Stayed for 2 nights pre-booked through Venere. A family run hotel for some 40 years offering helpful advice and attentive service. Excellent breakfast and rustic local menus in the evening. An extensive wine list - the patron showed great enthusiasm in recommending his preferred choices. Recently refurbished to an individual and high standard. Luxury lift and bathroom. Only disappointment was that wi-fi was not yet installed and no available internet for customers. The hotel is located 1.3 Km up a winding road above the village of Agregno in a small local community, with views down the valley to Lake Como.

Be prepared for a stay where nobody speaks any English, which makes getting the info on local things to do impossible. The breakfast is adequate - except for the cold boiled eggs, which we found weird. On the upside, the room and bathroom are both are VERY big and the internet is super-fast. Plus the restaurant was very good value for money [and tasty]

What a wonderful find. This hotel and it's staff and owners were a very pleasant surprise in terms of friendliness. Food and wine were outstanding as well. We'll be back again!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay in this small and beautiful hotel. Also the restaurant is very recommendable. The view from vista point (45,96833822 8,99179508) over the lake of Lugano is fantastic.

Staff were friendly and helpful despite the fact that we couldn't speak any Italian. Hotel premises was generally quiet & relaxing, The dining & garden setting was most enjoyable.Excellent quality food. We stayed 6 nights and were sad to leave. It's preferable to have your own car.

A wonderful and romantic little hotel close to Lake Como. Brilliant food/kitchen!!!- I can very much recommend, but a bit noisy rooms (it's located next to a curve in the road where Italian drivers tend to honk instead of slowing down.. :)) Very attentive staff, gave us help with planning our daily trips.

The staff was very kindly - only one could. speak english, could be at trouble. No menu in english. The local people used the hotel, good to see. Very good room - good food. A nice church close to the hotel. Difficult to park the car near the sea.

A truly great hotel! It was my best experience during my whole trip around Lake Como and Lombardia! The hotel is decorated with taste, combining a regional feeling and personal creativity ; the setting is great, in a quiet village above Argegno (although a car seems necessary not to be "stuck" up there); you can get a view of lake como and it is also on the way to the most beautiful viewpoint in the area, overlooking the Lugano Lake. The room was confortable, clean, and tasteful ; internet is free, which seldom happens in the hotels of the region. The hotel has a restaurant, which is also popular among the locals, so you always eat in a lively warm ambiance. The food is marvellous, and you can really get a taste of super-local dishes : pizzocheri, bresaola, polenta but also game (wild boar, stag...). Finally, the people of the hotel are wonderful hosts : nice and really eager to help, in you own language. This great service was really the cherry on the cake.

A quiet location about 10 minutes drive up from Argegno. Lovely garden and grounds are a nice feature. The next door restaurant at La Locanda is ot to be missed.

My husband and i stayed here from 15 june 2008 for 8 nights. we actually arrived at Bergamo airport late at night so opted for a taxi from airport to hotel - was pricey at 160 euro but worth the hassle free arrival. we loved it here! we barely spoke any Italian (apologies to the staff for that!) but we were made very welcome and somehow coped! the food in the hotel and neighbouring hotel was fabulous. if we were to return to this region we would stay in this hotel again and have made a promise to ourselves to learn some Italian! we didn't hire a car so either walked down and up the hill from hotel to lake side (on the plus point i actually lost weight on this holiday which i am putting down to the hill!). as long as you are reasonably fit then this isn't a problem. there is a local bus that runs twice a day from outside the hotel - costs 1 euro each and you get the ticket from hotel staff or coffee shop near the square. the cable car ride was worth doing for the views you get. we visited Como for the day and also went to Bellagio twice which were both very nice. on the way home we took the morning fast ferry to Como, walked to the train station (10 mins), left our luggage for an hour or so then got the train to Bergamo - not Milan - this was quicker and also hassle free - did 1 change of station but this was ok. right outside the Bergamo train station you catch the bus to the airport. overall we loved this holiday and hope to return. we always book flights separate and use venere to book our hotels and we have yet to be disappointed!

We had a nice double room with a large bathroom. Hotel is well situated. The owner is friendly and speaks several foreign languages. The staff made a mistake on the restaurant bill. We had a good stay but price is too high. This is probably due to the proximity of the lake.

Room was absolutely brilliant, no question about it. Only problem is if you don't have a car. It's quite far from the village Argegno, you can't climb from there at night after few drinks, or you can but it takes a lot of time. The restaurant la Griglia seemed to be very popular and dinner was indeed very good. I can also highly recommend that.

It was a great stay. Perfect place if you have a car, since Como is 20min far away. Fresh air, wonderful view on the mountains (it's not on the lake side), very good restaurant...We recommend the place !

Beautiful secluded and quiet location up in the hills, but not too far away from the main attractions of Lake Como. Lovely rooms and friendly staff, but the highlight was the restaurant, which served the best food of our entire holiday. Would definitely visit again and recommend to everyone. Just be careful driving up the narrow, winding road from the Lake.

There is a big difference between the bedroom's price and the half board price. The restaurant is closed on wednesday. We meet middle age people at the hotel, young and less young at the restaurant which is quite a good one.

Very nice family hotel a bit uphill. Personnel didn't speak too much English but we felt very welcome. We booked two rooms (4 persons) and the other room had a wonderful balcony with some lakeview. Nice restaurant with many courses of authentic italian food, especially home-made pastas were delicious. Nothing much else to do in the neigbourhood except driving down to the city center at the lake but very nice countryside location. Excellent choice!

We had a wonderfull time in this hotel. The owners were great. The restaurant has an excelente food, the room was big, clean, well decorated, with a great view and new. The hotel has more then 30 years and is so well conserved that seams a new hotel. The restaurant has wonderfull dishes. We definitly recomend and come back.

A great find - unfortunately it rained almost constantly while we stayed there and that's always going to influence impressions. The restaurant was closed the evening we arrived (we didn't realise this was the case when booking) but there is good alternative within 25 meters. La Griglia restuarant is very good.

Our room overlooked the lake, spotlessly clean and a bathroom comparable with a 5* hotel. The meal in the restaurant was probably one of the best meals we have had, genuine Italian home-cooking at extremely reasonable prices, particularly considering the location.

The accomodation was fantastic, beautiful rooms, very clean, staff very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant had fab food for dinner. The hotel was located up the hill from the ferry terminal (20 min walk) but the staff came to pick us up with our bags when we arrived and there is also a bus during the day. The area is ideal for long walks and one gets a perfect view over Lake Como when hiking up the 'Pater' path to the church. Frequent ferries make visiting of other towns on the lake easy. The only 'negative' thing would be that breakfast was fairly plain/simple (though plenty) and for people that don't like to walk up the hill at night the location may be not so ideal since arrangements with staff or bus would need to be made.

I was expecting a room overlooking Lake Como but the hotel faced east/west. At least we had a balcony room overlooking a mountain, which was peaceful. Food and restaurant were excellent although not much of a public room. Very good value.

VERY SATISFIED ALTOGETHER. WOULD ONLY SUGGEST TO ALTER THE TIMING FOR BREAKFAST SO THAT IT STARTS A BIT EARLIER ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE HAS TO MAKE AN EARLY START TO GET A PLANE FOR EXAMPLE.

Initial impression was a bit of a shock as the hotel was full of families celebrating the May Day holiday. Once they had finished lunch, however, we had the place to ourselves and were made most welcome by the family. We appreciated the quiet surroundings and the food was excellent.
