This is a reasonable hotel for a reasonable price, breakfast was a bit sub-par for the price but ok. It feels as if it was designed for business travel in the 80's and the rooms haven't been updated since. The air-con was aged and useless. The whole place could do with a make-over including the guy on reception when we arrived, other staff were nice and friendly. The facilities are all there it's just a bit lacklustre. We booked here because we wanted easy access to the train station and it's perfect for that. The local area is fine, modernish and unthreatening, the old town is only 10-15 minutes walk away and is beautiful. The locals use the hotel bar as, well, a local bar which we quite liked. If you plan to use Avila as a base for other towns then this is worth considering, if you want something more elegant or attractive, head up to the Centro Storico.
