This was a delightful little hotel right around the corner from Santa Maria deli Angeli basilica. The couple who run this hotel are very very kind and helpful. Although she says her English is not very good, I was actually quite impressed and my wife and I enjoyed our conversation with her. She even recommended a fantastic restaurant filled with locals that was about a 10 minute walk away from the hotel. For our one night in Assisi, this hotel was an incredible value for the price. The rooms were very spacious and had a little bit of an echo and somewhat thin walls, but overall we were impressed. I would recommend getting directions from the train station before you go. It can be a little difficult to find. Also, if you're staying multiple days, keep in mind that you'll have to take the bus up and down the hill to get to Assisi proper. That shouldn't be a big deal as the bus runs quite frequently and into the night, but it's something to be aware of. Enjoy your stay!

This little hotel was wonderful. The staff were awesome and friendly. Around the corner is the bus stop which was convenient to reach Assisi. This was one of our favorite towns. However, not to be missed is this town of Santa Maria degli Angeli. This small town has a magnificient church with one of the original St. Francis' chapels. There is also a terrific little pizza place near the hotel which one can buy the pizza by the slice and mingle with the locals.

This is a great little hotel. Rooms are very clean and breakfast was one of the better ones in Italy. If you have a car, leave it at the hotel when visiting Assisi, the bus stop is next door to the hotel.

This a gem of a hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable (Additionally, we were lucky enough to get one of the rooms with a terrace.) The breakfast was the best that we had in our fortnight in Italy. There was a wide range of options from cereal to pastries - including chocolate cake!

I'm a year overdue on posting this review, but wanted to confirm that this hotel is as wonderful as most other reviews say it is! I stayed here in July 2007, and was very, very happy with my stay. I got great value for the price. The staff are very friendly and professional (though, as others have mentioned, their English is very limited: be prepared to consult your handy phrase book, use sign language, etc.!). My room was very large, bright, and airy, with good air conditioning. The shower was a bit small, but better than some others I have had in Europe. Breakfast was a very generous "continental," with juices, bread, rolls, cheese and meat, etc. I never left hungry! They make excellent cappuccino to-order ... and sometimes put a "happy face" of cocoa powder on the froth! Santa Maria degli Angeli is a "suburb" of Assisi. If you come to Assisi by train, this is where you will arrive, and you can walk to the hotel from the train station: I recommend downloading some maps or checking other reviews for directions. A regular bus service takes you up to the old city. Buy tickets from one of the news kiosks in the area. It is much cheaper than paying cash. I liked not staying right in the old walled city, since I could "decompress" each day after all of my pilgrimage activities. The town is "modern" with many places to find decend food at reasonable prices ... and the gelaterie on the square across the road from the basillica are very good! Staying in Santa Maria degli Angeli gives you a chance to start your "St. Francis Experience" by visiting the place where he founded his community and where he died, the Porziuncola enshrined within the basilica of Sant Maria degli Angeli. This is a place to come and enjoy quiet and "breath" the air of deep religious devotion. Even if you aren't Catholic (and especially if you are!), don't miss the Saturday evening public Rosary service, followed by a procession with an illuminated statue of the Blessed Virgin.

Very good relationship price / quality. Room was spacious and clean, bathroom very nice. Easy acess to Assisi (bus) as well as quiet neighbourhood. Breakfast good for non-europeans and staff very helpful. If you do not want to stay overnight inside the walls, this is the place. Definitely recommend.

This was the second time we stayed at this hotel and it lived up to our high expectations. Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms with beautifully decorated ceilings, delicious Italian breakfast with various pastries, fruit juices, and the famous cappuccino. Situated just a few km from Assisi and "il Paradiso", a nice family run restaurant. (ask the hotel for directions). We can highly recommend this hotel.

location very fine when coming by car. Situated in a small village outside the centro storico with excellent bus connection taking 10 min + to the main places. we were surprised that the hotel was not in Assisi itself but when seeing that it is very difficult both to drive and to park in the center, this hotel was very convenient.

In our opinion, Villa Raffaello Park Hotel is the best hotel we have stayed in Italy. It was our first trip to Santa Maria degli Angeli and we chose this hotel because of it's proximity to Assisi. A short bus trip form the bus stop about 50 metres from the hotel takes you right to Assisi for a few Euros. The hotel was quite easy to find, thanks to some of the reviews on Venere. Rooms are large, spotlessly clean and well fitted and the welcome basket of fresh fruit was a nice touch. Staff were extremely friendly and efficient and went out of their way to provide to be of assistance and to provide us with information. The breakfast was excellent. In all, a memorable experience and we would not hesitate in returning or recommending the hotel to friends.

On a recent three week trip to Egypt and Italy this was by far the best hotel we stayed in and one of the least expensive. The staff was welcoming, helpful and the hotel was beautifully decorated and amazingly clean. Assisi is a fantastic town--and a spiritually uplifting locale. Take time to spend several days here. We congratulate the young owner on his extraordinary service and accommodations.

Amazing value in Italy. This was a very nice place run by great people. Our room had a terrace overlooking the grounds which was the perfect place to start and end the day. The B&B was a 10 minute bus ride to Assisi and a great alternative to staying in Assisi proper. The manager also recommended a restaurant in Saint Angeli called La Basilica which is a must. Great meal at a great price.

Our host and his employees were most welcoming and we were very pleased that this delightful small hotel which has only been open 2 years certainly lived up to our expectations and we thoroughly enjoyed the excellent breakfast on offer. The hotel is central and within walking distance for the shuttle bus to Assisi the Cathedral and the many shops and restaurants. The Villa Raffaello Park Hotel is a true bargain. The rooms are large and spacious and the hotel staff is extremely friendly and competent. The breakfast is very substantial with many fresh pastries and fruit. The only downside is that the rooms are not well insulated so that you can hear noises from the other rooms. But this was only a modest inconvenience.

Would definitely stay here again. Just a short walk from the train station (albeit in the opposite direction of Assisi), but just outside the city. A WONDERFUL place to stay: the staff was REALLY welcoming (we came back from our day in Assisi to a lovely fruit basket and note from the staff -- that didn't happen anywhere else in all of Europe), great breakfast, and excellent accommodations (I think it's only 2 stars because there's no elevator, but that's not a big deal in this smaller place). Definitely one of the nicest places we stayed in ALL of Europe. If you're willing to stay outside of Assisi (there are lots of bus routes into the city and it's about a half hour walk into the city or so), I'd recommend this place to you.

I think Francesco is running a great hotel. All of the people on his staff are friendly and professional as well. He has great recommendations for dining and gives helpful advice. Breakfasts were terrific, special because of the smiley face he puts on the cappucinos. There need to be better and more specific directions for finding the hotel.

Wish we had realized ahead of time that the hotel was near bus service to Assisi so that we would have parked at the hotel and then taken the bus into the historic areas of Assisi rather than finding our own paid parking in Assisi. The hotel staff had a great nearby suggestion for dinner at a pizzeria/trattoria within easy walking of the hotel and near the bascilica. The breakfast was very nice.

We were traveling thru Italy on a 3 week trip. The Rafaello Hotel was very nice!!! The staff were extremely helpful in that we thought we had left a camera at a restaraunt. The next morning the man at the desk called the restaurant for us talking with the restaurant owner trying to locate the camera. Having arrived to Assisi by bus, we did not realize that the hotel is not located in the sightseeing part of town. The location is given in relation to the train station. Explicit directions to the hotel would be helpful on the site. We spent quite a long time trying to locate the hotel in the wrong part of town. It wasn't until we found a tourinst info booth that we discovered this.

We arrived by train in Assisi by train. We didn't realize that the hotel was about a 10 -15 minute walk, so we took a short cab ride. The welcome was good but not so for the English, however we got along. What a lovely location and Assisi is just beautiful. We got a very large room. When we saw the breakfast the next day, we said we should have stayed two nights - what a spread. The best we said in Italy but unfortunately we had to run to catch the train for Venice. I would suggest that you spent at two nights here as Assisi is truly amazing. Definitely, definitely stay here. You will not be disappointed.

I was very pleased with this hotel. The man at the front desk was very kind and helpful. This hotel was one of the best hotels that we stayed at in all of Italy. There are several helpful hints that I could offer. One is the walk to the hotel from the train station. It is a solid 10 minute walk from the train station, however, we felt very safe during our walk. It did give us a chance to see another part of Assisi. You may want to refer to Geer Dominique's Review that he left on July 31, 2006 on this website. His directions describe almost perfectly how to get to the hotel. (Just one clarification in his directions-the church that he is referring to in his directions is the Santa Claira church-It is the one that St. Francis died in. It is not the main St. Francis church.) One other tip - how to get to the the church of St. Francis. After checking into your hotel, walk back to the train station. Once at the train station, we made the mistake of taking a taxi to the St. Francis church. It is only about 2 miles away and we paid 10 Euros. I would recommend to just take the bus. It is the Bus Line C(I think-so you may want to double check). There is a little bus map at the bus stop sign post that describes which direction the bus is going. To buy a bus ticket just go into the train station to the little magazine shop and the guy behind the counter sells the bus tickets. I think they only cost 1 Euro. I cannot remember if you need to validate the ticket or not. The bus runs at least every half an hour and takes you right to the church. When you want to buy a bus ticket to come back from the St. Francis church there is another souvenir store close to that bus stop that sells the bus tickets. Overall, we always felt very safe in this fine, small city so wherever you go (even if you do get lost a little), you get to take in some nice sightseeing.

What a delightful surprize this place was. Very modern and comfortable. Spotless. Handy parking lot. NOT in Assisi, but an easy and handy 10 minute bus ride away. Highly recommend.

This hotel was a wonderful surprise. It is only rated as a 2 star but it was much better than other 3 and 4 star hotels in which we stayed in Italy and Sicily. The 2 star rating may be because of the lack of an elevator or restaurant but that did not bother us. The location was very convenient and easy to find. The auto access and parking was much easier than the hotels located in Assisi proper. It is within easy walking distance of the main Basilica in Santa Maria degli Angeli. It is also close to local bus service to Assisi where parking is difficult. The hotel itself is in an older building which has been tastefully refurbished.. The breakfast was wonderful by Italian standards, best of our trip. This hotel is a great bargain particulary for two or more nights off season.

Despite the fact the rooms were not as quiet as hoped this didn't disturb us much for the one night we stayed in the hotel. The reception at the hotel was most friendly, we were given a map of Assisi, were pointed to highlights and got tips for dinner. The breakfast was remarkable for a two star hotel of this size. A buffet where one was absolutely spoiled for choice. Best breakfast of our entire fortnight in Italy.

We had a very pleasant stay for 2 nights in mid-July. The lady and the gentleman (owners?) at the reception were very nice and helpful. The hotel was undergoing some upgrades (A/C in the rooms...very clean work) and, just because I had noticed the work, but without even asking, we were given an oscillating fan in the room. BTW, the room was big, especially by European standards. The breakfast was good and served in a very nice dining room. The hotel is not close to Assisi, meaning one cannot just walk to the medieval city...at least we couldn't...But we had a car so this was a non-issue for us. I would gladly stay again at this hotel and I would recomend it wholeheartedly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The attention to detail on the part of the host and hostess is wonderful. The breakfast was extraordinary - lots of beautiful baked goods, and a very nice breakfast room. There is a very nice park area surrounding the hotel which I used every evening for reading, etc. The only drawback I can list for this hotel is that there is quite a bit of night-time street noise. When we were there, they were in the process of hooking up a/c, and as it wasn't connected in our room yet, we slept with the windows open. Lots of vehicle noise. The A/C will probably take care of that, but you might want to request a room at the back of the hotel, just for good measure. Also, the directions on the website to get there from the train station really didn't help get you there. It is about a 10 minute walk - head toward the cathedral from the station, pass the cathedral, and then bear right at the traffic circle. It will be the first street on the left - there is a parking area for tour busses on the corner. The shuttle bus up into Assisi is easy and pleasant.

We were quite pleased with Villa Raffaelo and quite impressed with the quality of the rooms, the breakfast and the service! The price was fantastic. I spoke to other guests and they agreed that it was the nicest place they had stayed in while traveling all over Italy. The staff was very nice, very accomodating and very welcoming. The rooms were beautifully decorated! Wish we could have stayed longer!

Questo hotel e in realta' un piccolo quattro stelle in incognito, e semplicemente stupendo e la camera con vista sul parco e una suite. Il servizio e la colazione sono ineccepibili. IS VERY VERY NICE HOTEL

I stayed here with my Mother and disabled brother and we were very well looked after and made to feel very welcome. The staff here are lovely friendly people and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. They provided a very good breakfast not just coffee and bun. In addition, the location is perfect for access to buses that make the short run up the hill to Assisi proper. We had a wonderful relaxed time staying at this hotel.

The Hotel/Bed and Breakfast was an excellant value for the money. The walk to the train station took about 10 min. Assisi was easily reached by frequent buses. The breakfast was subperb.

The room was larger than we expected. Nice wooden floors, and big windows. Lovely view of Assisi from one of our windows. The private bathroom was roomy, the closet space was roomy, and the pillows soft. The breakfast, included in the price of the room -- a mere 65 Euro total -- was huge, and delicious. Cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, cold cereals, a variety of coffeecakes and pastries, good selection of teas, and espresso. Parking is free, and the hotel is quiet in the evenings. (In the afternoon, you can hear the rumble of tour bus engines as plenty of pilgrims come to the church.) 10 minutes walking distance from the Santa Maria degli Angeli church, where St Francis of Assisi died. And by the church are cafes, gelateries, and pizza places. In theory, you could walk to the main basilica of Assisi from this hotel; however, it is about 5 KM (3 miles) away, which is a 45-60 minute walk.

a bit far from the train station particularly when we were going their with luggages while it was raining. But the breakfast and servcie were great. Value for money. The closest bus stop for Assis is about 5-10 minutes walk.

the staff were very helpful and the room was great, we had a large terrace off our room but the weather did not allow it's use. Street is a little busy. We would definitely return and have recomended this hotel to my friends
