Hotel Palacio de los Velada - Ávila

We had a free upgrade to a premium room - very impressive as Avila was mid festival. We could not use the garage due to the town being closed for a medieval fair. The staff were most helpful. The public rooms are great (especially the gin club - best G&T ever. Superb value. Higly rated.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights. Air conditioned courtyard is just as lovely as web site photo. We lucked out to arrive as holiday mass and marching bands, dressed up children and beautiful organ music at Cathedral across the street. Very good breakfast buffet. Inexpensive parking on street just outside city wall, not far. Room reasonable size. A/C in room worked but not quite as cool as we like for sleeping.

This was a first trip to Avila and the prospect of a pleasant stay was heightened by the sight of sunlight on those ancient walls and towers. The warm rustic charm of a sandstone coloured exterior soon gave way to the starkness of the town within. Parking is almost impossible although the hotel has an adequate (if very expensive) car park beneath. There was no offer of help with our baggage, although we are elderly, as all staff seemed to be involved in a huge confirmation party. The hotel is undoubtedly beautiful, particularly the enormous central courtyard atrium. Our room (229), whilst clean and well appointed, had a tiny window at floor level and looked out onto a derelict building with lots of pigeon mess. We had been driving for some 8 hours and needed a good meal and an early night. The restaurant was not open and there was no food available for residents. Outside restaurants either do not open on Sundays or open at 9 - 9.30pm. The hotel could not advise us of anywhere we might eat earlier, but the hotel across the square was more obliging. Our advice would be to go to Avila and enjoy the town and it's history, but don't expect much on Sunday evenings and, in truth, walk through and admire this hotel and then go and stay at the Parador.

We were amazed at the quality and beauty of this hotel. First of all, the Palacio de los Velada has hosted many kings of Spain through its history. The Palacio was completely gone to ruins, as many old buildings, but it was gloriously renovated to its original beauty. The location is great, right in the middle of town, by the Cathedral. The rooms in the hotel are huge as are the bathrooms. There is a wonderful courtyard in the middle of the hotel where you can sit down and have a drink or coffee, read a book and watch people. There are also several restaurants with wonderful Spanish food. Los Velada was the best hotel we have ever stayed in Spain.

Attractive and spacious covered central courtyard with piano playing in evening..Food good.Our room at the back was noisy.Cathedral bells rang every hour.Internal and external sound proofing poor.

BEAUTIFUL HOTEL IN THE CENTRE OF AVILA, in front of the cathedral. WONDERFUL BREAKFAST. GOOD PARKING SERVICE. THE AIR CONDITIONED DOESN'T WALK VERY WELL. THE ROOM WAS WARM. Bellissimo hotel nel pieno centro di Avila, proprio davanti alla cattedrale. Ottimo servizio di parcheggio. Colazione fantastica in una fantastica sala. Putroppo l'aria condizionata in camera, pur funzionando, non raffreddava molto. Forse l'impianto era un po' vecchio. Fortunatamente Avila non è una città caldissima.

Excellent hotel in an excellent location. The only negative - light smell of carpets (does not disturb if window open).Two days in a standard double room.

The location of the hotel is perfect, within the walls, at the Plaza, across from the Cathedral. The hotel is a lovely historic building and our room was excellent. The central courtyard serves as the cafe and is a wonderful place for wine and a tapa - elegent and with warm service. I would most definitely recommend the Palacio de los Veladas. Parking can be tight - we wished that we had known that it is OK to park right in the Plaza in front of the Cathedral for as long as it takes to check in to the hotel and get the garage door opened. The roads in town are one way and tiny, so if you have to go around, it's hard to really get lost. Lovely stay.

This was the most beautiful hotel that we stayed at. It is just inside the walls and across from the Cathedral. We would recommend it to everyone.

Staying at this hotel is an opportunity to enjoy luxury in a historical space. Our room was very large, included a lovely bathroom and large closet. The room had air conditioning but they did not have it on during shoulder season (May). This was a considerable problem since it was otherwise rather warm. The room had a skylight that opened, but air circulation was very limited even with it open. Front desk staff had no personality, no interest in chatting or being friendly. It was very quiet at the hotel during our stay, and we were all alone in the lovely courtyard for a drink before dinner. Serving staff was gracious and efficient, but spoke little English. Our Spanish is adequate, and fortunately we managed to get our wishes across. You can't beat the location, right across from the Cathedral. The cost for parking in the hotel garage is high, around 16 Euros. We parked on the road outside the city walls, a ten minute walk. During busy season, you might have to consider parking in the hotel garage, as parking spaces outside would be in short supply, and driving inside the old city to unload baggage could be challenging.

No CNN even though offered - no reception?? Waiters speak no English - felt at times as only being tolerated as non Spanish speaker.

L'albergo si trova accanto alla cattedrale e questo è sicuramente un punto a favore. Non è consigliabile sceglierlo se si arriva in macchina(il parcheggio dell'albergo è veramente caro). L'ambiente del patio interno è suggestivo ma le quattro stelle si riferiranno all'ubicazione, visto che la nostra camera era nel sotto tetto e neanche troppo pulita....La colazione niente di eccezionale.

I think the hotel reserve to Venere, in this case to me, the worst room available, facing the inner court with the rubbish depot, at 4.00 am, so in the middle of the saturday night, four five people coming to take away all the rubbish trolley can (7-8), overthrow it in they truck, making a lot of noisy and bed smell.....and we couldn't close the windows because the airconditioning system wasn't working.
