Hotel La Fortezza - Assisi

We enjoed our stay ,excellent breakfast good rooms ,as usual the bath rooms are the size of a closet,we will not recomend this hotel to mature coples,you have to walk up 82 steps to get to the hotel entrance,and half a mile to the parking lot at 10 euros a day .

We were here only one night. Hotel La Fortezza was perfect for us, other than the bed was very hard. Staff were very accomodating, accompanied us to the parking area and carried our luggage back to the hotel (down the very steep stairs!) The hotel is a bit hard to find, a sign at the top of the stairs would be most helpful. The adjoining restaurant is also fantastic, excellent quality food.

This hotel had excellent customer ratings, so our expectations were high. And the hotel certainly deserves excellent ratings! It is in the heart of Cortona, but you need to carry the luggage from the car since the road to the hotel is a staircase. The receptionist went with us to our car, guided us to the parking place, and helped us with the luggage. Spacious room. There is no air conditioning but a large fan in the ceiling. The roof terrace has great wiew of the town, and is open to the guests all day. Breakfast and afternoon tea is served here, and includes lovely cakes. The hotel has only 6 rooms, and is excellent value for money. We can also highly recommend the "la Fortezza" restaurant in the same buildiing. If we return to Assissi, this hotel will be our first choice!

We stayed at the hotel only for one night. It is well situated in the city of Assisi. As it is often the case in hotel located in medieval cities, you have will have to climb a lot of steps to get to the hotel. We were welcome by Stefano who was very nice and helpful. He helped us with our luggages and showed us where the parking was situated. The breakfast was very good and offered a lot of choices, such as croissants, cold cereals,yogourt, cheese.

Getting one's suitcase up the 75 steps leading to the hotel was a challenge. The shower should be outfitted a with a small curtain to avoid flooding the bathroom.

Great location, great breakfast and extras. Staff were very friendly and the hotel was very clean. Fantastic nights sleep although the rooms could do with a little tlc. Would definitely recommend.

This is a small hotel but nice place to stay. It was a bit difficult to find after parking in the public lot. We had to ask directions several times - dragging suitcases up the narrow steep alleys in not recommended. There was nobody on duty at the hotel so we were directed to an office where the manager then took us to the hotel. Our room had a walk-out patio. The bathroom was small and shower just a nozzle in ceiling and drain in floor. The breakfast was good and overall we were pleased with the stay. The price was good for the value.

The location of this historic residence near the center of towne was convenient and a 5-10 minute walk from a pay parking lot. The room was comfortable although the absence of walls for the shower was an interesting experience. A computer was provided for internet access and having breakfast on a terrace was a great way to start the morning.

The staff were fantastic - met us at the designated location, carried our bags and went out of their way to make Assisi a fantastic stay. The manager even walked our travel companions to their hotel. Easily the best hospitality we have encountered on our 3 trips to Italy.

Excellent position with very friendly & helpful staff. As parking is outside the old centre their staff came & met us for the 5 minute walk to the hotel assisting with our luggage. Would happily recommend this hotel.

Great room in a beautiful setting at a bargain price (compared with the rest of Italy). Staff perfect! Even opened up breakfast early for us. We'd return tomorrow if we could!

Breakfast was excellent. Terrass available for breakfast. Two computers available for internet. Difficulty to find the hotel with GPS because indications missing on the street near the totel to find his civic adress (via escalators). Long way to bring luggages to hotel.

Very good value. Excellent location, away from the noise but steps from the central piazza. Excellent Breakfast on the terrace!!! I would have liked to have better instructions for parking nearby listed in the reservation. It was agood excercise to haul the luggage through all the steps but some people might not be able to do so.

All the good will and attention of the staff cannot balance the very difficult access - two rather steep flights of stairs from the Piazza del Comune - the very small rooms and the bathroom without a shower box, that gets flooded everytime you take a bath.

We traveled to Assisi by car and wanted to use La Fortezza as a base and tour Umbria. Our arrival and initial meeting was just great, all was put into place as we were guided towards the carpark, ours for the week. The Hotel surpassed our expectations. The size is perfect, intimate yet not too familiar. The breakfasts and offer of afternoon Tea was all really good... faultless, eating mostly on the roof top with compelling views. Such brilliant value for money. Our room was a great size, with a view over the terracotta roof tiles and the domes and countryside and September mists beyond...Perfecto! The staff were professional delivering a great service with the right attitude... it all helped to make our stay in Assisi just perfect. Bravo la Fortezza.

It was our first time in Assisi and it was perfect, the hotel fortezza was exactly as I saw at internet, quiet, charming, very good ubication. I RECOMENDED THIS PLACE!!

I loved the town of Assisi. The hotel is conveniently located close to the main square of the town. Visitors should be aware that this medieval town has steep steps!!! And so does the approach to the hotel. The hotel provided all comforts that we needed: our bags brought up the steps, internet access, a room on the ground floor, secure access, a generous breakfast on the terrace, travel tickets to the station and reduced entry to sights.

Wonderful location, just up a short flight of stairs from Piazza del Comune in the center of Assisi. Drive directly into the piazza to unload, and the staff will direct you to free parking. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good (great cappuccino) and some of the tables are on the terrace with a great view of the town. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and two laptops in the lobby for guests to use. One negative: no air conditioning, but the ceiling fan in the room helps.

Right in the heart of Assisi. Very good access to all sights. No air conditioning but had ceiling fans. Restaurant at hotel too expensive.

The hotel is a very close to center of Assisi therefore it is a very good to access to points we should see. Unfortunately restaurant La Fortezza was closed because they were on vacations prior to on seasons.

A pleasant, comfortable hotel, although a bit difficult to find as it was set up a flight of stairs from a piazza (was also a bit of an exercise to get our luggage to the hotel from the carpark). The breakfast was good quality and on a fine day it could be eaten on a balcony overlooking Assisi. Having free access to the Internet was very good.

As you can see, La Fortezza is an excellent hotel. We also appreciated the excellent breakfast and the afternoon tea was a very special note we did not find anywhere else in our two months in Italy. This is not the usual three-star hotel, we sincerely recomend this hotel as a 5-star.

Very clean and comfortable hotel. The price includes breakfast and afternoon's tea, mesuem tickets, two bus tickets, audio guide and discount card for resteraunt. What a wonderful place it is!

Our host Stefano, was wonderful. He met us at the bus, answered all questions regarding the area and sights to see AND as we were unable, he carried our luggage for us back to the bus when we were leaving. Other than the steepness of up and down to get to the hotel (which is all of Assisi), I highly recommend this hotel

Location is excellent. Room is quiet but small. Shower could need improvement. The price is exceptional. Very pleasant stay. Would recomment to any budget minded traveller. The staff recommended a restaurant for dinner. We went instead to the Fortezza Restaurant next door. Would not eat at the restaurant next time.

Clean, spacious room for three. Good breakfast with cereal, yogurt, eggs, cheese, cakes,fruit, juice, coffee,tea,milk. Also afternoon tea with cookies and cakes. Nice breakfast room and terrace. Free internet in the lobby.

Nice place in the middle of Assisi. Rooms and breakfast are good, a view from the roof is exellent. The only problem with this hotel is that the girl who looks after it all day long doesn't speak English. But you can phone an English-speaking personal from your room. And note that the restorant "La fortezza" which is connected to the hotel is the best in Assisi.

The hotel is simple and wonderful, Assisi. The staff is kindness and the location is just perfect. Wonderful breakfast and tea time! And they also offer free transfers to the train station.

La Fortezza has an excellent price in an excellent location. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and although they are not visible at all times, they are just a phone call away. Rooms are small, but then all rooms we've had in Assisi are small. Bathroom set up is a bit funky but not a big deal. Breakfast is one of the best we've ever had. This is much more than a 2 star hotel. Check out their restaurant, Trattoria Pallotta, for dinner (don't be confused by the restaurant below the hotel, that's not it) it too is fabulous. We had a wonderful visit to Assisi, enhanced by our stay at La Fortezza.

This was our first visit to Assisi and we loved it! La Fortezza was the best value hotel we stayed at on our entire vacation. We will definitely return. The service was excellent and the facility was perfect for our needs.

La Fortezza was adorable. Everything was great - we especially enjoyed having breakfast on the balcony overlooking the city. Breakfast was excellent, the location was great, everything was wonderful. Our only regret was not staying longer.

This place was great. Assisi is a wonderful town overall. The woman who greeted us showed us the rooms, how to open the gates/doors (very secure), the Computer area - free for use, the breakfast area (it was an AMAZING view). The place was clean, quite, the views were great - we all really liked this hotel.

The shower had no box. The bathroom was all wet every bath.

If you are looking for a clean, quiet, conveniantly loacted hotel in Assisi, this is it. The staff is very nice and accomodating. The rooms are big and the bathroom spacious. There was a laptop in the lobby with free internet. The terrace upstairs has a beautiful view and is where you can eat breakfast. We had the best coffee of our trip here. Would highly recommend to fellow travellers and would stay again should I find myself in Assisi in the future.

Located just off old city center. Wonderful 2 nights here. Nice hotel in a beautiful Medieval town. Very quiet at night.

L'albergo è molto carino, pulito e con un bel terrazzino per la colazione, molto ricca e variata. L'unico neo è il parcheggio un po' distante e nei giorni festivi ad Assisi c'è una gran confusione. A parte ciò tutto ok.

Great location, but a little confusing to find and it would have been nice to know that I shouldn't have gotten off at the first bus stop (the later stops are much closer to the hotel). The only thing I found strange was that there was no shower curtain, so you take a shower standing right next to the toilet (toilet paper can get wet). Other than that, the rooms were large, clean, quiet and simple, but comfortable. The people were extremely helpful, friendly and nice, provided us with a city map and even loaned us a free audio guide of the city. Breakfast was the best we had in Italy with fruit juice, yogurts, cereal, milk, lots of local pastries, bread, salami and cheese. They also have an afternoon tea so you can come back and relax on the patio and enjoy the view. I would definitely recommend this to a friend, and would stay here again if I ever return to Assisi.

Having read reviews on Expedia and Venere,hoped it would be good. It excelled. Will be returning. Only have double beds, no twins,ie 2 seperate beds,which is a problem for same sex couples
