Hotel Residence Le Corniole - Arezzo

Great location for exploration of Arezzo and surroundings. The hotel is very good but bring ear plugs. Railway tracks run just outside

This is a tough one because the service is outstanding and the quality of the accommodation (in terms of size, etc) is also really great. But the location kills it. Our room was clean and one of the largest we had on our most recent trip through Italy. The employees were super-welcoming and helpful with any request we had. The main sights of the city are just a short, brisk walk away. And parking is on-site. So many good things going for it. But the location is right next to the train station, so you get very little of the "scenic charm" of Arezzo. You also get the screeching of trains passing in the night. I had read reviews about this before booking my trip, and I understood the location. But all those reviews downplayed the noise saying that it wasn't that loud or that the trains didn't pass by that often. Perhaps they stayed in apartments on the other side of the building; but during our stay, the trains were NOT infrequent, and the noise was significant. My travelling companion had an iPod and managed to drown out the noise and get some sleep by listening to it. I, on the other hand, was not so lucky and couldn't get to sleep for several hours. A problem that could have been avoided simply by wearing earplugs? Probably. So it's my fault for not buying them in advance. Still, I can't rank quietness or hotel surroundings very high. We both agreed we would advise people just to pass through Arezzo for the day, see the highlights, and move on. If you do go to Arezzo, be sure to eat at Trattoria Saraceno, Via Giuseppe Mazzini, 6. It's fantastic food (the homemade sausages 'salsiccia casareccia' are out-of-this world full of flavor) and the service is incredibly friendly and helpful.

I've rate it 9/10. The only problem is the hotel is near to the railroad: who has light sleep could have some problems...

We stayed a week in Arezzo, using it as a base to explore. Since we had our cat with us we decided to stay in an apartment. the staff at Le Corniole were welcoming and accommodating. We would recommend it to friends.
