This is listed as a 4-star hotel which we did not find to be the case. No coffee in room, no electronic safe box, light out in bathroom, shower head kept falling. Great breakfast.

Very friendly staff, good french breakfast with different sorts of bread, croissants, butter, some fruit jams, honey, nutella, fruit salad, joghurts, orange juice, tea, coffee, hot milk - shortly: a perfect start in a nice day in this wonderful town. The rooms are very quiet and with the free internet you can see movies or news in your own language.

We enjoyed very much our stay at Hotel Cloitre Saint Louis in Avignon. The staff was nice and provided all we needed. Positive points: Quietness of rooms, nice location, beautiful view of the patio from the restaurant and wonderful breakfast!!! Negative points: One of our rooms could only be reached by stairs, which is undesirable for people with heavy luggage or disabilities. The wifi internet was not available in some rooms and could be more powerful. I could only have access in the corridors. But in summary, our stay was great!

The hotel was very good but not quite the luxury expected for the price. I would still recommend it though, for looks and atmosphere. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, but inexperienced - need more training; some need more charm. The restaurant at breakfast needs improvement - take care not to run out of items (occasional) & leave guests waiting; make sure 'hot' food is better than tepid (too often); and very important !!! don't clear the table whilst guests are collecting their food (only happened once)!

Guests should be given the option of staying in the new or old section of the hotel. The modern new section rooms lack the character (old cloister) which the hotel advertises/promotes as part of its charm.

Sadly because of the Festival they could only give me an executive room at 300 euros. I expected a wonderful room. It was up a spiral staircase and felt incredibly claustrophobic. The rooms, even though big, were very dark and one bedside light had no bulb in it. I thought this was appalling at the price I paid. The hotel itself looked lovely but I hated being in my room and was quite scared of there was a fire. I even thought I might get breakfast included at that price. The staff were lovely and I am sure at any other time I would have had a lovely time but I could not wait to leave. I did send my comments to a Manager but didn't get a reply. I don't usually write bad reviews.

Large room almost empty, without decoration, with little space for the desk and the bathroom and large useless empty space for the sofa. Absolutely no decoration on white walls except lots of black marks made by shoes, chairs, ... . In a corner of the roon 2 bath linen for the swimming pool, and a warning that you will be charged 30€ if you don't take them back to your room... Only one person to welcome you at the desk, doing at the same time the phone reservation. In the lobby, ridiculous tiny bathroom on the top of an "escalier à vis". Etc ... It is not the standing of this category of hotel!!!

We stayed in this place 13 years ago and it was excellent. What a difference this time. Elevator did not work for 5 days we stayed and tere were no help to carry our laggage to 2nd floor. Our room was even higher. One day we did not have hot water. Boiler broke up. Did not expect these problems from this hotel.

We arrived with our friends on the 12 th April for 3 nights. We battled to find it until we phoned the hotel and after directions to the station found it straight away. It was very helpful that the reception could speak English. The hotel gives the feel of an old convent but not stuffy at all, very spacious. We had a superb meal in the restaurant, like a Michelin star. My friends' room did not have heating and the window latch was broken and could not close. I would recommend the place anytime for location, food etc, I would have liked tea/coffee making facilities.

A good find in an excellent location, 3 minutes walk to Avignon Centre SNCF station and within easy walking distance of the Popes' Palace and the "Pont D'Avignon", restaurants, shops etc. Although close to the centre, it's very peaceful. The restaurant is very attractive being in the old cloisters (glassed in and heated) overlooking a pleasant courtyard. We had dinner there one evening which was good and good value but took breakfast at a brasserie around the corner for 6eu as against 18eu in the hotel.

Overall a great experience in an unique hotel with an absolute reasonable price and very good value for money. Top location within the city walls of Avignon. The roof top terrace with the small but very refreshing pool is an extra plus. Very efficient and helpful staff who didn´t hesitate to send me the Netbook that I forgot in the room by DHL to our next destination in France without even charging something. That´s what I call excellent service. Would stay there again any time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice hotel and decent value for the money. I personally don't think it has the quality of a 4 start hotel (which it claims). The AC worked, but it never got the room cool enough. The staff was rather friendly. The hotel is rather large, and there were always people in the common areas. There is also a small pool on the roof, but it was always full of kids when we were there (which was good for my 7 year old). I would be more likely to recommend this hotel to families with children than to couples looking for a romantic get-away. Overall, good experience, but not a great one.

A good hotel if quoted 3*, rather desapointed for a 4*. Our room was in a new construction, very modern looking, unfortunately with stairs and corridors looking more a jail than a 4* hotel. The romantism of a cloitre completely loss. Excellent Staff however. Restaurant rather expensive but of good quality.

We found a big aerosol can of insecticide in our cupboard upon arrival. It seems as if it was there for good reason as my wife and I clearly suffered from bites. Mine caused an attack of hives. The hotel, a renovated monastery mind you, offers a pay channel with explicit adult show viewing which we thought offputting.Reception desk service poor.

we really enjoyed this hotel. As I studied with the Jesuits (not in France) it brought back memories. It more than met our expectations, and I thought the value/price was well worth it. Any inconveniences caused were minor. The architect did a good job in modernising the building, yet respecting the identity of a 18th century building. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. The restaurant looked nice, but there are many very good restaurants in Avignon, which are cheaper and with a good view of the town. Around the corner from the hotel there is an excellent rest with food from Alsace. For tourists I would recommend breakfast at McDonalds close to the hotel: they give a breakfast similar, or better that any of the bistrots, but at half the price. (I consider the French as best restaurateurs and gourmands in the world, but there are too many second-rate bistrots and brasseries which overcharge: I only eat at one if its really good). My only suggestion would be that the hotel install a TV camera at the gate of the car park to avoid guests having to get out of their car to request door-opening/closing. The people in Avignon are very friendly and respectful, and I was very glad to able to practise my French a little.

For a 4-star hotel, the beds were extremely uncomfortable (foam mattresses!). The staff was nice enough, but didn't go out of their way to help. The building was a bit of a maze - we had to walk through the dining room to get to our room. I wouldn't stay here again, but would find something close by - this place was located in the perfect spot.

Our room was between the door to access the roof top pool and a toilet. The door to the roof was a heavy self closer which banged when anyone went up or down, the water could be heard at night in the bedroom and when people moved the furniture around. People left the toilet door open so you could see the toilet as you entered or exited the room. However, I requested an extra pillow which was provided very promptly. We were in the modern part of the hotel and it was a little disconcerting to find that one could hear the conversation of the people next to us when we sat out on the balcony area, because the wall did not go right up to the edge due to the design. We did not eat in the hotel as we felt that we got better value for money eating out in Avignon both for breakfast and evening meal.

The standard double room was in the roof space and was very hot. The windows were low on the walls and allowed people by the pool to see in. Air conditioning did not work well. A truly luxurious hotel (in traditional part), in a striking and peaceful setting; decor and breakfast excellent; some staff in reception not particularly welcoming and had poor communication with restaurant staff; in 4* hotel you would expect room service outside restaurant hours or tea-making facilities; pool is only for'plunging'! Would definitely stay again despite these reservations!

Stayed in this hotel during the annual Avignon Festival in July - which was a fantastic event a bit like a less international Edinburgh but with more than 1000 shows in 4 weeks. Highly recommended. Hotel within walking distance from Avignon railway station (and a taxi ride from TGV station) and within the City walls, so very central. Hotel in the grounds of an old Cloister so very peaceful compared with the town as a whole - a little oasis of calm. We asked for (and got) a room in the old part which was up in the eaves but very characterful - long, narrow but spacious with skylights. Service and facilities excellent - small rooftop swimming pool, free internet access. People at reception helpful.

We stayed in a superior modern room which was in some way disappointing as the room was very bland and not sympathetic with the traditional building. Whilst generally the facilities offered by the hotel were very good - and one must accept that there are very few 4 star hotels in Avignon - the real downside of our stay was the very poor air conditioning in the room. We were told that this was not peculiar to our room but was an issue with all rooms. Given that the weather was very hot it did have a negative impact on our stay and we wouldn't return if the air conditioning had not been upgraded.

It was one of the most pleasant hotels we stayed in France/Italy. The decor, layout and surroundings were excellent. Gardens were beautifully kept and the old cloister has been tastefully converted. Staff were courteous and helpful. Clothesline in the bathtub was a bonus. The shower/bathroom area did not have a door (it opened right into the 'corridor'), and there was (frosted) glass between the main living area and shower area. Great for a romantic weekend, but a somewhat embarrassing for three female friends travelling together. I don't think we needed to get to know each other anymore! The map showing location of the hotel from the train station was deceptive - thankfully we didn't decide to walk to the hotel.

My stay at the hotel was extreemly pleasant, so I decided to stay another day and the hotel, which was nearly full, offered me a superior room for the price of the normal one I stayed in for the first night. Very friendly and capable staff, you couldn't wish for a more central good hotel in Avignon, between the Palais des Papes and the Station. The cafe de l'opera is 150 meters from the hotel towards the Palais on the right side and definitely one of the better places for not very expensive lunches. I knew Avignon from 30 years ago, when some of my French aunts lived there, but the restauration of an old Jesuit cloister into this hotel is a great addition to a very fine small town, which also has a very interesting arts festival in July. The festival offices are in the same building as the hotel, occupying the other side of the cloister.

Hotel Cloitre Saint Louis is gorgeous in all ways, a tranquil oasis in the touristy heart of Avignon. The restaurant is fantastic, the food exquisite--the most memorable, beautifully presented and delicious dinner we had during our trip to France. Great service, friendly staff. Comfortable, spacious and well-appointed, our room combined the best of a modern hotel with historic ambiance. Amazingly, the hotel has preserved the peaceful aura of the monastery the building once housed, with all the comfort and convenience of four-star accommodation. Staying here and dining in the restaurant was the best part of our visit to Avignon!!

This old beautiful monastery combined with new architecture and comfort is fascinating, and very good made. The location near the old city center and good parking possibilities are very convenient. But to be a 4-star hotel, there are some things that must be maintained, for example worn out floors, damages due to damp in the bathroom. It was also possible to look into the next bathroom through the ventilator. The noise from the lift and staircase was quite disturbing. The breakfast was good but far to expensive (16 euros).

This hotel is an old historical church. As such, some of the rooms have been fit to the area available. Our room was small with sloped ceiling. We could not stand completely upright in the shower. However, the staff where very helpful and courteous. The location was within the walls of the town. We also spent two nights in the "sister hotel" of the Hotel Clotre St. Louis - The Hotel Grand Avignon. This hotel is only one block away and much more in keeping with American standards. The public areas of the hotel are very nice. The breakfast, while expensive, is very good. I liked that coffee and tea were out and available for many refills, so that we did not have to bother the wait staff for refills to overcome our jetlag. I would definitely stay here again, but I would ask for one of the rooms in the old part of the hotel, as the new, modern rooms, are a bit of a disappointment for such a beautiful historic building. The hotel is convenient to the bus that runs from the TGV, and travelers without too much luggage should skip the taxi and take the bus. The hotel parking lot is very convenient, for those with cars.

The ambiance of the entry courtyard was well worth the four-star rating, and the design of the rooms, public and private, new and old, was exceptional. What a jewel. What a beautiful, serene find--out of the main traffic of the tourist area around the Palais des Papes.

Strange place - however, the setting is very serene and old world. The secure parking is very useful but relies on the staff actually answering the buzzers you have to press going OUT as well as IN. Our record over a week was very patchy, waiting several minutes sometimes. The buttons on the system were a bit battered too and it was not always clear if they were working. Generally we found the reception staff indifferent to us and unwelcoming. Usually no smile or even greeting as we came and went. Good example was on arrival. We checked in and were given the room keys. The receptionist then turned away as if I was supposed to find the lift and rooms by telepathy. I asked to be shown up and it was just as well as the lift was not 'obvious'. The rooms in the old wing were enormous but all bedroom, with tiny bathroom - very nice finish in room and air-con but odd slightly shabby bathroom. Shower sprayed hugely over the floor so we only used it to wash hair in the bath. The hotel advertises a bar - bit of an exaggeration. There is a room with a 'bar' about 4m long and a few seats but you have to ring the bell for service and it is not a very cheery place. Never saw anyone use it in a week. We tried once but no one answered the bell so we went out!! Fortunately you are close to the main street with excellent bars ansd restaurants abounding. The lift in the old wing is hot in the sun but using the stairs means you have to walk through the restaurant or the two meeting rooms to get out - strange layout. Roof swimming pool was nice in the summer heat. This hotel has a great setting and good potential. If the staff had shown any interest in us whatsoever, I would recommend it but I don't really want to.

For a restraurant in France, this one was sub-par. We have come to expect the usual high quality French bread...for example. This was something more like a Pepperidge Farm roll...with the idustrial feel and textrure. A disappointment. We should have eaten at the Bistro on the corner.

When we stayed in Avignon 4 days in march ,it winded really cold(MISTRAL!)I got feaber for the first time on my tour, lay down in the bed half a day.In such an occasion it was fantastic that the room was spacious and comfortable! And the reception staff(to my regret I didn't ask his name!) was nicely kind to help me.He called to the hotel where I've forgotten my goods.Thank you so much.Merci!!

We reserved 2 rooms for me and my family. The hotel show in the web pages a nice room in the old part of the building but they accomodated us in a new part very cold and uncharming and also noisy. We felt deceived. How they think we could know that there is an old and a new building if they don´t say in the web pages??

The staff at the reception were extremely helpful, and were willing to upgrade the room for my two kids, so that they didn't have to share a bed. The rooms were spacious and stylish, and entire hotel looked and felt very different to the run of hte mill 3/4 star hotel. I stay in many hotels; this one was a real pleasure.

Our only complaint was in relation to the quietnesss of our room which was in the new part of the hotel. we found noise from the sliding doors in other rooms intruded into ours and there was also noise from adjoining rooms particularly from the overhead areas. In general we have experienced quieter accommodation considering that this is a newly built section of the hotel

I stayed in new building. That was very clean, comfortable and spacious enough. However two things I have to complain. The corridor of new building was quite dark in the midnight, and there is no door between the bathroom and the room.

It was fine for an overnight stay but the web site description was a bit misleading as it focuses on it being a former school and we were in a newer looking room that was clean and spacious but not the charming hotel we thought it to be based on the website description. One point I'd like to note was that your staff was very gracious and helpful, suggesting a wonderful restaurant and making reservations for us. Overall it was a good hotel, just a bit sterile feeling in the room.

The staff were absolutely wonderful, they could not do enough for us! We were surprised at our room. The hotel is an ancient building, however, the Standard Jardine room was in a new wing that was no different than a modern motel room, with modern furnishings. I was disapointed. The surrounding area is not the best, but was safe. I was surprised to find parking was 10Euro per night, that was not made clear with the reservation. The old section of Avignon is full of one way streets and it was difficult to find the hotel by car. I had to exit the old town and enter through a different portal. The property would not bring me back, however, the staff would! Avignon is a good base to visit Provence.

We have been assigned to a very dark room above the carpark. There isn't enough lighting in the room. The air-conditioning doesn't work very well and the design of the bathroom and toilet is poor. Worst of all, the towels provided by the hotel are very old and are in grayish colour.

Beautiful hotel with brilliant staff. Rather exorbitant prices on drinks from mini-bar, and bar/restaurant. Main reason for choosing was swimming pool and sundeck which were unusable during windy weather.

A smart hotel with a real sense of luxury, a fantastic (but expensive) breakfast buffet, fine roof-top pool and great apartment-style rooms - we had a garden room with its own patio and cool open bathroom. Amazing value for money - I wonder if the rate we paid was a short-term deal?

Excellent hotel and rooms - conveniently located (walking distance to the palais des papes) and had on-site parking. The reservation was for some strange (and still unknown) reason cancelled but the front desk folks at the hotel (Olivier) was extremely helpful and gave us a room for the same price. The courtyard is incredible and so is the outside breakfast area. Breakfast is very good but is a steep 16 euros per person. The only improvement I can make is that there was a small bit of mold in the corner of the bathroom (outside the bathtub) and it would be nice to not have this. I would definitely stay here again since it left a wonderful impression on me.
