The Achilleion is in Omonia, which is not an area for the faint-hearted and seems to be getting sleazier, though I certainly never felt in danger, and the good thing about the Achilleion is that it's on a large avenue, so certainly feels safer than a hotel in one of the side streets (which I did walk around on during the day without any incident). Inside, it's absolutely fine - very clean rooms, helpful service and while it's not going to be anyone's romantic destination hotel, I booked 2 rooms for $110, which is an extraordinary bargain for central Athens, within walking distance of all the sites and I'd stay there again, at least if I needed an overnight before getting to the airport (where there seem to be no affordable hotels at all!).

A lovely hotel and staff. The only negative is that it isn't in the nicest area of Athens. We were warned to be careful by two different people about being out alone or at night. Having said that, we had no issues, it just made us more aware.

The hotel is situated on the main road from the townhall to the harbour, which never gets quiet. The rooms themselves are not insulated against this noise and therefore are not suited for people who don't sleep easily. Apart of this major problem, the hotel and its staff are more than OK.

Achillion Hotel has 63 guest rooms, all with Egyptian cotton sheets and climate control. Balconies provide city views. Guests can kick back at the end of a busy day and enjoy 20-inch plasma televisions with satellite channels. Business travelers visiting the Metaxourgio area will have access to free wired and wireless high-speed Internet access as well as desks and direct-dial phones.
Private bathrooms are outfitted with hair dryers and complimentary toiletries. Additional guest comforts include soundproofing, windows that open and air conditioning.
