Great family owned hotel to visit Assisi and area towns. Rooms are large and clean. Air conditioning works very well compared to European standards. If staying for an extended, ask for one of the 2 rooms with a large verandah that looks onto the garden. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was very good. Next to buses to get to Assisi which is recommended. About a 5 to 10 walk to restaurants.

This place is set in a quiet location in its own park with trees down on the plain within walking distance of the church with the Porziuncola. It is a five minutes drive from the old town of Assisi up on the hill. Thus it is very good for pilgrims visiting the places of Saint Francis of Assisi. The hosts are very helpful and friendly, and it always makes a good impression if you know a few phrases in Italian. We have been back to stay at this place a second time now. Note that the weather can be rather hot in the months of high summer.

Excellent small hotel of 15 rooms. building stands alone on a large property surrounded by trees. 5 minute walk to shops, restuarants and St Francis Cathedral. lovely family business,, very hospitable and helpful advice always. Only issue we had was size of shower...barely room to move, although rest of bathroom adequate. We had balcony room, very nice indeed. we would return here.

We LOVED this hotel. At first we were disappointed not to be in the hill town of Assisi. But buses are easy and the town of Santa Angeli more relaxing. TERRIFIC restaurant rec from Hotel(Trattoria Santucci). Hotel and restaurant were a super value.

This hotel was outstanding! The staff were so welcoming, warm and friendly and gave us great directions to Assisi and terrific restaurant recommendations. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was the best I had in Italy! I will definitely stay here again.

This is a "5 star", 2 star family hotel, probably one of the best hotels we have used in Italy. The rooms are huge by italian standards with rooms 21 and 24 having balconies 20 foot square. TV and well stocked fridge. Great as base for exploring the area. We will return to this area and this will be our hotel of choice.

A really wonderful little hotel within walking distance of restaurants, buses, large car park and close to all the local "idyllic" villages. Easy access to Assisi, Gubbio etc. Highly recommended to all - ask for a balcony room, they are superb with full outside lounge suite and fantastically spacious.

We liked our stay at Villa Raffaello Park Hotel very much. It is located near Assisi, about ten minutes with a car. It is a family Hotel and I could feel it as soon as we enterd the spacious parking lot. Even if there is no elevator, we were helped with the luggage. The room was lovely, clean and cosy. The owners friendly and willing to help. I might start with Oriana , who made it clear she wished to answer my questions, even if she doesn't speake English fluently. And she really did help as much as she could. Or, when it appeared that there was a difficuly using the wireless internet, Luk, her brother in law, made it his buisness to solve it. We would like to recommend Villa Raffaello Park Hotel.

This was my favorite hotel during a 3 week trip to Italy. The staff was exceptional--friendly, welcoming, helpful (esp. with restaurant recommendations!); the room gloriously spacious. The main attractions in Assisi are a short bus ride away, but do not let that deter you from staying in this beautiful hotel! Would stay here again for sure!

What an absolute joy to stay at Villa Raffaello Park Hotel. The warm and friendly greeting by Tamara and Luca was so reassuring for two Australians who had travelled so far. I cried on the day we left. The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of Assisi, yet just a short bus trip to Assisi itself. The local knowledge and information given to us by Tamara and Luca from bus, train, shopping and travel to laundromat, was invaluable. Having breakfast each morning was like being with your own family. All of us did our best with our Italian and English languages, great fun!! I would highly recommend Villa Rafaello Park to anyone, and have done so with my friends here since returning to Australia a week ago. We spent five most wonderful and enjoyable days there and would do it all over again tomorrow if I could. Tamara and Luca were the highlight of our European trip through five countries.

We had stayed here 3 years ago for 3 days, only for the fact that it was central to all other smaller historic Umbrian towns. We were so overwhelmed with the historic villa, on our return this year we booked it for 7 days, one being our 31st anniversary, and in the end were sad to leave. The cleanliness, friendliness and beautiful surroundings of Villa Raffaello are sure to entice us there again. Thank you Tamara & Luca

Perfect location, very near public transport to Assisi... almost a private 'park and ride' service! Plenty of shops and restaurants close by. Very quiet... not on a main road. Breakfast very good although breakfast room rather cramped when the hotel was full. Staff very helpful, polite and professional but also friendly and personal. Extremely good quality for the price: towels changed daily! The bedrooms are much larger than they appear in the photos. Given half a chance, we'll be back!

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely hotel in Assisi. Our hosts could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Large free parking area in the grounds of the hotel which is a short walk from the lower town and buses to the old town. Bus trip only takes 15 mins. We highly recommend this hotel.

This was a delightful little hotel right around the corner from Santa Maria deli Angeli basilica. The couple who run this hotel are very very kind and helpful. Although she says her English is not very good, I was actually quite impressed and my wife and I enjoyed our conversation with her. She even recommended a fantastic restaurant filled with locals that was about a 10 minute walk away from the hotel. For our one night in Assisi, this hotel was an incredible value for the price. The rooms were very spacious and had a little bit of an echo and somewhat thin walls, but overall we were impressed. I would recommend getting directions from the train station before you go. It can be a little difficult to find. Also, if you're staying multiple days, keep in mind that you'll have to take the bus up and down the hill to get to Assisi proper. That shouldn't be a big deal as the bus runs quite frequently and into the night, but it's something to be aware of. Enjoy your stay!

This little hotel was wonderful. The staff were awesome and friendly. Around the corner is the bus stop which was convenient to reach Assisi. This was one of our favorite towns. However, not to be missed is this town of Santa Maria degli Angeli. This small town has a magnificient church with one of the original St. Francis' chapels. There is also a terrific little pizza place near the hotel which one can buy the pizza by the slice and mingle with the locals.

This a gem of a hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable (Additionally, we were lucky enough to get one of the rooms with a terrace.) I'm a year overdue on posting this review, but wanted to confirm that this hotel is as wonderful as most other reviews say it is! I stayed here in July 2007, and was very, very happy with my stay. I got great value for the price. The staff are very friendly and professional (though, as others have mentioned, their English is very limited: be prepared to consult your handy phrase book, use sign language, etc.!). My room was very large, bright, and airy, with good air conditioning. The shower was a bit small, but better than some others I have had in Europe. Breakfast was a very generous "continental," with juices, bread, rolls, cheese and meat, etc. I never left hungry! They make excellent cappuccino to-order ... and sometimes put a "happy face" of cocoa powder on the froth! Santa Maria degli Angeli is a "suburb" of Assisi. If you come to Assisi by train, this is where you will arrive, and you can walk to the hotel from the train station: I recommend downloading some maps or checking other reviews for directions. A regular bus service takes you up to the old city. Buy tickets from one of the news kiosks in the area. It is much cheaper than paying cash. I liked not staying right in the old walled city, since I could "decompress" each day after all of my pilgrimage activities. The town is "modern" with many places to find decend food at reasonable prices ... and the gelaterie on the square across the road from the basillica are very good! Staying in Santa Maria degli Angeli gives you a chance to start your "St. Francis Experience" by visiting the place where he founded his community and where he died, the Porziuncola enshrined within the basilica of Sant Maria degli Angeli. This is a place to come and enjoy quiet and "breath" the air of deep religious devotion. Even if you aren't Catholic (and especially if you are!), don't miss the Saturday evening public Rosary service, followed by a procession with an illuminated statue of the Blessed Virgin.

This was the second time we stayed at this hotel and it lived up to our high expectations. Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms with beautifully decorated ceilings, delicious Italian breakfast with various pastries, fruit juices, and the famous cappuccino. Situated just a few km from Assisi and "il Paradiso", a nice family run restaurant. (ask the hotel for directions). We can highly recommend this hotel.

Location very fine when coming by car. Situated in a small village outside the centro storico with excellent bus connection taking 10 min + to the main places. we were surprised that the hotel was not in Assisi itself but when seeing that it is very difficult both to drive and to park in the center, this hotel was very convenient.

In our opinion, Villa Raffaello Park Hotel is the best hotel we have stayed in Italy. It was our first trip to Santa Maria degli Angeli and we chose this hotel because of it's proximity to Assisi. A short bus trip form the bus stop about 50 metres from the hotel takes you right to Assisi for a few Euros. The hotel was quite easy to find, thanks to some of the reviews on Venere. Rooms are large, spotlessly clean and well fitted and the welcome basket of fresh fruit was a nice touch. Staff were extremely friendly and efficient and went out of their way to provide to be of assistance and to provide us with information. The breakfast was excellent. In all, a memorable experience and we would not hesitate in returning or recommending the hotel to friends.

On a recent three week trip to Egypt and Italy this was by far the best hotel we stayed in and one of the least expensive. The staff was welcoming, helpful and the hotel was beautifully decorated and amazingly clean. Assisi is a fantastic town--and a spiritually uplifting locale. Take time to spend several days here. We congratulate the young owner on his extraordinary service and accommodations.

Amazing value in Italy. This was a very nice place run by great people. Our room had a terrace overlooking the grounds which was the perfect place to start and end the day. The Villa Raffaello Park Hotel is a true bargain. The rooms are large and spacious and the hotel staff is extremely friendly and competent. Would definitely stay here again. Just a short walk from the train station (albeit in the opposite direction of Assisi), but just outside the city. A WONDERFUL place to stay: the staff was REALLY welcoming (we came back from our day in Assisi to a lovely fruit basket and note from the staff -- that didn't happen anywhere else in all of Europe), great breakfast, and excellent accommodations (I think it's only 2 stars because there's no elevator, but that's not a big deal in this smaller place). Definitely one of the nicest places we stayed in ALL of Europe. If you're willing to stay outside of Assisi (there are lots of bus routes into the city and it's about a half hour walk into the city or so), I'd recommend this place to you.

Wish we had realized ahead of time that the hotel was near bus service to Assisi so that we would have parked at the hotel and then taken the bus into the historic areas of Assisi rather than finding our own paid parking in Assisi. The hotel staff had a great nearby suggestion for dinner at a pizzeria/trattoria within easy walking of the hotel and near the bascilica. The breakfast was very nice.

We were traveling thru Italy on a 3 week trip. The Rafaello Hotel was very nice!!! The staff were extremely helpful in that we thought we had left a camera at a restaraunt. The next morning the man at the desk called the restaurant for us talking with the restaurant owner trying to locate the camera. Having arrived to Assisi by bus, we did not realize that the hotel is not located in the sightseeing part of town. The location is given in relation to the train station. Explicit directions to the hotel would be helpful on the site. We spent quite a long time trying to locate the hotel in the wrong part of town. It wasn't until we found a tourinst info booth that we discovered this.

We arrived by train in Assisi by train. We didn't realize that the hotel was about a 10 -15 minute walk, so we took a short cab ride. The welcome was good but not so for the English, however we got along. What a lovely location and Assisi is just beautiful. We got a very large room. When we saw the breakfast the next day, we said we should have stayed two nights - what a spread. The best we said in Italy but unfortunately we had to run to catch the train for Venice. I would suggest that you spent at two nights here as Assisi is truly amazing. Definitely, definitely stay here. You will not be disappointed.

I was very pleased with this hotel. The man at the front desk was very kind and helpful. This hotel was one of the best hotels that we stayed at in all of Italy. There are several helpful hints that I could offer. One is the walk to the hotel from the train station. It is a solid 10 minute walk from the train station, however, we felt very safe during our walk. It did give us a chance to see another part of Assisi. You may want to refer to Geer Dominique's Review that he left on July 31, 2006 on this website. His directions describe almost perfectly how to get to the hotel. (Just one clarification in his directions-the church that he is referring to in his directions is the Santa Claira church-It is the one that St. Francis died in. It is not the main St. Francis church.) One other tip - how to get to the the church of St. Francis. After checking into your hotel, walk back to the train station. Once at the train station, we made the mistake of taking a taxi to the St. Francis church. It is only about 2 miles away and we paid 10 Euros. I would recommend to just take the bus. It is the Bus Line C(I think-so you may want to double check). There is a little bus map at the bus stop sign post that describes which direction the bus is going. To buy a bus ticket just go into the train station to the little magazine shop and the guy behind the counter sells the bus tickets. I think they only cost 1 Euro. I cannot remember if you need to validate the ticket or not. The bus runs at least every half an hour and takes you right to the church. When you want to buy a bus ticket to come back from the St. Francis church there is another souvenir store close to that bus stop that sells the bus tickets. Overall, we always felt very safe in this fine, small city so wherever you go (even if you do get lost a little), you get to take in some nice sightseeing.

Our family (parents traveling with college daughter) enjoyed this property. It was precisely as advertised on the verere website. Breakfast was wonderful, and the friendly staff gave excellent recommendations for local dining. Availability of parking is a plus!

Hotel location is on outskirts of Assisi, which is good for someone travelling by car and needing easy parking. This hotel is unbelievable value for the price, everything is new and in perfect condition and the owners are totally supportive, lovely breakfast and easy access to the highway and the city of assisi.

Hotel stupendo, non vale 2 stelle ma molto di più. L'aspetto più importante, oltre la struttura e la posizione, è l'accoglienza. Personale disponibilissimo. Ci torniamo presto!

What a delightful surprize this place was. Very modern and comfortable. Spotless. Handy parking lot. NOT in Assisi, but an easy and handy 10 minute bus ride away. The huge church nearby, housing Francis' stone meeting house and the site of his death, was very moving and definitely worth a visit. Great breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

My family and I had a great stay. This is a truly excellent hotel for the the price (it was significantly cheaper than its competion in the area). Access to the beautiful old town of Assisi is via an easy 3 km bus ride (frequent services). The hotel is tastefully decorated and in pristine condition.

This hotel was a wonderful surprise. It is only rated as a 2 star but it was much better than other 3 and 4 star hotels in which we stayed in Italy and Sicily. The 2 star rating may be because of the lack of an elevator or restaurant but that did not bother us. The location was very convenient and easy to find. The auto access and parking was much easier than the hotels located in Assisi proper. It is within easy walking distance of the main Basilica in Santa Maria degli Angeli. It is also close to local bus service to Assisi where parking is difficult. The hotel itself is in an older building which has been tastefully refurbished.. The breakfast was wonderful by Italian standards, best of our trip. This hotel is a great bargain particulary for two or more nights off season.

If you are visiting Assisi and the surrounding beautiful area , your stay will be completed by a welcoming and wonderful stay at Villa Raffaello Park Hotel, if you get the chance ask for the room with the terrace overlooking the garden. Everything about this place is enchanting. We had three wonderful days and would go back any time the opportunity arose

Despite the fact the rooms were not as quiet as hoped this didn't disturb us much for the one night we stayed in the hotel. The reception at the hotel was most friendly, we were given a map of Assisi, were pointed to highlights and got tips for dinner. The breakfast was remarkable for a two star hotel of this size. A buffet where one was absolutely spoiled for choice. Best breakfast of our entire fortnight in Italy.

This hotel far exceeded what I expected. The staff, The room, the cost, were excellent and I would recommend this hotel highly. This is by far the best hotel I have stayed in for value, and service anywhere in Italy. We ate at the Ristorante La Basilica near to the hotel and the overall experience was excellent, again recommemded highly.I think the post card I bought of with the view of Assisi was taken from the roof of this hotel

We had a very pleasant stay for 2 nights in mid-July. The lady and the gentleman (owners?) at the reception were very nice and helpful. The hotel was undergoing some upgrades (A/C in the rooms...very clean work) and, just because I had noticed the work, but without even asking, we were given an oscillating fan in the room. BTW, the room was big, especially by European standards. The breakfast was good and served in a very nice dining room. The hotel is not close to Assisi, meaning one cannot just walk to the medieval city...at least we couldn't...But we had a car so this was a non-issue for us. I would gladly stay again at this hotel and I would recomend it wholeheartedly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The attention to detail on the part of the host and hostess is wonderful. The breakfast was extraordinary - lots of beautiful baked goods, and a very nice breakfast room. There is a very nice park area surrounding the hotel which I used every evening for reading, etc. The only drawback I can list for this hotel is that there is quite a bit of night-time street noise. When we were there, they were in the process of hooking up a/c, and as it wasn't connected in our room yet, we slept with the windows open. Lots of vehicle noise. The A/C will probably take care of that, but you might want to request a room at the back of the hotel, just for good measure. Also, the directions on the website to get there from the train station really didn't help get you there. It is about a 10 minute walk - head toward the cathedral from the station, pass the cathedral, and then bear right at the traffic circle. It will be the first street on the left - there is a parking area for tour busses on the corner. The shuttle bus up into Assisi is easy and pleasant.

We spend three nights in this hotel and would certainly recommand it. The staff is very kind and helpful, the rooms are beautifully decorated and while we were staying there airco's were being installed so will increase the comfort of the room even further. Skip breakfast if you are on a weight loss program. There is ample parking space available.

This is a beautiful hotel just outside of Assisi. The only thing is that we did not get directions, but call them before hand or when you are on your way. The couple that runs this hotel are so kind and accomodating. They did everything they could to make us feel welcome not to mention the breakfest was out of this world. Never have I eaten such beautifully prepared food. The walls in all of the rooms have new frescos and they made a beautiful flat screen tv room that is air conditioned. The bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub. It was fabulous.

We were quite pleased with Villa Raffaelo and quite impressed with the quality of the rooms, the breakfast and the service! The price was fantastic. I spoke to other guests and they agreed that it was the nicest place they had stayed in while traveling all over Italy. The staff was very nice, very accomodating and very welcoming. The rooms were beautifully decorated! Wish we could have stayed longer!

I stayed here with my Mother and disabled brother and we were very well looked after and made to feel very welcome. The staff here are lovely friendly people and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. They provided a very good breakfast not just coffee and bun. In addition, the location is perfect for access to buses that make the short run up the hill to Assisi proper. We had a wonderful relaxed time staying at this hotel.

The room was larger than we expected. Nice wooden floors, and big windows. Lovely view of Assisi from one of our windows. The private bathroom was roomy, the closet space was roomy, and the pillows soft. The breakfast, included in the price of the room -- a mere 65 Euro total -- was huge, and delicious. Cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, cold cereals, a variety of coffeecakes and pastries, good selection of teas, and espresso. Parking is free, and the hotel is quiet in the evenings. (In the afternoon, you can hear the rumble of tour bus engines as plenty of pilgrims come to the church.) 10 minutes walking distance from the Santa Maria degli Angeli church, where St Francis of Assisi died. And by the church are cafes, gelateries, and pizza places. In theory, you could walk to the main basilica of Assisi from this hotel; however, it is about 5 KM (3 miles) away, which is a 45-60 minute walk.
