I stayed at the Hotel Saint Roch for one night as I was en route to Paris. The hotel was conveniently located near the bus station (Gare Routiere), the local SNCF railway station and the bus (or navette) stop for the shuttle service to the TGV railway station. The breakfast provided by the hotel for an additional price of 7.5 Euros was quite good. In the room in which I stayed, the globe in the ceiling light for the bathroom was not working and the switch for the bedside lamp was broken and consequently did not work properly. The globes provided in the lights were of such low wattage that it was all but impossible to read at night. With a little extra attention to such details, this hotel could easily improve its standards.

Hotel Saint Roch is the worst hotel that i have even stayed in Europe. The staff is so unfriendly, room so small, the location is so far away from the city centre etc.... it does not worth any cents that we have paid for our stayed in this hotel. will not recommend anybody to stay here in Hotel Saint Roch. i will never return to this property again. And i really hope people will stay away from this hotel to avoid unpleasant experience.

St. Roch was nice. We chose to not eat breakfast in the garden, but we ate our own granola bars and cereal in the garden and were able to enjoy it just as much! The beds are low to the ground, but they were clean and a cleaning I felt safe here and it is really close to the city wall. Great option for staying in Saint Roch!

The place had a lovely garden and looked nice from the back. The location was convenient, and air conditioning was ok and very welcome. But generally it was kind of smelly - not terrible smells, just old food smells or something, though there was lots of cleaning going on and the place seemed clean. Breakfast was dull and expensive for what was offered, I've never seen such small croissants! The doorknobs were loose making you wonder if your door was actually locked. But the biggest problem was the noise. The walls are paper thin so everyone who came in after we did woke us even though they were not raucous people.

This was by far the least expensive hotel we stayed in during our trip to France, so for what we paid it was definitely a good value. The bed was curiously low to the floor and the mattress a little on the thin side, but overall the room was clean and comfortable. We liked having our own little balcony with a couple of chairs overlooking the hotel's quite charming courtyard garden (most rooms didn't have this - lucky us). The bathroom was very comfortable but smelled a bit of sewer gas, possibly because we had to remove the sink plug to get the sink to drain and left it off for the duration of our stay. The sink faucet was too short and poured as much onto the edge of the sink as into the sink itself. The WiFi internet connection was difficult to get connected to, and utterly dismal every night (one night we couldn't get it to work at all), but was suddenly perfect the last morning of our stay. The hotel is an easy walk to the local train station. However, we took the high-speed TGV train into Avignon, which arrives at a different station further away, but the hotel is a reasonable walk from the terminus of the very convenient direct bus line to the TGV station. Hotel breakfasts are expensive anywhere you go in France, but this was the least expensive of any we had, and matched or surpassed the quality standards of any other hotel - primarily for the convenience we had breakfast here every morning of our four-day stay.

This hotel had a wonderful quaintness we did not expect. The outside of the building, which is quite shabby, does not do the interior justice. It's located just outside the city wall so easy acces to tourist sights and a 10 min walk from both the bus and train stations(making day trips easy). Breakfast in the back garden was very pleasant. The room and bathroom were large by European standards and it was quiet at night. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Comfortable, clean, French charm and with a very pleasant little garden and terrace at the rear, this little hotel just outside the city walls was perfect for a short stay. It's a fairly brisk walk 15mins+ to the main centre of town, and the hotel doesnt have a lift which is a slight drawback if you've a large suitcase and your room is on the 2nd floor. However, the proximity to the railway station a 5min walk, offering routes to the coast and other Provencal towns and beyond, is a big plus. Much enjoyed our 4 night break here.

Conveniently located and met basic criteria. However we got the strong impression that the management were more interested in their own agenda rather than serving their guests. Reception was either unmanned, or the staff were on the phone. The garden was poor and taped off. A single word to describe the hotel would be grudging, except when it came to payment, when the feeling was reversed. Lucky we only stayed two nights!

Second-floor double room nicely fragrant upon arrival. Enjoyed pleasant continental buffet breakfast in courtyard garden prior to departure by train. Hotel conveniently located just outside ramparts, with charm of family-run business. Pictures, description and prices (a modest increase for breakfast) matched our experience. For seniors, disabled or young families, request a garden-level room as the hotel has no lift.

The hotel is quite charming with a very nice outdoor back garden. However, this hotel is not located in the heart of the action and walking at night can be a little daunting, as that part of town is not well illuminated. We did not feel 100% safe at night as the area where the hotel is located, feels a little like a "ghetto". Hotel staff was luke-warm but room was very spacious and clean. If you want and nice affordable accomodation, then St-Roch would be an excellent choice. Drivers beware that driving in this city and finding this hotel is not an easy task. Would not return to Avignon as France has some much better sites to visit!

Avignon is a great walkable town. Most things are close within the town walls. This hotel was close to historic center and the main train station. The room we stayed in was facing the side street which faced student housing, which can at times be loud. Wish the the room had blackout curtains. The room we stayed in faced hotel sign. Had to use an extra blanket to block out light. Next time would try a hotel in center of town, but this hotel was fine for a 2 star.

The Saint Roch was delightful. We saw, but did not use, the communal garden, and drank our wine instead sitting on the balcony of our room. There is a good supermarket in easy walking distance, and the centre of Old Avignon is within fifteen minutes walk. Breakfast was good value and the staff friendly and helpful. There was no air conditioning, but there were shutters to keep the heat out, and the building has good thick stone walls to keep it cool. We stayed 4 nights in this hotel - in a triple room for the first 3 nighhts since we counld'nt get a double room. To be honest, a triple room is not worth it. It is an atec, so the ceiling is too low and there is no door for the bathroom (inc.toilet), which was a bit unconfortable. The double room that we stayed in was quite small but comfortable enough. I stayed four days in this hotel and in general was disappointed. For the price, the rooms were quite small and characterless - certainly they did not have the 'charm of Provence' I was expecting from the photographs and write-up. Also, the staff were rather offhand and condescending. I would probably look for other alternatives if I stayed in Avignon again - but then I probably would opt for another town altogether if I returned to the area. I thought St Remy and Arles were far more appealing towns than Avignon.

The hotel is situated in a side street. The old city wall (with Porte St Roch) is about 160 meters away. Also convenient is a big supermarket about 500 meters away (behind the railway underpass at Avenue Eisenhower). The central railway station and the shuttle bus to the TGV station (departs in front of the main post office) are slightly over 600 m away. Walking distance to the Pont d'Avignon and Popes Palace is about 1,4 km. The staff was helpful but not exceedingly friendly. Communication was not a problem. (English went well.) The hotel is in an old building that looks run-down from the front. They put the rear view as "front view" in the gallery. We had a room to the garden. Sounds from neighboring rooms come through the walls quite easily. The railway line passes about 150 m away (only slow trains there, fortunately). Also, there currently is a big construction site right next to the hotel. There was not very much space left in the room with four beds. The bathroom was basic. One good thing was a metal rack to put your toiletry on. There were only two free outlets in the room. Breakfast is basic, too. No fruits, no müesli. One croissant and a piece of baguette per person. Children pay full price.

The hotel was very basic. Tiled floors basic amenities (no hairdryer or other luxuries)and just a clothes rail (no wardrobe). It seemed other rooms were more comfortable but what do you expect for 50 Euros a night. The sounds of next door's shower could be heard as clearly as if it was our own and the cleaning staff started promptly at 08.00 am which meant you got up at the same time due to the noise. All the main sights in Avignon are inside the city walls which are only about 1 minute away but at night the streets around the nearest entrance to the city are unsavioury and bleak. For a similar price but with air conditioning try the Ibis or Etap hotels just round the corner.

I have sent a separate email listing complaints about this property. The only meal we had at the Saint Roch was breakfast - one piece of bread and one croisant every morning for seven days.No fresh cheese or jam, only pre packed stuff. One safety issue with the room - the step out of the shower is 14 or 15 inches which for elderly people is not safe. The step is one of up about 6 inches and then down 14.The only plus side is that it is near the station.

The Manager was rude and unhelpful - Silly little things that spoil your trip - One day we returned to find the locks on the room had been changed and we could not get in when we did track down a member of staff (the Manager He seemed to find it quite amusing!) Another day we got back and found our room open with the door propped open - not got as our room was a very small self contained unit opening out on to the communal garden( or car park as it should be called) , when we confronted the manager he again found our concern most amusing and told me to "calm down" The area is fantastic but the hotel "Saint Roch" made a week really feel like a "year in Provence"! Oh yes and now sheet cange all week -YUCK I would not every recommend this place - Pay a little more and stay some where else. P.S TO THE MANAGER - IF YOU ARE GOING TO SLAG OFF THE GUESTS TO YOU FRIENDS IN EARSHOT OF THEM MAKE A POINT OF FINDING OUT IF THEY CAN SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE - I UNDERSTOOD EVERY WORD!

The staff was most helpful and friendly. This hotel was within walking distance to downtown. The rooms were clean.

Saint Roch is a charming hotel placed in a very typical old house, though it needs a little more work to be done: the bedrrom is a litle rough, bu very clean and spacious. Not so close of the city centre as it claims, but still, a nice bargain spot to see all the atractions in Avignon. Yet, the photographs show a inner garden that we did not have access to and a bedroom that is not the one they offer for the rate in Venere.
