneasy given crime reported in the neighborhood by a bar and restaurant nearby. Hotel was VERY secure; it was walking from there to the Rambla etc. that seemed tricky. BTW, nonviolent street crime is epidemic in Barcelona. We were robbed twice, and we are seasoned travelers.

We stayed for 2 nights. The rooms were very clean and employees welcoming and nice. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the Ramblas and the fantastic la Boqueria market (and its public car park nearby). We couldn't sleep for the first night because of the noise on the street but I guess you are not supposed to sleep in Barcelona. The surroundings look quite shabby with prostitutes all day long just 10 meters away from the entrance. But we were 4 young women and we never felt threatened even coming back late at night.

GO AWAY. Well...the main question is : is this hotel used to be a Lupanar ? I don't ask this because of the prostitutes surrounding it (it is quite normal in this area, and actually absolutely not disturbing), but the deco of the rooms...waouh...sleeping under a giant pink shell is...an experience. But anyway this is not the important point. WE HAVE BEEN WAKED UP AT SEVEN IN THE MORNING BY HEAVY WORKS IN THE BUILDING. AND ANYWAY WITHOUT WORKS walls of this place are paper-made : actually you are sleeping in a train station central hall. We have been there because of a hurry, and except this reason i'd advice to avoid it.

This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. In addition it costs more than the Hilton in London. An open air brothel roams the pavement directly outside the hotel where you have to run the gauntlet of pimps and prostitutes. As a result there is an almost constant police presence.

The hotel is located in a very central position in Barcelona, right on the Ramblas, near the beach... the street is a little strange, with some "girls" offering their services... but we ended up counting that as another picturesque feature... and after all, their business did not affect us at all. 100 points to Isabel, the front desk girl. Very helpful and pleased to help. Bad things: no internet and poor breakfast. At 5.00 they could offer something better. Another surprise - this is related to VENERE : although the reservation confirmation said that the credit card was intended only to guarantee the reservation, I was surprised to have most of the hotels deducting the first night from my CC before my arrival. No problem with that, but it should be clearly informed UPON RESERVATION.

The cleaning staff was great but the am clerks were rude. The internet ad stated that breakfast was included in the price but it was not. When shown the ad, the staff simply said that the ad was wrong, made no apologies, and made it sound that the guest was wrong for bringing the subject up. And this was true of many of the guests that complained of the same.

The hotel is perfect for single/small groups of travellers who spend their time exploring Barcelona, rather than staying in the hotel. Excellent location (two minutes' walk away from Las Ramblas), however, it was quite scary walking through the red light district to get back to the room! Would have preferred a door/curtain on the shower, because my friend had to sit round the corner of the room near the door when I wanted a shower! I would not recommend this hotel for families due to the size of the room and its location in the red light district.

We were looking for a cheap hotel in the central of Barcelona. That was exactly what we got. Being a former Barcelona residence I new that El Raval was not the safest and prettiest area in Barcelona, however the hotel location was not the worst I have seen. Although I would not recommend it for families with children, as it seemed to be close to the local red light districts. We had a good stay and the hotel employees were great.

Location is very good, if you can look through the more suspect activities on the streets at all time of day\night. Don't get a room at the back! Looking in to a narrow shaft, no air, no view, worst room ever. Second night I got a room with view of the plaza, much better. Noisy hotel.

The hotel is very close to Los Ramblas and within easy walking distance to most of Barcelonas attractions. The only problem we had was that there is a pub/sport bar on the corner opposite and Barcelona was playing Madrid so it was extremely noisy all night. There are also a lot of ´sex workers´around the corner but they didnt bother us.

The rooms were very minimal, stuffy and loud. We could hear water running and toilets flushing all night long. There was also very loud construction noise starting every morning and going all day long (no siestas here!) The hotel is close to a good area, but is situated on a side street that is very seedy, especially at night. There are literally prositutes standing within 10 feet of the entrance! The only redeaming quality of this hotel is the very friendly, helpful staff. For the money, look elsewhere.

I spent a long weekend in Barcelona with my boyfriend. The locatyion on hotel Barbara is excellent, a few hundred meters on La Rambla and the old town. A quite noisy area, so I don`t recommend for light sleepers. Also, I wouldn`t walk alone at night time, because the streets are quite narrow, dark and busy (espacially at night time!) Otherwise, a very nice hotel with friendly staff! The rooms are very simple but spacy and clean. I would have enjoyed better bathroom equipments. But a nice hotel with a very reasonable price!

This was a budget hotel but the staff would not even when asked provide a plug for the bath - the shower was unusable and they would not give me a cup/glass so I could take some tablets.

The hotel is just in the center of Barcelona, it's very near to the Rambla and to the interesting points, you can reach them by feet...There's a lot of prostitues near the hotel, also in the day time, but it isn't a problem if you don't have children, they don't disturb you: you know, it's more often to be disturbed by the Rambla's black prostitutes after midnight, if you are boys or men walking alone.

The hotel was surrounded by hookers!! I definately would not stay here again. I was here with my family so it was really not a good decision. Also, the hotel docked my credit card before my arrival even though venere.com says that's not the policy. AND, the map for this hotel provided on venere.com was just indecipherable. The place is definitely walking distance from spain's main tourist artery the La Rambla, very accessible (by foot) to major tourist spots. The English-speaking staff, their warm welcome and efficiency more than make up for the sometimes rowdy crowd that gather in the neighborhood at night. Ideal place for first timers who need a good bed, a hot shower, lots of tips and valuable information on places to go to(from the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable english-speaking staff)and accessibility to prime hot spots. just 9 euros by nice mercedes benz taxi for 3 people with baggages from the train (franca). very good value for money.

Having read the previous reviews for the hotel, I didn't expect this!!! the first night we spend it in a room facing the road..What a night!!! Trust me the noise coming from the rubish collectors and jet washing the road below is so much that you want to scream The next day, the hotel manager was kind enough to change us room and we start enjoying our stay. There were lots of prostitutes at the road parallel to our hotel but we didn't have any problem and we felt safe as policemen was always there!! Basically the hotel is really close to La Rambla and in a very convienient spot.

On the weekend we were in Barcelona there was a construction convention in town. Hotel rooms were scarce and the hotels were price gouging. We stayed 4 days (2 Weekend days @ 196 Euros and 2 week days @ 92 Euros). We were required to pay for all 4 days upon arrival so we were locked in to the Hotel Barbara for our entire stay or loose the room for the weekend days. Welcoming was very bad: the receptionist wanted we payed immediately for all our stay! We felt like delinquents. The room for three people was very small. Before to go to bed we had to put our luggage on the ground. The room was very noisy. In front of the hotel there is a place full of prostitutes with their clients (this isn't dangerous because the police is often present and so there is no safety issue). It is located near the Ciutat Vella, the Ramblas, the Barri Gòtic and placa de Catalunya. The hotel is only e feew minutes from Metro.

Neighbourhood of the hotel was restless with numerous prostitutes operating in the immediate vicinity. Bathroom open to the bedroom with only one narrow piece of glass protecting from splashing of water during showering. Thus water tended to spray all over and even on the bed. Toilet was so small that a male of my height (180 cm) is not able to sit on the toilet seat except in a very uncomfortable position.

Consigliato ++++

It was a nice hotel, with nices workers, except the location near a prostitution place. But there are no risk, the police is omnipresent in the street.

The hotel is clean and very close to La Rambla. The map provided did not help us. We had to ask heaps of people where to go before we actually found the place. Also, the street the hotel is on has alot of Pro's - if you get what i mean (The front glass doors to the hotel are ALWAYS locked and you need to be buzzed in) So i dont recommend this hotels for families. Possibly for groups of people. The hotel is also close to the market where you can get some great food and fresh fruit and vegies. The breakfast is also quite nice.

Despite the fact of a 1-star-hotel, not a single chair or table or some furniture in the room, nothing ... and 80 € per night.

I think the room is really nice. I especially like the bathroom. It is very big and spacious. The location is a little bit far from "La Rambla" street(7min walk) but the room is just excellent.

The cleanliness of the room and the professionalism of the employees are acceptable, but the spaciouness of the room was very limited and sorroundings of the hotel have to be considered marginal during the night time.

Very basic but very clean accomodation with excellent location (200 metres off Ramblas).Welcome and general atmosphere was very warm and friendly with Jordi on reception an absolute gem. Ask Jordi anything and you get helpful and well informed advice. Breakfast was an unexpected bonus consisting of Juice/Pastries and Coffee. The girls working outside do not intrude and there is a safe feel to the area .Would stay there again. The only concern in recommending is that it is basic accomodation.

I don't write very well in english... The welcoming about teh employe work in the evening is horrible!! The guy hasn't education. It's the worst welcoming i never see in my life!! In your website you says, you need the credit card number just for make the booking but it's not true because when i arrived at the hotel the guy says i must stay in the hotel because i've paid my room with my credit card!! I only stay in this hotel for this reason. I don't write in the claims and complaint book because i don't have any time for this. You don't spcify if there or not is a parking in the hotel.

This hotel met my requirements after getting over the initial hurdle of getting a room next tot he lift which sounded like an aeroplane taking off everytime it was used(day and night)the staff were so helpful and professional. the rooms were a bit on the small side and the tv was obviously not meant to be used by small folk like me 5' 7" as it was put up as high as the stand would go on the wall and does not come with a remote, so be warned all you little folk out there...lol The showers are not all that powerful and in the first room i did get a good laugh out of the way it was placed in the ceiling and the splashguard glass wason the opposite side of the bath, but that didnt really matter as it was only a trickle anyway It was rather intimidating at times outside the front of the hotel as it is indeed the red light district of the area and the girls are not afraid to get overly friendly with passers by. All in all a good hotel for the rate and the grading and if you plan not to spend a lot of time in the hotel its the bizz......

This hotel was such a letdown,we thought because off where it was situated(red light area )it would be noisy but there was more noise at night in the hotel.Toilets where broke and staff un helpful we plan to return to Barcelona early next year but will surely avoid this nightmare of a hotel

The only complaint that I had about this Hotel was the location. I wouldn´t have minded going with a man, but it being just me and my friend, we were sometimes mistaken for prostitutes, which made us less enthusiastic to go out at night. So, if you are with people you feel safe with, this place is no problem. But, if you might be putting yourself in a vulnerable position, don´t go.
