the hotel in actual fact is pretty run down with the wooden flooring slightly pop up, ceiling shipped, haridryer cant use at all as it is all smelly, dressing table and tv with glasses super dusty with layers of dust. the only thing i like about this room is the balcony. there is a bellman who is super friendly and helpful. the rest of the front desk staff are not very friendly, at times i can even felt the arrogance in them.

very nice hotel in a good location. Rooms are quite small but very clean and nice. The room was not that quiet because the window was on a road with a lot of traffic in the morning. In general a good hotel. To recommend.

We stayed 6 nights at Balmes. The room offerred was actually a mini-suite in the area of the pool in the back of the hotel. The window was actually on the pool patio and the lights were opened all night long. It was a bit noisy at night but nothing dramatic. Staff was responsive to our requests, but just at the limit, meaning not very warm. The hotel location is just perfect, on a quiet street. Easy to walk to main tourist attractions.

An excellent hotel. Near of the center of Barcelona (15 minutes of the Ramblas and Place of Cataluña) and very good comunications: The subway is only at 5 minutes, just like de bus. Very clean and the quality of service is very good.

My whole trip was superb. Barcelona is a historic place and I love arts and history. The conference I attended was mind enriching and the people I met were so warm. However, probably because of lack of fluidity in the language / english communication became a barrier in my expression of what i need. Unlike other hotels around the world where i have been to, hotel personnel should be ready in any conversation / request / openness. A good customer service must be upgraded through practice. But my overall stay was meaningful. Thank you to Paco, the night bell boy with long hair (i forgot his name), Amadeo (i think) the one who lent me several phone chargers, he really took time and went out of his way to do this extra service. Communication is important, hence it would be great if all hotel personnel will be trained to speak in the english language well enough where the customers / business communication means would be best understood. Good luck to you all...

Bedroom: Nice room, Bed a bit short (Im 6'1 and my feet were sticking out over the end!) but comfortable, Bathroom OK, Air Conditioning TERRIBLE - kept the room at a bearable temperatiure but not cool enough. A very dated air con system. Staff: The main guy on reception (a middle aged man) is easily the most ignorant man I have ever encountered on a hotel reception. He grunted his way through our check in withour so much as an "enjoy your stay". Any time we walked past to exit thehotel he didnt so much as acknowledge us. On checking out again he grunted his way through it - unbelievable that this man works on a hotel front desk. The younger guys were quite helpful and pleasant but this guy really set the tone - in a bad way. The housekeeping staff DID NOT once wash any glasses we used from the bathroom or bed area - this was totally unacceptable. They also did not top up the shower gel, shampoo etc in the bathroom. Very poor service.

Hotel is ideal for the price and location. Rooms are not massive but adequate for 2 people and the shower is fantastic. Rooms are def not soundproofed... you can hear next door open the shower curtain :-) but it won't put me off staying there again. It's no more than a 10 min walk to the Rambla's and the Plaza de Catalunya. There are so many lovely cafe's on the way though, it always took us longer!!! :-) Less than a 5 min walk to the nearest underground, which is clean and safe. For an authentic restaurant, go to Caracoles restaurant just off the ramblas at the opposite end to the Plaza de Catalunya.

Un bueno hotel, funcional, muy bien ubicado, limpio... pelo la habitación que estuve és muy, muy pequeña... claustrofobica! Mismo tenido solicitado antes por una habitación "la más grande posible" en la reserva... Los precios un poco caros.

Very efficient and pleasant accomodations with many international visitors. Having a few more English speaking people on staff would have been helpful but 2 in our group were fluent and did much of the interactions. We would recommend and return to this facility.

The soundproofing between the rooms is nearly non-existent. One could constantly hear people walking, toilets flushing etc. Otherwise, OK. Location good and reasonable value for price, although we were charged 25 Euros extra for a room at the back, just to have the quiet that you should expect anyway.

Overall, a very good pick. It's not a romantic one but it is very well located, has some very good places around it (from Gaudi to local cerveserias). One thing that bothered me is that one of the guys in the reception gave me wrong information about train stations in Barcelone. It caused me to miss my train and a 7 hours overall delay. If you don't know something - don't say. TIP: Don't get the breakfast. At this price you can get a lot better just down the street at the near cerveseria.
