Very good hotel, well situated. Nice and confortable room. People at the reception desk very nice. Only problem was breakfast. Scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and sausages of very poor quality, certainly not worth the price (+/- 15 eur). Also, the room where breakfast took place was very poorly ventilated, very old air conditioning not functioning properly.

Not sure one could ask for a better location for Avignon....simply superb and centrally located. very well updated for the antiquity so typical of France. Price-wise a "steal" for the situation.

My wife and I stayed in the De l'Horloge for 3 days in Sept 2009. We stayed in a "taditional" room which is a North American sized motel room, with a kink size bed and a seperate bathroom 130€/ night. The room had stains on the walls, but otherwise seemed clean. When we checked in we had to wait until 3:30 becuase the room had not been cleaned from the last users. They allowed us to leave our luggage there and we went for a walk while we waited. The hotel is right at the Papal Palace and the town square so it was VERY convenient to all sights. Lots of eateries near by. It is a noisy area with much happening so we kept the window closed and the A/C on at night. Our room overlooked the town square. The room had a hot water kettle with instant coffee, do not expect a breakfast. This is a big tourist town so eating is expensive, we used the grocery store in town to make lunches, because you could easily spend 150€ a day if eating 3 meals in restaurants. We loved the town, very beautiful, many camera shots to bring home. The Nimes Ville train station just a 10 minute walk away, and, there is a bus that goes to the Nice Centre TGV train station that runs every 20 minutes. There isn't a lot in Avignon, you can pretty well see the town in 2 days, so we took the train to Nimes from here to see the amphiteatre, roman gardens, parthenon (Maison Carrere). The trains was a 30 min ride and runs all day. Nimes was a great town so don't miss it. Three days seemed just about right to do what we did. Conclusion: Hotel location is in a perfectly convenient location, you don't need a car to get around, the traditional room is very near what you would expect from a North American motel room, it's pricey by North American standards but so is everything in France. If you want more luxury you would want to get a more expensive room in the same building, but stick with this building.

My friend and I stayed for a week in early September 2009. We loved the hotel - in particular its position right in the main square in the centre and the friendly and welcoming staff who were were always ready to help. The linen was changed daily and the beds were really comfortable. The room was a bit small for two singles, and there are never enough coat hangers for two women! But we weren't in Avignon to sit in the hotel room, and there was a nice lounge area on our floor, near the room, if we wanted to make a phone call or give each other some privacy. If I wanted to be picky, the bathroom, although spacious, was old-fashioned and I had to crouch in the bath with a hand shower because there was no shower curtain or screen! But it was very quiet (our room did not look out into the main square but was on the other side which prob was quieter anyway) with good air-con - something that I always demand above almost all else in France. I would stay here again.

This hotel didn't meet our standards. I went there with a friend for the Festival and the price of the double room was very high as compared the service provided. In the bathroom particularly there was the closet (?), it was stuck to the toilet and we could open only one of its door! Completely crazy! The breakfast cost 14 euros and we had already paid 140 euros for the room for one night so I think it was too expensive!! The good points were the perfect location and the air conditioned!

We arrived the very first day in which the Festival started. We were in a very nice mess to reach the hotel all the more as no information about the streets that could be travelled by car and the easiest parking had been given in the room confirmation ...

This hotel is located directly on Place de l'Horloge so it is perfect for spending a car free weekend. Both the Palais de Papes and the main shopping and restaurant areas are within 2 minutes of the front door. Apart from that, the hotel is clean, well appointed and the staff very professional and friendly.

A great location and a pleasant hotel with attentive staff. Rooms were a little small, as is the case for almost all french town center hotels, but clean and well maintained. Excellent for Avignon town center and night life. You will have to travel a little to get good food in the center of town as the square caters mostly for tourist menus. A great place to stay to enjoy the hubub of the town and walk easily, in a few minutes, to the Palace Of The Popes.

I have no idea what the room we orignally booked looked like since we were informed as we walked in the door to the hotel that we had been upgraded to a larger room. The location was excellent, with large windows overlooking the main square. The room, even though upgraded, was much larger than I expected with a large bathroom and separate toilet area. The hotel is in a very old historic building and it's hard to tell what it will look like when you walk into the rather small reception area. You couldn't ask for a better location if staying in Avignon. The staff was friendly and helpful and all spoke english fairly well, certainly better than my french.

We were very happy with our stay. The hotel is on a quiet street, but very close to the town square and a large number of busy restaurants and sidewalk cafes, and only a few blocks from the Palais des Papes. It is not much more than a ten minute easy walk from either the train station or the shuttle stop from the TGV station outside of town. Both our room and bathroom were clean, modern and relatively large and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The room we had was on the 5th floor with its own private terrace with views of the Palais de Papes and the 14th Century Town Hall Clock. Very relaxing after lots of driving around provence and walking through avignon

Difficult to control heating in room - too hot at night. For this reason needed to leave window open throughout the night therefore were disturbed by external noise which was sometimes excessive. Have stayed here three times.

This is a charming hotel within the walls of the center of Avignon. We had this great view from our window of the cafe below and was able to walk everywhere. They have this really nice breakfastroom that overlooks the street and you can people watch while eating the best croissants on earth.

Hotel De L'Horloge is the great 3 stars hotel, I have a room on the top floor with terrace and great view of the castle. Breakfast is excellent and price is reasonable. The hotel enviorement is great and close to all attraction. I highly recommended this hotel and would definelty stay there again. Once again, if the top floor one with terrace is avaliable, must try out.

Clean and comfortable hotel with local atmosphere, albeit with rather small rooms, close to the historical centre of Avignon. Friendly and helpful staff. Car parking in underground public car park some 300m away (special rates for hotel guests). Trolley provided by hotel for transporting luggage to car.

Excellent property, vey located right in the center of the town. Try to get one of the larger rooms with a terrace -- well worth the extra few euros.

Website pictures didn't match our experience. The photo is of the corner of the building, in reality, the front door paint is peeling, our room was furnished with dingy and broken furniture. We asked for a non-smoking room, but the room smelled of mold and smoke. It looked as if the "no-smoking" signs (paper tags) had been posted the day before. It _is_ in the middle of everything, but it's pretty worn down.

This hotel was very pleasant and comfortable, overall. The room we stayed in was very small, but did include a full private bath and was relatively quiet. The location was excellent, if you are looking to be right in the heart of what the old town area of Avignon has to offer. Several restaurants and shops are literally within steps of the hotel, and it is located right at the center point of lots of shopping and historical spots. The Palais des Papes is a very short walk, which provided a full day of activities and culture. I would recommend this hotel for a mid-priced stay, and would be likely to return.

Location of the hotel is fabulous: one step to the main square. Rooms are clean, quite spacious and staff is very kind and helpful. Parking is not in the hotel but 5 mins walking. Breakfast is not included and quite expensive for European standards (abt 14 Euro). Overall I would reccomend it.

Delighted with our stay at l'Horloge. On arrival I was briefly cross to find the secure parking was not in the hotel, but the staff were so pleasant & helpful that I soon calmed down, & the system worked well. Our room was large & well equipped, 1st floor on the corner with windows looking across and along the square. Feared a noisy night, but actually very peaceful.

Location excellent good to have kettle in room pity there was only 2 decaf coffee sachet & no milk decor great pity you couldn't draw curtains (other seem to have trued & failled too). Only one bulb out of 4 in bedside lights worked. Hopefully lift will be working soon as carrying cases up 4 floors is not for faint hearted (to be fair there would have been a porter in 30-45 mins).Dr Sandra Sedgwick UK
