    General map

Plaka, the Athens district in which AVA hotel is situated, is full of stone-paved, narrow streets, making you feel like you are travelling back in time. This is Athens oldest and, thanks to the restoration efforts which went into its buildings in recent years, most picturesque neighbourhood.

You will be delighted by the beauty of the neo-classical colours of its houses, their architecture, their lovingly tended little gardens, the elegance, and the total atmosphere of the area.

When you decide to take a walk around it be sure to bring a map along, because Plaka is a labyrinth and you may get the feeling that you are lost in its maze of narrow streets and alley ways. No need for alarm though. It is easy to orientate yourself: uphill is the Acropolis and downhill are Syntagma square and Monastiraki.

AVA Hotel Athens is rated number ONE by TripAdvisor and with good reason. First, the location - only minutes by foot to the Acropolis and just about every other attraction. The Hotel is quaintly small yet the rooms are spacious and spotless. The staff was great and upon our check-in gave us two free passes to the new Acropolis Museum as well as a bottle of Champagne. My girlfiend and I would have liked to have breakfast included for the price we paid for the room but tjis is still the hotel of choice for me in Athens. We can't wait to return.

This was a wonderful place to stay - close to everything - the Plaka, the Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum. Very modern and spacious and the service was exceptional. I couldn't recommend it more highly. We were a family of 3 and we stayed in an executive apartment. Loved every minute of the stay. Best place on our entire trip.

AVA is really great !! Just a perfect palce to stay. OK, we have to confess that one of our room was upgraded to an executive suite. But nevertheless: a clear recommandation !! Greek is in general a very polite country. But the staff at AVA is the top of the top. Thanks to you guys again !! 2 hints: the view of the Acropolis is not worth the surcharge. But the quality of the rooms is it !! And although the breakfast at the hotel seems to be very good - you may walk out of the hotel just 30m to the right and find a very nice Coffeeshop, very stylish, not very cheap but you can enjoy a Greek Coffee and a Croissant for Euro 6 in a really groovy atmosphere. If you go to Athens - go for AVA !! We will come back for sure

My only concern was that I didn't understand that breakfast wasn't included when booking through Venere. That was a surprise. Otherwise, we couldn't have been more pleased with the Hotel and staff. Staff was more than accommodating when assisting us with what to see and places to eat. Would stay again at AVA in a heartbeat. Excellent location too!

the location is superb, just on the outer rim of Plaka. Anyone traveling to Athens should not stay at hotels not aroud Plaka, which is only tourist friendly place. We went to the musuem at weekedns, and there were drug dealer and drunken people in the park, on the street, and on the floor. Plaka is relatively safer looking in many way. AVA hotel provide free internet inside the room, and is always quiet and strong in A/C. It has great view of Acropolis on the terrance, and yet not so noisy as some of the hotel located inside Plaka.

We could not have chosen a better hotel. The people were friendly and the service was great. The location is perfect. In the centre of Athens, in Plaka, right at the base of the Acropolis, a 3 minute walk from the Metro. The rooms are large and offer all of the ammenities that one could need in a room. We were there on our honeymoon. When the hotel found this out, they even brought a bottle of Champagne to our room. Very nice touch. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend AVA hotel and suites to anyone travelling to Athens and looking to stay in a great hotel at a reasonable price.

The location of the hotel is perfect for visiting this very attrative part of Athens. It was posible to walk to the Zeus Temple and the Acropolis in one afternoon. The traffic free cobbled streets and the outdoor dining were perfect. Due to the short transit we did not see much of the hotel but the staff were very welcoming and our family room was excellent.

Was led to believe with online photos and remarks that there were rooftop areas not associated with specific suites or rooms that would be available to all hotel guests, this was not available as suggested in hotel photos. Staff was very congenial and helpful for all needs, location in Plaka was exceptional Acropolis was within 30 minutes walking

We were very impressed with the rooms, service and location of the hotel. Most of the historical land marks are within a 10 to 20 minute walk from the hotel. It is a small hotel with only 15 rooms, but each room has a small kitchenette and is very spacious. The hotel staff was outstanding. They were very friendly and made several recommendations for restaurants that were excellent. We will definitely stay here again and will recommend it to others.

The AVA Hotel is in a prime location. When you walk out the front door of the hotel you can see the Acropolis on the right and the temple of Olympian Zeus on the left. Both are just a short walk away. Also other attractions such as Ancient Agora and Roman Agora are close. Plaka district is full of great shopping, eating, and entertainment. We never looked very long for a restaurant. The Greeks greeted us on the street and there was usually a fair bit of competition between the restaurants with loads of tables available. From the moment we walked in the door of this hotel we were greeted with such warmth and enthusiasm from the staff. You could tell they really cared weather you enjoyed your stay. The service was absolutely wonderful. We would definitely return to this hotel again and again.

AVA is a lovely hotel just next to Plaka district in Athens. Its staff is very friendly and polite. They were quite helpful. We told them we are honeymooning couples and they gave us a champagne bottle free aswell as upgraded our apartment free of cost. Hotel is small and lovely and definitely I would come back and stay at AVA only during my next trip to Athens.

Staff are wonderful and cater to your every need. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. It is a small hotel with limited facilities (no pool or recreation facilities), but if you want a great place in the center of the plaka and historical center. This is the place to stay. We had a great time.

Extremely convenient location for visiting the most popular sites. Accommodating staff upgraded us (because I had requested a room with a view) from a triple to an executive suite that became available (at no extra charge). My husband, adult daughter, and I enjoyed the spaciousness and kitchen facilities--allowing us to prepare our own breakfast. We only stayed one night in this hotel (of 4 nights spent in Athens) because of the price. We were surprised to find the beds sloppily made at this caliber/price of hotel but the room did appear clean. We enjoyed our stay but would probably not return to this hotel because of the price. Athens center is easy enough to get around in without having to stay in such a prime location (unless you mind walking and/or using Athens' terrific METRO system).

We stayed in one of the suites. Although it cannot be called a luxury it was spacious, clean and with all the amenities to make our stay comfortable. It had a large balcony which was such a delight to sit in when the sun was out. Staff were courteous, welcoming and very helpful. As for the location my comment is just like any other review you read about this hotel - simply unique. I would definitely stay at AVA on my next visit to Athens.

My partner and I stayed at the AVA Hotel for three days before our cruise and one day after our cruise. The location was perfect! Several buildings up the street from Hadrian's Arch and several buildings away from the main shopping street in the Plaka. The staff were all extremely welcoming, helpful, and friendly. We stayed in a very large first floor room that had a large quite patio perfect for smokers. Breakfast was quite good the perfect start for a day of sightseeing. Our room was on the back side of the hotel and was very quiet so I had no problems sleeping. The staff made dinner reservations for us and got us taxi cabs in a moments notice. I would definately stay here again!

A very well situated hotel; just off the Plaka (five minutes from room to a taverna under the walls of the Acropolis). I only stayed for two nights so didn't use the kitchenette for cooking, but this would be an asset for anyone who was would be staying longer. I can throughly recommend this hotel for a stay in athens.

What a great place to stay for a first time visit to Athens. The rooms (we stayed in an Executive Apartment)was one of the largest I have seen anywhere, especially in Europe. It had a large bedroom, living room, kitchenette and a small patio where we would drag a couple chairs to when having our morning coffee. The bathroom was big enough to hold a small bed. The king size bed was typical european, 2 twins on a platform that kept seperating during the night. Right in Plaka, you see the temple of Zeus and the Acropolis (well a very small part of it ,the Parthenon can not be seen at all, so do not be disappointed). The hotel is near a fairly busy street, but we were there on the weekend, so the noise was not bad. Being in Plaka, there were plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. You can skip breakfast at the hotel and walk into Plaka for breakfast at 1/2 the price. As all the sights in Athens are spread out, the location was neither good nor bad in that respect. We took a taxi from the airport, so we can not comment on the metro, although we hear it is good. If you want great taxi and limo service, look for George the famous taxi driver on the web.

Staff were very helpful and pleasant. However, out of three wake-up calls, only two were on time, with one being 20 minutes late and one thirty minutes late. Other than this, all was good. There were three of us in a triple and while the third bed could have been better, our 17 yr. old gramdson didn't seem to mind. Great location and good value.

The location is fantastic! A direct shot from the airport on the metro. A nice, pleasant 5 minute walk to the nearest metro stop. Close to shopping at the Plaka, the shops of Ermu, and a nice walk to the Psiri. The staff was very helpful and their hospitality was terrific! They went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was good! I would definitely go back and stay there! The suite was spacious and had a gorgeous view!

This hotel was excellent. Superb location right under the Acropolis. It was the most expensive place we stayed in our 6 week trip in Europe so you obviously get what you pay for! The rooms were like palaces and we stayed on the ground floor - so we got an outdoor courtyard. The staff were so friendly and helpful which was a refreshing change in a rude, aggressive city such as Athens.

I'm responding on behalf of my parents. They had a lovely stay, and commented that this is a 5 star establishment. They thought the walk from Syntagma Square to the hotel was longer than stated on the website (which they informed the hotel) but nevertheless they thought the hotel was in an excellent location and would highly recommend it to everyone considering a trip to Athens. Eleni, George and Olympia were amongst the hospitable staff that my parents encountered who made their stay extra special.

This hotel is in a nice location in the small street that goes to Hadrian's Arch; the Akropolis metro station is just near.We stayed in w/e of 18 nov. and it was quiet around. It has very spacious rooms, clean and modern, with little kitchen. ADSL connection included (other hotels in athens may charge around 20 eur/day for that). Staff is kind and willing to help you. We had a fantastic week staying in an apartment in this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and attractive (and very well sound proofed, we didn't hear the other guests whilst we were there). We found smallkitchen area really useful as it allowed us to go to the food market and try our hand at a spot of cooking. Even if you don't fancy that, being able to have a plate to eat your bread and cheese off (and somewhere to wash up after)is very useful! I would definitely recommend this hotel to otehr guests.

A very quiet and comfortable hotel perfectly situated on the edge of the Plaka area of Athens. Very friendly staff. Very clean. My husband felt that the level of services available was insufficient for the prices charged eg no bar, no room service. However I felt that the prices were justified by the position and that you don't need a bar or room service when you are surrounded by all the bars and restaurants of the Plaka! We had a lovely stay and would recommend it to friends who want to visit an exciting city but stay in a quiet position.

We found the Ava Hotel a real find. Our suite was spacious, with kitchenette, living room, huge bedroom, two balcony doors and wonderful view off double balcony. There was noise from the street below because the hotel is in the heart of the Plaka District so a lot of people walk there towards the Acropolis and the shopping district. This did not bother us and just made our stay more exciting because we were within walking distance from everything we wanted to see and do. Hotel staff were friendly and very helpful and we felt we had a home away from home. We would highly recommend this hotel. This is where we would stay if we came back to Athens.

Location was paramount. Also very clean, quiet, etc. I screwed up one of window blinds because I couldn't figure out how to close it. Only suggestion for improvement would be changing your directions on the website. You say you are across from Hadrian's Arch. I went there and then went up and down the street along the other side of the arch to no avail. You are actually 30 meters up the street running away from Hadrian's Arch and towards the Acropolis. Big difference. Fortunately my wife suggested I try that route. Overall, however, everything else was excellent. Douglas Nickson

The hotel was very well placed, just a short stroll from Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The Acropolis could be seen from the balcony of our room, and again was just a short walk away. The Acropolis Metro station is about a 5 minute walk in the same direction as the Acropolis. There are an abundance of good restaurants within about a 2-3 minute walk of the hotel. All in all, it is ideally placed for the major attractions and tourist areas. The room itself was large (executive suite), with a very comfortable bed and good pillows. The bathroom was spotless and very plush, although without a bath, just a shower.

The staff at Ava is tremendous. Eleni was the staff member that checked us in and was so very helpful in recommending restaurants and things to do in the area. We truly felt welcomed at Ava and our hosts were so gracious to us while we stayed there on our honeymoon. This is a great hotel and once the roof bar and pool is complete it will be even better to have the view of the Acropolis and Zeus' Temple from the roof. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to stay in the vicinity of the Plaka.

We absolutely loved Plaka (the region of Athens where this hotel is located) and we loved this hotel. The rooms were extremely clean and nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location cannot be beat. It is in walking distance of the acropolis and the temple of zeus and many many wonderful restaurants. The only complaint I would have about the hotel is the fact that they charge 10 euro for the continental breakfast. I wouldn't advise dropping the money for this because we found a few restaurants nearby the served amazing breakfast (wonderful omelets, yogurt with honey, fresh-squeezed OJ) for much less. I would highly recommend visiting Athens and the AVA Hotel is the place to stay!

AVA Hotel is a great value deal. Apart from its reasonable prices, the best points are its location just off the historic Plaka district (which means that almost everything of interest is within walking distance, including the Acropolis and Agora), its friendly and very helpful staff and its spacious and very functional rooms. This modern boutique hotel also offers complimentary ADSL Internet access, which is great for business travellers -- so bring your laptops if you plan on using the Internet a lot. Also, if you can, get a deluxe room as these are wonderfully finished, spacious and very comfortable. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good and centrally located hotel.

Best experience of any hotel we had in Europe! Staff was extremely friendly. When we return we will stay again.

Good hotel but certainly expensive and a little below what one could expect after reading the internet's recommandations. No reason however to leave this hotel once booked-in. But probably would try another one for the next visit.

The AVA hotel is situated in a quiet street connecting the temple of the Olympic Zeus and the foot of the Acropolis. The Plaka with it's many restaurants and shops is just around the corner. The spatious rooms are equipped with kitchenette and refrigerator. We will recommend the hotel to our friends and collaegues!

It was a perfect location for us. The hotel, being newly renovated was wonderful. I would highly recommend this property to all. The staff is outstanding, knowlegable and friendly. The mini kitchen in the room was very useful, we could make tea or coffee and have cold bottled water on hand and keep food items cold that we purchased from small markets..which helped keep the foodn costs down...restaurants were very expensive in Athens.

The AVA was a great place to stay while in Athens. It was within walking distance to the Plaka, Syntagma Square, the Acropolis, etc. Everyone was extremely helpful and pleasant. The only problem we had was that the phones were out of order for several days. This was a great place to stay!! I'll stay there again when I go back to Greece.

Spacious rooms with kitchenette, new and clean. Had sufficient furnishings and even internet facility (LAN connector in room). Located at the foot of the Pantheon and close to many restaurants and shops, but being a street off the main busy area made it very quiet. Noise did not disturb any sleep. Were provided with hospitable information. Probably one of the best places you can find in Athens for what you pay.

For once the reality is even better than the pictures! The AVA has everything in its favour. With the new metro service from the airport, and the nearest metrostation only a few minutes from the hotel, arriving in the centre of Athens was easy. We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and luxuriousness of the family suite (large enough for us and two teenagers), the veranda with its excellent views and the location of the hotel. It is within walking distance of all the major historical sites and located in the lovely Plaka area with its absence of traffic. The personnel were extremely helpful and friendly, gave us valuable advice on what to see, where to go, on transport etc (also by way of a handy brochure in the room) and assisted us in booking day trips out of town. The service was professional without the haughtiness one sometimes find in hotels of this quality. We will definately stay there again on a visit to Athens and can recommend the hotel without any hesitation.

What a gem of a hotel/apartment! From the friendly and helpful front desk staff of Maria,Eleni,George and the others,to the spacious, updated sparkling-clean rooms,to the fabulous location in the Plaka (with a great view of the Acropolis from the balcony and within walking distance to all of the major sites),this is a first-rate property at a reasonable rate. The peronalized service we received made us feel like we were the only ones staying there. AVA is the place to stay in Athens!

Hotel staff welcoming and competent. The breakfast was of apallingly low quality, given the price of the room. Reasonable breakfasts can be obtained in Plaka. I had some difficulty sending emails, but the staff were able to fix it by contacting the ISP. They should by now have written into their hand book that the outgoing mail server is smtp.vivodinet.gr.

This was a great stay, except that the 2 full beds that we requested were 2 single beds push together. This did not allow for up to 6 people to sleep. Our daughter had to sleep on the pull out couch.

The AVA was a wonderful place to stay in Athens. It was clean, quiet, modern and comfortable for my family. The kitchenette was useful and the computer DSL line worked perfectly. The bathroom was the cleanest one I have been in, and the shower had good water pressure. The fantastic location in the Plaka is also a benefit, with everything within walking distance. We usually stay 5 stars... and I felt like this was five stars without the five star price. Everyone was very helpful for even the smallest things, day or night. This Hotel and staff made my Athens trip with my family better than I ever expected!

My wife and I have traveled quite a bit in Europe. This hotel is was one of the best we have stayed in... especially good value. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms aesthetically beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful. I needed an electrical adapter and the found one for me immediately. When I left, I offered to buy it. Instead they gave it to me free of charge. The location of the is hotel great... right in the Plaka! Plus it was only a few blocks from the restaurant we liked best while there... The Bysantano. When I go back to Athens I will stay here. Another bonus for us... we are not Greek Orthodox, but there is wonderful (large) Evangelical church across the street. Thanks for everything AVA.

Very convenient hotel to do business in Athens during the day, have a quick tour of Athens best ancient monuments in the afternoon and enjoy a nice Greek traditional diner (outdoors) in the famous streets of Plaka. All in one day and all within walking distance!! Spacious apartments. Extremely clean/friendly hotel!

We are a couple living in Paris and generally demand a lot of a hotel and Ava did not disapppoint us. The hotel is beautifully located below the Acropolis. All important attractions within walking distance. The rooms are large and nice and there is a friendly atmosphere. I really recommend it!

This is a newly rennovated hotel, that is still in the process of rennovation. The rooms are large and spotless. It is extremely well located at the base of Plaka just down the street from Hadrian's arch. The breakfasts were marginal at best. The conseierge was whoever was behind the front desk at the time so the service varied a lot. All in all, I'd say it's not quite ready for Prime Time.
