Cleanliness: quite okay, despite there are sometimes stains on the carpets and some of the furniture may be a bit worn out. No major concern about cleanliness though. Welcoming / staff kindness: as far as I read in other reviews Greek staff in general ranges from rude (mostly?) to mildly friendly. In this hotel it fortunately was towards the nicer end. Quietness: as others said, despite being on a busy avenue it's perfectly silent in the rooms. Spaciousness of the rooms: the standard room is really small and its toilet/bath has no space at all (while you take a shower you get wrapped by the curtain). On the other hand we were awarded an upgrade in our children's room and that one was really good. Public areas: large breakfast room, business corner has only one computer, reception is okay. Competence of staff: we didn't have many requests but all we need was promptly answered. Quality of service: breakfast was included in our booking and it was a really good one. Surroundings: extremely well located next to Syntagma / Parliament. You can walk to Ermou shopping street, Plaka, Temple of Zeus, Acropolis (a bit further, but it's a nice walk). From the balcony of the upgraded room we could see the New Year's fireworks (set in front of the Parliament) from a privileged position. Don't stay in hotels near Omonia, it's a really creepy area. About Athens: You can see all what is interesting in Athens in two days. Apart from the wonderful historical sites and museums, the city itself doesn't have much else to offer. Then if staying longer take day trips to the surroundings or go to visit some islands!

The hotel is in a great location, across from Parliament and Gardens, next to Syntagma Square, very close to Plaka, and 10 minute walk to new Acropolis Museum which is a must! Staff was the worst... no hello, no thank you, couldn't even help make a restaurant reservation... not helpful or courteous at all... It is unfortunate as the hotel is really nice and well situated!

Since we were new to Athens and were only there for a couple of days, the Amalia location was excellent. It is a first rate hotel.

Good hotel, good location. Only minutes walk from Plaka. We had a very good sized room with balcony on the 6th floor overlooking Lykabitos Hill (take a taxi to the train on a clear day to enjoy the views from Athens highest point and maybe lunch in the restaurant - walk back down the stairs just opposite the train station and you'll pass 19th century Athens and many museums) and the parliament (tomb of the unknown soldier). Excellent bathroom. Roof terrace also overlooks Acropolis. Amalia avenue is busy but once inside the hotel hardly noticed. Also close to the botanical gardens (across the street). Only minus: a christening party on the roof terrace when we wanted to go to bed on the night before we left. Quite noisy but the manager did invite us to join for dessert or fruit. The music (mostly) ended at midnight as promised by staff. They should have left moving the furniture until morning though....

This hotel was very well located close to Syntagma Square and the old town. The room was modern, clean and comfortable and quite spacious; rooms on the front overlook a busy road though. Staff were helpful. Only criticism that breakfast was exorbitantly expensive.

Was there just for a short night and a nice sleep. The hotel reception was a bit "cold" but helpful anyway. The room is small, but the hotel is close to the real centre and really enjoyed the location and rooms are really clean and well maintained.

Great location We had a great room facing the street, but high enough, 4th and 5th floor, to avoid street noise. Stayed there end of Sept and Oct 30th, before and after a cruise. Would definately recommend especially for the location

Good hotel, excellent location walking distance to most of the main attractions within the city. The hotel was clean and comfortable although the breakfast was rather expensive better to buy it at any number of the kiosks or coffee shops in the surounding area. No complaints i would definately stay here again!

Great location! really close to shopping and the acropilis. Really easy to reach by metro. If you are only staying in Athens for a few days, this is a great place. Unfortunate that breakfast is not included, but many bakeries and places to get breakfast for cheap!

We stayed only an overnight. The hotel has been completely renovated a year ago (2007). Its location is at Athens center (Overlooking the Parliament building ). It is very reasonably priced. The hotel stuff has been very friendly, helpful and caring. Our room was spacious and quiet because of its windows double galsses, with a very nice bath room. Breakfast was very nice with a wide variety of fresh & tasty food. We warmly recommend this hotel.

This is the best hotel I've stayed in in Athens! And I've stayed in a few.... And the next time I'm going to Athens I will check this first to see if they are available, 'cause this was just perfect! The staff were friendly, professional and service-minded, the room was as I should have furbished it myself and there was a bathtub! And all kinds of details were seen to, fresh flowers, marking for blind people in the elevator, all kinds of little things that you might need in the bathroom... the only thing I could think of to complain about was that the breakfast was 20 euros and not included. But I just went to a neighbouring café and ate myself stupid for half the price. Oh, and I got a room with a view to the ugly backyard. But everything else was so perfect that I didn't mind that!

Great location, very close to Plaka and other sites. Clean, spacious rooms. Bar area empty and did not offer room service even though they advertise it and have a menu in the room! Has recently been renovated and is still adjusting....

rooms are clean and modern, bathroom was also very new. but hotel amenities are very poor and in a town as athens would also benefit from a pool. also, rate should include breakfast.

Hotels of this quality should offer free wifi in all rooms. Prices paid for internet access were expensive and even were most expensive than quoted on web sites, this was disappointing given the rest of the good service received.
