We spent there four nights. It was very good time, apart of the problem with checking in. We arrived at 12am, we were told that the room will be ready at 3pm, then at t3pm we were told it will be ready at 4pm, at 4pm it was not ready yet, and the staff was not very gentle I have to say. So I called the manager, who apologized, and adviced us to go the city, which we did. When we were back at night, the room was ready at least. We got a very nice and quiet room, in spite of being close to railway station. with balcony and the view on garden. The rest of our stay there was great. The hotel is ideally located, next to the Avignon Central railway station, next to the bus goint to TGV station, and close to the old city.

I spend one night at Avignon with my family for a brief leisure travel. The hotel itself is astounding, a real "grand hotel" with large rooms, stilish furniture, kind and helpful staff. The immediate surrounding are squallid (after all we are near the central station), but in only 5 minutes by foot you are in the old Avignon city. To park the car you can go in the underground public garage, connected with a dedicated elevator to the hotel.

For a 4 star hotel this was excellent value for money. It is located very conveniently: right next to the railway station, a two minute walk from the shuttle to the TGV station, and just outside the walled city. Good service. Minor quibbles: not enough hangers in the large number of cupboards, the shower stall doors could fit better.

A lovely hotel in a perfect location, right outside the city walls with easy facilities for parking the car and short walk to the centre or the train station. We were upgraded to a suite and that was really impressive: a sitting area with a sofa armchairs and 28inch flat screen TV. The bedroom was also classy with comfortable bed and another bigger TV(!). The view was towards the city walls and a main road that goes along them. Rather noisy with the window open, but sufficiently quiet otherwise. The car park under the hotel is rather steep at 12Euro/day, but too convenient to try for cheaper alternatives.

A little bit far from the city centre, anyway I can suggest booking a room here since the rooms are very large and the common spaces are very nice. The parking is not a property of the hotel but it is quite cheap. Hotel is also near the TGV station, which is good and we did not have any problem.

The room was small but very clean and comfortable. Excellent location--better than expected-- very close to 3 different metro lines, with an easy walk from Gare du Nord, making it an easy trip from/to CDG. Excellent breakfast, well worth the price. We stayed 6 nights and would return again. Staff was friendly and quite helpful.

The parking lot is close but not available 24/24, though indicated. And one morning the ticket couldn't be entered in order to leave the parking (in addition the machine only takes coins!, no banknotes). And the reception was somehow not very helpful. And the reception was not very helpful in recommending restaurants for dinner. And the Internet was blocked for 3 days.

We were in Avignon for 3 nights. As it was our second visit we knew the city but not this hotel. Traveling in low season has given us the chance to stay in this hotel for a modest price. Free internet access is an added convenience. The beds were comfortable but could be upgraded. Excellent hotel overall very close to city centre, train station and shuttle to TGV station as well.

Location: Just outside the wall that surrounds (most of) the historical part of the city and nearby the entrance to the main street inside the wall. Also very close the SNCF railway station (ordinary trains, not TGV). Inspite of this, we did not hear any noise from the railway station. Garage: The hotel does not have its own garage, however, there is a public garage just alongside the hotel. (When you have got your plastic card key to the hotel room, you can use this key to the entrance from the garage directly into the hotel.) There was never any trouble finding a free spot in the garage, but the driveway into the garage was very curved and narrow and rather a bit of a challenge for a Volvo station vagon. Room: We had a double superior room; large sleeping room and large bathroom with separate shower cabinet and bathtub. Surroundings: As long as you have a car, we think Avignon is a nice base for visiting a lot of other places in Provence, Languedoc and Rhone. Just a short distance to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gordes, Aix, Arles and Orange (ancient roman amfi theatre) for instance, and not very far from the coastline. We also took a liking to the historical part of Avignon itself. We stayed for 5 nights, and we certainly would not mind to stay at Avignon Grand Hotel once again.

POSITIVE: - spacious rooms, comfortable for 4 persons - we booked 2 rooms for the 4 of us, but when seeing the rooms upon arrival, we asked to cancel one of them and to stay all of us in just one. No problem for that, we canceled without any penalty. - all the areas are quite. NEGATIVE: - swimming pool is very small - breakfast buffet is too limited for a 4 stars hotel - a minimum of (helpful and friendly) employees at the reception make you need 20 minuts for any consultation, because you have to queu up.

A smelly and dated hotel. 2 bdrm 2 bath was listed, but only one shower worked. Linens were cheap, carpet was dirty and not vacuumed in some areas. Air conditioning did not work in the bedrooms, however when you open the windows you hear the train station noise next door.Staff was unmotivated and unhelpful. We would never stay here again. For the price there has to be better options available.

We stayed at the Hotel Avignon Grand Hotel 3 nights. I found it off the web and everything worked out very well - only a short walk across the street into the historical district. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was the best of all the hotels we stayed at in Provence during a 10 day vacation (plus the best shower), and we also had a very good dinner there one night. the room was very spacious and comfortable. The parking garage is difficult to get in and out of -- very narrow entrance/exit - our only complaint. But at least it has easy entry into the hotel from an interior door in the garage. It would have been best, however, to have known beforehand where to park before registering because it was a bit confusing in terms of driving into the garage and then having to walk outside to get to the hotel desk to get the key that allows access to this door. But otherwise, our stay at this hotel was excellent.

The location of the hotel was excellent as it was so near the railway and bus station. The rooms were huge and rather old-fashioned. The cupboards and wardrobe were a long way from each other (actually in a different room) as I was upgraded to a suite. I would have preferred a more compact, modern room.

Nice hotel -- very comfortable, with friendly professional staff, with good English. Our room, a double superoir, had been upgraded to a major superior, not luxurious, but very clean and spacious, with a big bathroom. Breakfast is an excellent buffet,a bit pricy (but this is a four star hotel. Hotel's location immediately outside the old city walls, is on a modern street right near the big train station (but excellently sound-proofed. Entrance to the old city lies just across the street. The pool could only be considered as a plunge pool, but very welcoming after a hot day. Car parking is available at an underground public park beneath the hotel (access direct into hotel). The hotel makes an excellent base for the city and surrounding area. I would certainly use this hotel again.

A dull modern hotel with not enough staff in reception. But the poor overworked man was very nice as was the morning receptionist and the head waiter. No porters for this amount is disgraceful. The rooms were very tired, but comfortable and the dining room had surpringly good food for a reasonable price. Very spacious room with a little sitting room.

A very nice property. Very well maintained. Spacious rooms. Great location, next to historic city wall and within 5-10 minute walk to Palace of Popes. Some confusion regarding hotel location as there are now 2 train stations in Avignon (its next to old railway station not the new one for high-speed trains) -- although there is a frequent inexpensive shuttle bus between them. Excellent breakfast. A bit expensive.

És un hotel molt recomanable. Com hem vist que passa per aquesta zona d´Occitània, les estrelles dels hotels no es corresponen amb el que n´esperes, però en aquest cas sí; tot i això no serien quatre estrelles d´un hotel de Catalunya.

We were travelling with our two girls (12 and 16 years) and there girlfriend who is 15 y. We booked 2 rooms for a stop over on our trip from Spain and arrived on a Sunday. Obviously we got an upgrade from "standard" to "superior" which was very nice. Both rooms were clean and tidy but there was a unpleasant smell in both rooms which, in spite of opening the windows, kept in the rooms whole stay. We were disappointed by the restaurant. The buffet was empty when we arrived at 20.15(open between 19.00 and 22.00) only the kids got a very little from the starter. The main course was actually good. The waiter was very kind however it needs 15 minutes to clean our table by his colleague while we were standing in the lobby. Same happens at the pool. Our drinks came after almost 45 minutes. We left the hotel at 6.00 am. When I asked the night porter to do me a favour in posting two postcards (I gave him 5 € as a tip)I was suprised when he told me, that the hotel does not have any stamps and I have to go to the post or tobacco shop. Incredulous I convinced him that this is just a normal service for a four star hotel and asked him to talk to his colleagues, who surely will find a solution for this request. However the friendly upgrade compensate the failings at all!

This is not a 4 star hotel. While relatively centrally located, it is pretty far to the better parts of downtown Avignon. Bad room equipment - nowhere to put stuff (hangers in the tiny closet could not even fit jacket - it hit the bottom!) No bathtub, only shower - and that one was dirty!!! Relatively good value for money, though (EUR 85 per night w/o breakfast)

Hotel and rooms are very attractive and good value for money. However, restaurant is rather average as there is no menu, only a set dinner. Overall, we were happy with the hotel and would certainly stay there again! Provence Tours, which we booked through the hotel were very good. Both Phillipe and David were friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

My son (16) and myself enjoyed our stay in Avignon Grand Hotel because of the quality of services provided, its perfect location next to the historical center, but also its proximity to all means of public transportation. It is an ideal place to stay for a couple of days, if you wish to discover not only Avignon, but also other cultural treasures nearby. After a hot summer day you will certainly enjoy the swimming pool on the roof of the hotel and the comfort of your air-conditionned room and hotel premises.

Nice hotel -- very comfortable, with a friendly professional staff with good English. Our room, a double suite, was not luxurious, but stylish, very clean, and very spacious, with a big bathroom. Breakfast included with the price -- big buffet in the main-level dining room. Hotel's location immediately outside the old city walls explains, I think, the lower price compared to other hotels -- you are on a modern street right near the big train station -- but entrance to the old city lies just across the street. Because we opened our windows at night, our room, which faced out on a main road, got significant street noise in the morning. One funny quirk -- the hotel has energy-saving motion-sensitive lighting in the halls, which meant we exited the elevator and our rooms into darkness each time, until the motion sensors picked up our presence -- it worked, but was a little weird.

We used the hotel for a stopover going from Germany to Spain. We were very exited about the location in city i.e. we could walk to see everything while leaving the car in the garage. For a family travelling by car it is highly recommendable as you can park underneath hotel, and the family room had plenty space for 2 adults and 2 children (even 2 TVs). Breakfast was included in the EUR 130 we paid in total.

My husband and I stayed one night at the Grand en route to the south of france. We had a special rate of 140 euros for the night, including a great breakfast. The hotel was clean, spacious and the staff welcoming. The location, just outside the city walls, was perfect. We had had a long journey from london and were delighted with the hotel. Car parking was easy in the underground car park and our short stay in the hotel was not only convenient but really pleasant.
