This hotel was perfect for us. A room with a great view of the Temple of Zeus, right down the street from the Placa and the Acropolis Museum and within walking distance to all major sites. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at their roof garden restuarant. The night view of the Acropolis was spectacular. The breakfast buffet was plentiful. The staff were very helpful; allowing us to check in early when we arrived from our cruise and arranging for a taxi to the airport. I appreciated free internet access and the opportunity to print boarding passes. Will definitely stay at the Athens Gate on a return trip to Athens.

We were, as you understood, very happy of our stayng in the hotel; the staff was very, very kind and competent, we would like to insist on this point. One thing missed and we would like to suggest for the breakfast: fresh orange juice!!!

The location of this hotel simply cannot be beat if the focus of your visit to Athens is the Acropolis and the ancient sites of Greece. On top of that, the staff is incredibly charming and goes out of its way to help its guests, most of whom do not speak one word of Greek and have never visited Athens before. The rooms are more than adequate, although newcomers to Europe may be surprised and how compact they are. Still, mine had a bit of a balcony that faced onto a quiet street. I heard not a peep from any adjacent rooms, and the hotel was quite busy, probably full. There is a rooftop restaurant/bar where breakfast is served that has a double sided dead-on view of not just the Acropolis, but the Temple of Olympian Zeus. A middle-aged Athenian friend who met me for coffee was so excited by the view he brought back some visiting relatives the same day to see it. The hotel is adjacent to one of the nicest parts of the Plaka, with innumerable eating and shopping choices, and the Acropolis museum is less than a 5 minute walk away. I would definitely go back, since I love Athens and the Acropolis museum is a place where I could never be bored!

Travellers will love the location for the Zeus gardens, Acropolis and Parthanon. Once inside the hotel; amazing how lovely it is! Only problem was we were told by staff that Acropolis was closed on a Monday for a holiday; but it was not. fortunately, we found out in time by just going to the site. It was open. Food great; rooftop a must to see!

This is a great hotel - centrally located and easy to get everywhere, great views from the rooms and the rooftop, modern/spacious rooms, great bathroom. The rooftop lounge offers an amazing breakfast that's included with the room price - also a nice place to hang out late afternoon or for a late-night drink. The staff was very helpful - everyone from front desk to the staff in the rooftop lounge. I will DEFINITELY stay at the Athens Gate again.

Our room was on the 6th floor with a view towards the Acropolis. We had an excellent view and a very quiet room. However, I realize that on lower floors the view would not be very good and on the other side of the hotel, facing a busy street and Zev's Temple, it would probably be rather noisy. However, whereever your room is, the view from the top floor restaurant is magnificient in all directions. The breakfast offered there is wonderful, dinner is good too. Bed was OK, bathroom very good, AC worked well, WiFi too. If you are there on business you might miss a writing desk (however, we used a small table there). All hotel staff we met were extremely service-minded, you will not find any better, anywhere. Hotel location must be the best in Athens.

Great location - within easy walking distance to all major sites. Front desk staff was WONDERFUL! Brought our bags up to our room, had wonderful advice on visiting sites, even packed us up breakfast when we left at 4am for an early Sunday morning flight. I would stay here again for sure. Shower was GREAT for europe (wonderful water pressure, nice size, etc.). The noise from the street was a bit loud - probably the only reason I didn't give this hotel a ten.

Great value for the price, excellent hotel with a very professional and helpful staff. The service was above our expectations. If you want to explore athens and want a hotel within walking distance to some of the top archelogical sites of the city (and the world) and you would not like to sell your car to afford it, it is impossible to find a better hotel than Athens Gate. And not to mention the view from the roof garden - it was simply breathtaking, both in daylight and by night.

This hotel was exactly the way it looked in the pictures. We were in Athens for one day only and needed to bei n close proximity to the Acropolis, this was perfect for that. We managed to do everything , including going out for dinner just around the corner from the hotel. They let us use their internet for free as well. Staff was very friendly and could speak English. They gave us a map upon arrival and showed us where to go. This is an excellent hotel.

Location is fantastic. We arrived after midnight at airport, took the bus to the Parliament square and walked easily to the hotel. The greeting and service from the desk on arrival was excellent. The view from the Rooftop where breakfast is served is AMAZING (Acropolis seems a handreach away). Our room faced the Temple of Zeus -and a main road, but with windows closed and drapes drawn we heard little noise. Bathrooms modern, everything very clean, comfortable bed. This hotel deserves the high Venere.com ranking that convinced us to book there. (Thanks, Venere.com!)

Great location, friendly and helpful staff, amazing view from restaurant. Room was clean, but small, and had no coffee/tea service, but did have a mini-bar. Good breakfast buffet, with the best view in town. There was nothing between us and the Acropolis.

We loved this hotel. What stood out for us was the service-- we had an early flight and the staff packed a breakfast for us to go, and had coffee in the lobby, and even produced tea when asked (before 6 am). The breakfast was terrific on a roof terrace with outstanding views of the acropolis. We also had lunch there and one of the best greek salads of our trip. The location is near the Acropolis and walking distance to Plaka. Yes, the street is busy, but our room was very quiet, with a view of the Temple of Zeus from the balcony. Our beds were comfortable, and the bathroom sleek, upscale and with very nice bath products. And it was easy to get transportation anywhere (try getting a cab from a hotel in Plaka-- impossible!) On the way back from the islands, it was not available and we stayed at Magna Grecia for about the same price. No contest! (That hotel is a shabby-chic wanna-be). We will definitely come back.

The Athens Gate is located very well with a beautiful roof-top view of the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It is also just around the corner from the Plaka, New Acropolis Museum and the underground Metro. There are many tavernas and tourist shops nearby. My room was wonderful on the 5th floor with a great view, so I was very happy there. It was boutique style and extremely clean and neat. The bathroom is small but was not a problem for me. The staff was very helpful in booking me a tour of the historical areas. I ate dinner in the roof-top restaurant which was excellent and it was amazing to see the Acropolis lit at night. I would highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Athens who are interested in the historical sites.

We spent three nights at this hotel. it was easy to find. only problem was metro was under repair. next time i would take train in to hotel , rather than bus. hotel rooms were clean , spacious and had a great view. road side rooms had some noise but it did not bother most of our party as we were on 6th floor. view on our floor and at restaurent was great. breakfast was included , was hot and cold and was excellant. location was great. near plaka , acropolis and metro. overall very good value for money and would most certainly stay there again. as good as advertised

We stayed 4 nights, staff spoke excellent English, room was nicely renovated. The only problem we had with the room is that the shower stall did not have a door on it, so the water leaked and sprayed all over the floor. The free breakfast was adequate, fruit, eggs, breads, etc. Rooftop restaurant was had fabulous views day and night, great atmosphere.

Great Hotel, with excellent location. We had an amazing view of the Parthenon (and also from a window in the bathroom). The view was especially beautiful at night! The only negative was that the room was a bit small, but this seems pretty standard for most European hotels. Service was wonderful. When we asked for a taxi for the airport at 6 the next morning, the hotel offered to pack a breakfast basket to take with us! We would definitely come back again.

This is a great location for all first time travelers to Athens. Staff was very helpful. Roof top cafe and restaurant was great for an afternoon cocktail and the food was very good at dinner. Room advice: If you want an Acropolis View you must have a 6th or 7th floor room. I had #614 and it was great but if you are on a lower floor you will be looking onto a building. The front rooms above the 4th floor have a great view of the Temple of Zues but will be a bit noisy from traffic. My only advise is to book directly with the hotel and request an upper floor.

The Athens Gate Hotel is a good choice for those exploring the sights of Athens as it is central to most and within 10 minutes walk of the Acropolis. It has good views from the roof garden restaurant and the breakfast there is pretty good and goes great with the views, although the staff are a little bit slow at setting up and cleaning the tables with views. The room we had was thoroughly modern and comfortable but the noise from the traffic was quite loud, even though our room was overlooking a side street at the back we could still hear the traffic. The Athens Gate is on one of the busiest roads, day and night, in Athens. The staff at reception were great and always helpful to us. Good place to stay.

Arriving from a cruise ship well before check-in time we were offered a room straight away if we were prepared to forego a bath and have only a shower. We still had our Acropolis view. Breakfast was also on offer at the rooftop bar. After several days with an early start this leisurely approach to a day in Athens was most welcome.

Great location for Plaka and Acropolis explorations. Backside of hotel room a MUST! Unbeatable nighttime views from rooftop restaurant. Had a king superior room on a back corner; quiet clean and spacious by European standards. Less than 5 min walk fr Acropoli METRO stop. Hotel arranged airport pickup, went very smooth. Would stay here again next time in Athens....

My wife and I stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel for 5 nights and four days in May 2008 -- it was excellent for our first visit as tourists to Athens in all respects. We are non-smokers and wanted as quiet a room as was possible: previous reviews told us that the sixth floor (of seven) was all non-smoking and that the (back) side with the view of the Acropolis was much quieter. We had a fine view of the Parthenon from our sixth-floor room and could even leave the window open (so the noise was truly minimal). We did reserve a double superior room for 30 euros more, but the view and extra space was worth it -- probably only the sixth and seventh floors have a view. The rooftop restaurant is excellent, also with terrific views, and the breakfast buffet was first class. We liked that we could easily circumnavigate the Acropolis from the hotel. As mentioned in another review, the Acropoli metro stop is the closest one by far to the hotel. This hotel has got to be the best in Athens in its price range.

We would stay again without hesitation. Rooms on the street side have some traffic noise which was not bothersome to us as we are city dwellers. Should be taken into consideration by those more sensitive. The views are outstanding and sunset from the rooftop bar is especially memorable. Could not be more convenient to the Acropolis, the Plaka or the Metro.

Tastefully renovated, metro close, near major archeological sites, great staff, rooftop bar, nice view from the room. We enjoyed our stay here. It is on a busy street and noise could be an issue for light sleepers, but was fine for our urban ears.

The Hotel Athens Gate was very clean and the rooms provided for more space and comfortability that was expected. Noise did however travell however was mostly quiet and muffeled, the staff were very helpful and the included breakfast was excellent. My husband and I stayed at the Athens Gate hotel from 2/16 - 2/19. Despite the crazy amount of snow, our stay was made quite pleasurable by our fantastic hotel. The staff was welcoming and helped us with travel questions, dinner reservations, museum hints, etc. The hotel is well-located and w/in walking distance to everything. The view from our room was of the Temple of Zeus (rec), but the rooftop breakfast room has a stellar view of the Acropolis. The breakfasts were tasty with a nice selection of hot and cold items. Also, our one dinner upstairs was delicious. Overall, the hotel felt very upscale and fresh... Our bathroom, while small, was like a spa. Because of the snow, we had to spend quite a lot of time in our room, so it was great to have such a well-appointed, comfortable place in which to linger. I would certainly stay with the Athens Gate again.

We (group of 4, 30yrs) really liked that hotel. Very friendly staff, clean and relatively spacious rooms. The private balcony had a great view on the acropolis (2mins walk just around the corner). Facilities are the best I've seen around southern Europe hotels (renovated in 2007). But the very best of the hotel is its roof garden. Sitting outside, you have a direct 100m look onto the zeus temple (just across the - noisy - street), turn around and the acropolis is directly in front of you. For a weekend or so you won't need a taxi as everything nice is in easy walking distance. Try to get a backside room as high up as possible (Floor 6 or 7) to enjoy the acropolis view and avoid street noise. All in all, a bargain for the quality offered and defintely a recommendation.

Everything about our stay was wonderful. The staff is exceedingly helpful and professional, and the location is ideal. Each room has a breathtaking view of either the Temple of Olympian Zeus or the Acropolis, and you can see both from the rooftop restaurant, bar, and garden. The breakfast buffet is divine, and the restaurant is excellent -- we ate there twice. The Venere website should correct the Metro information, though -- according to the hotel, the closest metro stop is Acropoli (only a block or so away), not Syntagma (over a kilometer, quite a haul with suitcases).

We had the great pleasure of staying at the Athens Gate hotel in mid-September, 2007. Our room was most pleasant: tasteful contemporary furniture, comforable queen bed, overhead shower, patio overlooking Zeus Temple &Lyckabettus Hill. Buffet breakfast (fresh fruit, various eggs and breakfast meats, tasty pastries) served on rooftop (both outdoor & indoor seating), with spectacular views of Acropolis & Zeus Temple. Location terrific, next to Plaka, and short walk to Acropolis, National Gardens, and other sights. While on a busy street, area is very clean and pleasant to walk around. Metro station is close; also a stop for excellent “tourist tram” that circles the city: stop where you like, hop back on to resume journey (5 euro ticket allows 24 hr access to the bus and subway system as well; purchase tix at Syntagma Square closeby). Though our room faced the busy street in front of the hotel, we heard no traffic noise with the windows closed (as required for the AC, which worked fine); in fact overall the room and hotel were extremely quiet and peaceful. Finally we must mention the staff – not only were they extremely courteous and helpful during our stay, but they also took it upon themselves to forward to our home in the USA a package that we had inadvertently left behind, at no cost to us (Thank You, Petros!). While we have not stayed at other Athens hotels, the combination of the quality room, great location, fine breakfast, fabulous views, and outstanding staff make the Athens Gate a particularly excellent choice, particularly given the very reasonable rates compared to other hotels with similar or lesser features (and in some cases unfavorable reviews). For our next trip to Athens, we have no reason to book anywhere but the Athens Gate.
