The only comment I would have is that sometimes the rooms that are at the back of the hotel, which have a lovely view over the countryside, can be a bit noisy at night. One of our nights there was a group of British tourists making a fair row at the bar directly below the back of the Berti. This was our second stay at the Berti, and we would go back any time--just a charming experience. The associated restaurant is also much to be recommended.

We recall wonderful food at the nearby restaurant owned by Hotel Bertis proprietors. We were made to feel welcome by friendly courteous staff. The hotel was in a great location near St Peters gate. The many tourist buses arriving early in the morning disturbed our peace. On the other hand we were next to the Post office and an ATM machine.

No one could have a pleasanter hotel in Assisi than this. Close to bus service, quiet and welcoming, it is just a joy. Assisi is a place not to be missed, and the Berti makes a perfect home while you are there.

Although the exterior is charming, the interior is old and tired. Small room, ok bathroom. Breakfast area cold and smelling of cigarettes. Meal at adjacent owner-operated restaurant not good.

This hotel does not disappoint. After 30 years of visiting Italy, we are rarely satisfied with corporate hotels and their usual lack of concern for guests. Hotel Berti restores your faith in the sheer beauty of the family-owned hotel where guests are treated like guests, where help is freely dispensed and where pride of ownership is apparent in every detail.

MY first trip to Assisi and the Berti was the perfect spot, just inside the gate nearest the bus stop from the train station. The owner is a prince of a fellow, serving a simple but tasty breakfast each morning and offering suggestions for the day. Like the bus to Sienna rather than the train. I wish I'd heeded his advise. Assisi was wonderful, made even better by my stay at the Berti.

The Berti was perfect, located right off of the bus stop from the train station. The hotel had a lot of charm and was very close to all the churches and other sights of Assisi. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Parking can be a problem - we arrived as a wedding party was arriving at the church opposite the hotel! The hotel is at the lower end of Assisi next to the bus terminus which means to get anywhere in the town you have to go up! Rooms were clean, small bathroom, typical Italian breakfast.

The Hotel Berti in Assisi is a delightful little jewel just inside one of the town's main old gates. The St. Francis basilica is within easy walking distance (as easy as any walking gets in hilly Assisi), as are shops and restaurants. The breakfasts were fresh, and the choices available were overwhelming. Every afternoon we sat in the hotel's cozy garden with a glass of wine and watched the people walk by. The proprietors were always helpful and charming. We wouldn't stay anywhere else on a return trip to Assisi.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Berti. We arrived in the evening due to our travel schedule, yet Franco was there to greet us with a wonderful, warm smile. The hotel was right around the corner from the Basilica and a lovely walk to the centre of the historic town (the walk was needed - especially after the amazing dinner we had at the restaurant that Franco had recommended). Our room was not that large, but it was beautifully decorated and appointed. You could tell that great pride was taken in how our room was put together. The breakfast the next day was fresh and delicious.

Our room over saw the front of the hotel and the courtyard, so we had a great view. It is an excellent hotel and great location. Franco Berti is super nice and understands more English than he can speak, but we were able to communicate just fine. He is very friendly and this hotel has been in his family for 3 generations. We had a great time there and the price was superb. The bus stop is right outside the wall (just 100 feet away) which is very convenient, located at Porto San Pietro. Make sure you visit the hermitage which is to the north east of the city (just outside) and requires a taxi to get there. It is so peaceful and beautiful.

We stayed in july 08. it was a bit tricky to find. We were cycling and went up and down the hill a few times before we found it. But on arrival we were greated by Berti who was very welcoming. Our room was clean with air con and we had a good view however there was some building work going on outside but it wasn't noisy early morning. Breakfast was outside and was ok. Overall good value for money in a fantastic location and town. We would stay there again without hesitation.

We really had a nice three-nights stay at Hotel Berti. Location is very convenient, just a few steps from the bus tarminal and 5 minutes walk to San Francesco Cathedral. The owner is very helpful and warm, and his family has a very nice restaurant near the hotel. If you would like to visit nereby small towns or spots, better to ask him about a taxi. Hotel Berti was nice. It was within the city walls and a nice walking distance from St. Francis' Basilica. The pietra parking lot is currently under construction next to Hotel Berti. So, parking is a couple of hundred yards away (although you can pull up to Berti to unload--even though it is within the restricted area). Our son loved watching the construction out of the window. The room was nice, clean, and big enough for us. The bathroom was adequate. The shower was a bit tight, but nothing scandalous. Breakfast was just fine--we were offered fresh lattes rather than just coffee. We would stay there again if we were going to Assisi... one of our favorite towns from a 3 week vacation in Italy.

The combination of price and location attracted me to this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised both by how very good the location was and the quality of the lodgings. The room was clean and comfortable. The bath was modern and clean. Only problem was getting hot water in the shower. It finally showed up for my wife's shower. The location has its drawback. Our window overlooked a parking lot that was being completely rebuilt. Fortunately, we were there on a weekend. I suspect it would not have posed a problem during the week for us since we were out and about during the time that work would have been done. When we return to Assisi we will definitely stay at the Hotel Berti again.

Hotel Berti was a small but very friendly and immaculately clean hotel, the proprietor and his staff were very welcoming and helpful. However its position, whilst delightful in some ways, was somewhat unfortunate as our room overlooked the bus terminus, with constant coaches arriving and departing from 8am until quite late. It also overlooked an enormous building site, which created considerable noise. However we did not expect a city centre hotel to be peaceful, so we accepted that it was something we had to live with. There were no restaurant facillities at the hotel but the proprietor did recommend one a few meters away, which was delightful. However despite the above critisimns of its location I would highly recommend it and would definately go back, given the opportunity.

The location is actually perfect, right off the mail bus stop. however, they are currently doing some city construction to the south of the hotel and this was somewhat loud. However, I think once this is finished, or if your window faced to the north, it would have been much quieter. The owner was very helpful and pulled off and printed the train schedule we needed. Breakfast was very standard, but good. Super lattes made right before your eyes. We would stay here again and recommend it to others.

Franco was great and the place was wonderfully located for access to old town. The patio was a great respite from the crowds. The only negative is the flip side of it's location. It's near the bus stop so it's noisy in the day time. They are also building a parking garage next to the bus stop so forget an after noon nap. At night the place is quiet and sleeping is great. It was a good value.

We were in Assisi for 3 days. I must say it is the owner that truly made our stay memorable. We found the room too small as a triple and he changed it to a double and single for us. I informed him that we had been getting up very early for breakfast but we had our own cereal. I noticed he accomodated us by starting the breakfast service early too. We decided to leave for Florence early and this was not a problem. This is a family run hotel and the owner truly takes pride on his establishment. As for the hotel, this was the only hotel that was not a 4 stars that we stayed on our trip and I thought the rooms were definitely adequate. The beds were firm and great, the shower was hot and powerful and the blessed towel warmers and remarkable linens made the stay very comfortable. PARKING is not a problem. YOu can park in the parking lot right outside the wall. ( the hotel is adjoined to the wall of the city) or if you drive back after 6pm, you can park free over night till 10am next morning.

It was a double room, very clean, the bathroom in particular, which is important, and plenty of towels were provided along with individual shampoo, soap, etc; the shower worked well and there was plenty of water. The staff was courteous and the hotel was very convenient to parking and fairly quiet, probably due to the fact that we were there off season. Unfortunately their restaurant was closed the day we were there;we found another place to eat but it was very disappointing (don't recall the name but it was a bar/eatery next to the hotel). I would go to this hotel again.

Excellent location just inside the arched entrance to Assisi. With the bus stop only 75 yards away you can easily catch the bus to the top of the hill and then walk down to enjoy the town. From this bus stop you can also catch busses to Siena and other towns. Hotel Berti is convenient to the Basilica. Lovely setting. Franco, the manager, is very hospitable and helpful in making travel arrangements. Nice, basic breakfast. Would recommend the Hotel Berti

Stayed for 2 nights. Hotel was fine and you could park in the area across the road overnight but have to move the car in the morning. The public car park just outside the town gate, next to the hotel costs 10 euros overnight. Assisi looks great but it was extremely quiet/lacking atmosphere in the town at night (mid week in November)with very few local people out and about, and the choice of restaurants wasn't great. Mont Sibillini national park area well worth a visit.

Hotel Berti was great. It fits into Assisi well as it is in a building from the 1400's. Our room was spacious, cheerful and the bathroom was great. Our host was kind and helpful. My husband speaks Italian so we didn't have any trouble. There were others who did not speak the language and the seemed to be getting along great also. The breakfast was ample! We had to leave very early our last day and our host had breakfast for us even though it was before the usual time. He made cab arrangements to get us to the train station as well. Assisi is a wonderful place.

Mr. Berti is very friendly and helpful, yet respectful of your privacy. The location is excellent since it's close to the Convent of S. Francis and right next to a major transport node. However, you'd have to bear with some noise for the same reason. His wife and son run an excellent restaurant just a few metres away, and you get a 10% discount if you go there. Breakfast was good even if the croissants could have been better! All in all, I'd still stay there again the next time I'm in Assisi.

Hotel Berti exemplifies what I look for in small European hotels: friendly service, cleanliness, comfortable bed, and location at a reasonable price. Our three night stay in Assisi was a highlight in over 3 weeks of exploring hilltowns of Italy. No difficulty in locating hotel as it is a part of St. Peters gate. We parked our car in the public San Pietro lot outside the gate, walked our luggage thru the gate to find ourselves in front of the hotel where we were greeted by Senore Berti. Our room on the third floor (w/lift) overlooked this same parking lot and hills beyond. This is a major bus dropoff for tourists, but as we were out most of the day, noise was no problem. In fact, the first day we caught the orange bus to take us up to the highest point, Piazza Matteotti, and followed R. Steves walking tour down to the Basilica of St. Francis. Another time we took a bus to visit the St. Maria Degli Angeli Basilica in the valley below. (Buy tickets at souvenir shop next to wall, a bargain at .90 euros.) Since our stay just preceded the feast of St. Francis, restaurants around Piazza del Commune were crowded. We delighted in dining twice at Ristorante da Cecco a short block from our hotel, where we particularly enjoyed the pici and veal with mushrooms (w/discount). Also enjoyed breakfast served on the small flowered terrace in front of hotel. Experiencing Assisi, particularly after the daytrippers leave, IS magical, and Senore Berti a jewel! Hotel is a terrific value.

This property was an easy location to get to. As soon as you enter the walled city gates you are at the hotel. The owner was a joy, he always had a smile for his guests and was excited about his hotel. Breakfast was pretty good with croissants, other breads and rolls, cheese, jams, yogert and your choice of cappuccino, latte's, tea's, hot chocolate, or just a good ole cuppa joe. You even get refills! something out of the ordindary for Europe. You also receive a 10 percent discount for a nice little restaurant across the street by staying here. Grazie, Franco! Hotel Bertie is a gem. Lovely rooms, wonderful hospitality, and a perfect location. Convenient parking outside St. Peter's Gate, noisy until the tour buses all leave at 6 pm, then the place is lovely and quiet. A short walk up the hill to Basilica San Francesco. Santa Chiara and San Damiano are a moderate walk up to the other end of town. Assisi being a hill town, you're either walking up or down hill all the time. There are many touristy shops selling shlocky curios, but there are also some wonderful gelaterias, artisans (including an excellent wood carver), wine shops, and art galleries as well. Good restaurants are everywhere, but do take Franco's recommendation about the place across the street, run by a very good friend of his. Daily Mass at St Peter's Church across the street.

Location good - 50m from the bus stop. As mentioned before the owner was very welcoming. However when we returned at 10pm to find the central heating was stuck on in our room which was by then like a sauna he suddenly lost all of his english, said open the window [overlooking bus stop/car park], put on air conditioning!!, about to go off[no it didn't], was very reluctant to leave his desk, never apologised and eventually and in a bad temper gave us another room where radiators off and the temperature all night was fine. Unless you are going for religious reasons or to study the frescos in depth Assisi can be done as a day visit or overnight stop at most.

Hotel Berti is in a great location immediately inside--and literally attached to--one of the city's gates. I wish I could remember which one, but anyone planning on staying there should ask, as this would have been a great help to us when we were trying to find it. There is a huge public parking lot immediately outside those gates, which is also the drop off location for all the tour buses. Our very nice but small room overlooked this parking lot and the hills beyond. As most of the traffic has left by nightfall, we didn't find it noisy. Mr. Berti, who speaks almost no English, was charming and helpful. It was too cool for us to have a glass of wine or breakfast on the hotel's patio, but that would be a great addition to any stay. His wife's restaurant, which received rave reviews from other reviewers, was certainly good value for money, but unremarkable. It's location was very convenient to the hotel.

The owner was very hospitable and caring. The down side to the hotel is both a positive and negative: the location is near the Basilica St. Francis and nearby public parking, but to get to the main town square it is a long hike uphill. If you want a central location go elsewhere. It was great, though, if you have a car as the public lot is one block away.

Hotel Berti is a small, quaint hotel located just inside Porto San Pietro. We had a single room for 2 (two single female travelers), plenty of room and very clean. We felt it was a bargain for the price. The accommodations may not be received as favorably by a novice traveler. The hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from the Cathedral and closer to the bus and taxi stands. Some travel guides say one day is too long to stay in Assisi but we were sorry our stay wasn't longer as we were there just overnight but able to see the Cathedral without hurrying.

It was a very nice hotel and very reasonably priced, considering it is Assisi.

A nice very small hotel just inside the city gate in Assisi. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. They speak very little English but that didn't bother us. It was just a short walk UP the hill to the cathedral, but then again everything is up the hill in Assisi. Breakfast was nice on the outside terrace. The restaurant that is affiliated with the Hotel is just a few yards away and is very good and you get a 10% discount at the restaurant if you are a hotel guest.

The location is very convenient to visit the Church of San Francesco.I managed to visit the church 4 times over 2 days at dawn and at dusk when the crowds thins.Being close to the bus stop and huge carpark is also a major plus. The hotel itself is rather pretty and serves a decent continental breakfast.Rooms are adequate for a three star hotel.Ask for a room with a view.I enjoyed looking out of the window onto the shopping street filled with locals and tourists.

An excellent hotel for visiting a special place. The description on the Venere web site is accurate about Assisi, the Berti hotel and the restuarant. Even for a non-Catholic, the Basilica of San Francesco and the town of Assisi have a warmth that is not often found.

Given that Assisi is rather quiet at night and there are few places to eat, it was unfortunate that the linked restaurant was closed on the Wednesday evening of our stay.

Hotel Berti was a simply wonderful, charming place to stay in Assisi. Mr. Berti welcomes you, and although he speaks Italian and we don't, it was easy to feel his warmth and willingness to please. I would return in a heartbeat, and highly recommend Hotel Berti. It is a small (10 rooms, I think) but comfortable hotel. Mr. Berti even allowed us to leave our luggage for the day after checking out so we could do more sightseeing. This hotel gets an A+!!

This was our first visit to Assisi, and we were expecting a touristy and possibly atmosphere deprived commercial opportunity - especially after visiting Florence. We travelled around Italy, from the north down to the south on our motorbikes and on arriving anywhere, usually felt exhausted and harrassed after surviving Italian traffic. We were thrilled on arrival at Hotel Berti. Francesco (the owner who also owns a restuarant nearby which serves excellent food), came out to meet and welcome us, helped us park our motorbikes, and showed us to our rooms. We were soon happily sitting on his patio with a cold beer, content not to move for the rest of the evening. It is a homely, charming and peaceful environment. The owner comes across as friendly and helpful in a reserved kind of way (as opposed to overwhelming). Highly recommended. We would go again.

We've been to Berti 2 years ago and will go again for sure. Miraculous place (Assisi, miraculous, got it?) Try dinner at Metastasio, on a terrasse with a 20 mile view.

My sister and I couldn't believe how great this hotel was for the price. The staff went above and beyond the call of duty. The room was great and they were so accomodating, we wish we could have stayed longer.
