Plaza Boutique Hotel - Antwerp

Wonderful hotel, and room and staff : welcoming and obliging, always eager to help finding a restaurant or else ; very good breakfast with fresh products ;

Room was definitely bigger and better than I feared- hotel lift and corridor leading to the room were very small/ dark but room itself had obviously been refurbished recently, and was light and bright. Sadly there was a distinct smell of cigarette smoke when we entered the room which was a bit off putting- but at least the windows opened properly so we were able to let the fresh air in so it was OK by the evening. A food tray was in the corridor when we arrived and was still there some 5 hours later, which was also a bit off-putting. The public areas have been subject to some partial refurbishment- the breakfast room was nicely done in modern style, whilst the lounge was still the old style, dark furniture. We paid extra for breakfast, but not sure it was worth it ( service a bit slow ). The hotel location is a little bit out of the centre, but we liked the fact that we looked out on trees and the tram is very easy and quick. Staff on reception desk friendly and helpful. All-in-all a pleasant first visit to Antwerp.

The room was excellent, with the exception that -- even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room -- smelled strongly of smoke.
