Staff was wonderfully helpful--even helped me get out of the parking garage. It was a storybook hotel, very lovely. The only drawbacks was the room was very cold the first night. Parking is a hassle since it is not really close and you have to lug your baggage quite a ways.

Our stay was extremely pleasant. The proprietors and staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating. The hotel breakfast is an excellent value. The room was larger than expected for the price and very nicely decorated. One of the best hotels we've booked in Europe. And the location is good.

The service and the rooms were excellent. If you come with a large car, it is difficult to get out of the city, because there is a bottleneck road. (I got a scratch) You can rent a save parking-place in a big Garage which ist 5 minutes to go away.

Terrific place. Our second visit and just s good as the first. Much finer and more characterful than its two star rating might suggest. The Belvedere suite (which we didn't have this time) is superb.

Hotel is beautifully decorated in the public areas. Our bed was reasonably comfortable and had good linens. Would have preferred there had been a shower wall or at least a curtain in bathroom. Room had a safe which we appreciated. Breakfast was extra and we thought we could have had a more varied offering in a cafe but chose the convenience of eating at the hotel. Two laptops provided in the common room but both had keyboards common in France which were different from what we are used to and hard to use. Hotel very well located. Dining area could use a decorator's touch. Staff not overly friendly upon arrival and completely ignored us after checkout as we tried to say goodbye. One staff actually watched my husband and I lug our suitcases down the stairs (no elevator) and THEN asked if we needed help. A strong wind created a loud banging on the roof all night so we got very little sleep - which is apparently a common occurrance.

We loved the interior decor of this hotel particularly the sitting room and courtyard areas. Staff were very obliging when we need to send a fax and generally helpful and welcoming. Very centrally located - a bit tricky negotiating some of the narrow streets in our car but it all added to the experience of being in this part of the city.

Hotel very well located, installed in part of an ancient construction that recalls the best Roman times. All areas of the hotel are perfect for you to feel at Arles Roman. Markets, shops, restaurants and most attractions are easily reached on foot. We stayed in a large room, bright and nicely decorated. The bathroom has two locations, with an exclusive for the bath. The staff is excellent, very kind and willing to make your stay the best. They gave us all the information about the city, sightseeing, shopping and restaurants. The breakfast, although not much variety, has optimum quality and is served in time to which enables the best use of the day. When we return to Arles will stay at this hotel for sure. Arles and the Hôtel de l'Amphitheatre are simply wonderful.

Location is excellent, a few steps from the Amphitheatre, many restaurants, and a free shuttle to the train station. Very medieval feel to the public rooms. Despite the long climb up a narrow staircase, I would definitely stay there again because it was a good buy.

Staff was very friendly and welcoming and even offered to help us schlep the luggage up four flights of stairs. Rooms were reminiscent of old castles with high ceilings and sitting rooms. Very cool. Location is awesome for walking around but you have to be careful not to get parking tickets (I did) and make sure you have a good gps to find your way in and out. It's a tad tricky. All in all this hotel would be a do-again.

The Hotel is very well situated to explore Arles and the area around it. Although the walled city is a little challenging to drive in, I was able to find the Hotel fairly easily and there is a parking area very close by. The Hotel staff is very helpful, speaks perfect English and provide a map of the city, advice on restaurants and shopping, and even arranged an appointment with a Medical Doctor, which was (unfortunately) required. The free access to the Internet is a huge benefit. The breakfast is generous and very tasty. I spent 3 nights there and do not hesitate to highly recommend this establishment.

A beautiful old building and beautifully done inside, especially the public areas. Clean and comfortable. A block from the impressive Roman theater and amphitheatre; every other place of interest is within walking distance. Even the train station is close enough to walk. Beautiful town.

Hotel lobby and public area on the 1st floor are really nice. All the rest, including rooms, is very outdated and worn out and requires renovation, though if you are able to raise your bags in your room sleeping at this hotel a night or two is not a problem. Delivering your bags to a second or third floor is not easy since there is not elevator, staircase is steep and nobody expressed intention to help.

The location is fabulous. The rooms are nice and the whole place was very quiet when we were there in early January. The only glitch, and it could have been a big one, was upon check in when the receptionist insisted he had only one room booked for us. In the end he found our other reservation--right where he claimed it wasn't. He never apologized and acted put out--as though I had hidden the reservation in his stack of papers. None of the desk people showed any particular interest in the clientele, but the hotel itself is very nice.

The Hotel itself is beautiful. The interior and decorating is awesome. Biggest problem with this property is the lack of parking and its' location in the old city, meaning that the streets are ridiculously small. Be sure not to have a car any bigger than Small/Compact. You have to be lucky to find parking. Shame because as I state the Hotel itself is magnifient.

Although our welcome was warm, some of the interaction with the desk staff was a little cool, especially when told about ordering breakfast in advance and not being told on arrival. However our 13-night stay was one of the most relaxed and trouble free in our experience. The hotel is in a quiet lane just a few metres from the arena and amphitheatre, and is delightfully renovated with a wonderful splash of red here and there. Our double room was airy and spacious, clean and although facing the lane, so quiet at night. Thoroughly recommended.

I picked this hotel for its central location and good reviews by other guests on venere.com. We did not eat breakfast here but everything else about our stay was good. Very clean rooms, OK service, great location, reasonable price. The only downside is there was only street parking so we had to drive around a bit to find a spot. Had to start feeding the meter by 9am.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at this hotel at the end of July 09. It is in a quiet road but only a couple of minutes away from the Roman theatre and amphitheatre which were wonderful. Our ground floor twin room was L-shaped, it had a wardrobe (but sadly no drawers)and efficient air conditioning. There was a large en suite wet room for the shower/wc. It was obviously designed with disabled customers in mind for whom it would be ideal. We were delighted with the position of the hotel, the standard of the room and hotel facilities and simple but pleasing continental breakfast which cost 7,50 euros per day. The hotel is definitely worth more that two stars and we would certainly go back.

Before our travel I hoped a lot of this hotel... and now, I think it was even better. All in this night was perfect: the room (very beautiful), the employees (very nice and helpful with us), the breakfast (very good), the location (near the "arènes d'Arles", the amphithéatre, etc.)... It's the better "** hotel" I've ever seen. It exceeded our standard.

Very classy hotel, excellent public areas, the open fire was lovely, I appreciated the free internet and laundry service. The location and breakfast were both very satisfactory. The room was bright and cheerful if a little small but it was a single and reasonable in price. The front desk was helpful but perhaps a touch offhand, they didn't tend to explain things although that might have been because I was relying on their grasp of English rather than any ability with French on my part. Greatest drawback was the lack of lift.

Overall, this hotel is a 8. It is very nice. Good common areas. And, if you are lucky, they have a fireplace to sit and read by. Breakfast and parking are extra. When you book at this hotel, it is nice to have the newly redone rooms. We got a basic room, but got to see inside the new rooms, and it was a big difference. We didn't even have nice TOWELS -- that is something that the hotel should fix. Even if they can't afford to modernize the carpets, paints, furniture, etc., at least they could upgrade the sheets, towels, blankets, and other soft goods.

First the bad,the hotel advertises guarded parking. I did not find it nor did the locals I met up with know of it. Parking was a hassle with paying for metered parking or parking farther out. I do not recommend it for persons who are not capable of stair climbing as there are no elevators. Now the good, I would recommend this hotel as it has a great central location to all the sites of Arles. The price was very good and I would definitely stay there again.

I would have spent a little more on the room as the one we had didn't appear as nice as the ones on the website and the access stairs to our room were very narrow and winding. It was a very good deal to have free internet access in a very nice room. Our bathroom, for some reason, emitted a foul odour at times - not sure what caused this. We found the shower very compact and if you bumped the handle in the shower (which happened easily), then the water temperature would change. It was a great location for us and I would definitely stay there again, but in a different room.

The map should be a little clearer. The hotel is beautifully designed. We had the suite, which was large enough, with a great, sunny deck. Quiet. Great, huge bathroom, which is rare. The only bad thing about the room was the carpet was very dirty in the bedroom portion of the suite. The breakfast was just bread, bread, bread, unless you wanted to pay double. They charged me 7.50 euro for the breakfast (bread!)when the price quoted in advance was 6 euro. Didn't catch that in time. But it was in a good location; about a 15 minute walk from the train station and central to the city. NO English TV! Free english books in the lobby. Not a "friendly" staff, but not rude either. Just left us alone, and were business like, which was fine. Would recommend.

Very good hotel in very nice little city. Clean and charming room, good service from staff. All in all a great experience, and excellent value. The only bad thing is the absence of private parking, so you have to pop by the car twice or 3 times a day to renew the parking ticket, but it's cheap and to be expected as the area is from a time when no car existed. Also vry good reccomendations from staff regarding restaurants in the vicinity.

L'emplacement est idéal.À deux pas des arènes de Arles et proche des autres attractions touristiques. L'extérieur ne prête pas de mine et n'annonce pas l'aménagement intérieur très recherché et soigné des aires publics de cet hôtel. Ideal location right in the centre. Staff really nice and helpful. The public area of the hotel is tasteful and particularly lovely at night. The double bedroom could have had a bit more space, but overall a good base for exploring lovely Arles with its narrow streets, restaurants and Saturday market. There is very little traffic in the centre which was nice. The only thing is, parking is by meter between 9am-7pm apart from lunchtime. For nightime we found a spot at the bottom end of the arena, unmetered.

We arrived earlier than expected and our room had not been vaccuumed yet, but someone was there within minutes to get the job done - that was the only reason I gave it 9 out of 10 on cleanliness. I could only give it a 10 for size of rooms and price-quality ratio, because that is as high as the scale goes. This is quite possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed at - absolutely incredible place, wonderful, friendly, helpful staff and the whole hotel, not to mention the rooms, are stunning. This is a fantastic hotel and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to escape in luxury.

Hotel Amphitheatre is in a beautiful old house in the very centre of the historic centre. The room we occupied was huge, with very tasteful decor. The hotel is decorated tastefully throughout. It does not have an elevator, so carrying luggage up stairs is difficult. The breakfast is by waiting service and it is a delight to sit in the lounges and dining rooms. All in all an excellent choice.

My mother and I like the hotel very much. Our room was a very lovely one. Staff were kind and helpful. Maybe because our room was on the ground floor, we could hear quite clearly all the noises on the street...And the door of the wardrobe in our room will make a loud sound when we open it...But these are only trivial things, and we will definitely choose this hotel if we have chance to visit Arles again!

The hotel itself, was most charming...The breakfast, best I had in any hotel, yougert was awsome..The only dissapointment was the extremely tiny room...The shower almost dangerous. One had to be very carefull when turning around so the temperature control wasn't hit and a spray of very hot water came shooting out. I had a single room and was next to a stairway that was pretty noisy... The owner was extremelly helpfull and was kind enough to speak English and suggested I purchase my train ticket night before I left...Was most gratefull for that suggestion..also arranged for a taxi to take me to the station...Hotel was in a good spot to wander the area...

We were travelling in Europe for 10 weeks and this was one of our favourite hotels. It was centrally located in the old section of the town near the Arena. A very pleasant surprise in quality and stylishness. The location was execellent but parking and driving near the hotel could be difficult especially if you are driving a larger car (we had a small Volvo station wagon). l'Amphithéatre will be our first choice when we return to Arles. I would only recommend it to a mature couple if they are capable and have no reservations about carrying their luggage up 1-3 flights of stairs. We are in our late 50's but I really didn't mind carrying most of the luggage for a family of 4 up 3 flights (no elevator).

The hotel is located in central Arles and has been renovated beautifully - it could well be on the pages of Vogue or one of those house and home magazines, it is just gorgeous and has a lot of character. I could find nothing to complain about and can truly say it was one of the nicest boutique hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying at.

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in in France, both as to the service and the property. It is beautiful, perfectly located, excellently maintained, reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Very good hotel of 2 stars but it is better than a lot of 3 stars!

I've just been sincere! It is a wonderful place, managed by wonderful and competent persons. I and my wife are still wondering how such a quality was possible, and at that rates! It's also unbelievable. Are they at the very beginning of a new opening? Anyway, it's great. If only some more hotel could be at that stardard...

The hotel has no parking facilities, contrary to the website mentioning. Parking in the surroundings is a nightmare and should be avoided. Park your car outside the city center or book another hotel.

We thought this an excellent hotel, very close to the ampitheatre and nearby restaurants. The room was reasonably spacious and was air-conditioned and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Note that driving your car to the hotel is not for the faint-hearted - very narrow one way streets - we were lucky to find a parking space near to the hotel.

This was one of the best deals I have found. Small and basic rooms, but for the money hard to beat, especially for a short stay. Excellent location in heart of town center; charm of a very old, well-restored building; best breakfast I had in all of France and reasonable as well. Hard to find; would not have found it but for the luck of running into some English-speaking students who knew the area well.

Hotel assolutamente buono e piacevole a basso costo.

Spent much time driving the narrow one way streets of Arles before finally locating this excellent hotel. The rooms are beautifully furnished along with the general hotel decor. We were unaware of the hotel parking arrangements, otherwise one of the best French hotels we stayed in. The ambience and decor was refreshingly different from the usual modern styles.

I highly recomend this hotel to Westerners. I, Asian, wasn't warmly welcomed and sometimes I was ignored by the hotel staffs. The rooms are well decorated and very clean. Very good value for the money. But I think what is most important for hotels is people inside them. So, I'm sorry but I'll not stay here again. (And they, probably, will be glad about it.)

Gutes Stadtviertel. In diesem Hotel fühlt man sich sehr gut aufgehoben. Ich bin begeistert.

This was perhaps the best value for money accomodation on my two month trip to Europe. The ambience and quality of accomodation is superb and the friendliness of the staff made the stay a pleasure.

This hotel was an absolutely fantastic value for the price. It really ought to cost more! Although I am usually oblivious to things like decor and interior design, the hotel is truly decorated by people who have excellent taste; not with your usually girly frills and flourishes. The front staff was execellent and very inefficient. We did not stay for breakfast so I cannot comment on food. I would tell people to go out of their way to visit Arles just to stay here. The only small glitch was that this website did allow to specify there were 2 people, but didn't allow us to say whether we were a double or a twin. We had to insert that in the comments, and the hotel staff didn't pick that up until the last minute.

This hotel is a jewel. The quiet location is terrific yet you are close to everything. The hospitality ( incl.helpfulness and organization) of the staff esp. front desk is wonderful. The hotel has a lovely ambience, comfort and I would definitely stay there again.

This hotel was toward the end of our trip and our room was on the top floor with no lift, but that is not the fault of the hotel. Our room was also a little musty...possibly because it was a smoking room. The owner went out of his way to be helpful, even loaning us a map so we could get to the Tour de France.

Nice place, but don't go with a car. The streets in the center of Arles are extremely narrow, making it difficult to navigate. A nice boutique hotel though, right near the Roman sites...
