This was our first visit to Assisi and the Hotel Alexander was just perfect apart from not having a lift. It was in a central location and had the most stunning views. Highly recommend this property.

Amazing hotel! Only 2 stars, but it would deserve 4! Its location, just off the main square in Assisi, is absolutely perfect! The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable, with a very modern bathroom and wood beams on the ceiling. The breakfast was the best part, on a wonderful terrace overlooking the city. Breathtaking! The staff was absolutely brilliant, kind and helpful. Highly recommended!

Good location and friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast could be improved with some decent bread or rolls and some hard cheeses. Lovely bathroom.

The hotel was pretty hard to find in a car. We got stuck driving in circles at one point. We eventually had to just park and walk to find it. Also, the room appeared very clean, but there was a fairly strong musty smell in the room.

We loved this hotel in Assisi. It was in a quiet courtyard with the small church which was the house St. Francis grew up in. The hotel is lovely. Our room and bath were large and comfortable. There was no elevator but the owner/manager carried our bags up to the top floor and back down when we departed. He spoke English well and was very helpful.

We came to Assisi for one night and decided to stay 3 nights, partly because we felt so comfortable at this excellent value hotel. Spacious, tastefully decorated, clean rooms with wooden floors and wooden beams on the ceiling. Modern bathroom, shower with glass door. Nice views of church dome next door and also from the rooftop breakfast patio. There are extra single beds which can be pulled out from the main double bed and they are already prepared with bedding, so it was perfect for our 4-year old. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ask for the giotto room which is quite large and even has a tredmill! It is on the top (3rd) floor and there is no elevator, but it is worth the climb! There is no attendant at the reception after 7pm, but the lobby lights are left on and there is no problem getting into and out of the building. It is a very safe and cozy atmosphere with a pizzeria right next door and the piazza just a few meters away where there are many restaurants, coffee shops, and the main shopping street. It is the perfect location central in Assisi. The only thing I was disappointed by a little was the breakfast. It was good by Italian standards but mainly sweet options (sweet croissants, jams, nutella, honey, tartes, pastries, etc.) and no cheese, cold cuts or fruit. But perhaps this is because it is a small hotel and it would be difficult to organize a more elaborate breakfast for small numbers. In any event, the room and staff more than made up for it. I would ONLY consider staying at the Alexander Hotel if I came back and highly recommend this gem for a perfect stay in Assisi.

We were pleased (and a bit surprised) by the quality of this small hotel at the price. The rooms were large, clean, and attractive. The shower was excellent. But most important was the friendly, helpful staff. Thank you

Excellent hotel, absolutely to recommand. Very central, large beautiful rooms (ancient furnitures, view on the valley and the medieval town), very welcoming and helpful personal. Beakfast is nextdoor at hotel dei Priori, a bigger hotel (Alexander is tiny, which is part of its charm!) I asked for a double room and we actually got a suite of two large rooms, which is exceptionnal for the price (80E in october), and very convenient for us I as was travelling with my mum! (couples, consider asking a single room)

Hotel "Alexander" is located by Piazza del Comune and it is convenient for eating and shopping. For breakfast we went to another hotel's dining room (for 1 minute by walking)but it is also good.

Hotel Alexander is actually a side bussiness of the larger and better quality Hotel Dei Priori. On the door there is a note guiding you to there to get the keys. One of the downsides of this is that there is no staff at the hotel to look over the property during the night, and staying there alone for the night can be quite loomy. My wife had trouble getting sleep because of this, because she felt unsafe. Also if some of the other customers decide to party and make noise, there is no one keeping eye over it. The pictures and the description on the page give an appearance of the hotel being located on "small friendly square", giving an idea about peaceful surroundings. Actually, there is a VERY noisy bar just below the windows on the square, and the people kept on partying, playing piano, moving chairs and tables untill about 3 in the night. Furthermore, there is no air conditioning in the rooms, but the only way to keep some of the noise out is to keep the windows closed. Even with this, we could only get sleep with earplugs, so bring them with you if you really decide to stay here. Then the problem was the heat and the loss of oxygen in the room. I had to wake up at night to get some air in and close the windows again in order to be able to sleep. As a summarry, it was the worst hotel stay during our two week Italy trip. The rooms weren't very clean either. The shower kept overflowing because there were practically no borders around it and some of the water ran to the carpeted wood flor. We weren't the only ones with this problem, since the carpet showed sings on having become wet and drying multiple times. It was quite musty, and I'm sure there is some sort of fungus problem. The best thing about the hotel was a very good quality breakfast, which was served at Dei Priori. The staff there was also very helpful and kept out bags at the storage for the next day, when we were exploring around. They also gave us a free map of the town and instructed us where to ge

We loved our stay in Assisi! The Hotel Alexander helped us enjoy the town. It is located just off the Piazza Commune, next to the Chiesa Nuova. The hotel is run by the Hotel Dei Priori around the corner which is where we breakfasted every morning after prayer and Mass with the Poor Clares at Santa Chiara. The servers were very nice and we had great cappucino every morning. Our room was clean, comfortable, and the staff was helpful. For those wanting a five star hotel, this is not it...but we loved it! Thanks to venere.com for helping to arrange it. I knew we wanted to be in the middle of town and the maps helped. I would stay there again. The Otello right below the hotel was a great place to eat!

There is no indication on the website that the Hotel Alexander is in fact annexed to the 3* Hotel Dei Priori. It was in the comfortable surroundings of the latter that we had breakfast every day. There is a wonderful roof garden in the Alexander and I enjoyed an al fresco meal there, one evening. The views were great - which is a lot more than can be said for our rooms which were very dark. Mine gave onto another building, about 4 feet away. My sister's had very little natural light. These are small criticisms as we were out most of the time. One bigger criticism, however, (of which the hotel is aware) has to do with the arrival of a large group of young people from America who were allowed to take over the Alexander for a night while their teachers were in the Dei Priori, across the road, leaving me and my sister to put up with their alcohol-fuelled behaviour till after 2am. We put in our complaint next day and the management responded very supportively. If you're after reasonably priced and simple accommodation, I would recommend the Alexander.
