Hotel Athos - Athens

What a delight! Athos exceeded our expectations from the moment we turned the corner of the street to see the desk clerk waiting to show us the way in to the hotel. Our room and bathroom were small but totally clean and functional. The queen-sized bed was firm and comfortable. The flat-screen TV with CNN and Al Jazeera was a nice surprise. The desk clerks were extraordinarily helpful and friendly, and by the second day knew us by sight, and had our key waiting each time we walked in. One helped us arrange a day trip to Delphi with flawless instructions - no need for any of the Greek I learned before my trip! The location absolutely can't be beat - it's a 10-minute walk from the Acropolis, 5-minutes from the Metro station (it's not right on Syntagma Square, as I initially thought), and although the Taverna on the street was noisy, I wouldn't have expected quietness when staying downtown in a city of 5 million people, and I felt safe walking down the streets at any hour of the day or night. We didn't take breakfast at the hotel, which was fine. The view from the rooftop terrace is, indeed, breathtakingly perfect. We were there in May, and so needed neither heat nor A/C, and slept with windows open every night.

The hotel was in fairly good condition and well updated. The room was a bit small for 2 people to move around. The bathroom was really small to have a very comfortable shower. The rooms and public areas were clean and presentable. Good place to go on a budget.

Excellent location. You can walk to all important sites and museums, and there is a good choice of restaurants in the vicinity.

We wanted a hotel near the centre but didnt want to pay a high price this hotel was perfect! the street was a little dark, with some buildings needing renovation BUT five minutes walk away was Syntagma square and the Plaka so it was ideal for us as we walk everywhere. I (female) went out on my own early evening and walked around for over an hour and felt quite safe. All staff really friendly, we didnt have breakfast every morning but when we did it was adequate. Superb view of Acropolis from roof top!

This is a very clean place to sleep in a great location. We opted for the less expensive room without a view of the Acropolis but they put us in a room with a view anyway. Hotel staff was friendly. Hallways are loud but tolerable. It is located on an alley so cab drivers do have a hard time finding. We felt safe to walk to sites from the hotel. We spent very little time in our room but were very pleased with our choice and would recommend this simple and efficient hotel

The air conditioner only worked marginally so the stay was very unpleasant as Athens was about 96 degrees during the time we were there. We were not allowed to switch rooms although the hotel appeared virtually empty and were told all the air conditioners were the same. The help we received was polite but not at all helpful, no one seemed able or interested in dealing with the issue. We had a balcony but it opened into a "box" of other balconys and where all the heat exchangers were so was even hotter than exterior temps with no air circulation. The location is also on a dirty alley type street.

Awesome location easy walk from Syntygma Square, metro station and great shops.

This was a very good hotel to say in.The rooms are big and there are lots of shops in the area
