This is our second stay at the Vignola. We will definitely return, first and foremost because the price is right, but also because we really like the location and the service and rooms are fine. The service varies according to who is on duty. The Englishwoman is extremely helpful. In Feb. 2008 she made numerous calls in an attempt to find a restaurant open in the low season. The Italian man who was on duty part of the time in November, while friendly enough, did not offer to call the restaurant we wanted, so we did some hilly and fruitless driving on a very dark night. (You will find some restaurant open in the area, whatever the season.) The elderly woman who appears to be the owner speaks no English and can be very bossy but is also very nice and friendly once she realizes one is going to make every effort to cooperate with her efforts to, for example, keep interior doors closed to save heat. We were dismayed the first night by what seemed to be a family gathering in the reception area, which, unlike last year, was right outside our room. It happened both nights, but the noise never lasted longer than half an hour. The hotel is centrally located in Santa Maria degli Angeli, within walking distance of the Basilica, one of the most important sites associated with St. Francis. One has to drive a short distance to Assisi (maybe a mile, but parking is ample on the periphery there; and staying outside the city beats parking the car on the periphery and dragging luggage to a hotel inside the walls, where driving is really difficult and forbidden in most places. One major drawback. At least in the off seasons, the hotel door is locked. Once we were unable to get anyone to answer the doorbell. Take a cell phone with you and call if you have that problem. Otherwise take what you need when you go out and make plans to go somewhere else for a while if you can't get in, or tell someone at the desk when to expect you back. L'hotel si trova in posizione ottimale per visitare S. Maria degli Angeli ed Assisi, il personale dipendendente è gentile e competente, al contrario dei proprietari che sono solo votati al profitto e senza dare i servizi pattuiti in forma ottimale, per esempio è molto strano trovare in un hotel che si rispetti il servizio di aria condizionata a tempo, nel senso che a un certa ora smette di funzionare, un'assurdità.Per cui meglio, prima di prenotare, chiedere tale servizio in forma full e non a part-time, così si evitano faziosi ed inutili discussioni.

More flexibility With the 2:00 pm check in time would have be nice as our train arrived in Assissi about noon. The owner did let us in early after we waited about 20 minutes on the patio chairs set in front of the hotel. As she was not fluent in English she was not able to process our passport registration, forcing us to leave our passports with her until her regular staff arrived later in the afternoon. She assured us that the "Police no Problemo" in event we were asked to show our identity. The room was spotlessly clean and quiet which we appreciated after trampling the hills of Assissi all day. Unfortunately we were unable to stay for the included breakfast as our train left early, but I am sure it would have been excellent as was our overall impression of this hotel.

Rocation is very nice. Silence and comfort, also there good (tasty and price) Restaurants, and a "Bar" in the near of the Hotel. Room is guite good ambienced, preceiously, beautiful! The Staffs are very friendly, openminded, helpful, heartwarming and... like a real Family!!!

very very good value for money - extremely clean - only noise in evening came from staff talking at front desk but that was the joy of being in Italy and hearing lively conversation! definately had the feel of a privately owned hotel rather than a corporate chain. excellent restaurants in main street but ensure you take a dictionary as tourist translations not avaialable - thank goodness

Coming from the north, leave the A1 motorway at Valdichiana, and merge into the superstrada SS75bis towards Perugia-Assisi.
Coming from Rome, leave the A1 motorway at the Orte exit, take the ss204 to Terni and then the E45 (or SS3bis) in direction of Perugia-Assisi.
