Hotel Advance - Barcelona

The Hotel Advance was really nice looking. We were stunned at the modern, sleek lobby. We arrived early, before 10 am, and we could not check in until 1 pm, so they let us store our luggage in a room in the back of the hotel. We left for some sightseeing and returned about 2. The room was as sleek as the lobby. The bathroom was very modern. The room size was good. The bed was hard. But this was the noisiest hotel I have ever visited. It is on a fairly busy street, so there was street noise with the window open (they seemed to pick up trash 8 or 10 times through the night), but the worst noise was from the cough of the person in the next room. Then there was some sort of pressurized mechanical activity in the hallway from about 7 am on... The place looked great, but it was miserable.

The hotel is totally renovated and it's in a strategic position, in the middle of everything. Rooms are new and clean, in a nice modern style. People working there are very nice.

Very pleasant and welcoming stay. Location is ideal, free of noise and crowds yet within walking distance of major attractions and transport facilities. Staff courteous and helpful and we were grateful for their fluent English.

I thought this hotel was cool and in a brilliant area however it's nothing out of the ordinary in that it is your standard boutique hotel ie lots of browns and creams and dark wood. I marked down the service in the hotel because the cleaners were pretty poor. One day they only made the bed and changed the towels - they didn't change dirty glasses or wipe up the side tables (in fact, as I recall, they never did this!) and for a 4*hotel I would have expected more. On another day we also found a half drunk bottle of cava in our mini bar and as none of us drink cava we were a bit suspicious how it got opened and drunk. However, we took it down to reception and we wern't charged for it when we left. There also isn't a proper bar in the hotel. That isn't a huge problem as there is a bar on every corner in Barcelona but it's a nice touch to have. All those things being said, the hotel was very nice but being a regular visitor to Barcelona, I probably won't stay there again but I would recommend it to others.
