Arrived late at night, 2am, took elevator to our floor and first thing we saw was a cockroach in the hallway. Entered room and everything looked old and frayed. Big stain in middle of bedspread. Dirty looking floor around walls and the room cost 160 euros per night. Went back to reception to nicely complain and was told cockroaches could happen anywhere. No apologies or offer to change room. He told me there was a nicer room on the top floor but it was 250 euros a night. No offer of a discount. We finally took the other room which was nicer and cut our stay to 2 nights, the minimum they would allow without penalty. Day stay seemed more reasonable and they did finally cut the room price to 200 euros. Bottom line, I'd look elsewhere.

The Hera Hotel in Athens is one of the best hotels we stayed at during a recent 4 week holiday in Italy and Greece. The Hera is only a five minute walk from the Acropolis Metro stop which makes getting to and from the Athens International airport very easy. It only cost 9 euro per person. You do need to change from the blue line to the green, but even that is easy. No need to take a chance getting ripped off by an Athens taxi driver. We were upgraded to a junior suite with a fantastic view of the Acropolis. Our balcony was large and comfortable. The hotel is very modern with every luxury one would expect from a four star hotel. The staff was friendly and all spoke English. The breakfast buffet was the largest we had ever encountered. The hotel itself is located only a few short minutes walk from the Acropolis and the Platka. In fact, it was so close to the Platka that I would almost consider it in the Platka. We ate dinner in the Platka every night. The neighborhood is quite and friendly. The hotel was very easy to find. What else can I say, if you are looking for a GREAT hotel in the center of EVERYTHING, the Hera Hotel is it!

My wife and I stayed at the Hera for six nights. We needed a location that was convenient for a conference I was attending as well as close to all of the sights. The Hera was excellent in that regard. It is an easy walk to the Acropolis and Plaka which is where many of the restaurants are. The hotel itself was nicely renovated in 2004. The rooms are decent sized with nice furnishings and an attractive marble tiled bath. Make sure you request a room with a balcony and view of the Acropolis. When comparing the Hera to other hotels, keep in mind that an excellent breakfast (in a very nice room with many windows looking onto flowering plants and a domed ceiling) as well as Internet access (using an Ethernet cable) in your room are included. Finally, the staff was all very courteous and helpfull.

We had a great stay at this hotel. Our small balcony has a view of the Acopolis - which was within walking distance to the hotel. The breakfast room was lovely, and the food great. The restaurant at the top of the hotel was also very nice, with a beautiful view of the Acropolis. The food was very good. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Travel tip -a trip to the ancient site of Apollo's Temple at Delphi (about an hour and half out of town) is well worth it. The countryside and ruins are breathtaking.

The hotel interior was new (was gutted for the '04 Olympics) which is a plus. Taxi's had no problem finding it. Airport buses were a different story. Three different information booths had no idea how to get there. Only by accidentally sitting next to a nosey driver who was reading our paperwork over our shoulder were we directed to the right bus. Apparently it is not yet on the radar screen for tours either. After our day-long tour to Delphi we had to give the guide directions to it also. The full breakfast was one of the reasons this hotel was chosen. We were not disappointed. We could see the Acropolis from our balcony, good location. The streets were too small for the busses to navigate which helped limit noise and required that we walk 3-4 blocks to board our tour bus. There is a mini park (about 1/2 block long) diagonally across the street where one or two homeless people resided. We walked past during daylight hours-- no problem. Hotel is within one block of the beginnings of Plaka shopping area.

What a find! Situated just down the road from the Acropolis Metro station this little gem of a hotel is truly brilliant. I have never felt more welcomed in my travels. The rooms are beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean and maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend the Hera to anyone visiting Athens.

Hera is a new hotel with excellent value for the price. The staff is very friendly. I spent 5 days there on business and had a wonderful experience. The Plaka is just a few minutes walk away and the Metro is very accessible as well.
